Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

Nope, definitely a tongue. As pointed out up there the tongue is out, as that is how most lions are depicted on heraldic crests.

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to make it look somewhat like ANY other animal on the planet...

If he had never seen a lion he would have modeled it like a wolf or a dog which he was familiar with.

However what he produced is a sign of complete incompetence and just that

Likely but when i look at it i think he made the lion based on the lions that you can see on crests and coats of arms from the time, if you look at them you can see that almost all lions on crests have their toungues out, that might explain the massive toungue. Instead of looking at another animal he may have based this lion on illustrations and paintings. That's just a guess.

Yes I believe that is exactly right in this case -- it was designed to look like the lions that Sweden has on their coat of arms. The lion was intended to be looked at from the side and at that angle it actually looks pretty good as seen in this photo.

He was given a pile of bones and a skin. He'd never seen a lion before, except in heraldry. Honestly, given how completely anatomically correct heraldic lions are, I have to agree with you - how could he have possibly not gotten it right?
