I don't think that's what really happened, I talked to somebody (Real Canadian, true story!) who took a picture of the incident.

Simply Horrifying! One of the poor Canadians has already turned to dust!

[–]sgt_ep1k 21 points22 points ago

That has to be the most beautiful pictures in the world. How much?

[–]Default_Human 8 points9 points ago

Nope, the bear's just angry that the purple guy took a smelly shit on his lawn.

[–]spacemanjesus 247 points248 points ago

I'm actually from the area and a car hit a black bear, sending it flying into oncoming traffic. It went through the windshield of the other car and decapitated the two people inside. Fucked up to say the least.

[–]galenspring 142 points143 points ago

And here it is on reddit, on r/funny.

[–]BCP27 72 points73 points ago

You know /r/wtf would just complain unless it showed the bodies.

[–]superbad 13 points14 points ago

Which probably means it belongs on /r/mildlyinteresting

[–]masterbard1 19 points20 points ago

I don't know man if I have to chose a way to go i'd probably chose this. I find that very funny.

[–]NoNeedForAName 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, "Decapitated by Bear" is a much better story than the heart attack that will probably kill me. My survivors are going to get so much karma.

[–]Anus_Blender 20 points21 points ago

Did the windshield or the bear decapitate them? I'd have to guess windshield. But your comment really makes the bear look like the culprit.

I can't imagine any part of a bear's body is sharp and long enough to actually decapitate a human in a single pass. The teeth are definitely not long enough, and the claws are in the neighborhood of 3-4 inches.

Let's say your bear had unusually large claws. At least as long as an average human neck is wide. Their claws are made for slashing and digging, so it's hard to imagine one would be able to cut clean through a neck in a single pass. But let's say this one had unusually long and sharp claws.

So he's coming through the windshield, unnaturally long and sharp claws positioned in such a way that they take the head clean off a passenger in one swipe. How does it decapitate both people simultaneously? It would have to have its arms splayed out as it entered the car, both positioned at a very precise height and angle.

The claws would also have to be spread out so that only one contacts the neck edge-on. Obviously we can't have all the claws hitting the neck at the same time. That would undoubtedly cause serious harm, but I can't imagine it would provide enough localized force to cut clean through a neck. Ideally the full force of impact would be transferred through one claw's edge so as to apply maximum pressure to the point of incision.

I'm going to guess the windshield did it.

EDIT: After extensive peer review it was been decided that bears are fucking heavy and don't give a shit about your head.

[–]nikniuq 44 points45 points ago

I would say it was more of a head tearing off situation rather than a clean decapitation given the momentum of a flying bear.

Well, there is a sentence I didn't think I would be typing this morning...

[–]ExplodingUnicorns 1 point2 points ago

Technically your head doesn't need to come off to be decapitated. There is a term called internal decapitation, which is possible that these two in the car suffered.

[–]kceb 13 points14 points ago

Maybe he was flying with such force that the windshield didn't stop the bear from moving at speeds where it was still capable of taking off peoples heads?
The speed of the victims car also plays a role, if they were going a certain speed (lets say 45-55mph) and the bear impacted, it can have deadly outcomes.
Also, Decapitation is not always clean cut.
I'm not a scientist but it's just a guess.

[–]Anus_Blender 5 points6 points ago

I did neglect to consider the velocity of the car. That would add at least one metric fuckton of additional kinetic energy.

[–]JoeyProvolone 4 points5 points ago

Inertia is a property of matter.

[–]DNAmutator 3 points4 points ago

The bear smashed through the SUV's front windshield and out the back window.

source So there was enough force for the bear to travel through the front windshield, kill 2 people, and go out the back window. More interestingly, the driver's boyfriend sitting beside her SURVIVED. Only the driver and passenger directly behind her were killed.

[–]whitewateractual 2 points3 points ago

Maybe the bear was made of carbon fiber filled with iron? In that case the bear could have easily broken through the windshield and decapitated the two people.

[–]Broteezy 5 points6 points ago

You really put some thought into that, didn't you man?

[–]darkneo86 1 point2 points ago

You are a scientist. Or a wizard. The amount of logic and thought in your comment is amazing.

[–]Dante2k4 8 points9 points ago

Aw... aww...

I was laughing so hard...

But now everything is so sad :[

[–]icecreamcake724 2 points3 points ago

I remember hearing about this. It was a while ago. So sad :(.

[–]LORDJEW_VAN_CUNTFUCK 2 points3 points ago

Is the bear okay?

[–]herruhlen 38 points39 points ago

Hulk is but a learner in the art of bear throwing.

[–]wasdy1 22 points23 points ago

Haha, same actor! Lou Ferrigno must really fucking hate bears.

[–]ChairofBoogers 14 points15 points ago

I would watch a 30 minute drama of lou ferrigno throwing bears. Fox should get on that.

[–]wpiman 5 points6 points ago

This should be on the Colbert Report tomorrow night..... Steven where are you...

[–]nickaroo 9 points10 points ago

Seems legit.

[–]kabanaga 21 points22 points ago

No shit! That was my first thought as well: Not Often? There was another time?

[–]Jobe233 16 points17 points ago

[–]VaguelyCondescending 2 points3 points ago

"You've seen this before?!"

"...Eleven times matter of fact.."

[–]MikeKM 265 points266 points ago

Here's what really happened:

A car struck a bear, sending it flying into an oncoming car.

http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCATRE7573RN20110608

[–]Nate_Dogg31 180 points181 points ago

The bear also died

As if bears don't normally die from these kinds of accidents.

[–]ElKaBongX 66 points67 points ago

Deer can sometimes walk away from a collision that totals the car... I'd think a bear would be tougher

[–]VirtualAnarchy 120 points121 points ago

[–]ProfessorMcHugeBalls 13 points14 points ago

[–]Nate_Dogg31 11 points12 points ago

'Hunny, I know we've just had a traumatic life experience, but I really need to get some fucking food.'

[–]warped_and_bubbling 1 point2 points ago

I don't understand why they just didn't hit up the drive-thru. You got a deer all up in your grill? Hell, I'd be showing that bastard off.

[–]Seref15 9 points10 points ago

Somehow I think the deer at least limp away.

[–]stonedmason 1 point2 points ago

"then shot out of the back window"

[–]AetherIsWaiting 12 points13 points ago

You've never been to Canada have you?

[–]nameless88 8 points9 points ago

I like how it was added in as always an after thought.

It killed two people, and flew through the back window, too.

....Oh, yeah, also, it died.

[–]Nyarlathotep124 5 points6 points ago

Have you ever seen a bear? Those things are 500 pounds of pure badass. When car meets bear, it isn't uncommon for the bear to win.

[–]StanleyDarsh22 11 points12 points ago

this kills the bear

[–]ClearSilence 11 points12 points ago

I really want to know how fast you need to be going to send a 440 lb bear through a windshield and still have enough force to both kill two people and fly out the back window. Was it hit by a speeding truck??

[–]Smartio 17 points18 points ago

"I believe I can fl-" Thud

[–]wchawkins 7 points8 points ago

Holy fuck... So it broke through the windshield, decapitated the driver and person sitting behind them, then kept going - breaking through the rear windshield... I'm just... Wow. The speed required...

[–]MasterXploder 59 points60 points ago

[–]warped_and_bubbling 92 points93 points ago

HOLY SHIT ITS FINALLY HAPPENING

c'mon now, we all knew this day would come.

edit: the prophecy has been fulfilled

Oh I'm just a little black rain....cloud!

[–]Commenter_X 11 points12 points ago

Tut tut. It looks like rain.

[–]Ninjakrew 164 points165 points ago

Flying bears are the number 1 killer up here in Canada.

Source: I'm Canadian

[–]Yonderlane 71 points72 points ago

As another Canadian, I can second this statement. If you live in different regions then you may encounter different types of bears. In the Northern areas we have a significant problem with flying polar bears.

[–]tatems 71 points72 points ago

As a flying polar bear, I can confirm this.

[–]Xanthan81 35 points36 points ago

As someone who's only got Canadian stereotypes to go on, I believe you.

[–]AdvocateForLucifer 1 point2 points ago

As the Devil's Advocate, I can say you wouldn't like it down here.

[–]Outis5 21 points22 points ago

And now with the cross breeding of Polar and Grizzly bears we now have vicious, meat-eating, flying Grolar bear attacks steadily moving south! I should know. I'm Canadian.

[–]EXCESSIVE_FLIPTRICKS 10 points11 points ago

polar grizzly mixed nut variety yields granola bears

[–]reformedbassist 4 points5 points ago

If you live in Toronto, the bears can talk!

[–]Desinis 55 points56 points ago

these are russians...

[–]AdvocateForLucifer 20 points21 points ago

Well, yeah... they aren't flying.

[–]aryaf 24 points25 points ago

Narrowly beating out igloo collapses and maple syrup poisoning.

[–]bettorworse 11 points12 points ago

And hockey.

[–]Bloodfeastisleman 10 points11 points ago

And riots after hockey.

[–]alcabazar 3 points4 points ago

The riots don't usually count since people are using the igloo blocks, maple syrup, and hockey sticks as weapons.

[–]deathbytray 13 points14 points ago

Not true. Bears are completely harmless, especially the flying ones.

Source: I'm a flying bear.

[–]ciestaconquistador 7 points8 points ago

Nice try, bear.

[–]Dornath 1 point2 points ago

As a Canadian, I can confirm everything this man says.

[–]bunglejerry 38 points39 points ago

You mean Americans don't have flying bears? I'd hate to live in a country with no flying bears.

[–]Smartio 15 points16 points ago

We do have the Oompa Loompa. We tend to ship the larger ones to New Jersey.

[–]armauld 8 points9 points ago

The biggest one I've seen lives in trump tower and has his own reality show.

I think I'll take flying bears...

[–]Joeman45 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, they account for most of the deaths up here, but the meat is oh so delicious.

[–]SirCannonFodder 14 points15 points ago

[–]Averdrian 28 points29 points ago

Why do you think 90% of us live on the border? Similar to how the Nights Watch protects Westeros from White Walkers we protect North America from flying bears.

[–]SaentFu 13 points14 points ago

I have a new respect for Canadians now (as opposed to little or no, previously). You've done your country a great service. God save the queen.

[–]bigblackmac 8 points9 points ago

I feel like that's probably one of the best ways to die. "So, what happened to you?" asks St. Peter "Oh, you know...those damned flying bears"

[–]q00u 8 points9 points ago

This makes no sense!

All the flying bears I know are super gentle.

[–]big_trouser_snake 15 points16 points ago

[–]NegativeCreep420 3 points4 points ago

I actually know the guy that died in this accident, he worked with my dad years ago and I had met him and his son a few times. It's actually a sad story. :(

[–]Ryan_22 2 points3 points ago

Like the guy said, "we don't see this very often." Only every now and then.

[–]MezzaCorux 1 point2 points ago

HA! My Helicopter bear worked. Die Canadians Die!!!

[–]asnof 2 points3 points ago

We werent supposed to tell anyone, but here goes.

Us canadians are proud of our bears. So our national leaders had a secret pow-wow on how to make our animals better. It was determined that one would graft the wings of a cloned pterodactyl onto some bears. Only so we could share our greatest creature since the unicorn(theyre kept under wraps in the same building as the pterokodiak's).

During the "testing" stages the pair must have teamed up using their super-brains to escape the wretched place(they were only fed stale marshmallows and were forced to listen to madonna)

[–]oostalker 4 points5 points ago

We fucking warned them not to take drop bears overseas, we can deal with them here in Australia but the rest of the world IS NOT READY for them.

[–]definetlynotsam 2 points3 points ago

I could have sworn I locked that cage...

[–]Donnage 3 points4 points ago

You folks in the States don't keep flying bears as pets?

[–]TheAdeptMoron 1 point2 points ago

There's a documentary on youtube called bear force one the movie. I think that will clear things up

[–]Johnny_Thailborough 1 point2 points ago

Flying bear attacks are a lot more common up here than you'd think. The conservative media just keeps trying to cover it up. These stories are bad for tourism after all.

[–]LittleWho 0 points1 point ago

Ok. So the first vehicle actually hit the bear which projected through the second, oncoming vehicle. It happened very, very near to my home and animals are known the cross there all the time.

[–]Waitokkie 0 points1 point ago

well you're all doomed....

[–]PuzzledJigsaw -1 points0 points ago

[–]MagicMikegg 1 point2 points ago

Canada's greatest military secret is out. We were inspired by the Russian bear troops in red alert 3

[–]249ba36000029bbe9749 0 points1 point ago

They can take the bear and convert it into a larger version of the catcopter thus turning it back into a flying bear.

[–]Gorbon 1 point2 points ago

"We don't see (this) often..."

Can someone please explain the use of parentheses in this title. It was probably explained to me once upon a time, but I don't get it. Emphasis?

[–]Serenity101 3 points4 points ago

No, (this) replaces what the police spokesperson said in detail, but the editor wanted/needed to shorten it. He might have said "We don't see this kind of accident where wildlife is hit by one vehicle and is projected onto another vehicle often."

[–]PgunnG 1 point2 points ago

I read in another report, the bear was flying with so much force it went out the back window.

http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCATRE7573RN20110608

[–]sirprizes 1 point2 points ago

[–]theamazingape 1 point2 points ago
