that is all I really know about it.

and there is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOL

[–][deleted] 39 points40 points ago

Nope. "Lol" does not actually mean "laugh out loud" any more. It means "I found that humorous."

[–]Dassnissen 12 points13 points ago

^ IFTH, popularly referred to as LOL

[–]pillsbandydoughboy 8 points9 points ago

True. "Lol'd" is for when you actually do.

[–]Pineapple-Yetti 0 points1 point ago

Well said. I hadn't thought of that but yes I did find that humorous.

[–]thehornedone 14 points15 points ago

I thought that meant Lots of Love

[–]Imgonnatakeurcds 42 points43 points ago

"I'm sorry for your loss. LOL"

I lied.

[–]winnie_the_slayer 26 points27 points ago

Guys, I think he is referencing this

[–]juma606 0 points1 point ago

Derr.

[–]Kirk__Cameron 17 points18 points ago

Well, instead of "don't hate the sinner, hate the sin." /r/atheism is "hate the belief, not the believer."

Unless you're a fundie Christian... then we do in fact hate you.

[–]yourfrigginguide 2 points3 points ago

As I have from the very beginning

[–]Rainieri 10 points11 points ago

It all depends on your attitude. Some Christians come here and ask very honest and polite questions and some come here with an ax to grind. If you come here wirh guns blazing you are going to be shot down fairly quickly.

[–]AndAnAlbatross 88 points89 points ago

I am imagining this 100x more epic (exactly) by tiling together 100 of these from different movies. Or maybe just 25 different movies and some repeats and some desyncs. Until then, I can't vote on this. Sorry.

[–]Lobotomus_Prime 33 points34 points ago

I don't think you could fit it into a .gif, but you could probably do a put a 10-minute long video on youtube of "battle preparations" from different movies.

[–]matei1987[S] 115 points116 points ago

weekend project acknowledged

[–]OPscat 42 points43 points ago

I now have you tagged as "look for a project"

Surely OP will deliver.

[–]Parker_I 22 points23 points ago

You're his cat, you would know.

[–]OPscat 22 points23 points ago

If he doesn't, I'll lie on his keyboard for two straight weeks.

[–]Parker_I 7 points8 points ago

The horror!

[–]xxPhilosxx 10 points11 points ago

I read it as OP scat...

[–]wangchung16 6 points7 points ago

OP, now you will have to deliver. And I will be waiting.

[–]cathartica 2 points3 points ago

Gotta have the MacGruber whity tightities.

[–]kaczmarek 4 points5 points ago

I am actually now expecting this. Have you tagged.

[–]Benda 7 points8 points ago

Don't forget "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhe58xORWG0

[–]matei1987[S] 15 points16 points ago

Ok I'm actually going to try and put together a video this weekend of as many similar clips as I can find. Suggestions?

EDIT: Spelling

[–]dumnezero 14 points15 points ago

Matrix, Robocop, Alien, Predator, Rambo (obviously), James Bond movies, Iron Man, Kill Bill (not sure) or probably any other movies from Tarantino...

[–]stealthsock 13 points14 points ago

Hot Shots and some of the Batman movies also have scenes like this. Either way, greater minds than ours have already thoroughly explored and documented this phenomenon over at tvtropes.com.

[–]DrClaw_PhD 6 points7 points ago

This is a classic arming-of-the-hero scene from Greek epics. I would expect any war or superhero film to contain a scene like this.

[–]ell20 2 points3 points ago

Aaaaaaand there goes my productivity.

[–]elementsoul 6 points7 points ago

Could probably use the Boondock Saints, Half Past Dead, I think there's a usable scene in Ultraviolet, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Terminator movies, The first Punisher movie, probably anything that Bruce Willis stars in, Hot Fuzz, Lois had a good scene in family guy(not sure what episode though) I'll update with more as they come to me.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Fordiman 0 points1 point ago

And Scott Pilgrim.

[–]AndAnAlbatross 9 points10 points ago

Gotta recommend Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead

[–]razor4life 4 points5 points ago

[–]futureblap 1 point2 points ago

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Definitely Inglourious Basterds, specifically where Shoshanna puts on her lipstick.

[–]HymenAnnihilator 72 points73 points ago

Relax it's a start. Just remember that most christians are doing this and trying to type at the same time http://i.imgur.com/siCgD.gif

I fucking love reddit

[–]ReggieJ 2 points3 points ago

That pic expresses my feel very well.

[–]TheShadowFog 32 points33 points ago

Wow. Seriously?

[–]SIR_SNAKE 18 points19 points ago

Well that is more rude than I thought it would be...

[–]ncm3t4l 16 points17 points ago

As rude as asserting nonbelievers will roast in torture for eternity? Poppycock.

[–]cosmo120 0 points1 point ago

As rude as automatically assuming all Christians are the same judgmental assholes? Balderdash.

[–]fireline12 0 points1 point ago

If you want the moral high ground, you probably shouldn't call the opposition retarded.

[–]aeyuth 3 points4 points ago

even better? they'll have deserved it for not kissing ass.

[–]FactoverFaith 88 points89 points ago

[–]burtonmkz -3 points-2 points ago

I laughed, good take on it, but to me it seems more like this, where /r/atheism is Neo stopping poorly reasoned or crazy arguments in mid-air.

[–]fiveifrenzy6 24 points25 points ago

Or you could see it as the reverse. neo is the christian who is ignoring every logical argument that r/atheism throws at them and waving them away with circular reasoning.

[–]on_the_redpill 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, this is more accurate since there is one Christian listening to many atheists.

[–]goal2004 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, this is more accurate since there is one Christian pretending to listen to many atheists.

FTFY

[–]scandel95 3 points4 points ago

This.

[–]CudleWudles 5 points6 points ago

That.

[–]alexdelicious 7 points8 points ago

And the other thing.

[–]throwaway5345371 5 points6 points ago

The bravery in this thread is off the charts

[–]QuicklyMade 7 points8 points ago

I like when throwaways talk about bravery.

[–]justbarno 6 points7 points ago

I rented Commando at least 20 times as a kid, definitely spent more on rentals than the movie would have cost.

Was my favorite for at least 5 years.

[–]mrpeterandthepuffers 8 points9 points ago

My Grandpa had it on VHS. I would ask to go to my Grandpas every weekend and we would watch it together. Then we would eat ice cream and build forts.

Brb, going to hug Grandpa.

[–]ecb29 5 points6 points ago

FYI this is a popular literary trope known as Arming of the Hero, originating with Homer's Iliad.

[–]mowza 31 points32 points ago

How Christianity reacted to "I'm an atheist and I have some questions" for most of the last 2000 years. Teletubby edition

[–]tanhan27 3 points4 points ago

Does a past of being mistreated justify a present of mistreating others?

[–]Renownedwolfman 5 points6 points ago

Well the teletubby gif was actually what really happens, and the original gif with arny is more of a metaphor.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 0 points1 point ago

I did once kill an atheist telletubby for not believing in God, but I did it by drowning him, not with fire.

[–]Fordiman 22 points23 points ago

Persecution and murder == being a bit overcritical.

[–]nanoharker 0 points1 point ago

Only smart post in this thread and you get downvoted... Go /r/atheism!

[–]Rebdomine 6 points7 points ago

Are you fucking high? Getting butt hurt on the internet is the same as getting burned alive and persecuted? Grow the fuck up.

[–]Gnometard 16 points17 points ago

Funny how all the "Im christians and I have some questions" posts are nothing more than "I saw someone else post this shit 20 minutes ago, I want to try for myself now"

[–]yourfrigginguide 1 point2 points ago

Whenever we bring up some tough questions they can't answer they always make up a bullshit answer or avoid the question entirely. It's quite fun.

[–]coprolite_hobbyist 41 points42 points ago

There isn't nearly that much preparation needed.

[–]Jeroknite 47 points48 points ago

Yeah, but we like to make a show of it.

[–]sleepyj910 14 points15 points ago

I think the excitement level matches.

[–]Llim 2 points3 points ago

What movie is this?

[–]DrNingNing 3 points4 points ago

you should see how christians react to "I'm muslim and wish to live in 12th century western Europe", "I've studied the stars, and the sun is the center of our local system", "I'm atheist and would like a dialogue on god in schools"

[–]cantactuallyconfirm 4 points5 points ago

As an atheist who frequents the /r/atheism subreddit I can confirm that the vast majority of subscribers are committed to pumping you up.

[–]OurMisterBrooks 9 points10 points ago

They're arming themselves with facts.

[–]kriegler 10 points11 points ago

Personally, I think this attitude mostly comes from all the times christians come on here and are dicks. I know I was willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and answer questions calmly and fairly when I first started reading this sub. However, I've tango-ed with too many trolls and self-righteous, bigoted morons to be anything but skeptical whenever someone mentions that they are a christian here to 'talk'.

[–]stormchaser 4 points5 points ago

Dude you misspelled mormons

[–]Kalean 2 points3 points ago

I don't know - I've been treated pretty poorly in some instances without provocation. Of course, if I stick to the 'new' section that doesn't usually happen. It's usually on the front page posts that people get up in arms.

[–]krallice 3 points4 points ago

Bashing r/atheism on r/atheism is so meta

[–]Fordiman 0 points1 point ago

Who's bashing? This is a lighthearted joke by our standards.

[–]WolfySnackrib 1 point2 points ago

All done! Geared up and everything. What's your question?

[–]EvilAnagram 1 point2 points ago

That movie is awesome.

[–]AdmiralDave 1 point2 points ago

Stick around!

[–]DrClaw_PhD 1 point2 points ago

From the thumbnail pic, I was expecting him to disrobe.

[–]Beatcrushers 1 point2 points ago

I'm a christian and I have some qu... READ THE FAQ!!!

[–]Fohtman 2 points3 points ago

Youuuuu sonnnn offfff aaaa bitch (insert Arnold voice over)

[–]mgmulet 2 points3 points ago

What a nice fantasy...because in real life, its exactly the other way around!

[–]TheDisillusionist 1 point2 points ago

"Remember when I said I'd kill your faith in scriptural justification last?"

"That's right, atheist, you did!"

"I lied"

[–]trunky 1 point2 points ago

Commando is one of the funniest movies of all time.

[–]ElGuano 2 points3 points ago

To be fair he did come on and right out ask "why are you so full of hate?"

[–]theycallmestew 1 point2 points ago

The weapons and ammo being fact, rational thinking, and evidence, right?

[–]simsoy 6 points7 points ago

In all honesty we shouldn't react in that way to people being different or thinking different things than us.

[–]sj070707 4 points5 points ago

And they're always "honest" questions too.

[–]RhomboidStorm 1 point2 points ago

They may not always be "honest" questions, but we should treat them as such. To do otherwise, while theaputic, is ultimately detrimental to our cause. We are supposed to be the ones using reasoning over "gut feeling". If someone trolls, answer with a smile and let them look the fool.

[–]ncm3t4l 8 points9 points ago

"I assert fairy tales are true without question, but I have questions..." Makes NO fucking sense.

[–]zombiesingularity 12 points13 points ago

Questions about atheism, I'm pretty sure he meant.

[–]Subhazard 15 points16 points ago

Do we really want to punish people for asking questions? Isn't that was atheism is all about?

[–]Tanbobman5 7 points8 points ago

TIL theists literally are not allowed to question anything as long as they believe in god

[–]ncm3t4l 1 point2 points ago

You learned that today, they learn that before they can begin to think.

[–]on_the_redpill 2 points3 points ago

That's how you know they're on the path from the doublethink stage to the cognitive dissonance stage.

[–]CombinationPizzaTaco 1 point2 points ago

Calm yourself Arnie, save it for the fight.

[–]nexlux 4 points5 points ago

I am the opposite, I try to answer any sincere questions as best as possible in a welcoming way. Not everyone is forced to follow laws dictating your every aspect of life and I like to make that clear to those who have not had the chance to see this.

[–]B0ldly_Going_N0where 3 points4 points ago

[–]pdxb3 1 point2 points ago

"Hi traditional southern pentecostal church, sorry to interrupt your snake-shakin' ceremony... I'm a muslim and firm believer in sharia law, and I've got a few questions..."

[–]WallOfSoup 0 points1 point ago

And the answer typically is: "All that stuff that you believe in that cannot be proven nor disproved scientifically? Well you are wrong and stupid for thinking that way and we are right because Atheism is slightly less like that. We mock you . "

You all are really agnostic and don't know it (I hope. Otherwise you all are as equally fucking retarded as a fundie bookthumper). Grow up. Once you accept that, things get easier and you can finally concentrate on stuff that actually matters in this short life you have.

[–]foevalovinjah 3 points4 points ago

This is the post that will make me unsubscribe. If this is what gets upvoted its proof of how young the group is.

[–]Sketch257 1 point2 points ago

bye

[–]Fordiman 0 points1 point ago

Go on then. Make sure to create a whiny self-post on your way out, sonny.

[–]oddballodd 7 points8 points ago

"I'm a Christian and I have some questions" means "I hope you don't mind if I try convincing you of something that you don't believe".

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points ago

I was once a Christian, and I had some questions.

[–]ProjectD13X 7 points8 points ago

Same, they got answered

[–]clashmo 2 points3 points ago

its the only way to get out.

[–]on_the_redpill 6 points7 points ago

Not necessarily

[–]smashpants 5 points6 points ago

This is completely true. I'm an atheist and there are some of the biggest assholes on r/atheism. So, you don't believe in God? Cool. So you're smarter, wiser and better looking than everyone else? Cool. Please, continue being a dick.

[–]IgorsEpiskais 1 point2 points ago

Nice one, here you go, one internetz, sir. You earned it!

[–]GuessWho_O 1 point2 points ago

How Cristians react when Athiest have questions.

[–]1nf1del 1 point2 points ago

Fantastic. I love it when I laugh awkwardly in a quiet public place. Well done, sir.

[–]CodeRedFox 1 point2 points ago

Some one should replace all the weapons with books...

[–]dboy05 0 points1 point ago

so atheists do the same thing that they hate christians for and that is being open about their "religion" or lack of?

[–]darkangelx 2 points3 points ago

We hate being prepared for a battle of wits even though we know our opponent(s) will be coming unarmed? Yes yes we do.

[–]stlouisbrowns -1 points0 points ago

Any Xtian who goes to /atheism to "ask questions" is selling, not buying.

[–]WilliamAgain -1 points0 points ago

You guys ever wonder why r/atheism is treated as a joke by 99.8% of the other communities?

[–]FSMfan 5 points6 points ago

No but I do wonder why all the people that hate it, come to it, read it, and post to bitch about it so often.

[–]Fordiman 2 points3 points ago

Because people believe silly shit.

[–]vadergeek 0 points1 point ago

So, I should start all my answers with "ICE to meet you"?

[–]the_last_carfighter 0 points1 point ago

Arnold says: iz twuu

[–]Demotic 0 points1 point ago

That's an understatement.

[–]Lisawatchesmefap 0 points1 point ago

hello, helloo,hellooo,helloooo and goodbye

[–]Klaus_Uberstein 0 points1 point ago

In one of my classes in grade school I looked into someone's desk and saw a black marker and I did my face like that because Commando was my favourite movie. I didn't understand why the teacher was so mad but she made me apologize to the owner of the desk for using her markers.

[–]felipec 0 points1 point ago

Shoot :D

[–]stereotypeless 0 points1 point ago

Commando...my god where's my vhs player

[–]Deahtop 1 point2 points ago

Arnold's a Christian. He's also a republican.

[–]ZackyBeatz 1 point2 points ago

LoL...

[–]Rayneworks 1 point2 points ago

I like how he hits the grip of the revolver like he's loading a magazine fed handgun.

[–]Longjohn_Server 1 point2 points ago

It's rather apt. The armor and weaponry represent the collections of evidence we atheists can use to respond to questions. Either to defend ourselves from attack, or to attack in retaliation.

[–]Pianotico 1 point2 points ago

I don't need to be more than half awake with a sandal in my hand to be honest.

[–]FeloniousD 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit, I BELIEVE!! I've seen the light! Miracles can happen. How else would a commando gif get posted when I myself am going commando for the first time in like five years? Praise Jesus!

[–]Chelliott 0 points1 point ago

This is classic!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]smthingwitty 0 points1 point ago

Ahnuld's ready to shoot down some sky wizards now

[–]SexWithTwins 1 point2 points ago

The painful truth is, the reason why "we" tend to act like that sometimes, is because of the times we've asked questions of theists, and after the preliminary politeness have been told everything from "it's not supposed to make sense" to "I don't want to see you burn in hell", as if that's supposed to instantly turn us into Billy Graham.

[–]footballguy15 1 point2 points ago

Can I see an example?

[–]DrDeath666 0 points1 point ago

I love when reddit makes me, literally, laugh out loud.

[–]andersonb47 0 points1 point ago

Does anyone have a slower version of this? I actually found it more amusing as it loaded.

[–]Skepgnostic 0 points1 point ago

Not quite.

[–]pkkilo 0 points1 point ago

that is the greatest action comedy ever. And at first viewing Bennett seems like a terrible villain and looks to be totally outmatched by Arnold's character. However, after a couple of viewing you realize that he is in fact an amazing villain, and absolutely hilarious. Quite possibly my favorite movie villain ever and my favorite film.

[–]Noxdus 1 point2 points ago

This belongs in /r/funny

[–]ibangwhores 0 points1 point ago

Hilarious

[–]WickedMystic4 0 points1 point ago
