I would love to have this staircase! But then I realised I have a husband who leaves drawers and cupboards open... might spell disaster, coming down the stairs in the dark, only to step into a drawer rather than on a step.

[–]camackid 4 points5 points ago

Maybe if the drawers were on enough of an angle (not the stairs, the drawers) they could slide back in when not in use. That or a mechanism that is similar.

[–]Forever_Forgotten 2 points3 points ago

I vote for spring-loaded drawers.

[–]kscheller 2 points3 points ago

That's my fear with this as well

[–]llxGRIMxll 0 points1 point ago

If it were my stairs I would make the 3 that you actually walk over fake drawers so that it matches the rest without future problems. Personally I would never use those 3 anyway.

[–]Skyblacker 0 points1 point ago

That was my first thought too.

[–]jimney05 8 points9 points ago

Dat storage!

[–]zyzyxxz 7 points8 points ago

Big fan of maximizing space or "reclaiming" space.

[–]SofaKingTired 4 points5 points ago

If you guys are into the maximizing small spaces idea, check out Sarah Susanka, who has written a series of books on the subject.

It's transformed the way I think about home construction.

[–]zyzyxxz 1 point2 points ago

Ooh appreciate it, will be useful for my future loft if I ever become financially independent.

[–]Loztwallet 6 points7 points ago

Yeah, this is awesome.

[–]NarglesEverywhere 4 points5 points ago

You could fit a lot of "Harry Potter"s under those stairs.

[–]seashanty 6 points7 points ago

You would have to chop them up pretty small though.

[–]kontra5 2 points3 points ago

What if you leave drawers out, how do people upstairs come down then?

[–]dotsau 13 points14 points ago

Very quickly.

[–]EastenNinja 0 points1 point ago

Well yeah, I have the same question,

are the draws part of the support structure for the stairs or are they independent?

[–]appr0priati0n 9 points10 points ago

It looks like the wood frame around the drawers is the structure. I don't think the drawers would roll easily if they were supporting anything.

[–]Beknopt 1 point2 points ago

Yeah would be better to but the drawers sideways of the stairs not on front. This is just asking for trouble.

[–]leedlebug 3 points4 points ago

I'm convinced if I had tons of tiny drawers all over my house, that my house would always be spotlessly organized.

[–]chei 1 point2 points ago

Looks amazing!

[–]antemon 0 points1 point ago

but where will what's-his-name sleep?

[–]gg4465a 1 point2 points ago

HARRY POTTER

[–]elHuron 0 points1 point ago

I think antemon was confused and meant he-who-must-not-be-named.

[–]smadams 0 points1 point ago

This is beautiful, but I feel like my foot would catch every single one of those handles...

[–]Jose_Monteverde 0 points1 point ago

reminds me of harry potter even though there's no room :P Good stuff, i'll do that at my home!

[–]archiface 0 points1 point ago

The sound from walking up and down that would drive me nuts. Loud thuds from your footsteps resonating thru the wooden boxes.

[–]BackScratcher 5 points6 points ago

Well usually it would be an empty space or a cloak room, so if anything it would dampen the noise.

[–]w3rt -1 points0 points ago

Without a doubt, the best post this subreddit has seen.
