They haven't been called British Petroleum for a very long time, they are now just called BP. This happened in 1998. They are sponsoring Team USA because the majority of the shareholders are from the US.

I think for a while they were campaigning "Beyond Petroleum"...which is kinda stupid haha. Either way, you're right, hasn't been British Petroleum for quite some time.

Because they sell their product in the USA that is the main reason

[–]TheB1ade -1 points0 points ago

That and they could use some good publicity in the US

This is exactly why it was so batshit retarded when all the americans were blaming is for fucking up the gulf. It's your company

[–]Sergeantman94 4 points5 points ago

They're saying "Sorry that we fucked up your gulf."

[–]njp999 2 points3 points ago

We're sorry...

[–]donashcroft 1 point2 points ago

they are owned by Americans, plus america buys most of the oil they extract so its good to make Americans feel patriotic when buying oil from BP its all just marketing

Every time the Olympics come around, I'm always shocked that it's sponsored by McDonalds and Coca-Cola. Just seems so backwards on a sports program.

Carrots and Milk find it difficult to justify that kind of cash outlay

[–]EngineerDave 0 points1 point ago

Because they owe us.

$

More of its shares are held by americans,

[–]Jon3laze 0 points1 point ago

I said that exact same thing last night. I think they are still trying to get brownie points for fucking up the gulf.

[–]dark_green 0 points1 point ago

Because they enjoy the way their oil mixes with our beaches, duh.

[–]USMCEvan 0 points1 point ago

Cuz we're the ones buying and using all the oil.
