2 seconds is the difference between a reddit .gif and a spot on "1,000 ways to die".

[–]fireuzer 601 points602 points ago

It'll be a reddit .gif either way, the 2 seconds determines which subreddit it goes into.

[–]B_RAD_8 167 points168 points ago

2 seconds away from r/WTF. clearly.

[–]elonepb 124 points125 points ago

And a NSFL tag

[–]jakfischer 70 points71 points ago

[–]sleepybeef 2 points3 points ago

That skull was my favorite!

[–]Elidor 8 points9 points ago

There should be a subreddit called r/holdmybeerandwatchthis

[–]MrJuwi 15 points16 points ago

[–]jdubs222 23 points24 points ago

Well, that's enough internet for one day... Damn you, I just got on, too.

[–]travelingmama 14 points15 points ago

Went there long enough to read the titles. My curiosity is raging, but my desire to sleep and live the rest of my life in peace is stronger. shudders how are people into that??

[–]ARGHJP 2 points3 points ago

I'm not into that and I just sat and watched every single one. I'm pretty desensitised to most things, I'm just curious I guess. I feel very sick and very weak and insignificant right now though.

[–]travelingmama 5 points6 points ago

I don't think you really have to be into them if you watch them (ie I don't think you're a psychopath for watching them). I'm more talking about the people that subscribe to it and post. Just seems kind of weird to seek them out. I'm sure some of them are normal people, but I can't help thinking if you really enjoy watching people die (not just curious about it) that there's something a little off about you!

[–]ARGHJP 2 points3 points ago

Yeah I can't imagine anybody watching them and being like "wow! These are so cool! I want to see more!" more like "oh god....eurgh *squints eyes eurghhhh *sad face" next link.

The hell is wrong with me?! These two subs just took up a Huge chunk of my evening. O.o

[–]MisterDonkey 24 points25 points ago

One of these guys might have made that spot. He ain't doin' too much movin'.

[–]UprootedEagle 53 points54 points ago

He's just stunned. The grenade was able to go deep enough that no shrapnel hit the people. The guy laying down is probably just in shock, and they are both probably deaf. And maybe the guy laying down is mad that he lost his bucket.

[–]lord_james 11 points12 points ago

I was going to say, what about the bucket?!

[–]neightdog 4 points5 points ago

OH NO THEY BE STEALIN MAH BUKKIT

[–]celticninja 13 points14 points ago

I dont think he is dead but he might have lost an arm.

http://gif-explode.com/http://i.minus.com/ibn1vAS3Zk6Qo4.gif

frames 17-21 (roughly) show a red/orange chunk in the bottom left corner which may be part of the gentlemans arm.

[–]Cinemaphreak 7 points8 points ago

the orange whateveritis can be seen at the start, BEFORE the explosion.

[–]attilad 5 points6 points ago

He still has his arm in frame 13, and you can see the bright orange chunk come from the front of the boat.

[–]Metalhead62 16 points17 points ago

But it's real, it couldn't have been on 1000 Ways to Die.

[–]rkanjel 13 points14 points ago

2 seconds between r/gifs and r/watchpeopledie

[–]Fugedabout 46 points47 points ago

I deeply Deeply regret going to that sub

[–]mainemade 16 points17 points ago

Perhaps it's something you should just "fugedabout."

[–]Fugedabout 2 points3 points ago

You are one of very few people who actually understand my username, Most people think it says Fudgedabout.

[–]bobalobbillybob 7 points8 points ago

I've found that by going there, r/gore and r/morbidreality it helps me be grateful for the lack of that shit going on around me.

It's also "fun" to see how far you can push yourself before you get upset by something. I don't mind seeing people die/get cut in half or having their fingers cut off, arms or legs broken or other wild shit by islamic type regimes but I draw the line at animals and children being hurt. I can handle seeing a stupid kid get hurt but I don't really enjoy seeing a dog thrown off a bridge or a cat set on fire. At the same time it doesn't fill me with disgust or rage, it just makes me shake my head in disappointment.

In morbidreality there was a vid of a kid getting his tonsils removed without any sedation or anything. It didn't gross me out or upset me but I did understand how terrified he must have been and that he will have trouble with trust issues later.

The castration/circumcision vids to make me cringe a bit but I can still manage to watch them all the way through.

I'm just trying to prepare myself for the zombie apocalypse where they start ripping people apart while they are still alive and making a buffet out of their "extra organs".

[–]seekingwhat 47 points48 points ago

uhh...ok buddy (leaves room)

[–]vefobitseq 5 points6 points ago

I dont know you,and i know this is unfair, but i hate you now. I watched the brick video there goes my day.

[–]retoriplastique 4 points5 points ago

Brick video? I'm too pussy to search or watch, can you describe it?

[–]Swift3lade 3 points4 points ago

Don'T WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T DON'T DON'T.... it's actually not that bad until you hear the people freaking out (the sounds) of pure sadness. Then your imagination starts imagining what exactly the person looks like that got hit. Then you imagine it happening to someone you love. Then you start to hyperventilate. Then it makes you want to go hug someone you love. Then it makes you scared as hell thinking something like that could happen to someone you love!! AAAACCCK!!!!

[–]vefobitseq 2 points3 points ago

Guy driving down road. Big truck loses a brick. Guy driving sees brick coming at him. Brick hits passenger side of windshield. Guy pulls over. crying something. Seems like brick meeting face.

[–]TurtleBisque 1 point2 points ago

That one fucked me up for awhile. Still kinda am :( It was in WTF awhile back, ugh.

[–]darkmdbeener 2 points3 points ago

Is this the one with the crying kids screaming "MOM!".

well... either way fuck that subreddit...

[–]Swift3lade 2 points3 points ago

Me too, I want to go snuggle up to everyone I love.

[–]Ceejae 4 points5 points ago

Two seconds? More like one second, tops. Probably less. That was so unbelievably close to just blowing up in his hand.

It doesn't look like the gif is sped up either, though it is possible.

[–]rayraysayshi 38 points39 points ago

My dad told me he had been "dynamite fishing" before. He tossed it in and like 100 fish floated to the top of the water. He didn't want 100 fish.

[–]SG804 23 points24 points ago

Unnatural selection- only the grenade-proof fish survived, so steer clear of that body of water. Those are fucking superfish.

[–]Duvidl 24 points25 points ago

I imagine I'd feel pretty bad after that...

[–][deleted] 41 points42 points ago

Nah, the 100 fish just floated up to see who the fuck was throwing dynamite at their homes. They were all fine, if not a bit shaken up.

[–]dickcheney777 1 point2 points ago

At least dynamite sticks dont have shrapnel included.

[–]soh_based 32 points33 points ago

I do this in GTA.

[–]skillet42 34 points35 points ago

"I'll just toss this grenade over the edge of this building here, its impossible to miss at a distance of ~18 inches.

No..wait......yep, it dropped between my feet.

I'm good at this.

"

[–]doctor_rabbit 162 points163 points ago

I...wha...why?

[–]Dillbill 165 points166 points ago

Nothin' like some good old grenade fishin'.

[–]Geachh 103 points104 points ago

Surely you could throw it a tad further from the boat though, right?! Oh well. Russians be crazy.

[–]smok_e_wan_kenobie 115 points116 points ago

They were high on krokodil

[–]hinduguru 33 points34 points ago

I don't know why anyone fucks with that stuff. Isn't that the drug that eats away at your flesh?

[–]Avien 44 points45 points ago

It eats away at the flesh because the addicts that synthesize the drug shoot it up while it's still swimming in toxins and corrosive byproducts.

It's about 8-10 times more potent than Morphine, and you can imagine how much more addictive it is as well.

[–]F22Rapture 18 points19 points ago

A good deal of the addictiveness is due to the whole "flesh rotting byproducts" thing. Once you start that ball rolling you're going to want some major painkillers and more krokodil is the only thing they have on hand...

[–]necrodude 5 points6 points ago

I wonder if the more pure form would do less damage? The by products created during the synthesis must be some pretty potent stuff, life expectancy of a habitual user is 2-3 years... I read that codeine, phosphorous and iodine are used and they are all pretty safe on there own. I'm probably asking the wrote person but if someone can explain to a very curious armchair chemist would be much appreciated.

EDIT: I'm not interested in making the stuff. I'm interested in the science.

[–]snoharm 3 points4 points ago

Not an armchair chemist myself, but the problem is that people tend to find whatever they can over-the-counter with codeine in it, mix it with household ingredients, and then jam a needle full of their home-made poultice right into their arms.

The thing with most things is that you don't want to inject them into your arms. If they hit a vein, they're poisoning themselves with alarming efficiency, but if they miss a vein they're going to cause a horrible abscess.

Because junkies are junkies, they're likely to keep shooting up and making that abscess worse rather than going to the hospital. So their skin rots and falls off, leaving them to die of infection.

[–]necrodude 5 points6 points ago

Sometimes I forget junkies will be junkies. Still, I wonder how much safer the pure product is.

[–]uberyeti 5 points6 points ago

Codeine's fine if you dose it correctly (same for all opiates) - they won't kill you on their own, but they are highly addictive. Just for reference, codeine belongs to the same family of drugs as opium, heroin, diamorphine, desomorphine, methadone and oxycodone to name a few. Collectively they are known as the opioids. A smaller subset of this group, the opiates, are those compounds found naturally in the opium poppy. These include codeine and morphine.

The damage comes from the impurity of the drugs. Opioid overdose in itself is dangerous, causing respiratory depression and organ failure in a similar manner to an alcohol overdose. This, however, is not the main danger of krokodil or most other drugs of this class.

Heroin has been cut with who-knows-what on its way from the poppy fields to your arm, and it may be anything from 10% to 90% pure. You just don't know how much morphine you're getting from a given dose until you take it, or what else is in there. The unpredictable strength of the drug leads to some overdose deaths, while the impurities cause toxicity and dirty needles spread infection.

Krokodil is brewed up from codeine and, as you say, various other ingredients to produce desomorphine. The process is extremely crude and creates an impure mixture containing other compounds including, as you say, some of the iodine and phosphorus used to make the desomorphine.

Iodine and phosphorus are NOT something you ever want to inject into your bloodstream. Both are toxic in their elemental forms, with iodine also forming an acid when dissolved in water (blood). Dilute iodine solution is safe to wash skin with, because your skin is fairly impermeable and the iodine concentration is low. When you inject it right into your body you're playing a whole different ball game - same with phosphorus, but personally I wouldn't want to touch that stuff at all.

Krokodil's some nasty shit, and if there was any sense in the world the Russian government would provide clean, pure morphine to those addicted to it. Morphine is cheap, and since the addicts cannot stop they might as well be given a source of it which won't kill them, administered by a nurse who can look after them. The Swiss tried this idea back in the early 90s, and heroin deaths and HIV infection caused by shared needles dropped off to basically zero within a couple of years.

So in answer to your question, yes, the pure form will do less damage. The pure form (as administered in hospitals and as prescription medication) will do you no damage at all in fact, though you will still become addicted to it with regular use.

You are very wrong. Concussion grenades don't explode like that. They dropped a fragmentation grenade, or maybe a stick of dynamite.

[–]happyphilter 20 points21 points ago

I'd have thought the same but it doesn't appear the boat was punctured. If it was a frag it would have shredded the boat, that grenade wasn't more than a few inches into the water.

I am probably wrong about it being a concussion grenade. It's most likely some explosive they rigged up.

[–]Bernie_Roscoe 17 points18 points ago

"damage"

[–]sturle 5 points6 points ago

"When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is no longer your friend." Amazingly few people understand this.

[–]eb86 6 points7 points ago

Definitely a frag.

[–]Office_Zombie 8 points9 points ago

Should the fuse be that short on a grenade?

[–]LukaCola 31 points32 points ago

We don't know when he let go of the spoon, nor are we seeing it in its full framerate.

And depending on the grenade, yes, it could be. RGD-5 grenades were notoriously shitty, if it were old or perhaps simply poorly manufactured the fuse can be rather unpredictable.

[–]Office_Zombie 132 points133 points ago

Here is the original video. Watched in 720P and it looks like a 2 second fuse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWSw5odsFrw

[–]strallweat 7 points8 points ago

Yeah. You need to be at the top of this thread. That video shows so much more detail. Thank you.

[–]Office_Zombie 6 points7 points ago

Thanks; but I can't take credit. Someone else found it. They are up higher.

[–]strallweat 0 points1 point ago

Ahh ok, good of you to be honest about it.

[–]Styrak 4 points5 points ago

That's less than a 2 second fuse. Maybe 1 or 1.5

In either case, you're gonna have a bad time.

[–]Freefall_ 5 points6 points ago

An important reminder for cooking off grenades, at least for the US military: every last one is made by the lowest bidder.

[–]acog 13 points14 points ago

I know that's the joke, but I did a stint working as a civilian at a Naval weapons center, my experience was that Mil-spec items have to be tested to meet very high standards. That's one of the reasons they're so damn expensive. You don't put consumer-grade electronics in a missile that experiences hundreds of G's of acceleration at launch, for example.

I'm sure there are many examples of SNAFUs, but in general American military hardware is made to a higher, more uniform standard than arms from other nations.

[–]andersonb47 0 points1 point ago

Certainly would've punctured their boat.

[–]Mik-l 2 points3 points ago

The boat is punctured, luckily it has a solid bottom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWSw5odsFrw

[–]idio3 17 points18 points ago

[–]SandwichTsunami 3 points4 points ago

[–]Cinemaphreak 4 points5 points ago

Apparently, this was a Russian movie/TV production.

In the video, you can hear someone giving them instructions. And no one seems too excited by the outcome.

Which means, all the "what kind of grenade was it?" debate was pointless. The grenade was a dummy, the explosives already in the water.

Of course, now we can all have an equally pointless debate about whether the outcome was fully intended or did the FX guys place it too close to the surface....

[–]andrewsmith1986 37 points38 points ago

What did they drop?

Were they trying to dynamite fish?

[–]AlyoshaV[S] 101 points102 points ago

Now that I've found a copy of the original video, it looks like a grenade.

[–]Guboj 1 point2 points ago

Is that GIF sped up? Or is it that water is just that good at absorbing the blast? Because from the time he dropped the grenade to the time it exploded it couldn't have been submerged more than a half meter of water.
