Dr Cooper*

[–]pgrily 39 points40 points ago

I came in here expecting Hangin' with Mr. Cooper.

[–]ItsAaronR 8 points9 points ago

Same

[–]Tbeckmanly 4 points5 points ago

Same, I was seriously disappointed.

[–]zaahnjanson 3 points4 points ago

Yeah me too

[–]wolf_man007 1 point2 points ago

Same here. So disappointing. At least that show did fact-checking.

[–]pgrily 0 points1 point ago

BBT does a pretty good job getting their stuff straight.

[–]wolf_man007 0 points1 point ago

[–]pgrily 0 points1 point ago

It's not 100% accurate, but they do keep it kosher for the most part.

The day r/funny gone rogue.

[–]Goldmine44 162 points163 points ago

Here we go again, the show that Reddit loves to hate.

[–]Alabama_Man 67 points68 points ago

How else are we supposed to feel better than everybody else than to voice disdain for the guilty pleasures of the masses... personal accomplishment? I don't think so.

[–]EpicJ 29 points30 points ago

It's just because all of the slightly nerdier redditors always get called Sheldon so a dislike towards the program happens.

[–]dr_professor_patrick 22 points23 points ago

Oh, so it's like in south park when Cartman hates family guy.

"Wow Sheldon you've spent along time analyzing The Big Bang theory please tell me more"

Bored Expression

laugh track

(these comedy shows write themselves)

[–]mizike 38 points39 points ago

Totally.

"Barney, where have you been?"
"Having sex and let me tell you it was legen-waitforit-dary"
laugh track

Oh wait, reddit finds that show hilarious...

[–]EpicJ 4 points5 points ago

What show is that?

[–]mizike 21 points22 points ago

How I Met Your Mother. It's a sit-com that's very similar to the Big Bang Theory in many ways - target audience, how the show is filmed and presented, the delivery of and style of the jokes, overuse of laugh track, etc., Reddit hates the Big Bang Theory and adores How I Met Your Mother while somehow failing to notice how similar the two shows are.

[–]stone500 13 points14 points ago

I enjoy both shows, but a big difference between the two is that TBBT is almost 100% cheeky humor, whereas HIMYM actually hits hard with some emotional drama and reality.

TBBT has almost no tearjerkers. Marshall's dad in HIMYM dies at the end of an episode where Marshall had everything going for him.

[–]dominoanty 9 points10 points ago

Also, Neil Patrick Harris.

[–]shroomprinter 10 points11 points ago

If it makes you feel any better, I dislike both shows.

[–]iRape4Sport 5 points6 points ago

The differences are important. The writers and the actors.

[–]Kunkletown 2 points3 points ago

There's nothing inherently wrong with the style. It is just the quality of writing that make the difference. Plus, NPH! His character might be a walking cliché, but that's the point. Besides the writing, How I Met Your Mother just has feeling.

Being "similar" doesn't mean I have to feel the same way about both programs.

[–]mizike 0 points1 point ago

You know, I've got to hand it to Neil Patrick Harris; he turned a bit part in a stoner comedy into a full fledged public persona and steady work for over half a decade. Not many people would have been able to capitalize on that opportunity.

Also, I disagree that the writing is better on How I Met Your Mother. I'd go so far as to say you could swap the writing staffs of BBT and HIMYM and nobody would notice.

[–]Offensive_Username2 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry but they simply aren't similar. The jokes aren't the same, the acting and writing quality isn't the same, the characters and the theme/point of the shows are different.

You're just mad that reddit doesn't like your show.

[–]kissy_re 0 points1 point ago

How I Met Your Mother

[–]EpicJ 0 points1 point ago

Can't say I've watched it so I don't really know

[–]Offensive_Username2 0 points1 point ago

Reddit hates that show.

[–]EntingFantastic 7 points8 points ago

I don't like the laugh track in The Colbert Report in that same regard. Everything he says the audience laughs. Obviously his jokes are better than what you mentioned, but seriously they're not that funny.

[–]doctorhuh 6 points7 points ago

It's more a result of the situation I would imagine. You know you're supposed to laugh at the jokes, so you laugh harder than you normally would. It's like when you watch a show alone, and only a really funny, unexpected joke can make you laugh out loud. But when you watch it with friends, you laugh audibly for almost every joke. It's that times 150 extra people.

[–]Candle_Jack_ 0 points1 point ago

laugh track is probably just used as a filler, after the whole show their could be 5 minutes of laughing

[–]_Madk 7 points8 points ago

And yet I still chuckled

Life is more fun when it's not difficult to be amused, it means you get to watch and genuinely enjoy more shows.

[–]10splitmind 3 points4 points ago

Not sure why you got downvoted. You're pretty much spot on.

[–]impshial 8 points9 points ago

[–]Pheylan 6 points7 points ago

I don't understand why people are so keen to make this distinction. There's still laughter in the end product (which alters the pace of the show) - why does it matter how it got there?

[–]TheUnknownFactor 7 points8 points ago

The only real distinction being made is that this is the big bang theory.

Other shows with equal background laughter never have this issue brought up. People bring it up for the sake of having something to bring up, because it's the big bang theory.

[–]Offensive_Username2 0 points1 point ago

Other shows with equal background laughter

These don't exist.

[–]flawlesslylogical 0 points1 point ago

I don't see why it matters either. Live audiences have laughed at every bad joke in Friends, Will & Grace, Two and Half Men etc. Live audiences are just idiots.

[–]80cent 5 points6 points ago

Okay, fake laughter, then? Those inappropriate laughs are not an appropriate response to every line of any show.

[–]logicalnoise 0 points1 point ago

They are real but they also are set up a lot. The audience is there to laugh, why else would they come. They get warmed up by pro comedians who get paid a lot more to do this that to do a slot at the local comedy club. The audio is always mixed to who ever laughs the most and loudest.

[–]thjasse 3 points4 points ago

Do those of you who use the laugh track as a reason to hate this show also hate Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, How I met Your Mother, King of Queens... and every other sitcom that has laughter from an audience either canned or augmented?

If not than find another reason.

[–]impshial 5 points6 points ago

I could care less. I like BBT and don't let the laugh track get in the way.

I do notice that I am more likely to laugh at a joke when I am being told to by a laugh track, whether it's funny or not.

When I watch shows like Community, The Office and Scrubs, I find the humor funnier and the writing better because I laughing at what I think is funny, not what I am being cue'd to laugh at.

[–]TheBiffledon 1 point2 points ago

This is how I feel as well. Laugh tracks are nice, but the freedom of laughter is also nice. Also, 30 Rock.

[–]Kunkletown 0 points1 point ago

I hardly notice it in those other shows. It is REALLY obnoxious in TBBT. In other shows, there's more of a murmur when someon says someting vaguely funny. Like a group chuckle. But in TBBT, people are rolling on the floor laughing over the most innocent of line. Lines that I'm not even sure were MEANT to be funny.

[–]lundah 1 point2 points ago

Just to spite you, instead of downvoting, I read this in Sheldon Cooper's voice. Much funnier that way.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]lundah 0 points1 point ago

Touché. Have an upboat.

[–]Alabama_Man 6 points7 points ago

It's just because all of the slightly nerdier redditors always get called Sheldon...

Huh, what? This is a thing? I've never heard this.

[–]ThatGuyYouKnow 1 point2 points ago

You must not be a nerdy redditor.

Note: I have never had it happen to me either.

[–]Uncoolio 3 points4 points ago

It happens to me constantly. I can't say I mind though, because before Sheldon they were all calling me Kip Dynamite.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Get back to work Kip.

[–]Uncoolio 4 points5 points ago

Don't be jealous because I've been chatting on reddit with babes all day.

[–]Needbouttreefiddy 0 points1 point ago

JJJJJJEEEEEEEZZZZZZ

[–]Einarath 2 points3 points ago

It definitely is.

I was a Physics student in University. Anytime I happened to mention it to people outside of the University bubble the person would immediately say "Oh I love the Big Bang theory show! Are you like Sheldon or Leonard?"

It happened a LOT.

[–]camelFace 1 point2 points ago

These are also the same people who take online quizzes to figure out "Which Character From Harry Potter/The Hunger Games/The Avengers Are You?!"

Too young to remember ebaums, LiveJournal, and MySpace? I went through high school as Costanza, this is nothing unique to the Big Bang Theory or its audience.

[–]Alabama_Man 3 points4 points ago

How often do you mention that you were a Physics student in University? Maybe they were asking if your work was in theoretical physics (Sheldon) or experimental physics (Leonard).

[–]shadowdude777 2 points3 points ago

Someone who is smart enough to know the difference between theoretical and experimental physics would not pose the question in the form of "Are you like Sheldon or Leonard?"

[–]Brash_Attack 1 point2 points ago

Im probably considered a nerdier guy and this has never happened to me. I have had people point at my Flash shirt and tell "Bazinga!" I die a little inside... and outside...

[–]DFractalH 1 point2 points ago

Meh, I get called that. I think it's funny, because it is true at times. Not the genius part, but the "Get enraged over minor details and cannot stop" part.

Edit: But I will know the math behind string theory. So fuck yeah.

[–]bluejams 1 point2 points ago

It's not about feeling better than everybody else, it's about feeling misrepresented and being incredibly offended by it. The Big Bang Theory is just like every other sitcom, most of which i don't care for but I can keep my mouth shut about. The difference is that TBBT tries to reside in a fictionalized version of modern Nerd culture which happens to be the world I live in. They miss on all counts, even as fiction, and I'm offended at what they do on the show to convey "Nerdom". I'm even more offended that it's so Popular; popularity means millions of people are buying hook line and sinker that the fictionalized word created in that show exists as an exaggeration of a Nerds life.

Also there is already a huge nerd comedy community so having a generic, pandering, bullshit show like TBBT be the most watched representation of the things that I am/love is incredibly angering and offensive to me. NERD RAGE.

[–]andrewsmith1986 3 points4 points ago

I love the show.

Much better than HIMYM

[–]InbredScorpion 9 points10 points ago

Personally, I wouldn't say it's better than HIMYM, but it's still a decent show.

[–]andrewsmith1986 3 points4 points ago

HIMYM jumped the shark in my opinion.

[–]suddenly_ponies 1 point2 points ago

I love it. I think it's brilliantly written and very accurate as far as the SAP's among my people (geeks) go.

So it's good. Even if Reddit Prime disagrees

[–]UiiN 3 points4 points ago

You know, it's not great but dam... it's not that bad. I watch it to have something on when i'm playing a game.

[–]PaddoK33N_ 4 points5 points ago

"It's not that bad when you pay no attention to it." - UiiN.

[–]UiiN 0 points1 point ago

haha. To be honest yeah, it's good for background noise... and by background noise i mean a continual laughter track for BF3.

[–]bloodflart -2 points-1 points ago

I've never seen it, just tired of old people telling me I would love it because the main character is apparently a dork or something. I enjoyed this image, but I know it has a laugh track and that would dissuade me away from watching it.

[–]JavaLSU 11 points12 points ago

For what it's worth, it's not fake laughter. A laugh track implies canned laughter. They show it to a live audience and record their laughter.

[–]DrDWayneLove 9 points10 points ago

With a big neon sign telling them when to laugh.

[–]bloodflart 0 points1 point ago

Interesting, but I don't think I care either way. It just takes me out of the element for some reason.

[–]ashishduh 4 points5 points ago

But if it doesn't have a laugh track then how can we berate it?

[–]Jebryath 3 points4 points ago

I would love it because the main character is apparently a dork or something.

I hate that because it's really common, even when the main character being a dork is done deliberately for laughs. People laugh at Sheldon, or Napoleon from Napoleon Dynamite, or other dork leads. If you empathize with them at all, the shows tend to be more painfully awkward than funny.

[–]dakowe 41 points42 points ago

[–]imfinallyhere 2 points3 points ago

I was hoping for the same thing.

[–]bamfsalad 1 point2 points ago

I was thinking Bradley Cooper.

[–]la_falaise 3 points4 points ago

I was thinking Sly Cooper.

[–]erishun 2 points3 points ago

I was thinking D.B. Cooper.

[–]KeyserSoze96 0 points1 point ago

My favorite childhood game

[–]rodger_the_fishwife 0 points1 point ago

Was sad when he ended up as a bit part in Armageddon

[–]MrCooper2012 1 point2 points ago

When I saw the title I got my hopes up, thinking one of my charming, witty comments had finally been noticed. Oh how wrong I was.

[–]BungaSlaney 10 points11 points ago

Guy on the bed looks like he's is dying.

[–]Biron5k 12 points13 points ago

He was probably miserable about his attractive neighbor.

[–]Dem0n5 2 points3 points ago

Yep, that was definitely the plot of season 1-3, and perhaps the later ones that I haven't watched.

[–]impshial 3 points4 points ago

He misses being on Rosanne.

[–]Needbouttreefiddy 1 point2 points ago

and Christmases at the Griswolds

[–]AlterBridgeFan 90 points91 points ago

I actually like this show.

[–]serfis 27 points28 points ago

I didn't at first. I hated it. I thought Sheldon was extremely unlikeable, even though he was supposed to be, to the point where I couldn't watch. The jokes seemed to be "hey, look, science-y words!"

I gave it a shot though, watched a couple episodes in a row. Sheldon grew on me, to the point where his lack of social awareness is almost tragic. The jokes still came off more or less the same way they did before, but there are some good lines in there as well. It's not the best thing on tv, but it's not bad.

[–]bill5125 23 points24 points ago

At least it's not another "reality" show.

[–]oh_lord 5 points6 points ago

Or another "<noun> Wars".

[–]bill5125 1 point2 points ago

"Hardcore Pawn" stopped being amusing after I heard the name. Name was good, premise was bad.

[–]oh_lord 1 point2 points ago

It frustrated me as I was so used to, "Pawn Stars" that I thought of the obvious attempt at replication was just annoying. Also, the show sucked.

[–]EntingFantastic 2 points3 points ago

That's not a good standard of television.

[–]ChaoticAgenda 4 points5 points ago

A man's got to start somewhere.

[–]syllabic 6 points7 points ago

Yeah I started watching that show too. It's great. The characters are really well written and they use geek humor quite effectively. The best of any show since futurama (early futurama, anyway).

The penny-sheldon relationship is the best thing on the show, by far.

Mad men/breaking bad/game of thrones is the trifecta of top quality fiction on TV right now. They are all really serious dramas though, they have lighthearted moments but heavy drama is their bread and butter. It's good to have a quality lighthearted comedy show to add to the mix. I like burn notice too for some breezy action-entertainment.

Sheldon wore a reddit shirt in one episode. How can reddit hate that? Neil Degrasse Tyson did a cameo where he apologized for demoting pluto from planet status. And Brent Spiner and Wil Wheaton have done cameos.

[–]AziHaka 4 points5 points ago

Sheldon wore a reddit shirt in one episode. How can reddit hate that?

Because it's pandering. And there are plenty of worthy candidates for "quality lighthearted comedy show" better than TBBT. Community, Parks and Recreation, Cougartown. Heck, even Modern Family is a better lighthearted comedy show. I have a hard time believing you watch much comedy tv if you think it's the best of any show since futurama.

[–]Cygnus_X1 1 point2 points ago

I was reading this and expected the word bazinga at any time. My experience was the same except I really did like the show a lot until the final half of the most recent season where they've been concentrating on girlfriend relationships and downplaying the science jokes.

[–]serfis 0 points1 point ago

I can see that. I haven't really watched them in order, nor do I know when new episodes air. I just watch occasionally when I find it while channel surfing. There aren't really any shows that I follow at the moment, though.

[–]Cygnus_X1 0 points1 point ago

Find them on the internet if you want. There is some merit to watching them in order because the characters evolve in subtle ways. This makes the third season particularly entertaining.

[–]serfis 0 points1 point ago

I plan to, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

[–]ashishduh 6 points7 points ago

I hated it based on principle before I even watched it. But after watching it, I find it really funny.

[–]blazemore 1 point2 points ago

[–]ByTheNineDivine 1 point2 points ago

So brave......... me too

[–]Everyoneheresamoron 18 points19 points ago

Hangin with Mr Cooper used to be awesome. Then he turned into a white boy with assburgers.

[–]PaddoK33N_ 3 points4 points ago

"Assburgers ha ha"

"It's a serious condition!"

"If it's so serious why don't they call it meningitis?"

[–]yeahdef 4 points5 points ago

came here expecting Hangin' w/ Mr Cooper. I don't know who this other person is.

[–]goombalover13 1 point2 points ago

I like hanging out with my friend who has aspergers. He is pretty much a walking encyclopedia. Most people don't even know that he has aspergers, because he doesn't use it as an excuse to get attention.

[–]hooplah 2 points3 points ago

I was never a huge fan of this show, but I saw their panel at Comic Con and it was the best out of all of the ones I watched. The cast is hilarious outside of the show, and the guy who plays Sheldon is adorable.

And they gave away a fucking trip to space!

[–]smartzie 0 points1 point ago

A lot of people harp on the laugh track and the gimmicky jokes, but I like it because of the dynamics between the characters. They work so well together! The Penny/Sheldon relationship is definitely my favorite...the episode were she falls in the shower and he's the only one around to help her is hysterical. They must have a lot of fun on set, and I think that shows.

[–]residentasian 21 points22 points ago

I just wanna say that I hate the show not because of the laugh tracks, not because I'm on reddit, but because it's just really lame jokes. It's like, "yeah I get it, ha-ha" kinda like that subreddit r/funny----waaiiit a minute.....

[–]toritxtornado 6 points7 points ago

I was expecting a quote from Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. I'm not gonna say I was disappointed, but, well, I wasn't appointed.

[–]YeastLord 2 points3 points ago

Hating TBBT has become blasé. Everyone is free to express their opinions, some people like the show and others do not. Many Redditors feel that the show's 'nerd humor' is inaccurate and I'd have to agree, but the show is not pandering towards 'nerd culture'. Its trying to deliver this culture to the everyday viewer and I think it does an okay job of it. Reddit becomes very boring when the hive mind sequesters any differing opinion.

[–]Remnants 15 points16 points ago

I love how half the comments are about the laugh track. Get the fuck over it.

[–]heathengray -2 points-1 points ago

It's a pretty big part of the show.

EDIT: I know BBT doesn't use a laugh track, but a live studio audience.

The fact that this live studio audience sounds so over the top like the worst laugh track is incredible, and still off putting.

[–]ninjames 1 point2 points ago

Am I the only who thinks BBT is actually REALLY funny? With the exception of this sucking, the only reason most critics hate it is because it has no "heart" in it. Compared to Modern Family, New Girl etc.

[–]Canuckman12 0 points1 point ago

BAZINGA!!

[–]FordSVT1 14 points15 points ago

"But it has a laugh track!"

Yes, and so does nearly every comedy made since 1950. Get the fuck over it.

There is a whole other thread going on right now about Tyler Perry comedies, and everyone is fuming that 15 year old reruns of Seinfeld get lower ratings. You know, Seinfeld, the show with the fucking laugh track? People are even defending King of Queens in that thread. And when was the last time someone shit on Frasier for having a laugh track? When was the last time you went to a live performance and told everyone around you to shut the fuck up and stop telling you when you're supposed to laugh?

If you don't like ANY sitcoms because they have laugh tracks, it's OK. If you don't like BBT because you don't like the writing or the characters, that's fine too! But to single out BBT because it has a laugh track (and don't kid yourself, it comes up a lot in these discussions) seems absolutely ridiculous.

I think a lot of Redditors hate it so much because they don't like the idea of "non-geeks" telling "real geeks" what being a geek is like. It's not "accurate" enough. They get insulted because they think they're being pandered to, even though they spend all day upvoting content on Reddit that panders to them. All in all, it feels a bit like the Nickleback hate bandwagon, completely out of proportion to reality.

[–]wei-long 3 points4 points ago

Non-laugh track sitcoms to enjoy:

The Adventures of Pete and Pete

Arrested Development

Bored to Death

Community

Cougar Town

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Everybody Hates Chris

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Linc's

The Middle

My Name Is Earl

The Office

Parks and Recreation

Scrubs

30 Rock

[–]FordSVT1 1 point2 points ago

I like a lot of those shows, and it has little to do with whether or not they have a laugh track. I like them because they are funny.

[–]Jewzilian 6 points7 points ago

The real reason they don't like it is because people tell them they remind them of Sheldon.

[–]JazzyNips 11 points12 points ago

Audience throws fits of laughter...

Sheldon: "Bazinga!"

Audience erupts into applause and laughter.

Several audience members start to bleed from eyes and ears as the swell of laughter continues.

The set begins to shake, the actors begin to look scared, laughter increases to a tremendous volume.

The whole set begins to collapse, the floor opens up, sending audience members into a pit as the fire begins to rise.

The entire cast, crew and audience descends to hell, laughing all the way.

Why Big Bang theory, WHY????

[–]x755x 2 points3 points ago

I watch BBT all the time, and I've heard him say "Bazinga" maybe 5 times. How did it become his catchphrase?

[–]GalacticNexus 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure he even started saying it until maybe halfway through the second series, did he? When he started to attempt to tell jokes/use sarcasm.

I think the ball-pit scene heavily contributed to it becoming a catchphrase.

[–]jai07 1 point2 points ago

Most likely commercials

[–]JazzyNips 0 points1 point ago

Yea, I've only really seen the show once. I just thought Bazinga was one of those catch phrases. I probably got that from the commercials.

[–]stone500 2 points3 points ago

Oh c'mon, I loved the ball pit scene

[–]Kramol 4 points5 points ago

He said 'Bazinga!'...

[–]chefmcduck 2 points3 points ago

Que the "I've seen 2 episodes. I know everything about this show and hate it" crowd.

[–]iGoByManyNames 1 point2 points ago

LAUGH TRACK

[–]not_the_droids 105 points106 points ago

Mr Bean had laugh tracks too, get over it

[–]drewuke 50 points51 points ago

Yup, Reddit just looks for reasons to hate the Big Bang Theory, oh well.

[–]GingerSnap01010 12 points13 points ago

Why don't you like the Big Bang Theory?

"It makes smart people look pretentious and dickish. I would never watch that crap. Their jokes could be understood by a high school student."

Really, that what makes them look like pretentious?

Edit: rudimentary grammar.

[–]hellobober 6 points7 points ago

Its not that hard to find reasons to hate the show. I dont think the laugh track is what makes it bad as the majority of comedys have them anyways. Its just simply not a funny show.

[–]blob-dob-11 0 points1 point ago

Funny is subjective. I find it funny sometimes, you don't.

[–]TimesWasting 0 points1 point ago

I don't think I've ever laughed while watching it, but I think its really entertaining and I like the characters

[–]Immynimmy 21 points22 points ago

Exactly. And it's not even a freaking laugh track. Meanwhile the IT crowd does use a laugh track. Who cares though, I enjoy both shows. Redditors are so fickle.

[–]elloelloello 2 points3 points ago

there's a difference between a live audience and a laugh track isn't there?

[–]Immynimmy 11 points12 points ago

Yes.

Live audience: Big Bang theory, Everybody Loves Raymond, Fresh Prince, King of Queens, Seinfeld, etc.

Laugh Track: IT crowd, How I met your mother, Friends, Frasier...Scooby Doo, etc.

[–]mottom24 3 points4 points ago

aren't the live audiences actually actors paid to laugh a certain way?

there is a radio lab episode on laughing that talks about it. Started with "the Nanny". It's actually really interesting.

Edit So it seems they don't pay actors. Good on them! Regardless, folks should check out that radio lab episode. It's super cool and somewhat science related. Also laughing rats.

[–]StraY_WolF 0 points1 point ago

Ah, I remember that show. I kinda like that show.

[–]erishun 1 point2 points ago

No. It's a regular audience. People get free tickets and are allowed to attend the taping. Before the taping, the producers come in and really nail down the fact that "The audience is the lifeblood of the show! We need your applause, your laughter! Who's excited?!" Yay! "Come on, I can't hear you! I can't hear smiles! We need to hear you!! Who's EXCITED?!" Yayyy!!

Then they have a stand up comedian come in to warm up the crowd. Then the taping begins. So yes, it's real crowd reactions, but they've been hammed up and sound mixed to be ideal. I STILL think it's more genuine than using laughter.wav and I think performing in front of a live studio audience changes the comedic dynamic and improves the actor's comedic timing.

I personally think that HIMYM's laughter.wav is annoying and very artificial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YguljAFU3Bc I'd rather have real laughter over canned laughter any day. But I'd rather have a comedy that's witty and dry enough to not need a laugh track whatsoever, like Arrested Development and Community. But that's just my personal opinion.

[–]GalacticNexus 1 point2 points ago

No, there have been a few responses in threads like this from people before from people who have been to TBBT recordings and from what I remember they said that everyone just generally laughs a lot. Which is what happens when you have a group of people together watching comedy, they laugh more than individuals.

[–]Funmachine 0 points1 point ago

All those live audience shows use laugh tracks too, the audience isn't mic'd up so it would never sound like that.

[–]raitalin 1 point2 points ago

The audience is hardly "live" for any of those shows, but all of them other than Scooby Doo were filmed in front of an audience.

These audiences are coached, recorded, and edited. The editing including things like removing coughs and sneezes along with moving laughs around to punch up jokes or cut it short when it goes over the dialogue. This can even include using reactions from other recordings.

For some people it feels artificial, and it's no longer necessary in comedy television.

[–]thieflikeme 5 points6 points ago

So did Seinfeld. SEINFELD. I just don't understand where all the hate is coming from.

[–]XtremelyNiceRedditor -2 points-1 points ago

Mr Bean was also funny.

[–]EntingFantastic 2 points3 points ago

Sheldon also has his moments. Look at the thread we're in.

[–]bloodflart 12 points13 points ago

have you seen it without the laugh track? it's hilarious and kind of sad.

[–]Hoobleton 6 points7 points ago

That's because the pacing is totally thrown off.

SOMETHING MILDLY QUIPPY

[–]stone500 0 points1 point ago

Other shows that have a laugh track

Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Married with Children, Seinfeld, That 70's Show, Happy Days, The Andy Griffith Show, Family Matters, Full House, etc etc etc.

Laugh tracks have been around for a long long time. I don't really see anything about this show that sets it apart from any other laugh-track filled show.

[–]wei-long 0 points1 point ago

Nearly all of those actually filmed in front of an audience (so does BBT).

[–]iGoByManyNames 0 points1 point ago

The laugh track in TBBT is obnoxiously loud and at the end of every sentence. It not only detracts from the way a show like Friends/HIMYM should be made, but from the actual structure of the show.

[–]BobDucca 4 points5 points ago

Was hoping this was a "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper" post. Leaving disappointed.

[–]spamato 0 points1 point ago

If I knew a guy like Cooper I'd sock him in the mouth no less than 6 times a day.

[–]10splitmind 6 points7 points ago

I dunno', man. Pretty sure he has Asperger's Syndrome. I share your horrible frustration with his character though.

[–]GalacticNexus 1 point2 points ago

I don't know about Asperger's syndrome, but he has many signs of OCD.

There was an episode recently where he couldn't get a hair cut on the day he usually does and gets frustrated (not sure if that's right word, but its the one I'm going for) when "nothing terrible happens" as a result of it.

[–]Biron5k 1 point2 points ago

It's not a laugh track, there's an actual audience. Tyler Perry shows are worse. CBS comedies are far better than most comedies these days.

[–]Kman1121 2 points3 points ago

DAE else hate the Big Bang Theory? Karma to the left.

[–]Thergal -1 points0 points ago

I made tea. Checkmate Atheists.

[–]yoshi_ghost 1 point2 points ago

I was really hoping for this.

Came here expecting this guy. Now i am slightly disappointed and i feel a bit old

[–]siepet 0 points1 point ago

It was "lousy" not "horrible" conversation starter.

[–]kit10mit10s 0 points1 point ago

I read the title and was hoping for a screen shot of "Hanging with Mr. Cooper"

[–]Twig 0 points1 point ago

DON'T YOU KNOW THAT REDDIT HATES THIS SHOW?

You're risking karma suicide here!

[–]Seasickdwarf 0 points1 point ago

Phew. I just got done tagging everybody in this thread who appears to like big bang. Now we release them into the wild and watch...

[–]BlizzyBluu 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure this is a repost

[–]bobslidell 0 points1 point ago

i would rather sit through a Kenny G concert than watch a single episode of this show ever again. Painfully bad

[–]chafic 0 points1 point ago

This is a prime example of how un-funny this show is.

[–]clamdever 0 points1 point ago

[–]wothcloth 0 points1 point ago

You forgot the panel where the canned laugh-track chimes in to indicate to us that there has been a joke.

[–]ddam 0 points1 point ago

I can just hear the stupid laugh track at the end of this... ugh.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

correction dr. cooper he has a ph.D, i wish howard had a ph.D but it would ruin the storyline

[–]maxpower1928 0 points1 point ago

i hate everything about this show

[–]irondieselvingiant 0 points1 point ago

This show sucks

[–]Saxaphoner 0 points1 point ago

DR.cooper

[–]Punkwasher 0 points1 point ago

  1. Character enters room

  2. Character greets

  3. Laugh track

Find the joke!

Seriously, if your show needs a laugh track, then your jokes aren't funny. Funny jokes create their own laugh tracks.

[–]Insensitively_Blunt 0 points1 point ago

Still completely unfunny even in comic form. Got it.

[–]thepineapplearmy -1 points0 points ago

good reminder that this show is not funny

[–]spoenza -2 points-1 points ago

Dat repost

[–]smokyexe -4 points-3 points ago

[–]Stiga -2 points-1 points ago

Wow this show is bad.

[–]Shagoosty 2 points3 points ago

Wrong subreddit. Should have been posted in /r/StupidShitThatMoronsThinkIsFunny

[–]Seasickdwarf 0 points1 point ago

You have failed us all for not making that a real thing.

[–]Shagoosty 2 points3 points ago

Reddit won't allow that to be a subreddit, so instead I present /r/SSTMTIF

[–]Seasickdwarf 2 points3 points ago

Good work sir. You have made up for your failure, I will call off the attack ferrets.

[–]and_yet_and_yet -4 points-3 points ago

This is literally the worst.

[–]Foley1 0 points1 point ago

Fuck this show.
