This reminds me of an incident I had with my next door neighbor who was more than a little out of his mind.

I was home alone and sleeping in during Summer vacation when I was awakened by a pounding on the front door. After trying to ignore it for a bit, I give in and went to answer the door. On the front porch, I found my next door neighbor with a far away look, he asked if I was playing "satanic music". Being still half asleep, I didn't pay much attention to him and just answered, "No, I was asleep." He nodded and walked down the steps without saying another word to me.

After I woke up a bit, I looked outside and saw him talking with the utility pole across the street. He was quite animated in his discussion, waving his arms and pacing back and forth as he talked. This was before small wireless devices were widely available, so he wasn't on a phone. After watching him for about five minutes, he stopped to hug and kiss the utility pole before wandering down the street.

TR;DR I lived on Kyoshi Island in the mid 90s and didn't even know about it.
