I only upvoted this repost because I swear to god if number 7 isn't me, then I've got a double out there in the baseball-non-enthusiasts world.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

Forced to play the game by a mentally abusive father.

[–]TheDruth 1 point2 points ago

Hah, yeah same here. When I was "put into" the elementary school baseball team the coach would put a stick down by my feet and told me not to leave the stick unless a ball came my way because I was so prone to just start wandering around the field if things got boring... in little league baseball....

[–]2COOL4U69 1 point2 points ago

I got moved to the outfield because I put more focus into making little piles of dirt at my feet than the game.

Luckily it was little league and nobody hit anything past 2nd base. Also there were anthills to keep me occupied.

[–]2COOL4U69 -5 points-4 points ago

Baseball is hot and boring when you're 7 years old.

Number 12 needs to chill the fuck out. I bet his dad is an asshole.

[–]AnomalyX-_- 8 points9 points ago

Nice try, number seven.

[–]2COOL4U69 1 point2 points ago

Don't ever have kids.

[–]snoharm 10 points11 points ago

Or he's excited to play the game and compete, and frustrated by a friend who shows up to little league games but doesn't play.

[–]2COOL4U69 2 points3 points ago

I just feel bad for Number 7. You know some Bat Dad gave him shit for that error. He obviously doesn't give a shit about baseball, and clearly has no business playing it.

I've been there.

[–]Hoodooz39 -1 points0 points ago

I bet not. Some families start teaching fundamentals by playing out in the yard at a young age and even by t-ball, those kids have a good grasp on the game. Most t-ballers have never even worn a glove by the time they sign up, so you have one or two kids who take the game seriously on a field with a bunch of other kids that have no idea how to play.

It doesn't mean the dad is an asshole, it just means these kids love the game, are good at it, and will advance nicely through LL into HS and even college ball. These are also the kids that become major leaguers.

Our son was like that. We played ball in the yard...not because we were forcing him to be a ball player, but because my husband and I both love the game so it was only natural that we taught it to him from an early age. He was the kid that could field grounders, shag pop flies and hit a ball from the pitch instead of from the tee.

Yes, he sometimes got frustrated when his teammates were playing in the dirt or staring off into space instead of playing the game, but overall he always had a good attitude and good sportsmanship about it.

TL;DR: Just because a kid is good at a sport does not make his dad an asshole.

[–]2COOL4U69 1 point2 points ago

Perfect use of TL;DR

[–]SuperWolf 0 points1 point ago

I wasn't going to upvote it at first, but I didn't catch the slide, so upvote for you and the post.

I never saw this I'm glad he reposted it.

"End the repost rage"

[–]dusthimself 19 points20 points ago

I scorekeep for youth league baseball and softball, this kind of stuff happens a lot. Watching six year olds play baseball is the most entertaining thing I've ever gotten paid for... Unfortunately.

[–]BlankJebus 5 points6 points ago

Errors everywhere!

[–]dusthimself 10 points11 points ago

Bottom of the "ninth" (last inning due to time), bases loaded, down by one, and Little Timmy has a chance to knock in the tying run. Smacks a ball between a pitcher not paying attention, and a jumping first baseman. But it's ok, because the runner at first jogged over to the ball, picked it up, and handed it to the coach. GAME OVER, SON, GAME OVER.

[–]Salva_Veritate 0 points1 point ago

.......?!

[–]the_timmer_42 0 points1 point ago

One of the thins I remember from playing was I was the runner on 2nd base. The ball had escaped the pitcher and was sat like 3 feet in front of me. I walked off the base, grabbed the ball and threw it back.

Later I learned not to be so helpful.

[–]Impstrong 1 point2 points ago

I remember the coach telling me to "put my head down and run" if contact was made with the ball. So, being the awesome player I was, I did just that. So I'm standing at 2nd before I know it and found out I was out. And that's how I learned not to run on a pop fly.

Too big for imgur, that's why it's here. Imgur has a limit of 2MB for gifs... for a good fucking reason because nobody wants to sit and wait 30 seconds for a shitty .gif.

[–]ID10T_er 13 points14 points ago

thats the kid who should have been in the outfield picking grass lol

[–]IAmA_Zombie 5 points6 points ago

I was that kid when I was in little league and I am not ashamed. I was seven so all I really cared about was getting snow cones after the game.

[–]BenOfTomorrow 2 points3 points ago

We know, Brian.

[–]matlockdown 0 points1 point ago

I can't decide whether he was trying to pass that off as his own experience or trying to make a subtle reference to Regan.

[–]ID10T_er 1 point2 points ago

no as was i, except for when i was in the infield because we were one of the few leagues that didnt do free snow cones so applause was our only reward, ergo we tried harder :/

[–]2COOL4U69 0 points1 point ago

Congratulations?

[–]PlNG 1 point2 points ago

I was the kid that was always in the outfield, picking grass. I loved the game. The lack of action, the games between hits that actually got to the outfield were another matter. I got exactly two balls hit to me across three years of LL baseball. I was only aware of (the first) one, and I fielded that one perfectly. I was also probably one of the best hitters in the game, getting home runs and deep outfield hits. I was also dead last in the roster meaning that I got the fewest opportunities to hit across the year.

I said on the 4th year "Mom, I don't want to play if I'm in the outfield and last in the roster again". We signed up on the 4th year, but didn't go to a game. I can guess why.

Somehow, now, I suspect that my hearing impairment which shouldn't have had anything to do with the issue played a part.

[–]LightningMaiden 1 point2 points ago

Playing soccer as a kid, i used to pick dandelions. Now i am on reddit

[–]yurfrenden 4 points5 points ago

Yeah dude, what the fuck!?!? I'm trying to have a peaceful day dream and you're chucking balls at me!

[–]dudeabides86 1 point2 points ago

I just wanna know, when did we start putting helmets on kids who are in the field?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]dudeabides86 0 points1 point ago

I was born in 86 and grew up playing baseball. Only time I wore a helmet was in the batters box or behind the plate. I'm just saying I think a lot of parents might be a little paranoid these days. Making there kids soft and what not.

[–]kareemabduljabbq 4 points5 points ago

as a kid, my mom used to yell at me in the outfield "stop thinking about dinosaurs!" much better than "stop picking your nose!".

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]kareemabduljabbq 0 points1 point ago

i really was thinking about dinosaurs. once, I was busy looking at a butterfly.

[–]finallycreatedaname 4 points5 points ago

Why is he wearing a helmet?

[–]berychance 4 points5 points ago

It's common in a lot of younger leagues to have the pitcher wear a helmet and/or face protection because they're so close to the batter.

[–]finallycreatedaname 0 points1 point ago

At that age, he was not the pitcher but probably the pitchers helper in either coach pitch or the "pitcher" in t-ball.

[–]IAmA_Zombie -2 points-1 points ago

My whole life I have watched baseball all I wanted to see is a pitcher get smashed in the face with a line drive.

[–]berychance 3 points4 points ago

I'm probably going to hell for this...

Wade Korpi takes one in the face.

[–]IAmA_Zombie 0 points1 point ago

I love you.

[–]ChefBoyarDEZZNUTZZ 0 points1 point ago

Jesus, that hit him right in the temple; he's very lucky if he lived through that.

[–]LastImmortalMan 1 point2 points ago

Parents.

Probably.

[–]the_one_true_b 3 points4 points ago

i bet he still gets a participation trophy at the end of the season.

[–]smoothsensation 1 point2 points ago

That is kinda the point of a "participation" trophy.

[–]snoharm 0 points1 point ago

It would be, if he was participating.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I had to think back a little bit and make sure someone wasn't videotaping me all those years in little league. I was THAT kid.

[–]jacksparrow1 2 points3 points ago

The kid too spaced out to catch the ball, that was me.

[–]Gamuza 0 points1 point ago

Gay!!!!!!!

[–]kungfuman104 5 points6 points ago

I like how #12 complained about that kid not paying attention when he's wearing a helmet in the field. The other kid was probably focusing on not laughing at #12 for wearing a helmet

[–]Crew_Socks 29 points30 points ago

Odds are high they require the pitcher to wear a helmet for safety reasons. He is probably the best athlete on the field, hence putting him at pitcher, where the majority of the balls will get hit at that level.

[–]YNinja58 2 points3 points ago

You are correct. My nephew plays in a league that uses pitching machines but has a fielder at the pitcher position. That position requires a helmet.

[–]imicit 1 point2 points ago

What? Is this really a thing now? It's not like some little kid is going to hit a line drive at the mound.

This is probably coach pitch, if not tee ball. The kid can't even really throw the ball.

[–]YNinja58 12 points13 points ago

Yes it is a thing now. If you havent noticed, 6-10 year-olds dont really have very good reflexes.

[–]RedAero 1 point2 points ago

...nor can they hit very hard

[–]YNinja58 5 points6 points ago

Generally no. But all you need is a fastball hit just right (aluminum bats, mind you) and you've got a kid with concussion. I know the helmet doesn't look cool, but at that age safety is much more important.

[–]nitefang 5 points6 points ago

It doesn't seem awful to me. I'm all for kids doing things that are a bit risky but wearing a helmet while standing in front of someone hitting very hard balls at very fast speeds seems an OK "evil" to put up with in sports.

[–]ISTHISGOOD 0 points1 point ago

Safety first, you know. Those are still real balls after all.

[–]sudosandwich3 0 points1 point ago

It's not like some little kid is going to hit a line drive at the mound.

That happened when I was around that kid's age. Someone on my team hit the pitcher in the face. He ended up being out the rest of the game and had to go to the hospital.

[–]imicit 0 points1 point ago

Would a helmet have done any good?

[–]sudosandwich3 0 points1 point ago

The helmet with the face grill would of stopped it. I'm just saying it happens and little league plays closer to the plate.

[–]huck_cussler -2 points-1 points ago

Odds are high they require the pitcher to wear a helmet for safety reasons. He is probably the best athlete on the field, hence putting him at pitcher, where the majority of the balls will get hit at that level. they can't risk him getting hurt. Hell with the other kids.

[–]CtrlC_plus_CtrlV 13 points14 points ago

baseball is so boring, the people playing can barely pay attention :\

My parents signed me up for baseball without telling me and without my request. I didn't like the pants so i figured the whole game was awful. Anyways, the game i had no interest in playing turned out to be one of my greatest passions for the last 17 years. Kids need help sometimes finding their likes and dislikes. No need for bashing parents who are most likely just trying to find a fun, social atmosphere for their kid.

[–]garrett_fritz 0 points1 point ago

Pitcher's like, "Fuck this fuckin shit!"

[–]CodeMonkey13 0 points1 point ago

Anyone else wondering where first base is?

[–]jwhicks727 0 points1 point ago

This exact thing happened to me, only the ball hit me in the head. My one and only time at first base.

[–]Kuta837 0 points1 point ago

this pretty much sums up my little league experiences

[–]silent_p 1 point2 points ago

Is number 7 me? I don't remember this, but it seems about right.

[–]Lilred10195 0 points1 point ago

1 upvote to you just because of the awesome slide into first base.

[–]marleyinoc 0 points1 point ago

Possible defense: At that age, kids aren't supposed to leave base early. Not sure if that's what happened but it looks likes 1st baseman saw him go then looked toward home where I imagine a coach or umpire would be.

That or he should do an AMA on r/hownottogiveaflip

[–]the32ndpie 0 points1 point ago

Hah, I've been in the same situation as the absent-minded kid.

[–]Foxdude28 0 points1 point ago

I love the kids sudden look at the pitcher.

"Huh, what? OH"

[–]jmster109 1 point2 points ago

I'm upvoting this because I don't blame that kid. When I played baseball I would always be one of the kids that got stuck in the outfield and end up being super bored the whole entire game.

[–]childshMan-He-Bro 1 point2 points ago

Why is the pitcher wearing a helmet?

[–]rockslide 1 point2 points ago

I'm having some little league flashbacks. One ball nearly hit me on the head as I was daydreaming in the outfield. I had to go chase it down like this poor kid.

[–]ehode 1 point2 points ago

That is all that you dream of in little league. Sliding into first base.

[–]tekkio 1 point2 points ago

The baseman reminds me of Bobby Hill

[–]balancedhighs 1 point2 points ago

Eurgh. Just provide the direct URL! I hate having to load up another websites crap.

[–]deadly_lampshade 1 point2 points ago

Are these dwarves or children? I literally cannot tell the difference.

[–]Mozza215 1 point2 points ago

If you watch this in reverse it's about a frustrated kid who has lost his ball only to have it magically return to him.

[–]FalafelWaffel 1 point2 points ago

At about this age I joined a youth baseball team. Everyone just assumed that I knew the rules, which I didn't. The very first day they put me on 3rd base. This girl was coming in from second, and just as she was rounding for home someone threw me the ball and I caught it. I assumed the next logical step would be to whip the ball at her spine to tag her out. I caught her right between the shoulder blades. She was fine, but from that day forward I was banished to the outfield.

[–]ATpup 0 points1 point ago

THIS! is like an amazing analogy for online gaming. one dud is trying to play the game right, the other is just off doing his own thing. keeping in mind they are both little kids ( age on gamine isn't the issue) so in the realm of things it really doesn't matter, because it is just a game.

[–]Modus_Pwninz 0 points1 point ago

I absolutely did this in elementary school T-ball.

As an adult, I still don't give a shit about organized sports.

[–]bedpan3 0 points1 point ago

that kid letting the ball go right by is like a video moment from me in my PE class in 1983, or basically any PE class where someone tried to make me interact in the game

[–]gidonfire -3 points-2 points ago

Reminds me of my college lacrosse career. I'd run the ball around the field for a bit, get the shit knocked out of me by 6' 240lb defensemen, and the asshat on crease would drop my perfect pass. The one that hit the pocket of his stick. Except I'd just shrug at the dude and we'd laugh about it later.

[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point ago

wtf is with the downvotes? I'm never surprised at the hive mind.

Look, I loved my college career. I once got honorable mention for player of the week for scoring 5 goals in a game. We lost that game 5 to 7. I remember the bus ride being fun as hell on the way home.

[–]imicit -4 points-3 points ago

Except I'd just shrug at the dude and we'd laugh about it later.

While raping strippers.

[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point ago

Oh brother. That's what you think of when you hear lacrosse?

[–]imicit 2 points3 points ago

As a former lacrosse player: yes.

[–]gidonfire 0 points1 point ago

You're never a former lacrosse player :)

[–]swagdaddyb -2 points-1 points ago

  1. That was a shitty throw
  2. He's wearing a helmet in the field ಠ_ಠ

[–]ISTHISGOOD 2 points3 points ago

It was actually on target on the first baseman's glove side. Could work on arm a little, but hey he's a kid. Hence the helmet for safety.

[–]the2belo -5 points-4 points ago

Despite the outcome of this game, the bones of each of those kids are going to be crumbling to powder in their graves for five thousand millennia before this GIF is finished loading.

[–]Reggaejunkiejew31 4 points5 points ago

It loaded immediately for me...

[–]ISTHISGOOD -1 points0 points ago
