I understand the in-universe explanations for it.

but the writers didn't have to do it that way, and I feel that they mis-stepped when they did.

If they wanted a story about our intrepid band of heroes being chased around the caverns by monsters that taunt them and kill them, for whatever reason, they should have written that villain instead. I would have been all for some new guys.

but if the only way to squeeze the weeping angels in there is to either redefine them or write in a reason they can't do some of their really cool stuff, you're doing it wrong.

literally the only thing the angels from that episode had in common with the angels from Blink was the 'look at them' thing. And even that, they had to get rid of when it was convenient. (remember the "walk as if you can see them and they'll stand still as if you're looking at them"? or one of the any number of dozen times the angels are all grouped together, yet somehow the ones at the back don't see and lock the ones in the front? Really, the doctor in Blink even feels sorry for them, calling them the lonliest creatures in the universe. and yet here they are, all 100,000 of them in one place)

I feel like the writers had a story they wanted to tell, and a villain they really wanted to play with, but could never quite make it mesh. They should have given us someone new those eps and done a real angels story some other time.

One thing i'll give them credit for: I liked the reveal where the doctor figures out that the statues aren't statues but angels. that bit was well done.
