This picture is from the movie 'Going the Distance' not Always Sunny. Not tying to be negative, I just find it bothersome.

[–]TheLittlePhilosopher 5 points6 points ago

If only he knew that what jobbies is slang for in england.

[–]glevally 4 points5 points ago

Hey, so with this post you are no longer karmaless. Does that make you a middle class redditor?

[–]Epolo2012 3 points4 points ago

It's about time you realized how the job cannon works.

[–]BranchedOut 3 points4 points ago

All the resumes at once.

[–]Damnit_Nappa 11 points12 points ago

I have never had problems finding a job, it all depends on a whole lot of factors.

Are you willing to work for a low paying and bad hourly job? Or it could also depend where you live, there are areas where it is incredibly difficult to find a job

[–]Piogre 5 points6 points ago

I live in a town where 90% of teenagers are lazy and spoiled (and employers know that), and a lot of daddies lost their jobs recently. Took me forever to find employment.

[–]caphits 7 points8 points ago

Getting a job is NOT hard. Getting a well paying job is hard. Getting a job you don't hate is also hard.

[–]Yoshi_Girl -2 points-1 points ago

It really isn't if you put effort into it. Understandably it depends on where you live, your availability, your experience, etc. When I moved to the Chicago I filled out tons of job applications my first week there and within my first month I got at 6 least call-backs and 2 jobs. Then again I had open availability and my job experience was working at Target for 2 years before I left for Chicago.

[–]Milkgunner 5 points6 points ago

My friends who says this (or similar stuff) don't even try, they say "it's impossible to get a job!" and when I ask them what jobs they've applied to they answer "that one two weeks ago" and I just sigh. Applying to one job every two weeks is NOT searching for a job.

Then I've got friends who say "I haven't got anything on my resumé!" and when I tell them to go work for a fast food chain for a while they say "no way". Without experience, you will only get shitty jobs, but then you can get better and better jobs.

[–]Den0702 2 points3 points ago

How come every comment by OP is downvoted? He's not being a dick, his grammar is fine... I'm confused.

[–]Miora 1 point2 points ago

Reddit is just mean sometimes. :/

[–]cultured_banana_slug 10 points11 points ago

I love talking to old people. They're so optimistic. Oh, just hop down to the library and get a job! Hop on down to a store or whatnot and put in an application. Just talk to the manager! Hey, even though the application says five times in bold print, "DO NOT CALL ABOUT THIS JOB", you should call anyway to show initiative!

So freaking cute.

[–]sireatalot 1 point2 points ago

It was probably actually that way a few decades ago.

[–]Miora 0 points1 point ago

My mom is the same way ans I am slowly starting to resent her.

[–]icamefrom4chan -1 points0 points ago

While she pays your bills and feeds you right? Right?

[–]icamefrom4chan -1 points0 points ago

While she pays your bills and feeds you right? Right?

[–]Miora -1 points0 points ago

No not right. Because I don't live my mother and she doesn't pay a single one of my bills. Please don't assume that everyone situations are the same.

EDIT: I guess some people don't like it when the truth comes out...

[–]DMatty -1 points0 points ago

Maybe you could network with the manager about a job BEFORE getting an application?

[–]WyndMetal 5 points6 points ago

"Hi could I speak with the manager?"

"About what?"

"... A Job application.."

"They're done at our website."

"...But the manager I wanted him to notice me... Okay... thank you..."

The other situation is where you're informed that this manager you are talking to isn't the hiring manager. Everything is still okay, he'll still 'remember' your name.

[–]icamefrom4chan -3 points-2 points ago

You would find a jib pretty fast if mommy stopped paying your bills and doing your laundry. Of that I'm certain.

[–]mangonel 2 points3 points ago

Finding one is only half of it. Jibs are expensive, maybe not as much as mainsails; but if you're going to pay for one, you'd better get a job.

[–]icamefrom4chan 0 points1 point ago

Ah I'd sail but I get violently I'll on the open sea.

[–]cultured_banana_slug 0 points1 point ago

My mother is dead, you ass.

[–]icamefrom4chan 0 points1 point ago

My father is dead...and?

[–]cultured_banana_slug 0 points1 point ago

My mother doesn't pay my bills and I do my own laundry. Don't make assumptions.

Then again, with your name, I don't know if you're being an ass on purpose or by accident.

[–]Edews 4 points5 points ago

I've found that my friends who are unemployed and complain about not being able to get a job set their expectations too high (what? apply at a fast food joint? no way!) and doesn't really put any effort into actually getting one.

[–]Yoshi_Girl 0 points1 point ago

That's just an excuse. Unless they have a certificate or a degree it's hard to find a job other than fast food, retail, etc.

[–]WyndMetal 1 point2 points ago

Well you end up questioning why you even went to college, you can flip burgers without a degree. This was on the front page recently: "Angry because the older generation is constantly telling you that you've got to go to college if you want to make something of your life, so that you wont work at McDonald's. Then they call you an asshole for thinking you're too good for the job at McDonald's once your out of college. How do you win?"

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

No, you go down to the copy store, put on your printing helmet, climb into your job hunting suit, launch into the resume tree and contact businesses in your area who are offering jobbies.

[–]Final_Fanatic_VII 1 point2 points ago

Where I'm from, Jobbies is another word for "shit." Normally used by children because of their nativity.

[–]tarraaa 5 points6 points ago

Stupid. If someone really needed a job they would suck it up and work fast food. It's not an issue of there being no jobs people are just too picky and too good at making excuses

[–]Joywalking 3 points4 points ago

...and when fast food/the grocery store/other retail doesn't interview you, because there are plenty of people applying that have some relevant experience and they feel like you won't stick around because you have a degree? How does that fit into your schema?

[–]ThatOtherGirl -1 points0 points ago

Really? How many fast food applications have you put in? Grocery and other retail are slightly harder to get into sometimes.

[–]Joywalking 1 point2 points ago

I am now employed. But I looked for work for 13 months before I found this job. Now, I agree that I'm not an ideal employee -- I've got graduate degrees, because I wasn't aiming to make myself an ideal fast food employee. Most of my applications were for jobs that actually seemed to want my MBA, frankly, but there was a regular baseline of applying to Target, McDonald's, Culver's Butterburgers, Jewel-Osco, etc. I never got a single call back on any of those applications. Not one.

I did have occasional employment along the way, working for a local professional. I'd go by his house once a week and empty/fill his dishwasher, clean his house, do his laundry, and organize his paperwork. Was this a job that would have actually paid my rent? No, but it took a little bit of the edge off the hole I was digging in my savings. I'm not too proud to work, but it has not been my experience that there are simply jobs out there that people are too proud to take.

[–]GloriousBasterd 1 point2 points ago

I have applied to a lot of minimum wage places with crap for results. Having a technical background can screw you big time.

[–]crimzonphox 5 points6 points ago

awesome as a recent grad and two months unemployed I enjoy this

[–]testreker 8 points9 points ago

Every time i see this post...

Why dont i just strap on my repost helmet and squeeze down into a repost cannon and fire off into repost land where reposts grow on reposties!

[–]Shut_Up_About_Repost 5 points6 points ago

Every time I see someone complaining about reposts:

Why dont i just strap on my repost complaint helmet and squeeze down into a repost complaint cannon and fire off into repost complaint land where repost complaints grow on repost-complainties!

[–]testreker 0 points1 point ago

that doesnt flow at all. Also, if you made an account based on telling people to stop complaining, the irony is just....well lets say its funnier than this post

[–]Shut_Up_About_Repost 0 points1 point ago

tis but a necessary evil my good sir...

[–]testreker 0 points1 point ago

So is complaining about reposts.

[–]Yoshi_Girl -2 points-1 points ago

I've never seen this before. If it's a repost to you, downvote and move on. Don't ruin it for the rest of us.

[–]testreker 0 points1 point ago

if a comment ruins a post for you, you didnt like it that much in the first place.

[–]Piogre 1 point2 points ago

Telling unemployed people to get a job in this economy is like telling a starving people in Africa to get some food...

[–]icamefrom4chan -1 points0 points ago

Fast food. Mowing lawns. Washing cars. Labor ready. Fixing things for people who don't know how. There are a myriad of options that you just refuse to look into.

[–]runrudyrun 1 point2 points ago

It also depends on the area that you are living in. My friends can't find jobs, and it's understandable. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/16/teen-unemployment-summer-2012_n_1602254.html

[–]Yoshi_Girl -1 points0 points ago

I can't pay my bills by mowing lawns and washing cars. When you have to pay $700+ in bills every month little jobs like fixing things only go so far.

[–]icamefrom4chan 0 points1 point ago

By the way I would LOVE to only have 700 in bills a month. Unfortunately I have to pay the bills of a 19 and 20 year old as well while they sit around and play Xbox complaining that jobs are too hard to find.

[–]Yoshi_Girl 0 points1 point ago

Honestly I can't comment on that because I'm only 21 and have no kids. I'm sure in the future I will feel your pain, but right now I only have me to look after and that's enough for now. I'm way too young and poor to financially raise another person.

[–]icamefrom4chan 0 points1 point ago

That you realize that says a lot.

[–]ThatOtherGirl 1 point2 points ago

So doing nothing is better?

[–]Yoshi_Girl -2 points-1 points ago

How was that ever implied in my post?

[–]icamefrom4chan 0 points1 point ago

Seems like the implication you were making. At 20 dollars a lawn or car washed even if you took weekends off it would only take 2 lawns/cars a day to make 800 a month. If you decided to actually work 8 hours a day you could take 2 weeks a month off to look for better work and still pay your bills. Having done it myself I can tell you that there are a lot of people willing to shell out 20 bucks for 2 hours of honest work around their house.

[–]imperator285 4 points5 points ago

[–]zublits 1 point2 points ago

I just got a job. I immediately regret the decision.

... having money for groceries is nice though.

[–]YesIamaWizard 0 points1 point ago

You're doing it wrong. If you already have food. You don't need groceries.

[–]caphits -3 points-2 points ago

As opposed to garbage for groceries.

[–]zublits 2 points3 points ago

In my case the alternative is begging my relatives for cash. So I guess a shitty minimum wage job is slightly less demeaning than that.

[–]Pike1914 2 points3 points ago

Get a job, they said. It'll be fun, they said.

[–]Damnit_Nappa 0 points1 point ago

They never said it would be fun, just that it would be necessary

[–]upvotegordy 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if I should upvote because I agree, or downvote for it being a really old repost.

[–]Shut_Up_About_Repost 1 point2 points ago

Or just shut the fuck up because no one gives a shit about your thought process when voting...

[–]upvotegordy 1 point2 points ago

haha relevant username and response =D

[–]WyndMetal 0 points1 point ago

Considering your name, how much time do you actually put in before voting?

[–]upvotegordy 0 points1 point ago

Meh just made the username because I couldn't think of anything else.

[–]freddiefranks 0 points1 point ago

Fun fact: in Scotland "jobby" is a slang term for poop.

[–]Yoshi_Girl 1 point2 points ago

I remember a police officer told me how easy it was to get a job. "Oh, just go down to your grocery store and ask to sweep their floors".

[–]IncredibleFalk1 0 points1 point ago

You're out of the gang.

[–]nightlord52 1 point2 points ago

The prefect qoute for me today put a smile on my face.

[–]rhymes_with_banker 0 points1 point ago

I have a friend like this, we went to school together until graduating university. I'm 40 years old, so is he...I've been pretty much constantly employed since paper routes as a child, worked every kind of job including some notably shit ones and some amazing ones. He worked for his brother for a couple of years and then in a shop for a bit, I'd say maybe 5 years' work tops. Nothing wrong with him, it's just easier to have guys like me pay taxes so he can live on the dole. Pisses me off, reason I don't see him much anymore.

Every time I see this reposted it reminds me of him. Excuses aplenty, but no get up in the morning and pound the pavement, the job has to actually COME TO HIM AND BE PUSHY ABOUT IT or meh he's back to doing nothing on the sofa until the next government cheque arrives.

[–]bigsol81 1 point2 points ago

I find that most people that complain about not finding a job are simply being extremely picky.

"Have you tried applying at <insert fast food restaurant name>?"

"Fuck that, I'm not flipping burgers for a living!"

[–]wwhateverr 0 points1 point ago

I've noticed this in other threads, but seriously, why the hell do so many redditors believe that their personal experience is comparable to everyone else's experience?

Just because it was easy to find a job where you live, doesn't mean it's easy for people elsewhere. Just because you know some lazy people, doesn't mean everyone who can't find a job is lazy.

[–]8_4_Schu 0 points1 point ago

I've worked 3 jobs while going to school before, and had two jobs for the majority of my life. Only in the last ten years have I been able to work just one job. I have a hard time accepting that people go for more than a month or two without working SOME kind of job. My dad worked three jobs when I and my siblings were growing up, and I guess I learned my work ethic from him. Every time I see a post from someone saying they've been out of work for X number of years, I think of Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation - out of work for years because "he's holding out for a management position".

[–]TheMoro 1 point2 points ago

Get a job you lazy shit.

[–]Miora -1 points0 points ago

Yes, because it's that fucking easy.

[–]TheMoro 0 points1 point ago

Of course it's that easy. I've never been out of work in 18 years and it's hardly because of my vast array of skills.

[–]sivablue -5 points-4 points ago

If you really want a job, you can find one. Go to McDonalds. Stop bitching.

[–]Gel_Mibson 4 points5 points ago

Some people are over qualified for that line of work. Bruh.

[–]ThatOtherGirl 0 points1 point ago

If you don't have experience working, than no. What is so wrong with McD or waiting tables during/after college to get some experience and show initiative while looking for a "good" job?

[–]Miora 0 points1 point ago

There is nothing wrong with working at mcd or waiting tables. The fact is is that some people are too qualified for these jobs. Or that in some states hiring is lower there than in other states. There are a lot of factors to include when it comes to getting a job. I was extremely lucky to get the job I currently have now. -Only reason I got it was because of the manager being interested in my name which in most cases is a deal breaker when it comes to getting a job. Also I'm still fresh out of high school with no job experience.-

[–]xenthum 0 points1 point ago

Where they have a 600 person waiting list just for part time openings? k.

[–]sivablue -2 points-1 points ago

If you want to be employed, you can be.

[–]TheWac0Kid -1 points0 points ago

Yes that 8% of people are just being too picky and need to be more American and go wrassle a job down. They're all just lazy.

[–]sivablue 0 points1 point ago

That's all I'm saying.

[–]MonicaMarieee 1 point2 points ago

Totally read it in his voice.

[–]Tdaug1996 -1 points0 points ago

someone says "get a job" then you must say "ok, give me a hand"...

[–]rohirs -1 points0 points ago

Oh look someone posted it again...
