That's why you approach towards the animals spine, not towards its legs. der.

I'm pretty sure it's a sign that she's got a concussion. My friend told me something about how the body will go rigid after a strong blow to the head or nervous system, I think he called it "fencing"... Which oddly sounds like planking now that I think about it.

[–]Newgeta 1 point2 points ago

Came to post this to make everyone's lives better and of course someone beat me to it. Fencing Response: Wikipedia - for the Lazy

[–]kareemabduljabbq 61 points62 points ago

used to ride horses as a kid. it's basically a gut instinct now. I've never been kicked by a horse, but I see this and wince. was basically pounded into me that when you walk around a horse from the back you give it a good five feet of room.

that woman probably had her jaw fractured there.

[–]Throwaway_account134 40 points41 points ago

I heard the opposite... if you're crossing behind a horse that knows you, keep your hand on it so it knows you're there. Plus it's too close for the hooves to catch you 'round the head.

I never really followed that though. I've been kicked before (chasing down a pony), I choose to walk around it from far away.

[–]farkdog 36 points37 points ago

Yup, I was told the same thing. If you have to go in behind a horse, stay up close against it. You'll get a shove instead of a jackhammer.

[–]surrealasm_atwork 12 points13 points ago

Man, either way, I've seen too many of these gifs/vids. I cross way way far away. I equate standing <10 ft. behind a horse to standing in front of a jet engine.

edit: I a word

[–]pearldrum1 84 points85 points ago

I was always taught that if you're walking behind a horse, a sexy sexy horse, then you should block the kick with your erection.

[–]butterflypoon 78 points79 points ago

Get back to SpaceClop.

[–]pearldrum1 22 points23 points ago

JUDGEME

[–]AlwaysDisposable 1 point2 points ago

Exactly. If they can't get that full kick behind it you aren't going to take near the amount of punishment.

[–]pumori 22 points23 points ago

I was taught a combination of both-- when passing behind an unfamiliar horse, give it plenty of space and make a low constant sound, like talking, so the horse can hear you even when you're in its visual blind spot. When working in close quarters, or with a familiar horse, keep a hand on them when you need to pass behind them.

[–]acdcfanbill 1 point2 points ago

This is what I do as well. Basically with my horses, if I'm next to them, I've generally always got a hand on them unless we're walking with a lead.

[–]ItsSkitters 26 points27 points ago

I used to train horses. Here's the rules:

  • NEVER approach a horse from behind. They have a blind spot there and many will kick if you startle them.
  • Always try to approach them from the left towards their front shoulder. This is how they are trained in most of the world. As you approach, extend an arm and touch them on near the withers on their left side.
  • IF you need to cross behind them, do so by being as close to their back side as possible. Trail a hand along their body as you cross around to let them know you are there. Being close means that even if they do kick, they don't have enough space to gain momentum to kill you with a strong blow.
  • Don't mess with stallions (uncastrated males). Stick to geldings and mares. Stallions are unpredictable and fairly dangerous creatures.

I've been kicked a couple times myself. A fractured ankle was the worst of it. Be careful with horses.

[–]Throwaway_account134 13 points14 points ago

Also, the mean ones bite. And like to step on your toes intentionally. And hold their breath so their saddles are loose. At least ours does. She's a mean old cow.

[–]overkill 13 points14 points ago

Well that's where you're going wrong. Cows don't like saddles too much.

[–]ItsSkitters 2 points3 points ago

Haha I used to pull the cinch once, wait till they exhaled, then pulled it tight again. Also learned not to wear steel toed boots around draft horses. Their weight bent the lip of the steel toe dangerously close to trapping my own toes.

And yes. Horse bites hurt a lot. So many bruises. I was in charge of ground manners, so I got all the unruly yearlings. They learned quick though.

Oddly I was actually rammed in the chest by a mean old cow that grazed on the property. I don't know if it was karma or what but she passed a few weeks later.

[–]Hex-Kitty 2 points3 points ago

You need more up votes I have ridden my whole life and have also trained and this is exactly right. Also, unless the horse is sedated or it's an emergency be very careful walking up to a horse laying down. They may be in mid roll (or sleeping) and it's not fun to get hit by a hoof because they are scratching their back, getting re-dirty after a washing, or if you accidentally spook them.

[–]flyingthroughspace 11 points12 points ago

Plus it's too close for the hooves to catch you 'round the head.

Perfect distance for a nut-shot, though.

Sidenote: I volunteered at a YMCA camp for a number of years where one of the activities was horseback riding. One of the counselors was helping boost a kid onto a horse and gave it a little too much boost. The kid went sailing over the horse and landed on the ground on the other side. It was so funny even the kid was laughing.

[–]Throwaway_account134 4 points5 points ago

Good thing that horse wasn't jittery!

[–]deadwisdom 8 points9 points ago

I was kicked in the head when I was 8. I don't go anywhere near the back of a horse, I don't care what the fuck you say.

[–]singlewhitewolf 1 point2 points ago

I have been training/riding my entire life. I can confirm that you always let the horse know you are they by keeping a hand on it when you walk behind.

[–]MoonBanana 1 point2 points ago

you are they sounds like a good sci fi movie.

[–]OK_I_LAUGHED 2 points3 points ago

This is a cow and with it on its side someone should be on its neck holding its upper front hoof. Also when it is on its side you always stay behind its back. Also while walking behind a horse you stay right behind it to absorb the kick in your leg and not upper body or head. The "cowboy" in the gif should know this already and never let her approach it from it's under side.

[–]RaidensReturn 1 point2 points ago

Shouldn'ta been standing there

[–]drockers 89 points90 points ago

It's weird how shes lands with her arms and legs straight and too her body in a pencil position.

[–]gloomdoom 97 points98 points ago

I think it suggests that she enters into what's known as the coffin position. She is ready for burial at this point of the fall.

[–]iamjamin 60 points61 points ago

9/10 landing

[–]albinocheetah 157 points158 points ago

As opposed to a 9/11 landing which is just collapsing to the ground.

[–]brontosaurus-rex 24 points25 points ago

I think this is a reaction to a concussion called "posturing." Same thing happens to this guy after he comes off the slide and hits his head.

[–]sarcasticQuip 1 point2 points ago

I'm both disappointed and proud that i've already seen this video.

[–]mujizac 1 point2 points ago

I agree. She took a hit right to the head, I'm almost sure that is what occurred here.

[–]Autumnsprings 1 point2 points ago

thank you! that was freaking me out. i was like, is she afraid we're gonna see up her skirt or something? this makes SO much more sense!

[–]Buhnanah 6 points7 points ago

I thought she was trying to hold her dress down.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]MiniDonbeE 4 points5 points ago

When a shockingly hard blow is delivered that is how you fall. The kick litterally sent massive electric signals to her whole body making it tense completely, it basically hit so hard her nervous system was overwhelmed by electric signals.

[–]radiobaby 2 points3 points ago

I think she was trying to pull her skirt down, not fully realizing she has a broken jaw yet.

[–]PieBoy 1 point2 points ago

Yuuup. She got knocked out.

[–]Jungle_Boy 32 points33 points ago

Here's the vid. Believe me. It's waaaaay better with sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAkTPmM5qgI

[–]CUJM 14 points15 points ago

What the hell is in its ass?

[–]Dulljack 11 points12 points ago

It just finished giving birth. Remnants of the birth sac and all the other goodies that go along with it. That's why she is wearing those shoulder-length gloves too.

Usually the cow will immediately begin cleaning the afterbirth off the baby after delivering, but this one must have been pretty exhausted. The cow didn't see her approach so it got startled and kicked when she touched it. Same reason you never approach a horse from the rear. I can't believe she got back up.

[–]HolyLiaison 2 points3 points ago

It was placenta. It just had a baby.

[–]Thinkiknoweverything 2 points3 points ago

thud

WEE!

[–]jessegu792 7 points8 points ago

thank u for being the only useful one in this thread

[–]lavacat 2 points3 points ago

good to know she gets up at the end

[–]sirmegalorddrawesome 158 points159 points ago

It's been 2 hours already, someone reverse that motherfucking gif.

[–]Sharkie4194 4 points5 points ago

Is she pantieless in one of the frames!?

[–]fishrobe 1 point2 points ago

possibly.... to the forensics lab!

[–]MrMonkeyMasta 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for showing me a useful site!

[–]desull 2 points3 points ago

Thank you for that

[–]trainsacrossthesea 1 point2 points ago

Plus it makes the cowhand look honorable.

[–]gloomdoom 22 points23 points ago

This is the funniest comment in here. I loved the way she assumed the coffin position after she came to a screeching halt.

[–]desull 6 points7 points ago

Yeah wtf is that about? She goes flailing around to planking, odd way to fall.

[–]alphamini 6 points7 points ago

Almost a variation on the fencing response.

[–]KevimusPrime 1 point2 points ago

I think she was just going to pull her skirt down.

[–]politburrito 1 point2 points ago

She looks kind of old plus, you know, a horse kicked her face in. I'm much younger and I would've just laid there, too. Also, concussion.

[–]ItsSkitters 1 point2 points ago

Thats a horse.

[–]LurkerTroll 61 points62 points ago

Does anyone else feel bad for the woman?

[–]surroundedbyidiots88 58 points59 points ago

Yes

[–]Mdither 28 points29 points ago

Maybe

[–]stefanocfb 12 points13 points ago

So

[–]qpalz 17 points18 points ago

I don't know

[–]porkboi 50 points51 points ago

no

[–]ChimpanAToChimpanzee 5 points6 points ago

[–]veracosa 7 points8 points ago

yes. Even if you are asking for it, being maimed sucks.

[–]MoonBanana 2 points3 points ago

neigh.

[–]deathcomesilent 1 point2 points ago

I feel bad for the guy who is likely married that that woman.

[–]temp32934 2 points3 points ago

The only reason I clicked the comments sections was to find out if she was okay.

[–]Ontic 79 points80 points ago

...and right into fencing response at the end.

[–]FuckingAhe 91 points92 points ago

[–]searingsky 55 points56 points ago

I... did not expect that

[–]sirmegalorddrawesome 4 points5 points ago

and i'm still laughing

[–]thadood2 1 point2 points ago

Big Top Pee Wee? Aaaaaaand I'm 5 again.

[–]dimechimes 19 points20 points ago

think she was pulling her skirt down.

[–]jamesneysmith 9 points10 points ago

She got a hoof to the face. I doubt she knew she was even wearing a skirt at that moment. A likely concussion.

[–]dimechimes 3 points4 points ago

She had the wherewithal to try and break her fall with her arms. She managed to keep her head from hitting the ground. I think she got lucky.

[–]Johnnygunnz 2 points3 points ago

But she grabbed her face first. I figured she'd immediately be out like a light after an impact like that.

[–]walkinthecow 2 points3 points ago

In Detroit that is the Jakub Voracek response.

[–]firevice 1 point2 points ago

Kid got destroyed by Kronwall

[–]psychroclasm 20 points21 points ago

"Quick, they hate planking! It scares them!"

[–]UnbelievableSynonyms 2 points3 points ago

Haha, yeah I was a little perplexed about that.

[–]CtrlC_plus_CtrlV 52 points53 points ago

She's lucky it didn't kill her. My great aunt died from being kicked in the throat by a bull.

[–]pureskill 27 points28 points ago

Yeah, a good friend of mine from childhood occasionally had seizures as the result of being kicked in the head by a horse. I didn't find this funny because I immediately thought about that. Assuming I didn't have the knowledge of what a kick like that can do, I probably would have laughed though.

[–]Tetha 2 points3 points ago

Honestly, force application to the head is almost never funny. Even moderate or moderate looking forces can seriously mess up the spine, brain, eyes and so on.

[–]JimHarbaughsHand 11 points12 points ago

So did Dick Whittmans dad. True story.

[–]YouSirCanFuckOff 3 points4 points ago

Who walks toward the most vulnerable portion of a reclining animal... and then says "Coochie coochie cooo!"?

That said, I had three upper jaw teeth knocked out by a 3yo colt getting his hooves trimmed for the first time. Through the bars of the chute. By his opposite back hoof. Suicide style.

[–]bross10 4 points5 points ago

FINISH HER.

[–]EuropaCar 2 points3 points ago

so for the uninformed.. what do those gloves mean?

[–]EmLouise 8 points9 points ago

They're intended for rectal exams or artificial insemination etc. Since the animal is lying down, probably birth assistance.

[–]acityinflorida 3 points4 points ago

I would feel bad if it was an obvious beginner who was just trying to feed the animal some grain or something, but with gloves on like that you DEFINITELY ought to know better.

[–]HayGuiseHay 7 points8 points ago

What's up with you and the animal kicking gifs?

[–]nomechinguex[S] 29 points30 points ago

www.animalsbeingdicks.com sorry I spent too much time there today

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

God dammit!

[–]nomechinguex[S] 8 points9 points ago

Hey did you see, it seems 2 of my posts just kicked it to the frontpage

[–]HayGuiseHay 4 points5 points ago

Yeah man, nice job :)

[–]biscuits_alive 1 point2 points ago

Bang! Zoom! Straight to the third moon of Omicron Persei 8!

[–]Strug-ga-ling 5 points6 points ago

For anyone interested (for science, of course), those arm-length gloves are generally used in artificial insemination of cattle, or other large livestock. One for each arm, an arm for each hole. You get the picture.

Source: A scarred childhood of dairy farming.

[–]SoHereIAm85 1 point2 points ago

Or for checking pregnancy and term status. Or removal of sometimes putrid afterbirth.

I also grew up on a dairy farm :D

[–]raevnos 1 point2 points ago

Ever read the James Herriot books? Large animal vet in the days before gloves. Bare arms, up to his shoulder in cows and horses on a daily basis. shudder

[–]MrMaybe 3 points4 points ago

I wasn't taught anything about horses. Everyone knows so much about horses and I wasn't taught anything about horses other than a dog is not a horse and a cat is not a horse.

[–]jay1987 3 points4 points ago

She got knocked the fuck out man

[–]ronconcoca 3 points4 points ago

A cow kicked my face...

Better pull my skirt down...

[–]TheDoctorAndTardis 4 points5 points ago

Shh..It's ok... I'm only going to artificially inseminate you...

[–]dacimvrl 1 point2 points ago

Boom: Headshot

[–]nickkid09 1 point2 points ago

"IN THE FACE!"

[–]ceezed 1 point2 points ago

Damn! That beast should be in the UFC

[–]Unique_newyork 1 point2 points ago

Best planking video ever

[–]sp00nix 1 point2 points ago

Assume the luge position when under animal attack

[–]House_of_D 1 point2 points ago

I grew up on a small horse farm where we had anywhere from 10 to 30 horses at a time so I've had a lot of experience with horses and the main reason they usually kick you is because you spooked them. Horses don't have the kind of peripheral vision we do and they kick as a defense mechanism . What he was saying is give it enough room that if it kicks it doesn't make contact. This is good if you are just have to walk past the horse, but if you have to walk around a horse it's best to approach from the front (or if from the side make sure you are near their head) so they see you. Then pat them on their back the whole way while you walk around them. If they do kick at least it's not your head but rarely will they kick if you approach like this. It is suggested you know the horse though. They are like people and have their own personalities. Some of them are asses....

[–]bluntedaffect 1 point2 points ago

Looks like I picked a good day to start selling teeth.

[–]themoonandthestars 1 point2 points ago

I like how despite having just been kicked in the face by a beast at least twice her size the lady displays an excellent textbook example of the supine position in the last couple frames.

[–]NumbersMakeMeHorny 1 point2 points ago

FATALITY!

[–]WisconsnNymphomaniac 1 point2 points ago

As someone who has been kicked in the face by a cow, I can really sympathize with this woman.

[–]Wildebeast1 1 point2 points ago

POW!!! RIGHT IN THE KISSER

Fuckin dentist is gonne be busy with her!

[–]supercordial_aliens 1 point2 points ago

This was in Brazil a while ago. The cow had just given birth. It was probably in a lot of pain, trying to touch it was a very stupid idea.

[–]Unshackledai 1 point2 points ago

That's why you don't approach a horse that's lying down, it's their most vulnerable state and they know it, they get frightened easy, and even if the horse knows you and has plenty of warning you're there there's never any guarantee that you won't get your head bashed in

[–]calculator008 1 point2 points ago

did she died?

[–]crowdawg7768 1 point2 points ago

this .gif is too short. what happens afterwards?!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

NOT UP IN HERE!!!

[–]Thunder_Bastard 1 point2 points ago

If there is one thing I have learned from watching people get kicked by horses on the internet, it is that horses have spectacular aim.

[–]well_golly 1 point2 points ago

Damn TSA. Nobody likes 'em.

[–]IxnayStudios 1 point2 points ago

The guy behind her... I'm not gonna catch you, dumb slitch

[–]Grinddbass 1 point2 points ago

Is it just me, or did she get hotter when her glasses got knocked off?

[–]LukeTheSheep 2 points3 points ago

"well fuck, better start planking"

[–]andshewas_45 0 points1 point ago

I like her facial expression as she approaches. All business like and what not and then a jab from the horse and it's all over.

[–]nutellachicken4 0 points1 point ago

..aand her face is broken.

[–]Sonris 0 points1 point ago

Never trust a hoofer.

[–]mylittleraichu 0 points1 point ago

I like how she immediately goes into a planking position after being stuck

[–]Lowryder007 0 points1 point ago

Wow, better chin than most boxers, doesn't look like she got knocked out.

[–]justmadethisaccountt 0 points1 point ago

She just doesn't know what she's doing and the animal took advantage.

[–]TJ-sylar 0 points1 point ago

Pow! Right in the kisser!

[–]yemd 0 points1 point ago

So I wonder if anyone asked her why the long face.

[–]ADozenArrows 0 points1 point ago

She must've though it was a fucking Triceratops

[–]lugabiel 0 points1 point ago

TANGO DOWN!

[–]gasholer 0 points1 point ago

[–]internetz 0 points1 point ago

That's my reaction to someone trying to tickle me

[–]mitchluvscats 0 points1 point ago

At that point I think I'd just shoot it for spite.

[–]learnadaptbecome 0 points1 point ago

If you watch this gif backwards it's about a voodoo priest raising a woman from the dead who immediately slaps a horse to death.

[–]syscofresh 0 points1 point ago

I like how the guy doesn't try catching her but instead backs away like, "Whoah, don't touch me."

[–]Beeerice 0 points1 point ago

Love how when she hits the ground, she totally planks like that'll stop everyone from seeing her panties.

[–]Churros33 0 points1 point ago

[–]OneofthemBrians 0 points1 point ago

That probably broke every single bone in her face.

[–]skinnyjeansandthongs 0 points1 point ago

That kick looked HARD. I was kicked in the leg by a horse when I was younger and i swear the bruise is only just going away now.

[–]Xorglord 0 points1 point ago

I like how at the end she lies down like she's in a coffin.

[–]Mileskitsune 0 points1 point ago

the gif hasn't loaded (slow internet) so here's a guess

it's going to jizz on her isn't it? :C

edit: i am relieved (lol)

[–]Itsnotaworm 0 points1 point ago

yeesh, it looks like she tenses up and passes out when she hits the ground.

[–]Paul_Lazzaro 0 points1 point ago

Damn she got CLOCKED in the face.

[–]xenoph2 0 points1 point ago

Sauce because reddit failed to deliver in 6 hours.

[–]certnneed 0 points1 point ago

Poor horse is just lying there, relaxing, minding its' own business, when all of a sudden somebody comes up and starts tickling it! It was self defense! Won't somebody think of the horses!!!

[–]9-1-Holyshit 0 points1 point ago

I like how she planks at the end.

[–]CasillasQT 0 points1 point ago

humanity defenitely needs a gif of that

[–]zkortez13 0 points1 point ago

Oww shit..... PLANK

[–]SoHereIAm85 0 points1 point ago

I see some root canals in her future.

[–]big_ol_boners 0 points1 point ago

Im not sure if she was knocked out...but she tenses up as soon as she hits the ground

[–]Chloeasha 0 points1 point ago

Thaat's gonna leave a mark!

[–]nineteen_eightyfour 0 points1 point ago

That person is stupid for trying that. Definitely no professional
