Hard drives are surprisingly resilient. Also the magnets which park the heads are very strong. It takes a serious blow to knock them loose and cause damage. my laptop had taken a spill from 3.5' to hard floor, and that drive is still humming along which was several years ago. 2.5" drives are better about this as they are meant for laptops, plus the heads' arms are shorter. /science... I'm sure I'll get downvoted, but meh...

I've seen my fair share of harddrive failures in my time as a support.

Mostly it's because the user moves the laptop too fast, drops it, throws it etc. but I guess that's mostly with drives from Western Digital, they aren't really solid in my expirience.

Weird guess hp is doing something right I dropped my 9.8lbs tank of a laptop off a bunk bed onto concete (bunk bed In gerage) and to put it frankly it bounced. I just cried softly looking at it on the ground for about 10-15min got it up a turned it on and it was just fine. despite some external case cracking.

Did they do somthing or am I lucky as fuck?

Laptop hard drives, yes. External HDs, on the other hand, tend to be not very resilient to even movement, at least in my experience. Ever since my first couple external HDs got damaged fairly soon, I only ever touch them when they're not running.
