Don't worry, in August their High School Musical will start back up, and all their time will be taken away from reddit so they can sing, dance, and have all kinds of fb drama. Then, reddit shall be purged of it's "DAE hate it when your mom yells at you when you play xbox, GAWD" and the sort.

I mean, they're not really trying to look tough to you, they're trying to look tough to their peers, and in comparison, they may very well be tougher.

You were in their shoes, probably had a pretty shitty haircut and did a lot of embarrassing things too when you were their age a few years ago, and there is no doubt in my mind that later in life you will look back on yourself and feel embarrassed about many things you're doing these days. it's part of growing up, they're not inferior to you just because they're younger, you look really stupid ridiculing kids going through puberty in front of many people that are twice your age.

I teach at an inner-city middle school where local gangs (mostly drug cartel related) start recruiting kids around 5th grade...not only can the kids be truly threatening (and quite genuine with their threats), but that kind of involvement often leaves kids on such an intense aggro/self-destructive tilt that it takes years to fix.

Hell, last year one of my school's sixth-graders beat a kids head in with a baseball bat...and then sat down and finished his breakfast while we waited for the police and ambulance to show up.
