So I used to work at a high end butcher shop and smoke house. We processed a lot of wild game for hunters and the like. One day I show up at work and some one has written in big black letters, "ANIMAL KILLERS!" on our sign. The thing that pissed me off is that Butchering is different than slaughtering. If they had written "ANIMAL CUTTER UPPERS!" I don't think I would have minded so much... Also one time a lady asked me to kill a goat.

People don't realize that often times, the butcher does not kill the animals. If it is a butcher often there is very little killing there, If it is a locker or a slaughterhouse, then there will be some killing there.

I completely agree that this is a pretty ignorant statement. But when a grown adult (presumably) with enough intelligence to publish a column in a newspaper with minimal grammatical errors still makes this statement, I personally consider that crossing the line from ignorance to pure stupidity.

it's still for sport even if you eat the animal, unless you're in a situation you can't get food anywhere else. you don't need to kill the animal yourself, you choose to. the fact you ate it afterward doesn't mean you aren't doing it for fun.

I'd be willing to wager we assume such because for a long while in society, it's typically men who fulfill the role of hunter/gatherer. Based on this subconscious assumption, it would be very silly if a male who knew how the meat would have to get market then took out an advert in the paper saying how despicable it was.

And since I know there will be people waiting to flame: I'm not saying in any way that it has to be a female, nor that hunter roles must always be fulfilled by a male. It's just how things worked because scientifically men were more fitting of the role.

<relevant> anyone who thinks not eating meat is saving an animal, tell that to the sliced meat on the shelves of millions of stores around the country. You are saving nothing, if anything you are wasting what was already harvested.

Animals across the world eat to survive, that includes killing to do it. This is the law of the land and how the world works. Think clearly, if you want to protest meat, do it for the right reasons around the business practices that drive profit and pollution, not for saving an already dead face.

It is only murder when you don't consume what you kill. It is wasteful and shameful to let all those already dead animals to die for nothing, just to be thrown in the garbage can so you can prove a point that has no impact on the mass production of meat.
