You are my favorite novelty account.

I figured this was a necessary message to the inevitable "This isn't related to atheism" comments. The head moderator himself has said that we as a community decide what is okay to post. If these issues get upvoted, they clearly matter to us and are allowed. Issues like gay rights are relevant because the opposition to them are predominantly religious based. When you have Christian organizations donating literally millions of dollars to repeal or ban gay marriage in the United States it becomes an issue relevant to this subreddit.
Message from the head moderator of /r/atheism
[–]littleHiawatha 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
There's that, and then there's the painfully obvious karma mining formula:
[anything that makes christians mad] + [post it in r/atheism] = [deluge of upvotes]
[–]Jonas84 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Shh they cant know that we cracked the system !
[–]ECUT11 8 points9 points10 points 12 days ago*
What you're talking about is political, not religious. Shouldn't this subreddit be designed for people searching for confirmatory or contradictory evidence regarding the supernatural? It seems almost as ignorant to advocate gay rights under the banner of Atheism as it is to prohibit them under the banner of Christianity.
It's disturbing that a large group of people that pride themselves on being "open- minded" are employing the same strategies as the people you complain about every day.
[–]Kinbensha 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
No. You're thinking about /r/trueatheism. We are not the same subreddit. Go there.
/r/atheism is for all atheism related material.
[–]nakedjay 20 points21 points22 points 13 days ago
Well that was on target.
[–]tehgreatist 9 points10 points11 points 13 days ago
honestly im pretty sick of shit like this. who cares how many corporations are going to be smart enough to let their marketing team advertise to gay people? they just want your money, damnit.

Doesn't Target claim to be progay but secretly donate to antigay programs?
[–]liveinsanity 15 points16 points17 points 13 days ago
I work at a Target in the San Jose area, and we actually had a store wide "gathering" for the gay pride parade in San Francisco a couple weeks back. I'm always seeing something about supporting gay rights posted on the bulletin board.
[–]Karieanne 89 points90 points91 points 13 days ago
Unfortunately I'm at work and your link is blocked for me, but from what I understand, Target is not anti-gay. In the last election cycle, Target made contributions to a PAC and the PAC donated money to Tom Emmer, who was a (crazy) anti-gay candidate for governor of Minnesota (Target's home state). Target has been a supporter of the Twin Cities Pride parade since before this, and they've recently started selling same sex marriage themed greeting cards. :)
[–]FirstTimeWang 65 points66 points67 points 13 days ago
All the more why corporations shouldn't be allowed to donate money to the political process.
[–]sonnuvabitch 43 points44 points45 points 13 days ago

[–]tsokin 12 points13 points14 points 13 days ago

Then Blackwater/Xe should get the death penalty.
[–]hellajaded 51 points52 points53 points 13 days ago
When you combine gay-friendly visibility with political donations to PACs that support anti-gay politicians, then your gay-friendly stance just looks like something the marketing department came up with.
[–]Prancemaster 14 points15 points16 points 13 days ago
which is exactly what it is with all of these companies jumping on the bandwagon. People eat that shit up.
[–]casey17p 10 points11 points12 points 13 days ago
in this case, propaganda is serving a good purpose. so rare an instance, it is.
[–]Prancemaster 5 points6 points7 points 13 days ago
That good purpose is lining Target's pocket with dollars.
[–]steve_youngblood 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
I see no problem with this
[–]Prancemaster 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago
Me either. Target runs a great store, IMO.
[–]ahojhoj 3 points4 points5 points 13 days ago
It looks like that even more so when you apologize, and promise to never do it again. Then, turn right around and give even more. As far as I am concerned the boycott is still in effect. Fuck everything about Target.
[–]gotsomuchshittodo 9 points10 points11 points 13 days ago
But they did. I don't know why people seem surprised. Marriages sell - especially now that homosexuals are "this close" to getting laws passed in other states why wouldn't the marketing department at Target be like "OH SHIT guys! Lets make a same-sex registry!" DING DONG. Duh. Pfft. While im super happy that Target is taking this step and really lighting the way for other companies to follow suit and will be a HUGE step in the gay rights movement yadi yadi yadi - its all for money. Target went gay for pay.
[–]WhoWatchesTheWatcher 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago
Target was pro-gay before all of this. Target company policy was very gay friendly (rated one of the better places to work "gay-rights"-wise). I went to their headquarters years back and met a ton of openly gay guys. They are being more public about it now, but they have not suddenly went gay for pay, as you implied.
[–]SicDigital 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
I agree with you, but isn't that just a "well... duh" thing? I mean, Target is a retailer after all -- absolutely any- and everything they do is for money. Making money is why they exist. Now, Target is one of my favorite stores, but it's still a store. Everything they do is with their profits in mind.
[–]Kajillionaire 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
How are people thinking differently?
-clears throat-
Corporations are not people, they exist solely to make money.
[–]knedders 19 points20 points21 points 13 days ago
I was working at Target Corporate HQ when this all went down. You are completely right. They gave to the PAC, an organization that supported corporate rights. Since Emmer sided with their beliefs, they donated to his campaign, but because of his views on gay marriage, and affiliation with extremist christians, the news came out that Target "supported" anti gay sentiments. Which is completely untrue. Not only have they sponsored the gay pride parade in Minneapolis like you said, but they have offered the same benefits (taxes, healthcare, etc.) their married employees get to same-sex couple employees as well. That and they have partnered with gay designers, etc. The Emmer thing was a fluke, and I'm glad to see that they are bringing their support of gay rights into their advertising.
[–]rycanto 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
Their donation caused a huge uproar and what you are seeing above is a move to counter their image as being anti-gay due to the political donation scandal. At least that's how I understand it.
[–]steve_youngblood 3 points4 points5 points 13 days ago
Even if someone does the right thing for the wrong reasons, its still the right thing
[–]Caoryn 3 points4 points5 points 13 days ago
I appreciate the clarification.
[–]SaintBeckett 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Don't you mean the equivocation?
[–]recursionr 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
so, your work blocks blogspot.com but not reddit.com?
BIG mistake!
[–]worker_bot 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
I live in the twin cities and just wanted to add to what you said what I've heard from people that work in targets corporate office.
I've heard that their benefits also benefit same-sex partners and word is they are a very gay friendly organization to work for. This was a hiccup, but if they continue to support the community and the cause through this and other actions, I'm all for it.
[–]MarthaGail 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
This is the part of the post that talks about Target.
Two-faced corporate supporters There is a new twist in anti-gay corporate behavior. Companies that internally support and champion equality in the workplace while profits (and marketing and lobbying dollars) go to fund anti-gay groups, organizations and politicians in the community. These companies find it to be good business practice to offer and promote their in-house equality programs. To recruit and retain talented and committed employees many big businesses offer clear and defined non-discrimination policies for LGBT employees that are above and beyond the federally protected classes such as age, race, sex, religion, national origin and disability. The overwhelming majority of them also provide benefits to same-sex partners and spouses of employees. In addition, many of the companies seek out and submit information to be included in HRC’s Corporate Equality Index. Despite their high Corporate Equality Index score, the companies and their senior executives undermine their commitment to equality by supporting and donating to bigots and haters. Retailers Target and Best Buy along with conglomerate 3M (Scotch Tape, Post-its, Scotchgard, Nexcare) are three such hypocritical and disingenuous companies. Despite initially earning Corporate Equality Index scores of 100%, they have made significant campaign donations ($100,000 to $150,000) to an organization that backs the election of an anti-gay candidate who says that LGBT people should be treated like second-class citizens. [DailyFinance] There are also several high-profile companies that refuse to respond to HRC's invitation to be rated. They include Pottery Barn and West Elm, each part of Williams-Sonoma; Bed Bath & Beyond; Tyson Foods; News Corp., owner of Fox News and HarperCollins Publishers; and several others.

[–]gwarster 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago
Disagree.
Target only supports gay causes because they can make money. They're willing to use anti-gay causes to help get Republicans elected because they believe Republicans will be more business friendly.
Supporting something means that you're willing to stand by it even when it is tough to do so.
BTW, you're a little off on one issue: Target donated to MN Forward which ran ads for Tom Emmer, however MN Forward had an anti-gay platform on its own. It wasn't like Target donated the money to the PAC and then found out later that the PAC used it in a way that they didn't approve of.
[–]knedders 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
bullshit. for a very long time now Target Corp has offered same-sex couple employees the same benefits as hetero married couples. In effect, supporting them as married people even though the laws state they cannot get married. Not many companies do that. Also, has been a corporate sponsor of Pride in minneapolis for many years.

[–]bongsmoker666 14 points15 points16 points 13 days ago*
Whether they are antigay or not they're still a union busting corporation that treats its workers like shit. Apparently cheap marketing gimmicks like this though is all it takes for some people to see them as an "ethical" company.
[–]xpinchx 5 points6 points7 points 13 days ago
Out of all the retail places I've worked at, Target has been the best to me by and far. Not every store is the same, but the pay is decent if you stick with it for more than a year, and the part-time benefits are very very good for the price.
[–]mk1gti 5 points6 points7 points 13 days ago
So what can you expect to make paywise after more than a year hourly? Just curious.
[–]Watergems 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
You have to compare companies to their market competitors, instead of to the most ideal business in the country. I.e. how is Target compared to Wal-Mart?
[–]NeonGreenTV 16 points17 points18 points 12 days ago
As an atheist who supports the LGBT community. I know that not all gays are atheists, actually most gays I know are Christian. So why are LGBT stories that have nothing to do with atheism always popping up in here. Since when did atheist become crossed with LGBT issues? I mean yes, the religious bigotry towards gays drives this, and I get it. But not all gays are atheists, just like not all atheists are supportive of gays. I've heard from some homophobic atheist, I've [again] seen religious gay people, and I've seen heterosexual religious people support gay rights.
[–]ccrazool 3 points4 points5 points 12 days ago
Most gays I know are christians, too. Churchgoers and loving it. Some of them are super involved with their church, with the cookie baking and the potato salad and the face painting booth during river days and all that. All this /r/lgbt crap in /r/atheism is annoying as hell.
[–]BobOneLoveMarley 245 points246 points247 points 13 days ago
Why don't we have a gay pride subreddit for things like this . Not everything that has to do with homosexuality has to do with atheism .
[–]owlesque5 161 points162 points163 points 13 days ago
/r/ainbow
But quite honestly, although there shouldn't be such a strong link between LGBT issues and atheism, the way things are in the US these days, there really is. That said, more of this stuff should probably be funneled to /r/ainbow, and I'm always up for actual interesting material here on /r/atheism.
Signed,
a gay atheist who just wants everyone to get along, dammit.

[–]kctoons 7 points8 points9 points 13 days ago
It's just like advertising. You cast your net into the largest audience even if the demographic doesn't exactly match what you're selling (in this case an argument can, and has been made). This way you end up with a broader result... or more upvotes... and ultimately the front page of reddit.
You can nitpick the reasoning but you can't argue the results.
[–]bourbonaut 24 points25 points26 points 13 days ago
Hey everybody, free advertising on Reddit!
[–]mattsalegend 5 points6 points7 points 12 days ago
why is this posted on r/atheism??!? Atheism isn't just an umbrella term for liberal
[–]Mcwendeys 18 points19 points20 points 12 days ago
What the fuck does this have to do with atheism?
[–]2Lobsters 7 points8 points9 points 12 days ago
Did I miss the memo that announced /r/atheism is the new /r/gay?
[–]CharlesDingus 54 points55 points56 points 13 days ago
Target, Kraft, and all these other companies jumping on the LGBT rights bandwagon don't give a flying fuck about gay people. I'm not going to complain too much because ultimately things like this are doing more good than harm and demonstrating increasing tolerance for people who are different but it's just a marketing ploy, they're only out for your cash so don't funnel your money towards them just because they're making a blatant appeal to your sociopolitical beliefs.
[–]SayVandalay 12 points13 points14 points 13 days ago
Good well rounded point. Good all around that they are doing this but people are naive if they think it's all "just for support and altruism" because it's also for the bottom line.
Let's see how many of Chik Fil-A's competitors start this kind of marketing very soon.
[–]zcast 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
GayFC's new popcorn chicken!
[–]WhoWatchesTheWatcher 18 points19 points20 points 13 days ago
Wait... so companies shouldn't try to make money? Or are you suggesting I shouldn't reward companies that make legitimate efforts to (as I see it) improve society?
What are you warning us about again?
[–]CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
It saddens me that only now these companies are finally jumping on the bandwagon because it's safe, and due to the fact that the gains of marketing towards gays and lesbians now outweigh the losses.
These people have been fighting for acceptance for decades, and now they show up? They have no principles, if it became fashionable to bash them again tomorrow they'd do it in a heartbeat.
[–]RonnieBarnhardt 2 points3 points4 points 12 days ago
Actually Target has been one of the most gay friendly employers long before the whole Chick-Fil-A thing. One of the reasons being they offer benefits to "domestic partners" rather than just married couples.
[–]Shadax 32 points33 points34 points 13 days ago
/r/atheism. Where I go for all my gay pride needs.
Wait...
[–]HalloweenBlues 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
I don't think these guys are actually gay. I just think they're locked in an epic staring contest. Since neither one will waiver, they must now marry and spend the rest of their lives together.
[–]justthrowmeout 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
1.Come up with gay marketing campaign 2.Social media explosion 3.?????? 4.Profit
[–]Newtoreddit05 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
I just love it how it's not understood that this is nothing but a marketing ploy by all of these corporations, let's jump on the social bandwagon of profitability!
[–]wellsaidmucker 2 points3 points4 points 12 days ago
if r/atheism had a colon it would look like a bowl of nesquick cereal. I think it's time all you neckbeards got down on all fours and took the pop shot to the mouth you are all dying for. Holy Moley.

Why? Are they atheists?

You guys do understand that this is all just a jumping on the bandwagon to get some publicity stunt right? Do you people really think even one of the important people in those larger companies even give the slightest fuck about someones sexuality??
[–]c0horst 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
well yea, but honestly, who cares?
If companies promote acceptance in order to drive their own sales, I see that as kind of a win-win.

Yeah, but it's still gonna send One Million Moms into a frothing rage, and that makes me very happy.

What does this have to do with Atheism?
[–]sully13 24 points25 points26 points 13 days ago
WHY IS THIS IS IN r/atheism ?!
[–]allworkandlowpay 35 points36 points37 points 13 days ago*
I'm gonna get downvoted to hell, but fuck this shit.
This isn't being supportive, or politically active. Like the Ray Ban ad before, this is marketing that is jumping on a popular trend in order to garner sympathy and increase sales. They don't give a fuck about gay marriage, they care only about getting more money from "positive protests" and new customers sympathetic to the cause.
We shouldn't support this kind of marketing targets. It's shallow, thinly concealed, and demeaning to our intelligence.
[–]s_m_f_a_h 19 points20 points21 points 13 days ago
Why not? Even if they're just taking advantage of a trend to market, it sends a good message and putting out pictures of a happy married gay couple certainly isn't going to hurt anything. Who cares what thr higher-ups at Target actually think about gay marriage; what's important is how the company acts in relation to the idea. This ad is positive action in the form of public support. Isn't that what matters?
[–]orchardrivington 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
I'm going to be honest with you, if I had seen this ad when I was a lonely, closeted kid who thought everybody hated me, it would have made a HUGE difference for me. Huge. One of the hardest things about being gay as a kid, and adult really, is the shame - you feel bad and wrong and different, and you're so embarrassed about it. All you see on TV and in ads and in the people around you is straight, "normal" people. To see an everyday ad from a mainstream company that featured a happy, healthy gay couple? That would have made me feel a little less alone.
Sure, they're doing it to make money. But it also really makes a difference.
[–]Aknightsword 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Right. If they really wanted to make a stand and support it they'd have done it years ago. But it would've been risky then.
[–]ItsOnlyAnOpinion 66 points67 points68 points 13 days ago
Hey OP you accidentally put this in the wrong subreddit. This has nothing to do with atheism.
[–]piglet24 57 points58 points59 points 13 days ago
/r/atheism is really just /r/ThingsFundamentalistsDisagreeWith
[–]Sit-Down_Comedian 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
Awesome. That's beautiful. People should love who they want to love. Not all homosexuals are atheists. Think before your post.
[–]crap_wrong_post 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
what is that chicken sitting on? I can't tell if that is a puppy or a bear. In any case that animal does not look comfortable.
[–]Duhh233 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
Viral Target marketing campaign was a success
[–]ChulaK 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
One of the rules in business: follow the trend, even if you don't believe in it.
[–]GreatWillHunting 14 points15 points16 points 13 days ago
Holy hell, is this r/atheism or r/gay? Hard to tell the difference these days.
[–]maybenotserious 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
Pretty sure folks are posting LGBT related stuff in this subreddit to mainly piss people off now.

I'm just about done with r/atheism. I'm totally supportive of businesses being pro-love, but I this is not what I originally joined and followed this subreddit for.
[–]ccrazool 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
/r/trueatheism isn't bad
[–]carrythefire 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
thanks!
[–]blunt_person 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
Did I accidentally go to /r/lbgt again?
Come on guys.
[–]KaiserVonScheise 15 points16 points17 points 13 days ago
this has zero things to do with atheism. none. zilch. nada. fuck you.
[–]SchadeyDrummer 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
... and by the way, there is no god.
[–]donrhummy 3 points4 points5 points 13 days ago
No, Target enforces a policy to make it MUCH harder for women (even if raped) to get the morning-after-pill:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5018646
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2005/11/11/target-says-its-pharmacis_n_10503.html
So I'm still boycotting them.
[–]Faultless 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
I work for Target and they were one of the first companies to allow domestic partners to share benefits. I also work with several open gay and lesbians and it has not affected there promotions at all.
[–]ignorant_prick 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
DAE gay???
[–]metallica913 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
Doesn't this belong in r/lgbt ?!?!!? I mean I support gay marriage/rights, but this is a subreddit for atheism related topics. So OP , next time post on the correct subreddit!!!!
[–]giantsrangersyankees 2 points3 points4 points 13 days ago
Let's hear it for PR teams!
[–]ECUT11 4 points5 points6 points 12 days ago
Why is this sort of thing on r/Atheism so often? Supporting gay rights has little to do with belief in a higher power.
[–]MrBlindZombie 7 points8 points9 points 13 days ago
WHEN THE FUCK DID SEXUALITY BECOME RELEVANT SUBJECT MATTER ON A FUCKING ATHEIST SUBREDDIT???
[–]ProjectileHerpes 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
Who the fuck mods /r/atheism?! And why do they refuse to do anything about unrelated topics invading the subreddit?!
[–][deleted] 13 days ago*
[deleted]
[–]Jadex9 10 points11 points12 points 13 days ago
Does this really belong here ?
Honestly, downvote me you fucking cock suckers, but how in the fucking world does this belong here?
Its advertisement for fucks sake!
You guys arent even trying anymore.
[–]mertzlufft 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago
Hey, let's post more relevant things to /r/Atheism!
[–]Plokhi 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago*
Everytime something like this pops up I wonder, "Am I subscribed to any gay-rights subreddit?"
Oh no, it's r/atheism, at it again. Oh well.
edit:fucking grammar
[–]TheManBehindItAll 7 points8 points9 points 13 days ago
Why the fuck is this in /r/atheism.
[–]rrigor22 8 points9 points10 points 13 days ago
THIS ISN'T ATHEISM
[–]shadowdrinker 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Wtf does any of this have to do with the products Target sells?
Unless they are selling gay sex and/or marriage, and unless you're in the market for such services, then this has nothing to do with anything Target is really about.
Unless...They're selling you on some idea? And maybe, you're ignorant and sexually depraved enough to be so eager to buy into that idea, that a simple picture of it is enough to warrant your undying commitment to the store who shows it to you...?
Nah...couldn't be that.
[–]milkyshakey 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
MARKETING
[–]Draggedaround 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
I worked for Target about three years ago, I had more gay co-workers than I've ever had, in my life. Literally 40-60 split. I'm surprised Target didn't do these previously rather than just jumping on coat tails now.
[–]keroro117 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
DAE feel like corporations are jumping on a gay rights bandwagon just to make an extra buck?
[–]oblimo_2K12 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Target has included domestic partners in work benefits for decades. That being said, corporate America has been trying to figure out ways to market to the homosexual demographic on the down low for even longer. If I were an ad executive, I'd want to leverage the openness of the discussion, too.
[–]LiveThenDie 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Interesting because no less than a year ago the opposite was true.
[–]duotriophobia23 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Target refused to carry Frank Oceans (who recently came out) new album. They claimed it had to do with iTunes exclusives.
[–]nowrongwrong 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Hey guys, let's cheer a for-profit company for jumping on a popular marketing bandwagon and trying to sell more shit to a growing segment of the consumer population!
Yay Target! We're so proud of you doing the right thing that just so happens to be very profitable! Because we know you would totally stand up for gay rights if it cost you millions of dollars!
[–]demos74dx 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Pretty soon Million Moms is going to have no option but to only eat at Chic-fil-a. Sooo...now I guess they'll eat there because its obligatory and not just because they're obese white bible-belters.
[–]Mastodon9 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Barriers seem to be crashing down left and right. Good.I wonder how much longer it will be before you start to see gay marriage becoming legal in multiple states a year.
[–]Chodestorm 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
I work at the corporate headquarters and we've been having a pride month sort of thing. Handing out T-shirts, magnets and what have you.
[–]randomly-generated 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Horrible place to work though.
[–]Turdsworth 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
"we'll take your money"
[–]UnderSeeker 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
why is this a good thing?
[–]blimblat 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
There is nothing good about this.
[–]slylockfoxworth 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Probably going to be buried, but you should all read about the continued contributions Target makes to anti-gay politicians. And before everyone gets super-sensitized let me make two points.
Taking a cookie from the cookie jar, apologizing, and continuing to take cookies got you in deeper trouble with your parents when you were a kid. You're intelligent, draw the analogy yourselves.
The more reddit focuses on promoting certain brands for support of equality, the more the amorphous conscience of the whole will brainwash themselves into a dangerous consumerism.
Don't change what you do (necessarily), just be more aware of what you're doing.
[–]danblee 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Nope. I still refuse to cheer for a bandwagon company that's only choosing the side that will ultimately make them the most profitable. Believe me, if it were in the best interest of the company, they'd be on the bad side of this or completely neutral.
[–]thebestwaytodie 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Fuck Target. Everyone just keep their mouths shut and sell chicken or slightly better garbage than Walmart sells.
[–]TheBatman001 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
I DONT SEE WHY A MAJOR CORPORATION HAS A STANCE ON THIS KIND OF STUFF ANYWAY, HURR DURR I GUESS ITS OK AS LONG AS IT SUPPORTS MY CAUSE
[–]yourfacelikesme 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Didn't they pull Frank Oceans album though because they quietly give to pro traditional families?
[–]nathanskates 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
well, never shopping there again!
[–]Try_it 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
You know many a homosexual is actually Religious in some form as well. Not ll gays are atheists I don't understand why these end up here. Down votes to the left haters.
[–]scarr83 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Being gay is unique?
[–]JasmineIsACunt 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
As a Target employee, FUCK TARGET.
[–]TrainerGary 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Man Target has always supported MN republicans and now they go and make this ad? I'm confused.
[–]Hellakittehs 1 point2 points3 points 13 days ago
Man, I would have posted this on here, but I thought I would get yelled at, so I posted it in r/pics. Darn it for my bad decision making. At least you guys didn't yell at him for a repost haha. As for target, I'm sitting in your break room ready to get off work. You pay me money and support gay marriage, HELL YEAH TARGET!!
[–]kingkervin 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Just a matter of time before we put a big fat fucking rainbow in the center of our American flag.
By the way, why can't you fags have a different symbol, like a flame?
[–]Adnachiel 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
What ever happened to the $100,000 Target donated to anti-gay causes a year or so ago?
[–]Hindu_Wardrobe 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Wait. I thought Target was a religiously backed corporation?
[–]Sid3wlksingalong 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Target was very anti-gay last I checked....wtf?
[–]09112001 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
God is trolling us... we're so proud of having 1,000,000 subs, but over half of them will just be here for the gay posts and don't even realize this is r/atheism. Milestone ruined.
[–]SirRonaldofBurgundy 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Target has given millions of dollars to socially conservative Republican candidates. It has done absolutely nothing to support gay marriage except run this self-aggrandizing ad.
[–]banjomin 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Can we please stop all of this? Ur just making controversial issues into marketing fodder. Dont feed the corporate troll
[–]youdoneyo69 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Why is it always two guys? No love for Lesbians?
[–]ATLASness 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
I just don't know. I obviously support gay marriage, as any normal person should, and have many, many, gay friends, but something about this advertising feels so coercive. It's like "no, no, no! we're hip and support gay rights! In fact we support it so much we really want to make money from it!! oh yeah, and we're also going to marginalize your culture by deeming you "unique" as opposed to a normal-fucking-person.
[–]Sp1ffy 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
It seems like most non-religious companies are noticing that the tide is turning in favor of marriage equality and they want to be on the right side.
That said, it's still a nice gesture.
[–]Vox_Rationis 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
I think it is rather sad that all of these pro gay marriage advertisements never show two women.
[–]wemightbebanana 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
r/atheism really isn't a reddit thread... WTF DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ATHEISM?
someone should make r/atheism.com and get you fuckers out of here and into a place where you belong. far far away
[–]on_my_phone_in_dc 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
I'm sorry but weren't they the ones who like two years ago were abhorently against gays? Changing their views for $$ doesn't convince me they're run by decent human beings all of a sudden...
[–]pacfolly 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
I certainly appreciate that Target is featuring same-sex couples in their advertisements, however I do not see the fact that they are trying to market themselves to a segment of the population as heroic.
[–]MKSLAYER97 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
This really has nothing to do with atheism.
[–]AidanReddit 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Congratulations to Target for declaring itself as an atheist corporation!
Oh wait...
[–]TheG3cko 0 points1 point2 points 12 days ago
I really hate it how /r/atheism has become just a gay supportive community. If you want to support gays go to /r/gay/. Been an atheist doesn't equal to gay support. I understand that gays are been pressured by church and religion, but that doesn't mean that someone should support them because he/she is atheist... You should support them because of your morals, and because of the things you think are wrong/right. That is one of our biggest problems with religion, supporting or criticizing something based on your religion. So why should we do the same? I was an atheist(fanatic you could say) since 12 years old, but I never supported gay marriage, and I always thought that homosexuality should be kept in private. I don't want to watch it on my television, neither I want my kids to. But I don't say you shouldn't support it if you think it is right. I just say that you shouldn't involve religion(or the lack of it) into this. This should be clearly of what you think is right as a person, rather of what you think as a part in an atheist community...
[–]NoveltyRhyme 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
What does this have to do with atheism?
[–]TreTreTre 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
r/gaymarriage
[–]TargetTeamMember 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Believe you me, Target is, at it's leadership level, as fundamentalist and conservative as any other company. We just do a better job of keeping our mouths shut than others, especially after the donation to MN Forward a few years back. If a large share of the demo wasn't homosexual, this ad wouldn't be run.
[–]AHeartToHoldYou 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Hey man, thanks for pointing out how cool target is! I agree that it's awesome they're bold enough to post this ad in a world where they can be almost positive most people will have a problem with it. As a lesbian I'm proud that more big companies are showing some pride! My ony advice to you would be to post this in a different group. I'm sure you know that gay does not mean athiest in the same way that athiest does not mean gay. May I suggest that you continue to post images like this, but instead in the lgbt subreddit? Thanks again for sharing the love c: have a good night!
[–]DruePhoenix 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Aren't they still major contributors to the Republican Party?
[–]desenagrator 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
For one last fucking time, this has NOTHING to do with atheism. /r/lgbt is right there.
[–]koavf 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
Not about atheism.
[–]wellthatsalot 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
COMPANIES USING SOCIAL ISSUES LIKE GAY MARRIAGE TO GET MORE PEOPLE TO BUY SHIT IS NOT PROGRESS. Target gives a shit about profits, not about gay people.
[–]dirtythrowaway47 1 point2 points3 points 12 days ago
r/atheism
[–]tylerhampton00 4 points5 points6 points 13 days ago
This is getting ridiculous, these stores don't need to be taking stances.
[–]Otzlowe 6 points7 points8 points 13 days ago
This shit makes me happy.
I don't care that these companies are doing this stuff to appeal to consumers and make money; they're a business.
I don't care that this is posted on r/atheism; as far as I'm concerned, atheism and gay rights are movements for basic, equal rights for everyone.
These are visible steps forward at the end of the day. Enjoy them.
