You know, as a republican, I'd still be pretty tempted to accept Obama as my personal lord and savior. At least he exists.

[–]horse-pheathers 6 points7 points ago

You're a republican?

And you're willing to admit it in public? o.O

[–]drmagnanimous 1 point2 points ago

It's not too uncommon for conservatives to also be atheists, or at least nonreligious. I don't like this because neither of these people can replace Darth Vader as 'my personal savior' and the chosen one who sacrificed himself to restore order to a distant galaxy eons ago.

There's a huge difference between being a rational conservative and being a republican these days; it's become the party of reactionary anti-science wackaloons that seem intent on burning down centuries of social progress as rapidly as possible. The rational conservatives live among the democrats, who have taken over the moderate-conservative ground; compare policy under Obama to that under Reagan and while there are telling differences, they're nowhere near as huge as they should be. We currently have no viable liberal/progressive party in the US.

There are nonreligious republicans as well as religious GOPers; there are also nonreligious conservatives and religious conservatives. The problem is that Republicanism and conservatism have developed into the party of religiosity, a terrible force that earlier republicans feared and tried to prevent.

[–]horse-pheathers 1 point2 points ago

And what I'm saying is anyone rational who still claims the "Republican" label after that religious takeover must be doing so out of habit, because the wackaloons have irreversibly seized the helm. The party no longer supports conservative ideals, having become hyper-reactionary instead. The New Whigs and the Democrats are where rational conservatism is actually currently the best fit (Whigs are actually a solid fit but lack the numbers currently to be viable, while the Democrats are like a herd of cats pulling in a hundred different directions that average out to something moderately close to "Goldwater Conservatism").

Seriously, willfully tying yourself to the RNC these days is akin to announcing to the world you suffer from some kind of mental deficiency, and anyone who considers themselves otherwise rational should be ashamed of the attachment.

There's nothing wrong with being a republican. Believe me, there are some democratic candidates that are just as fucked up as republicans. It's just that most of the democrats actually accept facts like that the world has experienced a warming trend since the 1850s which we may be contributing to, and they accept evolution. And I'm definitely not hardcore republican. I do not doubt that I'll vote for a democratic candidate probably about as often as a republican candidate. I do tend to lean towards libertarian quite often, though.

TIL that Jesus is running for president. Also, being president of the United States of America means you are Lord. I feel so informed.

[–]khamul787 4 points5 points ago

Genius! I should make one that reads:

  • I am a Christian

  • I am intelligent

False dichotomies for the win.

[–]Direnaar 2 points3 points ago

With the way their mind is wired, they care more about faith than intelligence, so it would only work in an ironic way :/

[–]khamul787 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, but then at least we'd know where their priorities lie, and can avoid them.

[–]DillyG101 5 points6 points ago

I'm a conservative atheist, and I'd just like to apologize for the part of the right-wing that is disgustingly ignorant. Sorry

[–]MrKequc 1 point2 points ago

Don't worry, they are lending credibility to your point of view.

[–]Dirgon 5 points6 points ago

Free Speech fails hard when the citizenry are a bunch of uneducated douchebags. Fuck me I hate stupid.

[–]vocabulator9000 0 points1 point ago

If Romney becomes President. it will be enough evidence to the educated world, that America is lost. What is needed is a real republican who lives and breathes republican ideals. Romney is trying to win using sentiment and shrewdness, not Reason and Logic. I hope Romney fails, but I don't have any recommendations for who could legitimately replace him.
Ron Paul is a bit out there and too controversial to win, but disregarding his entire view is like throwing baby out with the bathwater. I just don't know, the rabid patriotism in the face of ever increasing poor direction from the President and politicians, and an encouraged religious taint in politics, has left many outside observers, losing hope for America. Sorry if that sucks to hear.

[–]Skoll552 1 point2 points ago

It's okay. Inside observers are losing hope for America, too.

[–]Bixit 8 points9 points ago

False dichotomy...

[–]rasputine 5 points6 points ago

You don't say.

[–]ChiisaiTenshi 0 points1 point ago

Don't worry, as a libertarian, I'm used to having to write in a third candidate....

[–]Dylan_the_Villain 4 points5 points ago

Where are you supposed to turn the completed survey to? I mean there are checkboxes...

[–]captpiggard 1 point2 points ago

"Shit. We'll just have to pray them back to us."

[–]meatflower 1 point2 points ago

jesus-tap-dancing-christ.

[–]kingkobeda 1 point2 points ago

Give it a few years, and this is what the voting slips will be like in the US.

[–]Wiiboy95 1 point2 points ago

Because all liberals worhip Obama as a god...

[–]parapoxical 1 point2 points ago

So yeah... If I don't choose Obama does that make Mitt Romney my Lord and Savior? Or is my only choice not to vote to remain an atheist??

[–]CrudOMatic 1 point2 points ago

I reject Jesus Christ, and choose for you to choke on a dick. See? There is more than two choices.

[–]CantHugEveryCat 1 point2 points ago

Dear Christian morons. Please vote for Jesus.

[–]oLynxXo 1 point2 points ago

So glad I don't live in the States. Why would I accept any of these guys as my lord and saviour. They aren't even timelords. shakes head

[–]starve2act 1 point2 points ago

I'd vote for 4, 5, 9 or 10.

[–]florencemorph 1 point2 points ago

I just love how quick anti-Obama people are to throw "Hussein" about. "HEY! HEY! His middle name is Hussein! HUSSEIN! Nothing good can come from that!"

[–]jelloba 1 point2 points ago

It's so cute how conservatives like to include Barack's middle name, "Hussein," as if that's some kind of affirmation that he is evil.

[–]GuyMumbles 1 point2 points ago

Bit doesn't Hebrews 13:17 tell Christians to submit to their worldly leaders? Talk about the big book of multiple choice.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I take it OP lives in the Bible belt?

[–]TrustiestMuffin 0 points1 point ago

And/or has a Barack Obama sticker on his car.

[–]richy5497 0 points1 point ago

Ooh, ooh, ooh...I choose the one who exists!

[–]Fudgcicle 0 points1 point ago

I accept barrack as my lord and savior.

[–]aquietmidnightaffair 0 points1 point ago

Well, we could argue about the transfer of power from lords and kings, in a kingdom, to presidents and congress in a republic.

[–]Youscurvydawg 0 points1 point ago

Make your own flyers! With blackjack and hookers! That's actually not a bad idea, I might make some atheist flyers and put them on cars while everyone is distracted by some paedophile spouting wicked lies. That'll show 'em.

[–]Clay_Statue 0 points1 point ago

I'm really glad I live in Canada. Our religious nuts aren't quite so visible and prolific so they cannot bother the rest of us with their nonsense.

[–]horse-pheathers 0 points1 point ago

That's some weapons-grade derp right there; I'd call in a hazmat team for its disposal....

[–]kinyutaka 0 points1 point ago

How about, "I reject both Barack Obama AND Jesus Christ, and accept the only person that can be my Savior, myself"

[–]inpu 0 points1 point ago

Bat. Shit. Crazy.

[–]needlestack 0 points1 point ago

Somebody went full retard.

[–]Cloudbunny 0 points1 point ago

BLASPHEMY!

Only the Flying Spaghetthi Monster can save us with his noodly appendage!

[–]Menace117 0 points1 point ago

So, Obama's a deity now? Were all politicians deities?

[–]starve2act 0 points1 point ago

[–]Menace117 1 point2 points ago

So is Obama a Roman reincarnated then? God, religion is so confusing :/

[–]Sanaadi 0 points1 point ago

I love how they just gotta throw that "Hussein" in. The religious right cannot get enough of that.

[–]verveinloveland -1 points0 points ago

as an atheist, I reject Jesus Christ, and I also reject Obama. I also reject Romney...everyone knows Ron Paul is the one true God
