    I didn't know. I was born and raised in Illinois, and lived here all 22 years of my life...not really venturing too far from here. I didn't know that open or concealed were legal in the states until like six months ago. I had always thought every state was like Illinois. Glad to see that they aren't...but at the same time, not so glad..

    Nerf is influencing our children to buy ultra-high cap magazines, and bullet shields. BULLET SHIELDS! How are our brave officers supposed to fight against that?

    I just found out that my local city ordinance prohibiting the discharge of firearms within city limits... includes airsoft guns... and I suspect nerf guns as well. hrmm....

    It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any firearm, gun, rifle, or other gun or device discharging, by the use of powder, air, or springs, any bullet or shot of any kind or any sling or slingshot in the city, except in shooting galleries and on pistol and rifle ranges, the location of which has been approved by the city; provided, however, that this section shall not apply to police officers acting within the scope of their official duties or to persons acting in the necessary defense of their persons or property.

    Not really. As far as I know the 'licence' requires no background check or anything. It's just to make sure people buying airsoft actually do airsoft.

    Replica firearms, they're really strict over here. If I got seen with that I'd be guaranteed to have a visit from an Armed Response Unit.

    Not so much registered, just 'licenced' to buy them... Our airsofting sites have 'self-regulation' via UKARA to do this. If you have two matches a month and get it signed off you can get the paperwork if you don't then you can get dual tone weapons only.

    That'll happen. If you've got your paperwork just put down your weapon and show them the paperwork. They'll probably call it in, take names etc...

    Best thing I do if I'm going out somewhere to have a laugh with rifles is I let whoever is around know and I'll let the local police know that I'll be there as well, just a quick "Hi, I'm at location x with <number of people> with permission from the landholder doing airsoft, just incase you guys get any calls about it." Done it a few times before I moved and it was all gravy.

    Not at all, you can buy a dual-tone RIF (Replica/Imitation Firearm) at 18 and a .22 at 18. However to buy a replica firearm in original colours (or to paint a two-tone) you must be part of an airsofting site.

    Everyone calls it the nanny state, makes me laugh really.

      Apologies.

      Basically an airsoft weapon is classified in the UK as a Replica Firearm. They're basically licensed to certain places (say like movie studio's?) but because of the power on an airsoft weapon they didn't fall under the "can't own" and "usage on private property" kind of parts of said laws. (They're to do with Violent Crime Act's).

      So basically the Airsoft community self-regulates itself with something abbreviated at UKARA. If you play at two matches within a month you can apply and get the paperwork to buy a replica fire-arm. If you don't then the RIF HAS to be dual-tone - at that point it is illegal to paint it a single colour.

      You can buy them at 18 easily though.

      Words to that effect.

      Providing you've got a solid brick wall to bolt a cabinet/ safe to, a reasonable criminal record, and a reason for owning (as in, you belong to a shooting club) you can buy shotguns easily, .22 rimfire rifles, and single shot rifles.

      (also, we can have supressed shotguns, unlike the yanks.)

        Not sure if your aware but there is a large community of people that spend their time upgrading nerf guns. The most popular things are the vulcan and sniper rifle. Everyone likes to put a high powered spring in them and a much better motor in the vulcan. Ive seen someone machine aluminum internals for the nstrike sniper rifle and replace the stock spring with something that puts out like 300 fps on the nerf dart. The spring is so strong that he didnt have a choice but to fabricate replacement internals to keep the mechanism from shattering under the spring pressure.

        It's a fair observation. I've always wanted firearms laws sorted over here to a degree, but I don't like the U.S. way of doing things with their laws. Not a big fan of "You have a right to arm bears bare arms" if I'm honest.

        Serious question: As a Brit, how does that make you feel? as Americans I know many of us feel a sense of sadness for our UK friends when news story after news story reminds us that you are mostly unarmed, at the mercy of your criminal element, and subject to arrest and incarceration should you attempt to defend yourselves.

        The full turn of common law enabling the free Englishman the right to protect his home and family, has ended up in a society where only the criminals seem to be free.

        It is kind of unfortunate that such defense is limited to those who may physically do so. What about an elderly lady, or a man in a wheel chair, how are they supposed to defend against an intruder if they are prevented access to firearms?

        It isn't right. But like I've always said... you break into my home or try and jump me and you're going to be dead pretty quickly. Good luck arresting me without causing quite a lot of collateral damage for what I perceive as an unlawful arrest (I'm not a little guy).

        EITHER WAY. I do despise the fact I can't have firearms to either defend myself from criminal elements or just to take them down a range and blow off some steam. Drives me nuts. However I have discovered I can do the later part of my statement... so that's my next research assisgnment.

          My son has a bow like the one next to the G36. It's one of his favorite toys. To be honest, I nearly got myself one, too. It's a helluva lot of fun to shoot.

          I have that shotgun but its a side by side barrel. Its cool because it ejects the "shells" that the nerf bullets fit into. Bought it when i was 19 haha.

          Dude those offbranders are how its done. I had nerf all as a kid and they sucked, and costed like 50 bucks for a gun. One day last year a friend and i spent $20 total to get a couple guns and some ammo and just had fun with it. No regrets
