Pretty good control from the driver. Bitch would be dead if it were me.

[–]flashbck 211 points212 points ago

It looks like the vehicle is an ambulance. This is probably the only reason that the woman is alive. Those ambulance drivers are straight up bad asses.

[–]crazygopher5 148 points149 points ago

As an EMT/ambulance driver, thank you!

[–]flashbck 97 points98 points ago

As a person who had to ride in an ambulance once, thank you!

As a person who has seen an ambulance driving, thank you!

As an ambulance, I feel nothing.

That commercial would be perfect if the chick said cum. And then she got paid in cum. All over her face.

You're hired, welcome to the world of marketing.

There's a skittles commercial that plays out along those lines...

[–]workpuppy 9 points10 points ago

How convenient to be hit by an ambulance. There would be zero wait.

[–]LtCthulhu 3 points4 points ago

"What about the gun shot victim?"

"Ahh shit you're right...we'll come back for this one"

[–]420falilv 2 points3 points ago

And the beautiful irony of it.

[–]Cutsprocket 12 points13 points ago

I guess they would have to be since in an emergency they have to drive like its a game of GTA

[–]slanky06 17 points18 points ago

So they drive down the sidewalk mowing people down, with 2 strippers in the back, completely space out drunk? That's how my games of GTA generally go anyway.

[–]Cutsprocket 6 points7 points ago

sure why not

I almost killed a woman one day a month or so ago when she walked out like that without looking from behind a bus that was parked on the side of the street.. the kicker.. she was carrying a fucking baby..

[–]donkeyrocket 53 points54 points ago

I never understood the people with children in strollers who wait at an intersection and insist on waiting like they don't have a stoller, thus putting the kid in the lane. I always cringe thinking I'm about to see a car run through it like a watermelon stand.

[–]scooterboo2 5 points6 points ago

My cabbages!

[–]tohuw 14 points15 points ago

What was the baby fu... you know what, never mind, I'll just see myself out.

[–]mrpopenfresh 1 point2 points ago

Yeah that's a huge problem, people who cross in front of the bus when they get off, especially at transit hubs and whatnot. There's a reason school buses have that 2 metre long thing in front of it.

[–]Raneados 0 points1 point ago

I should be allowed to chase down and break the legs of people that cross the street in front of the bus after I let them off.

I have to hurt them to save them.

[–]BasicDesignAdvice -1 points0 points ago

i am actually suspecting this woman may be pregnant actually. she is doing the pregnant lady "waddle" a little bit.

[–]LtCthulhu 2 points3 points ago

No, just fat.

[–]SecretSnack 51 points52 points ago

If natural selection exists in any sector of modern life, it's in traffic. She got lucky this time but you don't stay get lucky forever.

[–]Fig1024 25 points26 points ago

it's interesting how wild animals are starting to evolve. I frequently see coyote run about the suburbs, usually at night. But this one time it was in middle of the day, this coyote was running toward the road, stopped at the edge, looked both ways for cars, then crossed the road.

[–]S_Cheeks 11 points12 points ago

One time when I was leaving for work, about 6:45 am so the streets were fairly empty, I witnessed the strangest squirrel-street-crossing (yea I didn't know how to phrase that). Three squirrels were in the street ahead of me. The first looked both ways and I was far enough away so he ran. The second looked at me but did not run. The third began to run and the second extended his arm to stop him. I had slowed so it was on of those awkward 'pedestrian waits for the car to go while the car waits for the pedestrian to go' situations. They waited for me to pass then I saw them cross in my rear view mirror. I've realized that Central Illinois squirrels are much more advanced than Chicago squirrels.

[–]KaziArmada 2 points3 points ago

Go out someplace like Woodstock. The animals out there don't know what the fuck.

[–]Nautilis 1 point2 points ago

I was driving to work once and saw a dead deer surrounded by packing peanuts on the side of the road. It took me a bit to figure out it probably wasn't a fake deer.

[–]Flamo_the_Idiot_Boy 0 points1 point ago

I was driving to work and saw a fox on the road once. It was squashed to shit and completely fucking dead, but still...

[–]Keets 0 points1 point ago

Here they climb up the hydro lines and use them to cross the streets.

[–]Clunkk 7 points8 points ago

That's incredible. Whenever I see a coyote around my neighborhood I can't help but feel really bad for them.

[–]LtCthulhu 1 point2 points ago

I swear that squirrels in my town know how to cross the street. I seen't it with my own eyes!

[–]Mulltown 35 points36 points ago

after she almost gets hit she doesnt even look again to see if a car is coming.

[–]Albaek 40 points41 points ago

I know it's terrible, but sometimes I think that someone crossing a street like that deserves to be run down. Just the foot or a leg to be run over, she'd likely learn by it ... ... Terrible thought, I know.

[–]podium 37 points38 points ago

Look at the upper left corner, theres a european crosswalking sign...

[–]Albaek 7 points8 points ago

I didn't even notice that. Man, that completely changes everything. The first truck stops for her (I initially thought it was just going to stop), the other truck just rams through like he owns the road.

Isn't there supposed to be stripes though when there's a crosswalk? Or is that just something we do in Denmark? And why is there a crosswalk instead of some traffic lights on a double-tracked road? That's so inconvenient.

Come to think of it.. I'm probably asking the wrong guy here. Thanks for pointing it out though.

[–]entalong 11 points12 points ago

That changes nothing. She still walked out into traffic without looking.

She also walked through a blind spot into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

This was 100% her fault. You can't just walk into oncoming traffic from a blind spot and expect everyone to stop for you.

[–]Kossu 3 points4 points ago

In most European countries if there is a stopped vehicle in front of a crosswalk that is closer than 5 meters, all vehicles on ALL lanes have to come to a complete stop before the crosswalk to ensure nobody is coming from behind a blind spot. So even if that woman wasn't there at all, the ambulance had to come to a complete stop. This was 100% the ambulance's fault.

[–]2mnyzs 5 points6 points ago

I don't see a crosswalk.

[–]2mnyzs 0 points1 point ago

In that case you're right about it being the ambulance's fault but the really should add lines to the road or something to help drivers who don't notice the sign.

[–]Wilcows -1 points0 points ago

So what? The sign doesn't mean shit, it's just there to tell you there should be a crosswalk somewhere, if it isn't there you don't have to stop.

[–]Kossu 0 points1 point ago

The way the sign points is where the crosswalk is. The lack of stripes to actually mark the crosswalk is very common in countries formed after the fall of the Soviet union, which I imagine this gif is from. Imagine if there was snow then you couldn't see the stripes which is why they have bothered putting a sign up.

[–]Wilcows 0 points1 point ago

Fair enough

[–]entalong 1 point2 points ago

I certainly cannot argue given my specific lack of European driving law, if it is truly as you state.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't actually see a marked crosswalk.

Also did you notice the woman was actually looking the other way? That's almost willful recklessness...

[–]sirin32 0 points1 point ago

it's in Russia. stop signs don't exist there and the crossing isn't painted. people there are usually used to watching the road really carefully before crossing since the cars never slow down. i personally have never seen such careless crossing in Russia.

[–]MisterWonka 0 points1 point ago

She's crossing the street in a crosswalk. And yet, it's 100% her fault?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]amnotforcocoa 16 points17 points ago

Just because you have the right of way doesn't mean you can be careless.

Imagine you're at a traffic light. Do you gun it as soon as it turns green, or do you wait to make sure no one's going to run through a red light?

A pedestrian crosswalk is not a magical place where you can't get hit by a car.

[–]khorve 1 point2 points ago

I can confirm this, I am a pedestrian crosswalk and I am thoroughly mundane.

[–]amnotforcocoa 0 points1 point ago

It's ok, a lot of people aren't magical crosswalks. I would know.

[–]rasherdk -1 points0 points ago

That doesn't change the fact that the car is 100% at fault - not the pedestrian, which is what the GP was saying. No one's saying (that I can see), that you shouldn't check for asshats before crossing, but it's never the pedestrian's fault.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]amnotforcocoa 3 points4 points ago

Probably because you have a confirmation bias?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]amnotforcocoa 1 point2 points ago

Completely blind people would probably hear a car coming at them quickly. Partially blind people could still see a quickly moving blob that doesn't look quite right.

Good luck with your kids that never learn to look both ways before crossing a street.

[–]efftwo 5 points6 points ago

Coming from someone who lives in a town where every street is set up pretty much exactly like this .gif, the fault rests squarely on the idiot in the right lane who tried to be a nice guy and stop for her. I see people do that for pedestrians here all the time because it's a university town and people think the students are somehow more entitled to the right of way than every other citizen. Asshole in the right lane stops for a stupid reason, pedestrian thinks everybody is stopping because they can't see around asshole, and then the next guy to come along in the left lane hits the pedestrian that he couldn't see until the last second because of asshole. I've lived here two years and this exact situation has probably happened to me at least 2 dozen times now. I haven't hit anyone yet, but our town has a pretty large number of students that get hit by cars because drivers give them far too much leeway to just walk out into the street whenever they feel like it. Some kid got hit by a bus at 30mph and died just a few months ago.

tl;dr - This near-miss is all totally the right-lane-asshole's fault, and the moral of the story is don't be too nice to pedestrians because it just fucks up expected traffic patterns and causes shitloads of accidents.

[–]podium 5 points6 points ago

I agree, the crosswalk does´nt seem to be well thought of.. :) just jerked the hell out of me to see the woman get so much hate in comments for walking where there seems to be a crossroad.:) There should be some stripes or a traffic light there, but this intesection looks to have gotten the short end of the stick.. Glad it ended good though =)

[–]WolchBot 8 points9 points ago

Regardless of whether traffic laws dictate that cars should stop for her she should still use common sense and not walk in front of moving traffic. In the battle between man and car, the car wins every time.

The driver is at fault too but you are responsible for your own safety.

[–]Avalon81204 0 points1 point ago

Its an ambulance.

[–]Albaek -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, and if you jump off the 11th floor of a hospital you'll only get scrapes.

[–]Avalon81204 6 points7 points ago

Im just saying the law does not dictate an ambulance to yield right of way to a pedestrian.

[–]killedyourcat[!] 3 points4 points ago

Isn't that only when the lights are flashing or does that not really matter? Regardless, the chick should have been watching both ways. A little common sense would say that there could be a driver unaware of my intention to walk across the street, maybe I should look before walking out.

[–]Razer1103 0 points1 point ago

You'd think the lights would have to be flashing and the sirens blaring for them to be driving that recklessly. The lights obviously weren't on, and the cars on the other side of the road weren't stopping, so clearly the siren wasn't on either.

[–]Albaek 0 points1 point ago

Oh. I misunderstood that one. Sorry.

[–]deadlybydsgn 1 point2 points ago

Maybe you guys should paint lines on the road or something. :p

[–]akumadiavolo 1 point2 points ago

I think that sign is for the other direction though, not the way she was crossing. It's facing the wrong way the road isn't marked and it's only on one side and not the other.

[–]podium 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I thought so to for a little while and you are probably right. I just found it odd that there is a house in the background and a heavy trafficated road doesn´t make much sense on that side. (but for all i know that road might turn right before house), but the fact that the car who is videotaping has come to a full halt (with what seems to be some sort of one way street?) is what I find peculiar. Either way I agree that she should be more careful or she might end up on darwin awards :)

[–]EtwasNameGehaben 0 points1 point ago

This changes everything!

[–]EpicFishFingers 0 points1 point ago

Yeah but still, if there was busy traffic like that, would you walk out in front of it and hope that everyone follows the rules? Or can even stop in time (in the case of the ambulance, just barely?)

Like most people I like living, so tent to take the extra 10 seconds to see when is best to cross. The woman in the vid will have her luck run out awfully quick soon. Either that or she'll be so shook up by that near-miss that she'll be more careful in the future. I hope for the latter.

[–]PenisFlyTrap 0 points1 point ago

Doesn't stop the fact that she should have looked...

[–]Bluefreakbob 6 points7 points ago

Anybody else think she was gonna pop the door open and jump in?

[–]angrylawyer 4 points5 points ago

At my school people would always cross the street while not looking at cars. I witnessed this phenomenon both as a pedestrian and as a driver. The only thing I could come up with is that if people were on their phone or looking at the ground and they walk in front of traffic the driver can't call them an asshole, because he was just looking at his phone and not paying attention instead of activly throwing themselves in front of cars they knew where coming.

Anyway, one day I'm on the side walk and I'm watching a kid stare at his screen and jay walk across the street in front of me, a car is passing me and the driver is paying attention to his phone (presumably) also. In that moment I knew I was about to witness somebody get killed, but right then the driver looks up and slams on the brakes causing some tire noise which terrifies the jay walker. He certainally paid attention for the second half of his jay walking adventure.

[–]munchbard 5 points6 points ago

I'm pretty sure no one knows how to cross the street anymore. You are on the lookout for kids, sure, but it is the grownups you have to worry about. Almost smoked a dude walking down the side of the street, then without looking, did a 90 degree turn and started walking into traffic.

The worst however, are the people who don't wait for traffic to stop at a crosswalk. If they are far enough away, by all means start walking. The drivers will see you and stop. But if there is steady traffic, WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE STOPS!

[–]mont94 0 points1 point ago

the random roving gangs of kids are worse. in my town, the will walk taking up the whole road. side walks are for bikes now.

[–]LuperFlipino 2 points3 points ago

I love how shes looking at the opposite direction that lane is going from.

[–]Synikull 1 point2 points ago

I have seen something like this happen before. Not this dramatic, but scary as fuck nonetheless.

I can't recall what I was doing, just that I watched this homeless-looking man walk up to a crosswalk at a 5 lane highway going through town. He stopped and looked around like he was disoriented. I'm actually about 90% sure he was on some sort of drug by the way he walked. He looked at the one car waiting for the light to turn green and suddenly decided that he was going to walk across that road.

There's a small truck with a large trailer on it (think U-Haul) coming up in the next lane over. Behind that in just the right position is another car. Just before he steps off the light turns green and the car starts moving forward. The car slams on its breaks and doesn't hit him. At this point my dad stops his phone conversation and says "I'm gonna have to go, I think I'm just about to see someone die." The truck was going to keep going through the light, now green, but slams on its breaks and comes to a loud, screeching stop less than a foot from him. The car in the next lane over is going about the same speed but can't see the guy due to the truck beside it. The driver finally sees him and slams on the break and comes to a stop inches from the guy. The guy stops and studies the car for a minute, then keeps ambling across the road. It was one of the most surreal things I've ever seen.

"No, no, I'm still here. I just watched some dumbshit walk across the highway in traffic. No, he's fine."

[–]amishzombie 1 point2 points ago

She was just really preoccupied, that's all. She's on her way back from the grocery store, where they clearly were all out of fucks.

[–]gcatlin 1 point2 points ago

That is actually a really good reaction and accident avoidance by the driver of the van.

[–]Iamforserious 1 point2 points ago

Lady needs to wiki Darwin and be amazed at her age.

[–]Killfuck_Soulshitter 1 point2 points ago

You just said "fuck you" to so many college students.

[–]amtran 1 point2 points ago

One piece of advice my parents gave me when crossing a busy street is this: make eye contact with the driver. That way you're aware of your surroundings, you know the driver sees you, and that they are capable of reacting.

I use this technique at crosswalks all the time when I see a douche-y driver that isn't slowing down, I keep walking, I maintain eye contact, basically telling them "screw you, I have the right of way, you better be slowing down soon mofo." I don't think my parents ever intended me to be an aggressive pedestrian who would try to stare down people driving massive motor vehicles of death, but I've learned it's the best way to get a shitty pedestrian-hater to actually slow down and stop.

[–]Mrsoulofrock 1 point2 points ago

Look both ways before crossing the- fuck it..

[–]fubes2000 5 points6 points ago

Cross the street like what? In a crosswalk? Walking?

If anything the dipshit driving the ambulance past another vehicle stopped at a marked crosswalk should be the one getting a "fuck you".

[–]MrPeoples 5 points6 points ago

What crosswalk?

[–]areux 16 points17 points ago

There seems to be a crosswalk sign on the far left of the screen

[–]phreeck 0 points1 point ago

To me the truck looked like he was parking at the sidewalk.

[–]scumbag-reddit 1 point2 points ago

I was hoping for the side swipe.

[–]Yankee_Gunner 1 point2 points ago

The driver of the ambulance is the asshole here. Another vehicle stopped at a marked crosswalk is usually a sign that someone is crossing. Unless they have someone in the back and the sirens blasting, but even in that situation you are still supposed to consider the safety of others around you and the possibility that they don't see/hear you.

Granted the lady should have still looked, but the ambulance has no business blowing through at that speed.

[–]KRAT0SXx 1 point2 points ago

How is that a marked crosswalk. There are no signs and no street lines.

[–]Yankee_Gunner 1 point2 points ago

It's from outside the US. The white triangle in the blue square on the left of the screen marks the crosswalk.

I know there isn't anything on the road, but that is a normal sign in Europe.

(I think it's Denmark?)

[–]KRAT0SXx 2 points3 points ago

I suppose I'm not familiar with other countries' street signs. Learning something everyday.

[–]onlythis 0 points1 point ago

Always look both ways before crossing the street.

[–]monstereddit 0 points1 point ago

Surprise brake test!

[–]nasp30 0 points1 point ago

one thing is for sure, had she been hit, help would have arrived pretty quick

[–]youre_a_tard 0 points1 point ago

The first truck had its turn signal on. Ambulance probably thought he was slowing to turn, not stopping for a pedestrian.

[–]BecauseTacos 0 points1 point ago

Pretty standard intersection in Philly. This type of thing happens 2 or 3 times on a 2.5 mile trek through town.

[–]uncle_jessie 0 points1 point ago

[–]pavlo850 0 points1 point ago

This is in Ukraine guys. I used to live there and thats what ambulances look like. Either that or Russia

[–]wggn 0 points1 point ago

If you (try to) drive across a pedestrian crossing at that speed while seeing a truck stop in front of you, then fuck you :P

[–]pearlyblueclouds 0 points1 point ago

WHAT A DICK!

[–]drewniverse 0 points1 point ago

With all things considered, if I ever were to be hit by a vehicle I'd hope it to be an ambulance.

[–]Murdacai 0 points1 point ago

Don't worry, she's probably dead. Doing this more than once isn't a good idea, and I'm sure she has by now.

[–]Dumpykins 0 points1 point ago

And she just walks away like it was no big deal.

[–]soggysocks 0 points1 point ago

Well...I can't see her being completely being in the wrong she is in a cross walk and you should never blow passed another vehicle that's stopped in at a crosswalk.

Regardless when you're stepping onto the road you don't assume everyone has seen you and is going to stop....

[–]phreeck 0 points1 point ago

Especially since the truck is almost on the sidewalk instead of being further in the road so he actually occupied the lane so he looks like he's stopping to park.

[–]arowls 0 points1 point ago

Don't go to Boston. Pedestrians think they own the streets!

[–]extreme123000 1 point2 points ago

[–]rubberlikewalrus -1 points0 points ago

[–]uhmerikin -1 points0 points ago

I believe that bitch owes that driver the "Wave of Gratitude".

[–]CheckThsDude -1 points0 points ago

welcome to morgantown

[–]Serrated_Banana -1 points0 points ago

I see people bitching that this is the ambulance's fault because it's a crosswalk. How, may I ask, was that pedestrian ever in sight of the ambulance. The stopping van could have been stopping for anything and fully blocks the woman standing there from the rest of traffic. Not only that but the opposite direction moving vehicles don't even slow down. She walked into a blind spot, sure a cross walk, but still a shitty horrible system of a crosswalk and assumed the magic crosswalk fairy was going to keep her safe.

[–]why_Charizard_why -2 points-1 points ago
