Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

As much as I am in favor of equal rights for lgbt in every way, I find myself more and more annoyed by the way every other company tries to profit from this. The first couple ones who did it really did so because they believed in their cause and they were the pioneers. And being a brave pioneer in any matter is rather god. But this train is slowly leaving the station, so the more companies do it, the less it is a real statement rather than a simple marketing measure. They saw how well other companies that really fight for equal rights did and now they want a piece of the cake themselves.

Just feels kind of wrong in some cases.

Speaking as a gay guy, 9 times out of 10, I find it obnoxious when companies or even people open their mouths about gay rights. It's become painfully obvious to me that no one has any idea how to form their own opinions on a subject, it's entirely influenced by society and what's currently trendy.

A few years ago it was awesome to call people fags and beat the shit out of them in school for being gay. Some celebrities starting making videos saying not to do that. Suddenly everyone's attacking chic-fil-a for being homophobic and talking about how totally cool with gays they are as much as possible.

I've learned that most people are just selfish and really don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. If it were cool to hate on gays these same people and companies who are so pro-gay would be gay bashing like crazy in an attempt to seem cool and hip.

Gay rights have gone from being an important human rights issue to nothing more than a cultural fad similar to Justin Bieber or Uggs. People say they support it to seem cool and hip while having absolutely no knowledge whatsoever about gay rights. If you ask them about the Stonewall riots or Harvey Milk they won't know what the fuck you're talking about but they'll gladly wear a snazzy little tee shirt with a catchy pro-gay slogan on it to show how hip and open-minded they are.

Progress for the sake of profit is the most effective kind of progress ever.

Look at Washington. Microsoft called for gay marriage, and it happened in like a week.

It may be effective but I just feel like it cheapens the gay rights movement and turns a human rights issue into a trendy pop culture fad.

But the whole Microsoft thing is a good case of profit causing progress, so I suppose there's two sides to the coin.

Not to anti-gay candidates no. They gave money to The Minnesota Forward PAC. The PAC then used almost all their donations to support Tom Emmer in his campaign for governor of Minnesota. Emmer is a lot of things in addition to being anti-gay.

Emmer supports:

  • Pharmacy conscience clauses, that allow pharmacists to deny birth control.
  • Giving MN the power to nullify federal laws.
  • Eliminating minimum wages.
  • Allowing employers to deduct tips from employee wages.
  • Stopping a ban on children's products containing BPA.

I think it was even more than that. They gave a lot, like 100k. Then all the queer rights organizations gave a collective WTF and threatened a boycot. Target gave a "we are so sorry we will never do it again". People said, ok, we did kinda like you stopped firing employees for being gay and actually kinda respected them a bit. Then Target went back and gave even more.

I know a lot of people who think Target is pro gay rights. They aren't, we are just a market. I haven't shopped there since 2010 because of this shit and short of Target giving 1 million to ensure marriage equality in Minnesota (which I believe is on the ballot this year, hint hint) I won't be going back ever.

Also I think they pay their employees worse than Walmart. [needs citation but I also need to go to work...]

I was thinking about the gays yesterday. For me it boiled down to, have you ever been on a date with someone, or laying down with someone watching a movie or anything like that and just realized you're happy with someone? How the fuck can someone try and deny that feeling and say it's wrong to someone on the basis of them being gay. Fuck those people, seriously.

How come gays (as opposed to lesbians) dominate the media for homosexuality? Even if you do a google search for "homosexual"... you're going to get all men.

OK- to everyone bitching "ENOUGH WITH THE GAY STUFF" blah blah blah. Most of you I'm guessing have the luxury of living in a place that is progressive and tolerant with this stuff. I don't.
