"My precioussssssssss"

[–]FatBaldGuy60 0 points1 point ago

Exactly what I first thought.

[–]CAPSLOCKFTW 8 points9 points ago

people actually have the same amount of hair follicles of as most chimps

[–]Engineer_daddy91 7 points8 points ago

I didn't come from no damn monkey! I was made from dirt!

[–]Hevendor[S] 3 points4 points ago

I should've put this image next to a picture of some dirt for a side-by-side comparison. LOL!

[–]Engineer_daddy91 7 points8 points ago

ANd my wife came from a rib! Damn atheists and their satan science!

[–]rhymesmith 3 points4 points ago

Are you sure this isn't Iggy Pop?

[–]Helen_A_Handbasket 7 points8 points ago

That's a scary looking penis.

[–]KaJashey 3 points4 points ago

That is a female with a scary looking clitoris. Speciation in primates makes the genitals look totally unappealing between species.

Male chimps are even -more- muscled. If things go wrong they are all willing to bite your fingers, face, and dick off and they are strong enough to pull your arms off. Plus they have four hands to hold you down.

[–]jjjmills 1 point2 points ago

I have had this picture as a desktop background option for years and never realized that the pink spike was a CLITORIS.

MIND=BLOWN

What. The. Fuck. You mean that's Chyna of chimps?

[–]deusnefum -1 points0 points ago

Yeah... that's something a lot of people don't realize. A chimp is basically a 3-year-old human with the strength of an adult and none of the human-socialization norms or mores.

[–]Shebopalop 4 points5 points ago

I only downvoted because a chimp is much, much stronger than an adult human.

[–]WhoMouse 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't say "scary"...just extremely odd. Like a pink floppy carrot.

[–]dirty15 0 points1 point ago

Haha my thoughts exactlly

[–]thousandbears 1 point2 points ago

I am having a hard time understanding your tag line. Like, i hope you don't think we evolved from chimps just because this particular one is hairless. Our direct ancestor isn't a chimp. and this mutation of being hairless can only trigger evolution if it is advantageous and the other chimps want that hairless chimp and other hairless chimps (or at least ones that carry the gene) continue to mate. so when you post about human evolution it would be better evidence to show - - i dunno - - humans? but this is a fine example of genetic mutation in chimps that could lead to a new hairless species. well done.

[–]GentlemanREX 1 point2 points ago

I don't think that's evolution...

[–]ColdShoulder -2 points-1 points ago

Technically everything biological is evolution. Could you expound on your point?

[–]GentlemanREX 0 points1 point ago

I think that the picture is hinting that the chimp is becoming more human rather than just diverging from his species genetic "norms".

[–]ColdShoulder 2 points3 points ago

Ahh, I read it differently. I read it more as, "Look how similar we are. Clearly we are closely related cousins that come from a relatively recent common ancestor."

Edit: Forgot a word.

[–]GentlemanREX 0 points1 point ago

you could say that about a lot of mammals.

[–]ColdShoulder 0 points1 point ago

Well, technically we could say it about all animals, but the point is that we can see just how similar chimps and humans are, and that we are more similar to chimps than to other mammals that are more distant relatives. In fact, there is an entire academic discipline dedicated to doing just that (taxonomy).

[–]GentlemanREX 0 points1 point ago

I'm just referring to organ structures etc.

[–]ColdShoulder 0 points1 point ago

I don't follow. The reason we can say that about a lot of mammals is because of our relation to mammals and their relation to one another.

[–]GentlemanREX 0 points1 point ago

right. through common ancestors, not a straight line of change.

[–]Fleshgod 0 points1 point ago

The chimp is becoming more human.

That's evolution... It's just another word for change over time.

[–]GentlemanREX 0 points1 point ago

but the chimp wouldn't become more human, the chimp's offspring would become another (whole new) species over several (hundred) isolated generations.

[–]Deaden 3 points4 points ago

Physical appearance doesn't always have a whole lot of relevance to evolution, as far as I'm aware. Take dogs for example. All the same species, dramatically different physical forms across breeds.

[–]Brohanwashere 3 points4 points ago

But that is because they were bred specifically for their appearance, over a very short period of time.

[–]WhoMouse 0 points1 point ago

But dog breeds are a case of Artificial Selection, not Natural Selection (Evolution).

I agree that physical appearance may not always be a reflection of how closely to species are related, but dogs are a really bad example of evolution. Well, aside from convincing those who think everything living was created exactly as it is today that they are wrong.

However, physical appearance is often closely related to their niche in the world. And often, closely related animals have closely related niches. So it's not exactly wrong to assume that similar physical appearances means closer relations, at least until you can test it.

[–]Nickelback_Cage 4 points5 points ago

Just a small correction; artificial selection is just as much evolution as natural selection.

[–]WhoMouse 2 points3 points ago

True, in the sense of "genetic change over time". But when people are talking about evolution, they're usually talking about natural selection ("Darwinism"), at least in my experience.

The second is what I took the OC to mean, but it's entirely possible they didn't mean it that way. In either case, thanks for pointing that out!

[–]Imtakingadump 1 point2 points ago

Looks kinda like Pat Robertson.

[–]Momordicas 0 points1 point ago

Damn, for another species we look a lot alike.

[–]bshwhr 0 points1 point ago

Who shaved the chimp? Was it solely for the purpose of showing that they are so similar to us? Or is there some kind of hidden motive?

[–]Hevendor[S] 0 points1 point ago

The site I got it from said it just lost its hair. Should be bad genetics.

[–]SuperSaiyanVigoda 0 points1 point ago

I would suspect that Chimps can often suffer from the same kinds of conditions that we suffer from. Alopecia can actually cause entire body hair loss in people.

See Stan Sitwell from Arrested Development for more.

[–]bloodyabortiondouche 0 points1 point ago

Someone had sex with that chimp's mother.

[–]Sk8r115 0 points1 point ago

Chimp form of 'The Thinker'

[–]RandomizedKam 0 points1 point ago

um. i know that evolution is real.. however.. it looks like a hairless chimpanzee. suprising. is that the reaction we were going for?

[–]PopfulMale -1 points0 points ago

it looks disturbingly human; but with some proportions a bit off, and a smushed face.

[–]axhed 1 point2 points ago

it looks less human than a hairful chimp.

[–]RandomizedKam 1 point2 points ago

maybe my prob is that the similarities between human and chimp are already pretty obvious to me.. so this just looks like a chimp. also, we didn't evolve from chimps, we are related by an ancestor.

[–]Brohanwashere -1 points0 points ago

I don't exactly think that these are our closest relatives, some evidence (journal article?, reputable source?) would be nice, but I kinda want him/her to put some clothes on.

[–]Hevendor[S] 0 points1 point ago

That's what I hear everywhere. I just assumed it was common knowledge.

[–]Brohanwashere 0 points1 point ago

Ah. I had thought that a "Hairless chimpanzee" was a separate species. Since I had never heard of it before, I was a bit skeptical. Derp on my part. I have since learned that there are only 2 species of chimpanzee, the common chimp and the bonobo. Hooray for knowledge!

[–]Imtakingadump -2 points-1 points ago

Looks kinda like Pat Robertson.
