[–]pseudolobster 6 points7 points ago

For a second I thought I was in that weird part of reddit.

[–]nosoyunchico 42 points43 points ago

I don't think that's a lioness. Those are three males who are tolerant of eachother because they've been neutered, and so the lion's mane didn't grow.

Heh, dork...

[–]MBuddah 33 points34 points ago

a lion's mane only grows if the lion has nuts? TIL...

Video context. The three were all about two months old when rescued from a drug dealer. They grew up together and their good tempers allowed them to stay together.

[–]maeby_baby 1 point2 points ago

Omg... they love each other! That is absolutely the most adorable thing I've seen today... so many Aww's!!

[–]Kitsunebi 7 points8 points ago

apparently, a comment further at the top suggests that the reason they love each other is because they're all castrated. Happiness - The reddith giveth, but also taketh away.

[–]gemini86 3 points4 points ago

[–]brokendimension 1 point2 points ago

Interbeastality is so beautiful

[–]chean 1 point2 points ago

Dat bear gets mote pussy than me, that's for sure

[–]StewieBanana 645 points646 points ago

Aww, they both could kill me when they grow up.

[–]anothermonth 161 points162 points ago

But not this guy.

[–]howaboutthis13 137 points138 points ago

That man had no reason to hit the bear. He should have talked it out first. It's only the civil thing to do.

[–]Crim91 37 points38 points ago

Man: "Bear, you see, these are my treats. If you growl nicely instead of clawing my forearm off, you may have one."

Bear: "Mmm yes, I do apologize for that blatantly rude swipe. May I please have a treat now?"

Why can't we have civilized conversations with wildlife like this? Wouldn't that be awesome? We need to teach these wild animals some English.

[–]Dark_Drag0n1 44 points45 points ago

You should read up on him, he's a guy who lived out in the woods with a bunch of bears for a long time. Even though the bears are wild, he learned how to understand them well enough to interact with them without being in danger (mostly).

[–]doot_doot 32 points33 points ago

Not to be confused with Grizzly Man

[–]turbo_beef_injection 40 points41 points ago

Soon to be confused with Grizzly Man

[–]foamy5433 12 points13 points ago

the magic word is "mostly".

[–]anothermonth 13 points14 points ago

Yep, that's the keyword here. This fella spent 13 years with them and still ended up being mauled. You might think you got balls to walk around them, but once angry/hungry/horny/stupid enough bear get's a hold of you, you get ripped to shreds in no time.

[–]Lamar_Scrodum 21 points22 points ago

the horny bear is the most dangerous. he will fuck you up emotionally

[–]SilverBullet15 10 points11 points ago

And he won't call you back.

[–]dgutty 3 points4 points ago

He'll take you out to a nice salmon dinner, walk you home, ask to use the bathroom, fuck your brains out once he's inside, leave almost immediately, and never talk to you again. What an asshole.

[–]oldmoneey 1 point2 points ago

It wasn't a friendly bear that killed him. He spent 13 years in territories with numerous bears, that does not mean that he had 13 years of bonding with that particular bear.

[–]CrazyBastard 2 points3 points ago

whats his name?

[–]Frasty 5 points6 points ago

I expect he died?

[–]solidsnake2730 12 points13 points ago

He beat the bear to death with his balls of steel.

[–]big_bub 1 point2 points ago

Didn't he get in trouble a few years back for feeding them up on his property in Alaska? Don't think it was actually shown on TV, just that he admitted it during an interview. They take it really serious up there when it comes to feeding bears.

[–]philahn 118 points119 points ago

They won't be as cute wearing your skin.

[–]bonaducci 71 points72 points ago

Only Honey Boo Boo remains just as cute wearing human skin.

[–]Seicair 23 points24 points ago

That's the strangest defensive stance I've ever seen.

[–]funfungiguy 8 points9 points ago

That's basically the same defensive stance my little brother would use when we fist-fought as kids. It looks stupid and ineffective until you get a few camel-kicks to the balls.

[–]KittyCanScratch 1 point2 points ago

He probably tea-bagged him before, so that's just his way of provoking him.

[–]topgunsarg 14 points15 points ago

How can owls have such awesome facial expressions when I can't even see their mouths :o

[–]Cheeriope 2 points3 points ago

It's all in the eyebrows!

[–]oditogre 26 points27 points ago

Here's all the ones I've got that seem mostly applicable to this theme.

[–]nosoyunchico 4 points5 points ago

That first gif is always so funny... the cat reminds me of the son from Horton Hears a Who.

[–]BobbyTrouble 1 point2 points ago

Wtf is going on in that first gif?!

[–]MRiley84 1 point2 points ago

Is there any context to the last gif? It looks like it was dropped in a thing full of water until it was exhausted, just for a funny gif.

[–]AGGGman 4 points5 points ago

For some reason that reminds me of the Stuart skits from mad TV. "Look what I can do!"

[–]JaxRiens 5 points6 points ago

[–]hiphopkilledmyhamste 195 points196 points ago

for people saying its animal cruelty, it's not. It's therapy for the bear due to its cowardly nature that makes it impossible to socialize with others.

[–]m_bird13 27 points28 points ago

that actually sounds like good therapy for people who suffer from anxiety, make em face their fear. gradually

[–]thefirebuilds 59 points60 points ago

I fear sexy 10's

[–]bonaducci 19 points20 points ago

That would be a very expensive therapy session.

[–]lilmissie365 17 points18 points ago

It's called immersion therapy, and it's a very commonly used technique for curing phobias.

[–]iconrunner 17 points18 points ago

Don't tell shrinks about my arachnophobia. Got it.

[–]deviousjc 1 point2 points ago

Fair fucks to that bloke

[–]m_bird13 1 point2 points ago

also called exposure therapy i think

[–]nahkenyetu 4 points5 points ago

It's called exposure therapy, and it's quite common:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_therapy

[–]sullythered 1 point2 points ago

That isn't how anxiety disorders work in human beings. I get panic attacks. I take medication for them. I also have no discernible fears or phobias. I am fine with social situations, I have no more a fear of death than anybody else, and I conduct myself as such. Sometimes, though, my brain chemistry spazzes out and I lose it. It is absolutely not fear that triggers my anxiety attacks.

[–]InappropriatelyGay 32 points33 points ago

Yeah, Hip Hop is real animal cruelty. Killing innocent hamsters!

[–]Banana_Party 3 points4 points ago

Well shit. Beat by the facts. again.

[–]ch33psh33p 8 points9 points ago

More people need to see this and stop jumping on the "I AM A HUMANITARIAN; THIS IS ANIMAL CRUELTY" circlejerk wagon.

[–]keath 1 point2 points ago

Isn't the bear acting? You know, as therapy for the cowardly lion?

[–]zookeeperv 1 point2 points ago

It should be socializing with other bears.

[–]iDogmatic 69 points70 points ago

This is animal therapy not any form of torture -__- the bear can't live normally with other animals so they are trying to get the bear to interact with other animals. I hate how everyone jumps to conclusions without even understanding what the zoo keeper is saying.

[–]zeroempathy 129 points130 points ago

A kodiak moment.

[–]InteractionArtist 64 points65 points ago

In case anyone missed it: basic electronics symbols.

[–]Cayou 1 point2 points ago

Nice to see that meme wasn't forgotten. It's pretty old, no?

[–]roklykthat 19 points20 points ago

[–]Viend 6 points7 points ago

Original video for those curious.

And no, I have no idea what the fuck is happening either.

[–]Ghost_Queef 16 points17 points ago

Animal therapy apparently.

The bear is afraid of everything, and contrary to what everyone is saying, the bear is actually not in harm's way.

It's not animal cruelty. They're trying to help the bear see that there is nothing to be afraid of. See how they go from the lions to the monkey and the bear is equally scared. It's therapy. It's not some sick joke. The bear is being hostile and they want it to be friendly.

[–]Woman_Tamer 3 points4 points ago

The video you replied to is a different video.

[–]Ghost_Queef 1 point2 points ago

Well, that's what I get for assuming things. Still did not click that link.

Whateva, I'm fabulous!

[–]Thigrai 1 point2 points ago

The dude starts out by reciting a poem for courage that goes along the lines of "If bears ever were bees, they would think not ever of, building so high homes" after which he jumps, what then follows includes but is not limited to "Balconies", "fucking balconies", "fucking citizens", "your mom" and many interpretations of "fuck". Hope that put some context in there for you :b

[–]vaelon 19 points20 points ago

I like the top comment from YouTube:

You guys are fucking idiots. How do you guys think therapy works for animals? You think they do group therapy with other traumatized animals and they hold hands and sing kumbaya? No, it's like this, it's putting the animals together until they realize they are not in any harm... and yes they will scream and whine and protest all the way until they get used to it but they won't die. You guys all win a medal for being a waste of a brain.

[–]blastshieldaddiction 5 points6 points ago

old.

[–]Xyrd 2 points3 points ago

To be fair, I'd probably have the same reaction.

[–]whitey-ofwgkta 2 points3 points ago

How I react when a stranger flirts with me in front of my girlfriend.

[–]SaulGoode9 2 points3 points ago

Well, this is new

[–]TyZi 7 points8 points ago

This gif has made the front page like 3 times in the last week.

[–]hht1975 3 points4 points ago

How many times is this going to be reposted?

[–]TeCuervo 138 points139 points ago

Here is the whole video.
Wonder if people will still think it is funny.

[–]gb14 58 points59 points ago

They're teaching the bear to adjust to the other animals in the zoo. It's not in any danger but in order for it to cope with the new environment it has to deal with the other animals in this kind of way. It's hard to watch but I think it has to be done, rather then keep it in it's own isolated habitat.

[–]Vacuitymechanica 213 points214 points ago

They're preparing the bear for a release back into the wild. They're toughening it up so when they release it back into the wild it doesn't have a heart attack and die.

Kind of like how you put a child in the bathtub, regardless of the crying and moaning, in order for said child to learn that there's nothing wrong with water.

There was nothing cruel about this vid.

[–]zeroempathy 53 points54 points ago

In Korean, the zoo trainer says the bear lost his mother. This means the bear has nobody around to teach him anything. They taught him to swim, they taught him which foods to eat and which ones not to eat, and now they are training the bear to interact with other animals of the zoo.

[–]swebonny 18 points19 points ago

BARBARIANS!

[–]ActuatedSathman 14 points15 points ago

barbearians?

[–]lapsus_linguae 264 points265 points ago

I don't think they're doing it for the comedy.

If the bear is to live with other animals in a zoo it has to be shown that other animals normally predators are not threats.

So I find the footage innocent, but the show barbaric.

[–]Ambulocetus 80 points81 points ago

or the bear needs to learn to defend itself as the top comment of the video suggests in a different link. Theres no evidence this was filmed for the purpose of a comedy tv show. You can see the bear defending itself at the end of this video.

[–]Mobile_Man 40 points41 points ago

You can see the bear defending itself at the end of this video.

Not only defending itself, that poor monkey looks like he's getting raped at the end there.

[–]joemangle 22 points23 points ago

I was tempted to click on the link... not any more though

[–]prmaster23 17 points18 points ago

It is totally SFW, nothing is getting raped in that video.

[–]DeathToPennies 50 points51 points ago

I didn't click until I read that.

[–]SilentLettersSuck 8 points9 points ago

[–]Joubin 1 point2 points ago

Do you put the pennies up your ass everyday? Is that how you kill them? What a cruel fate.

[–]anothermonth 1 point2 points ago

That bear is a minor.

Although I'm not sure about the status of the victim there.

[–]YourACoolGuy 2 points3 points ago

I honestly thought that part was really cute.

[–]bobfrombobtown 1 point2 points ago

I honestly doubt the idea here is for the bear to learn how to "defend itself". Since this is a zoo it's more likely that the trainers are teaching the bear how to socialize with animals it is unfamiliar with and by introducing it to both other predators and possible prey animals it's treating them both equally. So it will learn to not be threatened by these other animals and will also not try to eat the smaller ones like the monkeys.

[–]LexLV 5 points6 points ago

How is the show barbaric? Do you even understand Korean and know what the show is about?

http://tv.sbs.co.kr/zoo/

It's a show on SBS where they look at zoos, animal centers and other things like that. It's just a basic documentary thing related to animals.

As with any normal show format in South Korea, it has MCs who basically watch the VT with the audience and leave passing comments. The noises and titles are literally the same they use in any variety / light entertainment show on television. They laugh just the same as everyone else did when they saw the picture.

[–]tQkSushi 9 points10 points ago

I think this has been a good thread to show redditors they shouldn't jump at their first impression...or second...or third...

[–]whatyouknowmane 42 points43 points ago

You are a classic shit stirring reddit moron. They're exposing the bear to different animals so the bear will realize he/she shouldn't fear them, so that in the future the bear may be released into the wild.

[–]hiphopkilledmyhamste 134 points135 points ago

thats not animal cruelty at all... people really need to know to context before they make rash judgement and say ignorant things

[–]Avohaj 62 points63 points ago

But...I already have...pitchfork and torches...aww maaaan.

[–]Mobile_Man 36 points37 points ago

If some people would get the sand out of their vaginas and read the comment maybe they would understand the context.

So, after spending a whole minute reading some of the youtube comments on the video it seems that this is a rehabilitation program for the bear. Apparently there aren't many bears living in the wild in Korea and this program is supposed to teach the bear to live without fear of other animals in the wild.

Also, scumbag youtube uploader supposedly cut out the part where they show the bear is not afraid anymore. Do you people actually believe they laugh at someone scaring the shit out of the bear on TV?

[–]AlwaysFail 27 points28 points ago

but...but... I just finally got all that sand in there...

[–]asherrd 8 points9 points ago

While your comment is correct, I fully believe lots of people will laugh at someone scaring the shit out of a bear. There are people that laugh while throwing a dog off a bridge and scaring a bear is a lot less harsh than that.

[–]sirsnacksalot 10 points11 points ago

Scaring the shit out of anything is always funny

[–]mrbangbam 4 points5 points ago

You're right, AND this wasn't done purposely just to scare the bear. It just happened to be a funny video that ended up going to a show.

The rest of these people are acting like the bear was purposely thrown w another wild animal for comedy. ugh.

[–]ThirdEyedea 7 points8 points ago

Yep. Still funny.

[–]StewieBanana 16 points17 points ago

I have a feeling what is being said in Korean is pretty important in terms of understanding what's going on. I think I'll reserve judgement for the moment.

[–]emkat 11 points12 points ago

It was therapy for the bear because that bear had an irrational fear of everything (even was afraid of a moving shadow)

[–]StewieBanana 2 points3 points ago

If that's the case, I don't feel bad at all laughing at that adorable scaredy cat.

[–]THCTuesdays 5 points6 points ago

I found it quite funny.

[–]Cycix 6 points7 points ago

I still think its funny!

[–]Thissqid 5 points6 points ago

The video is posted by a known troll...the bear is learning to interact with other animals so it can be prepared for eventual release....The other animals are all zoo kept and harmless....it is learning that..settle down PETA.

[–]dreamerzz 6 points7 points ago

is a woman who has an irrational fear of pickles getting flooded by pickles funnier?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta-FGE7QELQ

[–]qleblat 2 points3 points ago

Yes

[–]andrewcare 10 points11 points ago

Context is everything. The video title changes from, "HOLYSHIT ITS A LION!!!!!!!" to, "Animal Cruelty at Korean Zoo - Bear Traumatized at "Everland" park."

Just because the bear acted afraid didn't mean the bear was in danger. The fear it has is irrational... It ran from a monkey's shadow.

[–]DeanKeaton 5 points6 points ago

Animal cruelty? I watched this show and the whole episode long time ago. These people were trying to get the baby bear to become acclimated with other animals in the zoo.

You think these people... Who's job is to take care of animals... would harm the bears just for laughs? Why? Because they are Asians and they must treat animals bad unlike American zoos? 3 min clip from 1 hour show with title "Animal Cruelty at Korean Zoo" and you buy into what the poster is selling without knowing the context

[–]sfc949 3 points4 points ago

Yep still kinda funny :P

[–]sirsnacksalot 1 point2 points ago

actually it's even funnier with the announcer's reactions

[–]krugnasty 1 point2 points ago

Great now I'm watching Japanese game shows. Thanks

[–]Throwway007 1 point2 points ago

It may not be funny but its part of a rehabilitation program. The bear was raised in captivity and they are trying to get it to socialize. He wouldn't last long in the wild if he was afraid of literally every animal.

[–]withporkandmolasses 1 point2 points ago

I am the uploader of that video. Really surprised to see it here, I totally forgot about it until I saw that gif. Just read the youtube account name and that will answer all your questions.

[–]nick42 1 point2 points ago

oh god, im going to hell. laughed heartily throughout

That bear has some serious issues.

thanks for posting the entire video, but apparently it's how they socialize traumatized animals, not just torturing it for the lulz. It was tough to watch. but goddamn that gif is still funny as hell tho.

I watched that when I was teaching in Korea, there's also a young chimp and young bear that "plays" with them. More like the bear bullies the other baby animals. There's also a zoo you can visit to see these animals in Daejeon.

+1 for DAEJEON REPRESENT

I hope I'm not the first to ask for a source on the "therapy" explanation? Because it looks like a TV show with bad sound effects and a laugh track.
