[–]BroJSimpson 20 points21 points ago

But....I'm Canadian and I'm not allowed to. Fuck it, I didn't want to watch it anyways.

[–]BrBybee 31 points32 points ago

Now apologize for saying "fuck" on the internet.

[–]Crazyasian93 7 points8 points ago

As another Canadian, I sincerely apologize for my fellow countryman. Please know that we Canadians never meant to offend you or anyone else on the internet. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

[–]nsaucdiv151 9 points10 points ago

Snatch on the front page? I'm not subscribed to /r/gonewild :-(.

[–]RunsRealFast 6 points7 points ago

They didn't do a good job of advertising that feature.

[–]I_live_in_a_trashcan 5 points6 points ago

I recommend everyone watch THANKSKILLING. Its under comedy and is pretty funny to watch with friends. A movie couldn't get dumber. My friends and I were busting up at its shittyness.

[–]TheBadOwl 3 points4 points ago

NICE TITS, BITCH!

[–]I3aisden 3 points4 points ago

So many subpar movies in one place

[–]Yaverland 6 points7 points ago

"Brother From Another Planet"? Ha, sounds like one of those terrible 70s films. I bet the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are hilarious. What the... 92%!?!?!?

[–]SirClueless 1 point2 points ago

You mistook the indie hipster takeoff on 70s B movies for the real thing. Happens to everyone once in a while.

[–]Headcap 2 points3 points ago

city ninja!? fucking aye

[–]Lthondre 1 point2 points ago

What a strange place to put that word...

Especially you Jenny Beckman.

Bitch.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points ago

how are these videos up?

[–]Keyboardin 0 points1 point ago

I think they're mirrored so they're not copyright.

[–]NosferatuHeftyDance 16 points17 points ago

But it's not, everything seems to be the right way round, like writing and stuff.

[–]phliuy 102 points103 points ago

that's because they mirrored it twice

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points ago

And then double rot-13 encrypted it

[–]chazzeromus 11 points12 points ago

Redundancy, there's never enough.

[–]MTRXD5 8 points9 points ago

You can say that again

[–]Lthondre 4 points5 points ago

You can say that again, once more.

[–]Alpha_Mike_Foxtrot 2 points3 points ago

Redundancy, there's never enough.

[–]Viend 1 point2 points ago

And they're behind 7 proxies.

[–]bojanbabic 19 points20 points ago

[–]The_Doctor_00 63 points64 points ago

Roses are reddish, violets are sorta bluish, people that don't celebrate Xmas are sometimes Jewish.

[–]Trikester 30 points31 points ago

Roses are grey, violets are grey, fuck you I'm color blind

[–]AppleDane 2 points3 points ago

[–]bricardo 4 points5 points ago

Roses are fine, violets are too, so bring on the wine and I'll drink it for you

[–]ThatGuyRememberMe 2 points3 points ago

Hahhahaa- let's stop this now.

[–]ThomaSTi 1 point2 points ago

One more? Roses are red. Violets are blue. Pornhub is down, your mom's Facebook will do!

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points ago

Which end?

[–]HomieHavko 62 points63 points ago

Sideways...

[–]aerikson 2 points3 points ago

Ohhh Agent Coulson...

[–]dorekk 2 points3 points ago

This was my favorite line of the whole movie.

[–]DaMountainDwarf 24 points25 points ago

That image has been through the internet photocopier one too many times.

[–]ImASoftwareEngineer 8 points9 points ago

Anyone excited for Looper?

[–]dorekk 5 points6 points ago

Hell yeah. But then, I'm excited for almost everything he does.

[–]UseThe4s 8 points9 points ago

[–]Sebu91 33 points34 points ago

What movie is this?

[–]fertehlulz 101 points102 points ago

500 days of summer

[–]Sebu91 15 points16 points ago

Thanks

[–]Jay_Normous 34 points35 points ago

It's great. Fun fact, it's director Marc Webb's first feature length film. He is more well known as a music video director. He is also the director of the new Spiderman movie.

[–]coleosis1414 25 points26 points ago

It's fantastic, go give it a watch.

[–]Sebu91 2 points3 points ago

Will do

[–]IncarnatedFate 1 point2 points ago

Go. Watch it now. At once!

[–]Smalz22 2 points3 points ago

HE ALREADY IS! DAMN!

[–]jsto34 40 points41 points ago

My favorite chick flick.

[–]realigion 37 points38 points ago

Crazy Stupid Love is also surprisingly funny. And Ryan Gosling.

[–]albequirky 20 points21 points ago

Romantic comedy =/= chick flick

Women do not have a monopoly on love

[–]jsto34 8 points9 points ago

I also really like that movie though I don't see that as a chick flick at all.

[–]Devilsdance 13 points14 points ago

I don't see 500 Days of Summer as a chick-flick either.

[–]BlackZeppelin 1 point2 points ago

I really liked that movie. All the actors were great and I really loved the backyard scene.

[–]walkingtheriver 78 points79 points ago

This is probably the least chick flick of all chick flicks.

[–]heymrk 25 points26 points ago

This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story.

[–]jsto34 33 points34 points ago

That's why it's my favorite.

[–]Rswany 3 points4 points ago

What if I told you

it's not a chick flick?

[–]CIRCLE_JERK_LEGEND 7 points8 points ago

It's a coming of age movie.

[–]felipec 1 point2 points ago

More like a dick-flick.

[–]stagfury 17 points18 points ago

How can one not like a movie starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel?

[–]jsto34 14 points15 points ago

JGL is the man.

[–]whatevers_clever 7 points8 points ago

incoming explanation of how 500 days of summer is the opposite of a chick flick as its about a guy who falls in love with a fantasy only to help the viewer see the reality - that he doesn't actually love her but loves who she thinks she is and its just a depressing recognition of humanities definition of 'true love' / 'love at first sight' or whatever being inexistant.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

It's not a chick flick. I refuse to believe that. It's a romantic comedy with dramatic elements. NOT A CHICK FLICK DAMNIT, ITS MANLY TEARS I CRIED.

[–]weallwearmasks 2 points3 points ago

It LITERALLY felt like I was watching my own life story. Everything from the basic plot, the characters, and his misinterpretations of pretty much everything involving the girl. Up until the point where he met Autumn, I could relate every plot twist to something that happened in my life. It really freaked me out when the narrator announced the date he met her specifically: May 23. My birthday. I've never met an Autumn, but when I do I'm guaranteed to act more awkward than awkward penguin.

[–]Gallifrasian 1 point2 points ago

Literally.

[–]72minutes 5 points6 points ago

the expectation vs. reality scene in this movie gets me emotional.

[–]I_am_not_angry 62 points63 points ago

I bet Literally is one of the most often misused words in the English language.

[–]sqazm 163 points164 points ago

Used to acknowledge that something is not literally true but is used for emphasis or to express strong feeling.

That is literally the second definition.

[–]Dick_Serious 72 points73 points ago

I love how in the second definition of literally it says "used to acknowledge something that is not literally true".

So, literally can mean literally true, or NOT literally true.

[–]MergeTheBands 25 points26 points ago

"Hey what does literally mean?"

"Oh you know, it means, like, not literally."

[–]spooc 4 points5 points ago

It's like sarcasm. The syntax is identical but means the exact opposite. Natural language is not context-free if that's what you thought...

[–]MergeTheBands 2 points3 points ago

That is exactly what I thought. What's sarcasm?

[–]dangerous_beans 16 points17 points ago

The English language is full of contranyms (words with opposing definitions.) A Word a Day dedicated a week to them..

[–]hungrybackpack 1 point2 points ago

Those examples aren't nearly as egregious as "literally".

For example, "cull" means "improving the average quality of a group by either separating the superior from inferior."

"Nickel-and-dime" means "a transfer of wealth via many small increments".

These terms seem to only be contranyms only because of the way that the definitions are organized. The dual nature of "literally" is so extreme that most "second definitions" actually use the word "literally" because it is so difficult to define otherwise. I don't understand why the "literally means 'not literally'" definition isn't labeled as a common colloquial misuse.

[–]cojafoji 3 points4 points ago

This entire discussion is a moot point.

[–]whoadave 5 points6 points ago

Oh okay, well centuries ago people were infallible, so obviously they were using it correctly.

[–]MikeDSNY 1 point2 points ago

"Do you know why its the second definition? CAUSE ITS NOT THE FIRST!" -George Carlin

[–]Kaladin_Shardbearer 1 point2 points ago

This only arose through chronic misuse.

[–]Fleshgod 1 point2 points ago

Because so many people misuse it that it had to be changed.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

That's literally how vernacular English works.

[–]rcrabb 4 points5 points ago

No, it really does work that way.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

That's literally what I said.

[–]hungrybackpack 1 point2 points ago

Based on that masterfully ironic exchange, I think that rcrabb just scored a checkmate. Read it again if you missed it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Oh yeah. I missed it.

[–]minkgod 11 points12 points ago

Followed immediately by "ironic".

[–]mizclean 5 points6 points ago

David Cross did a bit about the word literally. Something like "the funny thing about the word literally is that when people misuse it, they're using it the exact opposite way it was intended." Now I notice it every time.

[–]jermh 1 point2 points ago

[–]123GoTeamShake 3 points4 points ago

Literally

[–]saucercrab 2 points3 points ago

It literally drives me crazy to literally hear it, whether it be as a gross misuse of a figure of speech, or literally as an inaccurate modifier. I literally never use the adverb, as a literal protest against the literally millions of people who spout it off literally every other word literally thinking it makes them sound clever. Literally.

[–]hthu 2 points3 points ago

Literally == Not Literally

Literally != Literally

So, if I say something is literally true, then it is the same as saying that something is not literally true, which means true == false. It works out perfectly.

[–]youngjheezy 1 point2 points ago

it's literally the most overused word, literally. liter-a-lly

[–]WinstonNilesRumfoord 1 point2 points ago

Right behind ironic.

[–]raskolnikov- 4 points5 points ago

I don't know where pseudo-intellectuals got the idea that "literally" is the only word that is "incorrect" when it is used figuratively. By the same logic, you could declare war against all similes and metaphors. If I say, "he was as tall as a mountain," and he was not really as tall as a mountain, I must be misusing the word "mountain," right? If someone uses the word "literally" to add emphasis and they do not actually misunderstand the definition, how is it a "misuse"?

[–]FredFnord 1 point2 points ago

Because it's tiresome saying, "I was literally agape. And by that I mean that my mouth actually was hanging open, physically, in real life, I'm not just saying this for effect, no, honestly, my mouth was like this."

When your use of the language makes it impossible to convey a particular concept any more, it becomes problematic, And yes, I have had that problem on several occasions.

[–]funkme1ster 0 points1 point ago

Because it helps them sleep at night.

Only conventional literary comparisons are acceptable, and all creative or unorthodox structures, regardless of their grammatical correctness, are to be shunned because they're indicative of someone's being a retard. God forbid I use other ways to convey imagery and allusions to help relate a thesis.

It's the same for memes - esoteric pop culture jokes like "Where's the beef?" that predate the current generation's birth are timeless classics, but esoteric pop culture jokes referencing current celebrities get old and tiresome.

...of course, the counterpoint is that the word "literally" is used itself to 'defuse' literary structures and indicate that they are not, in fact, hyperbole or metaphor but an explicit relation of factual experiences. Using "literally" to modify a metaphor is somewhat redundant in this context.

But on the other other hand, it can further enhance hyperbole when appended on an outlandish metaphor to suggest the absurdity of the metaphor when taken concretely.

So really, it all goes back to how the speaker wishes to convey a point to the listener and their personal style.

[–]CheapBastid 2 points3 points ago

Because it intrinsically has the opposite meaning of figuratively.

Misusing a word in an attempt to give emphasis =/= using it figuratively.

I'm a fan of the simple critisism that when 'literally' is used it leads to confusing or foolish-sounding results. The answers are simple. Either omit it (as it sounds better), or use it with forms of the word 'feel':

"It literally felt like my mouth was on fire."

"Feels like that literally blew my mind."

[–]TeamRoscoe 6 points7 points ago

great movie

[–]Adddddie 3 points4 points ago

What movie? I must know.

[–]Ender1337otron 2 points3 points ago

I hate it when people misuse the word literally.

[–]spatchattack 2 points3 points ago

every time I see Joseph Gordon Levett I think of Brick.

[–]Vicious_Seraph 2 points3 points ago

I just sat and watched the whole movie. I had forgotten how good it is.

Edit: Looked on the sidebar and there's a TON of other full length movies. OMG, I'm gonna waste SO much time today.

[–]whitvw 2 points3 points ago

Literally, this film has managed to make it in my top 5 favorites of all time.

[–]drjalexanderphysics 2 points3 points ago

500 Days of Summer?

[–]kenetha65 2 points3 points ago

Whenever I hear or read someone use that word I hear Inigo Montoya in my head, "I don't think that word means what you think it means."

[–]TehHolyFace 1 point2 points ago

I was so glad that my girlfriend showed me this movie. It's actually one of my favourites!

[–]space301 1 point2 points ago

The reality vs expectations part of this movie really hit home.

[–]kforte318 1 point2 points ago

God I love this movie.

[–]jiggabigganigga 1 point2 points ago

straight male, but JGL is super fucking attractive, and Zooey Deschane is super stunning as well. 10/10

[–]cupcakesandcrap 1 point2 points ago

i can't stand it when people say literally when its not literal.

[–]moar_noaw 4 points5 points ago

A good anecdote for redditors who overuse that word.

[–]ItsARealThing 1 point2 points ago

Concerning the use of Literally.
