Actually, googled it, and it seems to be said that it's not an evolutionary mechanism so much as it is a genetic mutation and/or result of social climate, etc., and is actually counter productive in the sense that it's one of those things supposedly filtered out or kept to a minimum by the survival drive and/or natural selection. Just posting what I've read too btw, so there's my disclaimer.

I get the impression from your post that you are referring to people, as in "I wonder if homosexuality is an evolutionary method to prevent overpopulation in humans," because other species of animals/plants generally regulate their population themselves. If this is the case (I hope so, or else I'm going to make a fool of myself) then this proposition is false, simply because homosexuality has been documented in about 1500 species of animals, not just humans. Also, this is my very first post on Reddit ever, guyz.
