It's actually even the same imgur link...

I clicked view comments on reddit and was a bit confused as to why comments on a front page post "have been archived"

[–]DebbieHDowner 11 points12 points ago

Do you know what else is increasing? The amount of inner city animal abuse, especially with stray cats.

[–]galileofan 5 points6 points ago

What? Oh, I see...waah waah

[–]tagrav 0 points1 point ago

is that forreal?

god help us all...

[–]russelln 5 points6 points ago

OP must have thought the title he used justified reposting it... shame.

[–]Mr_Rawrr 1 point2 points ago

Exponentially.

[–]TinyTeddy93 0 points1 point ago

I think this was the last picture I saw on reddit 12 hours ago. I thought I'd got back to where I'd been last night until I saw it said '6 hours ago'. Don't do this to me reddit - my brain can't take it anymore.

[–]icamefrom4chan 0 points1 point ago

[–]shakensunshine 16 points17 points ago

This looks fake.

[–]lemonpjb 4 points5 points ago

It is. Dave doesn't tweet. I think he tweeted once, ever.

[–]TedFromTheFuture 0 points1 point ago

THis is his real twitter feed: https://twitter.com/davechappelle

Sadly, he stopped posting because he said his twitter account was hacked.

90'S KIDS NEVER4GET.

[–]drokcab 91 points92 points ago

dae remember bill clinton or is it just me

[–]Tripudelops 50 points51 points ago

what does this pen have in common with this tape only 90's kids will understand lol

[–]imbored53 19 points20 points ago

I'm gonna make a wild guess that 80's kids and older remember how to rewind cassettes too...

[–]belflandluvr 12 points13 points ago

Man, I saw a Facebook photo that said only '90s kids would remember ringpops. Motherfucking ringpops. They had those before the '90s, and they still have them now.

[–]DJ_FSM -3 points-2 points ago

I kid you not, i saw one that showed a picture of the world trade center and it said "only 90s kids will remember" i uploaded it to reddit and got a whopping 0 karma

[–]Tripudelops 8 points9 points ago

Absolutely they would. When I saw this in a post a few months back that's one of the first things that came to mind. I think that's part of why it's hilarious.

[–]smokeyj 3 points4 points ago

I just remembered my fam had a device dedicated to rewinding VHS. It makes me laugh.

[–]Narcissistic_Eyeball 1 point2 points ago

Oh god, you too? I think we STILL have it. It just looks like a beat up plastic box, though. I should save it for my children and give it to them as a birthday gift.

[–]Lamar_Scrodum 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure no "90's kid" had to deal with this

[–]imbored53 0 points1 point ago

It might sound crazy, but plenty of kids used cassettes before they were 12-14. Generally a 90's kid was born in the mid to late 80's and just grew up in the 90's.

[–]Lamar_Scrodum 0 points1 point ago

You were 11 and had a cassette player you little shit

[–]imbored53 0 points1 point ago

I knew 9 year old kids with Playstations. What's your point?

[–]CozenOne 14 points15 points ago

love being a 90s kid cartoons were so good then!!!

[–]DGCA 27 points28 points ago

Cartoons were so good when I liked cartoons. All these new cartoons suck, and coincidentally, I stopped watching the old ones!

[–]a_park_bench 0 points1 point ago

Except Spongebob. Nobody ever stops watching Spongebob.

[–]DGCA 0 points1 point ago

Spongebob is the bomb. There's definitely other good cartoons out as well.

[–]Narcissistic_Eyeball 0 points1 point ago

the bomb.

Only 90's kids will understand.

[–]catsmakeweirdnoises -5 points-4 points ago

I hope you're fucking kidding. I feel bad about being born in the 90s because of all these people that have an unwarranted sense of pride because of it. You got older, want a fucking medal?

[–]Nodonn226 17 points18 points ago

While I technically had these things, I was not often allowed to partake in them due to the "inside or outside" policy instituted by my father. The times were tough and as I did not "live in a barn" and the "fucking a/c costs money" I had to stay outside or risk not ever seeing my friends.

I wonder if many parents do that nowadays?

I guess the main difference is these devices are for the child, the others you listed were for the family. The VCR wasn't mine, it was in the TV room for everyone. When we got a lone computer, our ballin' 56k internet wasn't for my pornography habits, but for everyone to pirate music (one or two songs a day, awesome). Good times.

[–]ItsTheFeds 3 points4 points ago

"Go outside and play. Don't you dare come back inside until dinner." That was a pretty standard summer day when I was growing up.

[–]Aikarus 4 points5 points ago

Huh, parents back then were much more sexually active than now

[–]ItsTheFeds 0 points1 point ago

I was an immaculate conception.

[–]kantorekB14 19 points20 points ago

You're 11 years old and you have an NES/SNES/N64/SEGAGENISIS/PS1/PS2/whatever, you little shit.

[–]ZakkuHiryado 9 points10 points ago

So... if I'm 23 and I have ALL of those, what does that make me exactly?

[–]-Tommy 42 points43 points ago

A big shit

[–]ZakkuHiryado 1 point2 points ago

I kinda walked right into that one.

[–]rarisgod -1 points0 points ago

I just figured it encompassed more possibilities. Cheers!

[–]shadypizzaguy 7 points8 points ago

Hey now. It was a family VCR.

[–]beedogs 5 points6 points ago

Only two of those things fit in a pocket, and only one of those things has a recurring, monthly contract paid for by the 11-year-old's parents.

[–]RazZaHlol 3 points4 points ago

BUT THEY NEVER HAD A CHILDHOOD LIKE WE HAD!

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points ago

As technology becomes more advanced, kids will have cooler stuff than what older people had at their age. Get over it.

That's not even the point. The point being a child does not need a $500+ Smart phone. And all those other things were most likely not bought for the sole purpose of the child but the whole family.

[–]LowCarbs 2 points3 points ago

I don't think the entire family wanted a video game console, at least in most cases. That was for the kids, and it had a lot less practical value than a smartphone.

[–]icamefrom4chan 3 points4 points ago

My family pooled our Xmas money from the grandparents to buy things like a VCR, TV, and Nes. My day played more Mario, top gear, and golf than me lol.

[–]Narcissistic_Eyeball 0 points1 point ago

I think the point is, back then, we had the NES, SNES, and a few other systems. Sure, they were expensive when released. But if you wanted to play video games, you had to have a console. But for an 11 year old with an iPhone? If you want to be able to have your kid call you, get them a regular phone. There is no need for such an expensive device. Texting? Can be done with a regular phone. They need a music device? iPod. I'm not telling parents how to parent, but when a kid with an iPhone complains about their parents being selfish or lame or something, it makes me want to punch them.

[–]Spookaboo 0 points1 point ago

Of course they don't NEED it, but I didn't NEED anything I got as a kid. The whole point of these things is frivolous entertainment.

[–]SecretSlogan 9 points10 points ago

Dave doesn't give a fuck about something being "cool", he gives a fuck that a child has a piece of equipment worth hundreds of dollars and they don't aren't acting like they should if they deserved it.

[–]smellmyfakelegs 6 points7 points ago

I doubt that's actually Dave.

[–]I_Hate_Reddit_ 2 points3 points ago

The thing is, is that I'm much older than 11, and I don't have/can't afford/can't be bothered to have an iphone. It doesn't have anything to do with what I had when I was that age.

[–]TheTacticalApe -1 points0 points ago

But you obviously have internet, which a lot of people didn't have/couldn't afford/couldn't bother to have 15 years ago.

[–]I_Hate_Reddit_ 2 points3 points ago

We're not talking about 15 years ago, we're talking about the age gap between being 11 and being much older. What time period this age gap falls in is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that some young children have access to things that many adults now still can't have/can't afford/can't bother to have, without knowledge of the privilege that they have been given. That was the joke. It doesn't have anything to do with what I, or anyone, had as a child. It has to do with what we have now, and what we had to do to earn that.

[–]Crono101 16 points17 points ago

Thank you for saying this. People really need to learn the meaning of perspective

[–]nmeseth 4 points5 points ago

When we (People who are 18-25) were younger, cell phones were way more expensive, and adding a phone to a family plan wasn't just a few bucks a month.

Plans to "cover" phones were expensive as well. As time went on, the cell phone plans became cheaper, more child-friendly minutes/texting mechanics were developed and cell phone "insurance" became more available.

[–]Crono101 3 points4 points ago

Sure buddy. Now take what you just said and replace cell phones with computers and you have my generation (25-30). Then jump back a bit, and replace computers with television.

New technology is always expensive for first generation. Get it? Next generation it will ipads or whatever, and those kids with cell phones will say "shit, these kids with their ipads don't know what it was like back in my day"

[–]nmeseth 7 points8 points ago

Yeah, that's exactly my point.

For a little bit it held a point, when you see a 6-7 year old with an iphone.

A lot of them have "kid phones" that look more expensive than they are.

[–]Crono101 3 points4 points ago

For sure. For my generation, the "kid phone" was a gameboy...

Man that shit was baller.

[–]warpus 8 points9 points ago

I was born in communist Poland.

My "kid phone" was a stick. You fuckers had it good

[–]hbgoddard 1 point2 points ago

He's an idiot that completely missed the point of the post. First of all, an 11 year old has no need for a cell phone. Second, even if you could justify an 11 year old having a cell phone, having a fucking $500 smartphone is fucking idiotic. Third, nearly everything he listed wouldn't belong to the kid, but be used more as a family device. (VCR, internet, TV, radio). This offers no perspective.

[–]Crono101 0 points1 point ago

points at later example of gameboy Yes but a gameboy would belong to the kid.

His point was that the availability of new technology will always appear outrageous to an older generation. Just like you are saying "a fucking $500 smartphone" (which by the way is highly unlikely, $500 fucking dollars? where do you live, rich land?), it appears ridiculous to you because you remember when it was difficult to acquire a smart phone.

[–]Spookaboo -1 points0 points ago

500 dollars isn't really that much anymore. and the only reason kids get personal devices today is because they're so cheap, a vcr, tv etc were expensive years ago.

[–]x755x 6 points7 points ago

Excluding the cell phone, all of those are things a whole family would share.

[–]The_amazing_one 1 point2 points ago

Ahhhh, Gameboys. Those were definitely the days!

[–]Major_Colvin 1 point2 points ago

And it completely misses the point of why an 11 year old might be feeling upset or anxious or resentful or whatever. The sense of self-entitlement isn't created by the kid, it's created by their parents when they substitute material stuff for having the relationship with the kid that they inherently want; they just can't articulate wanting it, because they're 11.

[–]ObidiahWTFJerwalk 1 point2 points ago

If you go back far enough, someone probably said, "Kids these days have it so easy. They don't even remember what it was like before fire."

[–]slofish 1 point2 points ago

The point isn't that we didn't have them as kids, its that there are other people that don't so you shouldn't complain.

[–]waviecrockett 0 points1 point ago

*And you have a TV in your room

makes more sense

[–]A_Wild_Missingno 0 points1 point ago

Earlier things would all get boring after a while. You can only watch so many movies, listen to so much radio, play so much pokemon before you want to go do a different type of entertainment thing.

An iphone is a radio, internet computer, "vcr" (download movies), tv, gameboy+gaming console+casual game, communication device. This covers just about every gap in at least the minimum entertainment you'd need for various categories when you tire of one of them. Once you are bored of games or movies or every book ever written or reading on the internet, you can be in touch with friends which is a huge leap that generations before didn't really have.

This means that now when you're the first to wake up at a sleep over, you don't need to worry about waking everyone up because you have a phone right in your pocket to play a game with or watch a movie. Or even to talk to the one other guy across the room who is up without pissing everyone off. When you get lost getting back to your friends house, you can bring up google maps and find your way home rather than waste all your time you had together just trying to get back. Speaking of which, you don't need to ask "are we there yet" because you can just google it from the back seat.

The smart phone is essentially "OP as fuck" in relation to the past entertainment technologies.

[–]danielkuzmin -1 points0 points ago

I never thought of it that way. Thank you for opening my eyes. I won't think of those kids as "spoiled" anymore.

[–]Sekre 7 points8 points ago

There is honestly no reason for an 11 year old to have an iPhone, though. A phone yes, but not a $700 smart phone.

[–]LowCarbs -1 points0 points ago

No reason to have a gameboy either... And games for those cost significantly more than the free/99 cent apps for the phones.

[–]Changsta -2 points-1 points ago

While true, you have to think about the how life changes with each technological advance in society.

Radio? News became more widespread and reached everyone faster.

TV? Similar but able to put everything into a visual sense too.

VCR? People can record shows or just simply watch what they want to on TV to pass time when bored.

iPhone? Well.. you're just a stupid 11 year old that has an iPhone. Who the hell is going to call you.

[–]mrcandiipants 1 point2 points ago

Are you trying to insinuate that the invention of the smartphone hasn't affected society at all? Also I work with lots of 10-13 year old kids in the summer and they all have cell phones of some sort and are calling/texting each other all the time. I'm not saying this is good or bad, but trying to say that smartphones have made less of an impact on technology than VCRs seems a little ridiculous to me.

[–]RageGodReed 1 point2 points ago

A miniature computer in your pocket? Yeh thats like completely useless and will have absolutely so impact on society...

[–]BrownItToYa -1 points0 points ago

but, with the 1% and 99% and stuff like that, we all envy parents of ignorant brats that think they are like the rest of the world but are really, 1% of it

[–]overts -1 points0 points ago

Yeah but everyone knows that if you have an iPhone all of your problems go away.

[–]ymo -1 points0 points ago

Every one of those is a household device. Mobile telephony is the first instance of children's personal possession of a device other than a backpack or calculator.

[–]SlaughterMeister -1 points0 points ago

As a child, I never owned a single thing that cost anywhere near the cost of an iPhone. I had an NES with three games, one of which was a gift from someone aside from my parents. I'm 29 and my iPhone makes me feel spoiled.

[–]atmac0 -2 points-1 points ago

Inflation, my friend.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

I didn't have an iPhone when I was 11, therefore no one should have an iPhone when they were 11.

My grandparents didn't have the internet, ever, therefore no one should have the internet, ever.

[–]KilgoreTroutQQ -4 points-3 points ago

An iPhone is all of those things in one handheld device though.

[–]Anonazon2 -2 points-1 points ago

Internet doesn't cost hundred dollars a month

[–]calebhall 1 point2 points ago

100 a phone a month? Who are you with?

[–]Anonazon2 0 points1 point ago

All carriers cost at least 70 a month for unlimited internet.

[–]TyrantWave 0 points1 point ago

Wow you're getting ripped off in the US.

[–]Anonazon2 0 points1 point ago

Yup and I got down toted for pointing that out, I guess

[–]bobwire42 -2 points-1 points ago

You just went full retard...

[–]CtrlC_plus_CtrlV 148 points149 points ago

@DaveChapelle has one tweet from May 2010: "Hi everybody". Don't attribute your jokes to comedians to make them seem funnier.

[–]bunglejerry 14 points15 points ago

Well at least it's a, gulp am I really saying this, relevant username.

If only the same rules applied IRL:

We miss you, Dave.

[–]HiImGarrett 1 point2 points ago

It was some random dude who tweeted it. Someone call OP last time on your claim and made him look like an ass. Current OP should feel worse for reposting a fake karmawhore post.

[–]pugwalker 1 point2 points ago

1 tweet, 22,000 followers

Count the p's, everybody.

[–]balleriffic 0 points1 point ago

I still read it in his voice

[–]rwhitisissle 0 points1 point ago

Eventually this will be the top comment. Just like it was the top comment the last time this was posted.

[–]SpicyBean 20 points21 points ago

If I had a nickel for every time I saw this line on reddit I would literally have a lot of nickels

[–]savageboredom 2 points3 points ago

So for whatever reason, the first time I read your post I thought you said "a ton of nickels." I decided to figure out how much money that would be, but then I realized you actually said "lot."

But the answer is $9071.85, in case anybody was wondering.

[–]SpicyBean 1 point2 points ago

I think I would rather have a ton than a lot

My kids got iPhones for Christmas. They are 12. It's ok if you wait a year, trust me I'm on the Internet.

[–]Rapplejab 2 points3 points ago

This may be relevant or not but Dave Chappelle had a twitter called ChappelleDavidk, now its suspended or something. Did he get a new one? or is this indeed Fake. Guess all i gotta do is believe. believe

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points ago

Listen, if it's your joke or a joke you heard but a celebrity comedian didn't post it somewhere, find the appropriate subreddit and self post there. No pictures of text is a rule here. Instead of bending the rules for karma go make a contribution to a relevant subreddit.

[–]Tier4 3 points4 points ago

a lot of kids have iphone handmedowns as their parents get newer phones, lots of them use them as media players or for games, so the fuck what

an iphone isn't an expensive, exclusive piece of technology unless you live in a hut

[–]whadupmfkr 1 point2 points ago

Isn't that a Katt Williams joke or something? Either way, downvote.

[–]CorporateImperialism 1 point2 points ago

If only iPhones actually made people happy they wouldn't be so sad

[–]catsmakeweirdnoises 1 point2 points ago

My cousin is 10 years old and has an iPhone and an iPad, and gets everything she asks for, for no reason. I'm 16 years old and I'm spending half my summer painting the inside of my house to earn enough money to buy one from virgin mobile, and to pay for the monthly bill. Seem a little backwards?

[–]advancenotice 0 points1 point ago

Sounds like your parents are raising you differently than her parents are raising her. You would think that with all the access you have to different cultures these days you'd realize this is a possibility.

[–]catsmakeweirdnoises 0 points1 point ago

It's not that, they just have money and we don't. I always think, "It's so close. That could have been me."

[–]mooseman182 1 point2 points ago

wow... I was reading it like i would sing it, and at the end my soul died a bit.

[–]hartnell19 0 points1 point ago

Jokes on you. I'm only 9.

[–]OnlySpoilers 0 points1 point ago

I guess it is true that some people will believe everything they see on the internet.

[–]fortrines 0 points1 point ago

I thought this was more of a commentary about how we're moving towards an age where every little emotion and every little details of our lives are being broadcast and saved to the internet, and that any show of weakness will be permanently attached to you. You'll no longer be able to move on or re-invent yourself if you used to be a pussy little bitch. It's not so much a scolding but a warning.

[–]b1gtym1n 0 points1 point ago

This is becoming increasingly reposted.

[–]Furfaidz 0 points1 point ago

I cant even recieve texts let alone send one. When I see little 5 year olds walking around alone in malls texting their friends I want to sock em in the face.

I lived with my mom and stepdad, and I didn't have a phone til I was 14 or 15. It was a shitty little thing, and my real dad was the one who got it for me, which is why I was allowed to keep it. My half-sister, though, she got an iPhone for her 11th birthday. And she complains about how her laptop is crappy and she needs an iPad....

[–]yumyumhelen 0 points1 point ago

I can relate, currently browsing reddit on my 10 year old sisters iPad, while she plays on her new r2d2 xbox 360 which she got not for her Christmas or birthday, just because she wanted one while she questions me on why I don't have xbox live, unable to understand how I could not be able to afford it.

My 10yo has asked for a phone...I told her once she can pay for it herself, and the monthly bill for it...

I don't foresee her getting employment for quite a while...

Son-of-a-bitch, I just dropped mine off to get sharpened... Anybody have an extra one I can borrow.

[–]nexus_5 -1 points0 points ago

Ok. You got me I have 2.

[–]Jesv 0 points1 point ago

Hell I'm 25 and just got my first android phone...

My 3 and 5 year old cousins have their own iPod touches. I mean yeah, best babysitter if you're doing other things around the house, but shit.

Damn, a child with an iPhone? Well, if six million Jews go missing I think I know who is responsible.

[–]lancex 0 points1 point ago

My 14 month old niece was just given her first iphone a few days ago. No lie.

Thanks for posting OP. People are complaining because it's a repost, but I've never seen it before so it's new to me and very true!

Ya, fuck people with things that I don't have.

[–]advancenotice -1 points0 points ago

It's not a waste. I can spend my money however I choose to. Last December I chose to use my money to buy my children iPhones. Now I choose to pay for their data usage every month. When you grow up and get a well paying job you may choose to buy whatever you wish.

Money- If you don't spend it, what the hell do you do with it?

[–]0210eddie1992 -2 points-1 points ago
