A) Hendo didn't know Bisping was out. His post-fight comments were a joke which he later clarified. Dana White confirms Hendo told him he had no idea. Keep in mind that this GIF is in very slow motion. B) He's not kissing his glove or pushing his mouth piece (or his teeth) back in. He doesn't actually touch his mouth. He is more than likely preparing a follow-up punch. Take a look at this other angle: http://i30.tinypic.com/339k93m.gif C) Hendo rules D) Bisping is a dingus

[–]octowussy 92 points93 points ago

For the record, the fact that he isn't kissing his fist is heartbreaking.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

i agree.

[–]Ninja4hire 0 points1 point ago

Don't worry Octowussy, History will remember it as Hendo kissing his glove before the follow up epic superman punch of death to the already sleeping grounded opponent.

[–]thesnakeinthegarden 16 points17 points ago

looks like a reset to me more than anything else. The return of hands to guard. I'm with you.

[–]octowussy 5 points6 points ago

Solid point. He's switched his stance and it would have been an extremely awkward position in which to throw a punch. So, yeah... definitely more defensive than offensive.

[–]Smokalotapotamus 1 point2 points ago

The footwork and way his upper body pulled back are the dead giveaways that he's not kissing his glove, but rather reseting back into defensive position because he's not sure where Dingus is going (turns out it was the mat).

[–]BongRipsPalin 1 point2 points ago

I think you nailed it. That's just some decent boxing training showing. You always want to reset your hands as quick as possible to minimize openings.

[–]Tongueout_Guillotine 14 points15 points ago

Damnit, upvote for speaking the truth...

Just know you've ruined what could have been a much better moment.

[–]octowussy 4 points5 points ago

I'm very sorry. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, right? Like I said, it's heartbreaking to me.

[–]Tongueout_Guillotine 2 points3 points ago

Is that you, Wes Sims?

[–]BokehBurgher 2 points3 points ago

I prefer how the OP says it happened, so that's it for me thank you. I do agree that Bisping is a dingus, and I'll add, a doofus.

[–]crabs_q 1 point2 points ago

God dammit, I wanted it to be true so bad. That would have been like some shit out of a movie. "Snatch" comes to mind.

[–]TheMeatball 1 point2 points ago

I personally think he went back on his story to avoid looking unprofessional, like an asshole, etc. "Damage control" if you will.

[–]octowussy 0 points1 point ago

If this is what you choose to believe, then that's fine, but Hendo has never given a shit about looking like an asshole (suggested Anderson is faking his injury, has called Jon Jones a fake, etc), especially when at the expense of a turd like Bisping. He had less than a second to follow-up the H-bomb -- far less before the telltale signs up being unconscious were obvious.

[–]automatedresponse 0 points1 point ago

Close enough

[–]jolleyho 0 points1 point ago

the ko looks better from this angle, Thank you.

[–]benjaminlane20 0 points1 point ago

One of the main tenets of any boxing is to return your fists to your face automatically after you punch so you can block any possible counters. This is just an instinctual reaction drilled into Hendo's muscle memory by countless hours of training.

[–]octowussy 0 points1 point ago

My initial reaction was that he was preparing to follow-up, but I've since corrected that. I've personally been boxing for about seven years, at this point.

[–]Raazzuls 0 points1 point ago

The other angle doesn't lie, Octowussy is correct.

[–]heyyouwtf 0 points1 point ago

This. It looks like he was bring his hands back up to block any counter punches. Training makes certain habits second nature.

[–]oest 0 points1 point ago

A) He said in the post fight interview that he knew he was out. ""Normally I'm not that way in fights. I know if the guy's out, I tend to stop."

[–]octowussy 1 point2 points ago

Which part of "His post-fight comments were a joke which he later clarified" are you not getting? http://mmajunkie.com/news/15523/dan-henderson-on-controversy-i-think-i-showed-good-sportsmanship-by-stopping-when-i-did.mma

[–]octowussy 1 point2 points ago

From the article:

"It wasn't the right thing to say, obviously," Henderson said on Tuesday. "It wasn't what I wanted to say. It was more of a joke that I was trying to intend. I do have a good sense of humor, and that probably didn't come out quite as funny as it should have."

Henderson said he didn't, in fact, know Bisping was knocked out cold. (In a post-event press conference, UFC president Dana White said that Henderson told him the same thing and had apologized for his comments.)

"It wasn't intentional," Henderson said. "I didn't know he was completely knocked out or done until after that second punch, and that's exactly when I stopped. And I've hit guys just as hard almost right on the button like that (first shot), and they fall down, and the fight continues because maybe I didn't land the second shot right or the ref feels like that [my opponent] is still able to defend himself and he squeaks past and holds on. But I didn't want that to happen. That's why I was on him so quick with the second punch."

During a 12-year career spent mostly with the UFC and PRIDE, Henderson said he's learned to finish opponents once they're in a vulnerable state. Besides, he said, in that split second between the time the first punch landed and he reared up for the second, he didn't have to assess Bisping's state.

[–]teamshred 0 points1 point ago

yeah man, as Nick Diaz would say, it's whatever.

it's not Hendo's job to protect his opponent, it's the the opponent's and ref's job. The ref was way out of position.

[–]zombizle1 33 points34 points ago

This looks like it may be shopped, but I don't know enough about the revolutionary war to dispute it.

[–]iwanttogotohell 7 points8 points ago

Too bad it looks like the British fired Hendo at Bisping. :(

[–]spottie_ottie 9 points10 points ago

close enough

[–]El_Zombie 1 point2 points ago

That's from Glory, right?

[–]JudoTrip 1 point2 points ago

The Patriot

[–]Bentley31 47 points48 points ago

Why hold him down, when I could just stare him down

[–]Miethos 10 points11 points ago

[–]Bentley31 0 points1 point ago

You sir, are doing the lords work.

[–]Tongueout_Guillotine 17 points18 points ago

I was cracking up when Joe Rogan was talking about this story.

DAN IS THE MAN

[–]Bentley31 11 points12 points ago

It's just the best fucking story i've ever heard. It's so true what he was saying, a tv writer could spend 16 hours and a full ounce of coke and never come up with a line as stone cold hard as that. It's just fucking rock solid.

[–]Tongueout_Guillotine 3 points4 points ago

TESTIFY!

[–]dangeraardvark 3 points4 points ago

Was that from the Sonnen episode? Can't remember. Wanna listen again.

[–]Bentley31 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, just after the middle somewhere.

[–]mitchard 27 points28 points ago

I never noticed that the bottle cap on the canvas makes him look like he is wearing a silly hat as he gets murdered.

[–]The_Flabbergaster 3 points4 points ago

[–]chelloveck 2 points3 points ago

It's like a white Devo hat.

[–]fpspwnr 3 points4 points ago

Declaration of Hendopendence

[–]zombizle1 4 points5 points ago

this needs to replace the "H bomb" asap

[–]automatedresponse -4 points-3 points ago

oh lulz i laughed

[–]kodat 0 points1 point ago

hilarious

[–]HTP5 18 points19 points ago

Or he trains to bring his hand back up after throwing a punch.

[–]Bentley31 6 points7 points ago

Exactly! proper punching technique.

[–]liquid-gator 7 points8 points ago

It'd be a good telegram. "From Hendo, with love."

[–]wolflion 3 points4 points ago

mmmmno

[–]Bentley31 3 points4 points ago

That is just proper punch technique. The reverse angle, kindly uploaded by octowussy shows his hand stays a solid 3 inches from his face. He's just pulling his arm back to the guard position.

[–]ecnedivorp 3 points4 points ago

That is one of the most vicious KO's ever.

[–]CtrlC_plus_CtrlV 2 points3 points ago

"Please, sir, may I have another?"

[–]RealHero 5 points6 points ago

at a seminar my school gave two months after Hendo did this, he told me that even though tons of fans had been going up to him and thanking him for knocking out Bisping, Hendo said something along the lines of "trust me, i'm happy with myself for doing it too"

i was a staff writer for MMALinker (2 years ago when they did that stuff) and i wrote an article about the seminar and my moment talking with him. maybe i could dig it up if anyone is interested.

[–]454bosslife 10 points11 points ago

Bisping would get destroyed by Anderson

[–]Raazzuls 18 points19 points ago

You could replace "Bisping" with pretty much any name but "Godzilla" and that would be an accurate statement.

[–]Bentley31 22 points23 points ago

I dunno, Godzilla tends to rush opponents. That's just playing into Anderson's game...

[–]Arrrrrmondo 1 point2 points ago

Gabe Ruediger is 155, mang.

[–]muayguy 1 point2 points ago

I once got banned from a forum for calling Gabe a coward... I'd watch out if I were you,... I think he owns the internet

[–]Arrrrrmondo 1 point2 points ago

My response was merely clarification!

[–]plasmalaser1 5 points6 points ago

Bisping would get destroyed by Anderson

Everyone would get destroyed by Anderson

[–]savutano 4 points5 points ago

I could watch that all day.

[–]aksoileau 1 point2 points ago

Just the weight he throws down on his face when he's down... Brutal but a thing of beauty.

[–]Bentley31 1 point2 points ago

His fist hits bisping before the rest of his body lands. It's pretty fucking flawless technique.

[–]Reggaejunkiejew31 1 point2 points ago

I've seen this gif reposted here and a dozen other places so many times. It never gets old and I always find myself watching over and over and over.

[–]NoCLeverNameHere 1 point2 points ago

This was one of the most satisfying things I have ever seen in the UFC.

[–]chingchongmakahaya 1 point2 points ago

kisses glove goodnight sweet prince

[–]BreakfastGuru 1 point2 points ago

I think this was my greatest moment in my history of being an MMA fan. So. Fucking. Vicious.

[–]Hyena_Gold 0 points1 point ago

/r/mma have such a hardon for Bisping to fail. How old is this fight and you still go on about it

[–]dat_kapital 1 point2 points ago

why shouldn't we still be going on about the greatest moment in mma american history?

[–]JudoTrip 1 point2 points ago

It should go on forever.

The day Bisping retires, this gif will be posted 23 times.

[–]muayguy 1 point2 points ago

you should check sherdog... I dare you to find a thread where they are talking about Bisping where this gif doesn't come out.

[–]lif0 0 points1 point ago

good eye!

[–]beau5peterson 0 points1 point ago

Goodnight!!

[–]GroundhogExpert 0 points1 point ago

Fighters are trained HARD to keep their hands up. You'll often see fighters obsessed with touching their face, this is a reminder to keep their hands in a guarded position. So IF Hendo kissed his fist, which I don't think he did(but the gif still looks hilarious), then it would likely be from a career of training for that habit.

[–]Kozbot 0 points1 point ago

FUCKING BADASS IS WHAT THIS IS

[–]Miethos 0 points1 point ago

he was just pushing his mouth piece back in.

[–]zombizle1 4 points5 points ago

Although this is a plausible theory, from another angle you can see that his hand doesn't actually touch his mouth. Good guess, though.

[–]Reggaejunkiejew31 2 points3 points ago

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

[–]Mortschlag 0 points1 point ago

Even as a Bisping fan, I do love Hendo/Bisping gifs, memes and whatnot.

[–]kylecorsiglia27 -1 points0 points ago

Fixied- 'Hendo kisses H-Bomb before delivering final right hand to Bisping's face' ....that totally wasn't a forearm

[–]Like_Wild_Potato -5 points-4 points ago

How did I never see that before?

[–]Tongueout_Guillotine 1 point2 points ago

That's what I was thinking, it makes this moment so much better.

[–]ChipChase 1 point2 points ago

Because it didn't happen.
