I understand what's going on, I think, but there is still a huge question that remains unanswered, every time I see this:

WHY did she think that her kid should do that?

I don't even mean the pageant or the television show or any of that, I'm specifically talking about those two.. I don't know, "dance" moves.

I watched this episode of toddlers and tiaras ( my kids call it toddlers and tantrums) and during the interview the mom burps mid-sentence and keeps right on talking. I'm sure the cameraman wanted to vomit after that burp got blown in his face!

Ya know, here's my thing. I've seen this show and as disgusted as I am, on every level, this exact thing is one of the most upsetting to me. I was subjected to that indignity from 3 to 14. But it was different back then - yeah, there was loads of makeup and the big hair and heavy dresses and hours of practicing - and the eventual emotional breakdown of a little girl learning to define her entire person based upon how pretty other people think she is. But that's neither here nor there.

We actually had talent. We had to dance and sing and some of those girls were gymnasts. I, personally, tap danced. 3 years old and I tapped my little heart out. What is this wiggling their hips and flapping their arms crap these kids are doing out there now? It's embarrassing. When they grow up to be strippers, how are they going to have any rhythm? The next generation's men will just be looking at women standing on a stage wiggling around. It's a travesty, I tell you.

*Note - I did not grow up to be a stripper. But if I had, I'd have been a damned good one.
