That's in Oregon, not California.

[–]devinliam 54 points55 points ago

I can't express how mad this being labelled as "California" makes me. I live 20 minutes from here.

[–]markevens 14 points15 points ago

Fellow Portlander?

[–]rokimaru 0 points1 point ago

Count me in.

[–]NoKnees99 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, this is my favorite hike period.

[–]moonpiez 4 points5 points ago

Same! I've gone three times this summer already :)

[–]Pit_of_Death 1 point2 points ago

Living in California, I can't express how mad I was when I searched Google in vain for how close I was to it!

[–]TheDigitalHippies 0 points1 point ago

Could you pinpoint this on a google map for me? I'm gonna travel the country somewhat soon and would love to add this to my list of places to see.

[–]thebeardedone666 0 points1 point ago

Here is all the info you need good sir. By the way this is not in California its in the great state of OREGON. Hope you can make it out here to our great state, and to the falls.

We will make it to Oregon, we have family there. Also it's a top contender for our final destination and our new home.

[–]thebeardedone666 1 point2 points ago

NICE! Oregon is great! I've loved every second of it. And I've lived here my whole life. Only reason I would want to move from here is because of the USA's shitty government. Also if you want another REALLY good hike here's one. Warning thought its a hard one. A lot of uphill switch backs. But the views are most defiantly worth it. I just did it today. Also you don't even need to go all the way, their are many many great views threw out the whole trail. So if you'r not looking for a hard hike, but want great views I'd suggest just doing a couple of miles.

Thanks for the great info! I'd have my wife and toddler with me, so the shorter the hike the better. The scenery is what I want to see.

Hey, you have a beard too! Rock on! My 1 year beardaversary is in about a month.

[–]thebeardedone666 1 point2 points ago

Then I suggest not doing this hick. It's not really toddler friendly. Same with getting to Punch Bowl. Its straight up hill from the start, and pretty much along a whole side of a cliff. Some parts have wire handles to hold onto, but not really.

Hell yeah man! Congrats! I just passed my two year on the 11th. Witch so happens to be my birthday also. Decided to give my self a present two years ago. Sure it's taken a long time to get to where it is now. But I do not regret a single moment of it.

[–]TheDigitalHippies 0 points1 point ago

My b-day is the 9th. First time I've had a beard, but I like having it. I don't like the way it looks, but I still like having it. I need to find a hair style, and a inspiration beard. Since I don't know the style I'm going for, it's just kind of there. Here is my progress for the first year. Many trims, so I don't know how full it can really get. http://imgur.com/a/KkJXU

As a Hood Riverian, I came here to say the same thing. Glad it was already done.

Oregon > California

Uh, you wrote the title and got it wrong, so, technically, it is your fault.

[–]roxychick4327 3 points4 points ago

awww man. i was like "california!?! where exactly? im going!" and then this... :(

[–]jmckee 0 points1 point ago

Suck it California. Our wilderness is better than your wilderness!

[–]inqurious 14 points15 points ago

Suck it California. Our wilderness is better wetter than your wilderness!

[–]rivanio 6 points7 points ago

Sorry, I can't hear you.

You'll have to speak up.

[–]inqurious 4 points5 points ago

Hey, Oregon's gorgeous. Not saying CA is better, but that Oregon isn't.

Also, let's not get into a contest of who can link more photos. California is too big.

[–]rallison 2 points3 points ago

Nice selection of shots. Of course, this is California. I've lived in CA for for all of my life (save a few years here and there), and I am far from done exploring its natural wonders.

[–]rokimaru 1 point2 points ago

Inyo national forest, mono craters, death valley, that's enough for a lifetime

[–]omi_palone 0 points1 point ago

I didn't grow up in California, but I've been slack-jawed during most of my travels during the 4 years I've lived here. The first time I drove through the Sierras, Yosemite, Mono, etc. I was like, "oh my god, I'm going to get beauty-jaded."

[–]ChastitysBono 1 point2 points ago

I simply don't have enough upvotes. What a beautiful series of photos. A few years ago, I moved away from my home state of California to a flat landscape with few (if any) natural wonders. This reminds me what I'm missing and makes me nostalgic.

[–]ericphilbin 1 point2 points ago

California native here. Indeed, those are gorgeous places, and I genuinely feel a lesser person for not having visited Oregon yet. Soon.

But, it's like bringing a gun to a knife fight.

(Not hating on Oregon, just a reminder that whatever else California is, we have bad-ass Yosemite)

[–]tsissing 5 points6 points ago

I just traveled through both. California was much more impressive, IMO.

[–]lerchmo 0 points1 point ago

yes. Amazing hike!

[–]dipcity 0 points1 point ago

Sshhh! Let them think it's in Cali.

[–]meowbarkhiss 28 points29 points ago

If you don't know that this is in Oregon (not even close to CA - it's up by Portland), then you didn't take it. Give credit to the photographer.

The easiest way would be to make sure you only get photos from a source where they are posted directly by the original photographer (flickr pages, for example). This should help you figure out the real location as well.

[–]deepintheorchard -2 points-1 points ago

.....what?

[–]B_Provisional 14 points15 points ago

The state legislature in Salem convened for a special session this afternoon. OP is henceforth considered a persona non grata in the State or Oregon.

To quote an incensed representative from Multnomah County, "We will not stand for this degree of malarkey. The internet is serious business."

[–]ClassicalQuack 8 points9 points ago

California has a place known as the Punch Bowls... but this isn't it.

[–]telecomwarrior 1 point2 points ago

Though it is beautiful as well...maybe not so much lately if the trash/graffiti problem hasn't gotten better. :/ at least there is a water slide.

[–]Sheeps 1 point2 points ago

Was there less than a month ago and almost every surface was covered in graffiti from the trail head on up to the punch bowls. Really took away from how awesome the hike was.

[–]FuzzyLogic01 2 points3 points ago

Looks like the waterfall from that old pic circulating the net where they shopped a scantily-clad, water-drenched woman in the foreground and added the caption "No idea how this works, but if you stare at it for 5 minutes you can see a waterfall in the background."

[–]IATEBACON 2 points3 points ago

Hiked there last week!

[–]imabanana13 1 point2 points ago

Great place to cliff jump

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

hello new wallpaper

[–]notgoodatkarma 1 point2 points ago

Wow it's weird to be redditting along and all of a sudden your current desktop appears.

[–]iffy525 1 point2 points ago

I've swam right down that waterfall. Also this picture makes the cliffs look much shorter than they actually are.

[–]nardsy13 1 point2 points ago

I did that hike with my 9,5, and 2 years..... I have gray hair now... Also the water is soooo cold year round

[–]daitheFLeA 1 point2 points ago

Seriously. This California business needs to be fixed, pronto. I am losing it over here.

[–]vortex320 1 point2 points ago

Great, now I've got semen all over my good jeans. Thanks a lot.

[–]jlhw 4 points5 points ago

Downvoted for California

[–]DrScroatee 1 point2 points ago

Needs moar green, it doesn't look photoshopped enough

[–]seaofcheese 4 points5 points ago

http://i.imgur.com/WgXTa.jpg Took This a couple months ago with my cell phone. It is hard to get way out there with out getting wet.

[–]rivanio -2 points-1 points ago

I've been there dozens of times, I promised it's not photoshopped.

[–]burning_consciousnes 4 points5 points ago

I'm a photographer and been there many a time as well. I will bet three goats that it has had the saturation turned up as well as the contrast.

[–]Oathbroken 3 points4 points ago

Way too much aftereffects and photoshop stuff and/or exposure stuff. Meh.

[–]burning_consciousnes 2 points3 points ago

Yes, the art of post processing involves subtle adjustments. Whoever edited this relied much too much on photoshop!

[–]Zen1 0 points1 point ago

Are there even ANY "aftereffect" on this? All I can tell is that it's a long exposure shot, can't really see any needless HDR-ing. SOURCE: I am from Oregon and grew up less than an hour from here, this is how the forest actually looks.

[–]bebopblues 0 points1 point ago

There's definitely enhancement with the green filter or as in photoshop terms, its a green colorized layer overlay on top of the original. Example:

Original and Colorized Overlay.

[–]Zen1 0 points1 point ago

Maybe my camera just takes off-color pictures, but the OP's pic is about the hue that I'm used to seeing Oregon foliage at. (At work so I can't post an example, sorry) If it was photoshopped, I would bet they changed the green curve or boosted green saturation, not just a simple colored translucent overlay.

EDIT: Hmm, googled punchbowl fall and I guess the image IS enhanced, different hue of greenery than the other pictures available, i take it back

[–]bebopblues 0 points1 point ago

I thought my before and after example is pretty evident that it was enhanced.

[–]greggram 0 points1 point ago

Gainered son

[–]stanleypolley123 0 points1 point ago

Yo... This is from the land of the empire builders... Land of the golden west... Conquered and held by free men, fairest and te best :p:p:p

[–]taterlegs 0 points1 point ago

Notably, Punchbowl falls was featured in an Olympia ad, though they did not come right out and claim that the falls was in Tumwater, Wa.

[–]eers2snow 0 points1 point ago

OREGON

[–]jasonracey 0 points1 point ago

I hiked this trail. It was swarming with hoards of tourons. There was actually a line of people waiting to take this same photograph.

[–]lovetosuck_donuts 0 points1 point ago

By far the best video from that place. Cliff jumping! Only reason I recognized it.

[–]whyismynameori 0 points1 point ago

Another good but grueling hike aside from mt. Defiance is dog mountain on the washington side. Gorgeous views of the gorge.

[–]AsianWannabe 0 points1 point ago

definitely read as punchbowl fail.

[–]Pit_of_Death 0 points1 point ago

Yes, I'm Californian so I'm biased towards it, but I'll just say it - the West Coast is the best coast! There, Oregonians and Californians - everyone is happy now!
