53% of people know that a 1st Ed Charizard is worth more than $20.

[–]Phreshzilla 59 points60 points ago

Well if the 21000 people got that card, it wouldn't be worth 60+, I would get the 20 and probably save for a pkmn game.

[–]Isayimanatheist 42 points43 points ago

I interpreted that as pikmin instead of pokemon.

[–]Phreshzilla 2 points3 points ago

I still read it pk-mn. (literal interpretation)

[–]Isayimanatheist 0 points1 point ago

By pk, you mean like the way ness says pk fire in smash bros?

[–]Phreshzilla 2 points3 points ago

Nah like trying to say words without vowels. PUHKKKMMMMNNN

[–]Isayimanatheist 1 point2 points ago

I'm just imagining ash without teeth now.

[–]Battletooth 3 points4 points ago

I did too until I read your comment.

[–]CharlestonChewbacca 1 point2 points ago

Considering the situation is hypothetical anyway, one would logically be led to believe that the hypothetical situation involves only you getting it.

[–]cobemonkey 6 points7 points ago

It actually is! These cards could sell up to $60.

[–]highTrolla 16 points17 points ago

Doesn't even compare to some of the thousand dollar magic cards I've seen.

[–]cheezeizgood 17 points18 points ago

Lol Black Lotus

[–]highTrolla 3 points4 points ago

That, and the Mox cards, even if they're closer to a few hundred.

[–]krispwnsu 0 points1 point ago

I hate that mix cards even exist, but I totally want them all to myself.

[–]DanCarlson 1 point2 points ago

I have some friends who are avid Magic players. They have 3 Black Lotus cards. Lucky bastards.

[–]stirfrizzle 2 points3 points ago

I've seen PSA 10 1st edition Charizards go for up to $700-$1000. Sure, it's a little less than an alpha edition of Black Lotus, but still nothing to scoff at.

[–]nickfromredcliff 1 point2 points ago

So I could have 20 dollars now or I could have a card which I then have to take pictures of, post on eBay, wait for the auction to expire, maaaaaaaaybe get 60 bucks for it (Which eBay takes something insane like 9% of) , then I have to go and mail the card to some guy who knows where?

I'm sorry, but if someone walks up to me with the card in one hand and twenty bucks in the other I'm taking the 20 bucks.

[–]LeoL87 1 point2 points ago

Last I knew..that card is worth $120. *15 yrs ago

[–]nickfromredcliff 0 points1 point ago

Guy said 'up to 60.' I have no idea so I took him at his word.

[–]cobemonkey 1 point2 points ago

did you try amazon *hint

[–]LeoL87 0 points1 point ago

:D I was basing it from when I used to play

[–]Skittls 0 points1 point ago

Which is why I am desperately trying to find mine. My cousin gave it to me for christmas when I was 6 and now, after 12-ish years, I can't find the damn thing. 6-year-old me had no idea what he possessed. I am ashamed of 6-year-old me. It doesn't help that my little brother repeatedly stole it, though.

[–]evand4567 0 points1 point ago

Or at least believe it is worth $20 to them.

[–]lizlegit000 0 points1 point ago

I saw that one of those cards are worth around 200 hundred dollars.

[–]ZaneMasterX 0 points1 point ago

Ive sold plenty of 1st edition charizard cards for more than $300.

[–]mrbananas 2 points3 points ago

only if you can find a buyer

[–]FattyMcPatty 31 points32 points ago

I'm surprised we're not all tired of this thing yet

[–]frostynips 17 points18 points ago

Speak for yourself, this is karma whoring at its finest

[–]FattyMcPatty 3 points4 points ago

There's hardly even any substance to them. What's the point again?

[–]frostynips 0 points1 point ago

Sweet sweet karmic relief

[–]TheDreadGazeebo 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, I'm getting sick of these posts.

[–]FattyMcPatty 2 points3 points ago

As soon as I saw that there were 3 on the site, I knew people were going to be abusing the shit out of the site. All I can glean from these posts is "Look more/less people enjoy my fandom as compared to some other fandom"

But what else is there to it? Feels like funnyjunk.

[–]TheDreadGazeebo 1 point2 points ago

Yeah. they really don't prove anything or provoke any kind of interesting discussion. it's basically just "look at what some idiots on this website voted for on a meaningless poll". snore. I didn't even know this site existed before the flood of reddit posts with screenshots, and i already hate it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I still don't know what the website is called.

[–]MrFatCactus 11 points12 points ago

what is this app? I see it on here all the time.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points ago

You rather

[–]MrFatCactus 0 points1 point ago

thanks!

[–]Shruiken 3 points4 points ago

My best friend has a 1st edition Holo-Charizard. Bids, anyone?

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points ago

I'll trade you a gold nugget and my level 70 scyther

[–]Im_licking_cats 10 points11 points ago

Only if you put a metal coat on it.

[–]Armadylspark 11 points12 points ago

How'd he trade the nugget then?

[–]Kniggits 6 points7 points ago

best I can do is a steel gem

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Sounds good

[–]JangSaverem -1 points0 points ago

Ill take the gold nugget...you can keep the Scyther

[–]Girolmao 1 point2 points ago

$5

[–]TennuyanRyu 0 points1 point ago

I'll tickle you with a feather for about 15 secs, then hug you for 10. Best offer.

[–]mistalazer 4 points5 points ago

I had one when I was 9. Older kid told me a steelix was way cooler and I traded it. One of the worst decisions of my life...

[–]V1bration 5 points6 points ago

I'd love that Charizard... but honestly, I'm not too big on the cards, so I'll take the money. If I knew someone who would buy it, then yeah, I'd take it.

[–]ArgonWolf 2 points3 points ago

Just saying a first edition shadowless is worth $100

[–]splashattack 1 point2 points ago

All first edition base set charizards are shadowless. Just sayin.

[–]splashattack -5 points-4 points ago

This is false. I know it because I am a pokemon expert.

[–]Fefnir60 6 points7 points ago

Why did you just reply to yourself?

[–]splashattack 6 points7 points ago

Because of troll boyfriend on my account.

[–]zeusfireair 2 points3 points ago

wait... WHAT?

[–]ZaneMasterX 0 points1 point ago

Actually its worth more than $200 if its in good condition. A PSA 10 1st edition Charizard is worth $1700+ and yes, I have seen them sell for that. I have sold plenty of 1st edition Charizard cards for over $300.

[–]949paintball 2 points3 points ago

Isn't that worth more than $20 anyway?

[–]Strafeh 1 point2 points ago

Or they really like charizard

[–]akgamestar 1 point2 points ago

Seriously to hell with a $20.

[–]bindsaybindsay 1 point2 points ago

8 year old me had one of those. Then I sold it to my brothers friend for 5 dollars.

[–]King_Pumpernickel 1 point2 points ago

What people don't seem to understand is that if everybody got a 1st edition Holo Charizard, it wouldn't be worth anything, and no one would buy it, so you're stuck with a cool looking card. If you get $20, well, you get $20.

Forgive me if I said something wrong or insulted your 1st edition Holo Charizard, I was never really into the card game.

[–]ytayj 0 points1 point ago

If everyone got $20, this would be a form of deflation (I think) and change the value of the dollar.

[–]King_Pumpernickel 0 points1 point ago

Maybe, but is $20 really enough to make a huge impact on the economy?

[–]ytayj 1 point2 points ago

Sure, if everyone in America got it as a surplus.

[–]hurf_mcdurf 0 points1 point ago

What an ignorant statement, the situation works identically on both sides if you're taking it to the extreme of "everyone gets Charizard or $20."

[–]Holy90 1 point2 points ago

Everyone in the US gets $20, that's 311,591,917 * $20 = $6.2bn or roughly 0.5% of the US national debt.
Now, everyone gets a card instead, assuming that thing's actually rare, say 10,000 in total, you're increasing the amount of that card by 31,000%.
So, everyone gets $20, which is only worth $19.90 compared with the day before this happens, or everyone gets a the card, the consensus seems to be that this card is worth $60 or so, but devalued due to hyper devaluation to about 0.2¢. I'll take the money, thanks.

What an ignorant statement...

In thought experiments like this, with no obvious answer, no relevant statements are ignorant.

EDIT: Let's say only the people who voted in that poll get their wish, that's an additional $400,000, making no discernible difference to the value of the dollar, still invalidating your argument. (And 20,000 more rare cards, making them substantially less rare, devaluing them still.)

[–]King_Pumpernickel 0 points1 point ago

I did say "sorry if I said something wrong." I was never good at this economic kind of stuff.

[–]SenorHedgehog 1 point2 points ago

My brother had a shiny Charizard...he threw it along with the rest of his cards down a grate. Needless to say rage ensued

[–]AustNerevar 1 point2 points ago

6% difference? WHAT THE FUCK!?

[–]Magmortar 4 points5 points ago

I got two and im very proud if them http://imgur.com/Xj7es

[–]SaentFu 8 points9 points ago

I have 3x Blastoise, but I actually used them in my deck so they're not even close to mint condition.

You see, I played the card game as a card game... silly me.

[–]Sara_Tonin 2 points3 points ago

You FOOL

[–]PhatSoxx 6 points7 points ago

not first edition, but still cool!

[–]The-shindigs 2 points3 points ago

How much are they worth if they aren't first edition?

I just went through my binder and I've got 4 of those, but none are 1st edition.

[–]NewDrekSilver -5 points-4 points ago

[–]Chakki 2 points3 points ago

No, note the "1st edition" symbol to the left of the Pokemon Power text on the google results.

[–]NewDrekSilver 2 points3 points ago

Ah ok, my mistake I didn't know how the different editions work.

[–]WorstPossibleAnswer -1 points0 points ago

What app is this?

[–]the22ndquincy 0 points1 point ago

That's not a very bad answer.

The app is You Rather.

[–]NewDrekSilver 0 points1 point ago

I have both :D

[–]nat5ndotcom 0 points1 point ago

I heard the card is over $100

[–]Rabb1eRabb1e 0 points1 point ago

Damn it i gave mine to my little cousins

[–]Ovreel 0 points1 point ago

Hey, I have one of those.

[–]rokinlobster 0 points1 point ago

I ruined my pokemon card collection trading for this destroyed non holo charizard when i was young.

[–]CSMastermind 0 points1 point ago

Hey I have one of those! I collected pokemon cards for like 1 month during 6th grade, that thing was my prized possession. Value wise it's probably worth no where near what some of my Magic cards are though.

[–]Chehade 0 points1 point ago

I actually have a 2nd Edition Holo Charizard, and can remember the exact moment that I opened the pack from my Easter basket and screamed.

[–]Irunwithagun 0 points1 point ago

I used to have one of those things, I didn't know the value of it, but I loved it because it was a charizard and was awesome. Then one day one of my scumbag friends "borrowed" it from me to play someone but instead, traded it with one of his friends for some crappier cards. I asked for it back and he gave me the cards he traded for. I was not amused

TL;DR never let your friends near your first addition holographic charizard

[–]Nintendork64 0 points1 point ago

Okay, now what would be the answer, assuming you couldn't sell the card?

[–]ZaneMasterX 0 points1 point ago

I have 3 1st edition charizard cards...2 are PSA 8 and 1 is PSA 9.

[–]reddit_hates_me 0 points1 point ago

because the majority of the people taking this quiz are under the age of 12 and have never SEEN a first edition holo charizard...

[–]DunmerBattlemage 0 points1 point ago

I would go with the card not for the price....for the rarity. something to play with if i was into pokemon (TCG). However, i didnt care for the TCG due to the lack of strategy. i have an amazing Yugioh collection and im into MTG though

[–]srob101 0 points1 point ago

Some mother fucker stole my 1st E. Charizard at a family backyard BBQ.

I wish I knew who it was...

[–]NateVarmac 0 points1 point ago

I'd be part of the 47%. I never have really cared much about the cards (it's always been about the games for me), and so I'd take the money.

Today I learned something that my lack of caring about the card game kept me from knowing. Hm.

[–]WhitePostIt 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure the card costs more than the 20, especially in prime mint condition.

[–]claudesoph 0 points1 point ago

Still way too high.

[–]Spuder 0 points1 point ago

My step dad claimed he had one. He died a few months ago and I told my brother ( his only biological child ) to make sure he gets it from the estate his new girlfriend is in possession of. I hope it's true, would really like to see it in person.

[–]DrHustle11 0 points1 point ago

What is this app?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

You rather

[–]livers 0 points1 point ago

I have three? I was a pretty agressive little kid.

[–]dinofan01 0 points1 point ago

I'd take the twenty bucks. I already have my Charizard card and don't plan on selling any Charizard I get my hands on. It would be note beneficial to get the twenty dollars.

[–]Shruiken -3 points-2 points ago

....

..........

...............

What's it's nature?

[–]BlueFooLeaf 5 points6 points ago

I think it has a cardy nature.

Thank you and good night!

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Armadylspark 2 points3 points ago

You could sell if for 60 bucks.

[–]PookieFlynn -1 points0 points ago

Law of supply and demand, people. If all those people had the card it would be essentially worthless. With that many people going for it, take the 20 bucks, you'll be better off and can buy the card, likely for a single dollar.

[–]Sir_T-Bagalot -2 points-1 points ago

Whoa! I was playing Would You Rather yesterday and saw that same question! I knew this would be on Reddit!

[–]ortega792 -2 points-1 points ago

I have one :) he's my childhood Charizard!

[–]scattycake -2 points-1 points ago

I have it!

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]PhatSoxx -2 points-1 points ago

ebay.

[–]AdmiralQuackbar 1 point2 points ago

But... but... they're in my deck!

[–]TennuyanRyu 0 points1 point ago

Send me that deck and I'll make ya something in return...a card... maybe an item...

[–]AdmiralQuackbar 0 points1 point ago

Seems legit!
