Actually, when I had one of those miracle fruit tablets (the things that make sour and bitter foods taste sweet), lemons tasted almost exactly like synthetic lemon flavour. I assume that synthetic lemon flavour is more or less correct, but seems odd because it's sweet instead of sour.

Really? I saw a thread where someone stated the majority of fat people are lazy. I personally feel that is a generalization and many people could feel wrongly accused... The downvotes that guy got though for a opinion that is semi-solid. (Lazy people are more likely to be on the fatter end then non lazy people) People were commenting about how he was a terrible person and should not judge others and so much arguing because of him saying the majority of fat people are lazy.

Well, I might have a case of confirmation bias, but I've seen a whole lot of pictures posted where someone who happened to be overweight was there, and the comment section exploded into an orgy of "PUT DOWN THE SAMMICH!" (Mostly in /r/funny or /r/wtf, if I recall correctly.)

I think my favorite thing about the massive BS in that ad is the obvious attempts to take the already shady statistics look more in their favor. Notice they reduced 25% to the "ridiculously huge" 1 in 4 but didn't reduce 2% to 1/50 or the later number to 1/1000.

I didn't believe your statement at first, but I did a quick google(how fucking amazing is the future!) search to see if what the demographics were. according to this you are correct about more black people living in the south.

According to the Agriculture Resource Marketing Center, "The top five states in U.S. watermelon production, accounting for more than 75 percent of the total production, were Florida, California, Texas, Georgia and Indiana." So 3 of five regions are in "the south". They don't give any breakdowns of how much each state makes so I can't say that California makes 40% of the top fives' worth of watermelon... They also say women eat more watermelon than men, but don't get into race.

I can't find consumption rates by region, easily at least, but those numbers could help a little.

Another watermelon tidbit from wikipedia... "The citrulline in watermelon (especially in the rind) is a known stimulator of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is thought to relax and expand blood vessels, much like the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, and may even increase libido.[29]"

And now you know..... And knowing is half the fried chicken.

To add onto what elastic is saying.my google-tu is failing me so this is from memory.

When silent movies first came out someone made a film a a bunch of Negros men eating watermelon. They were mugging it for the camera, goofing off, and making silly faces while spitting out the seeds. Basically acting like men.

It was well received by audiences and they even made a sequel featuring even more Negros and their watermelon eating hijinks. So the association of black people and watermelon pretty much hit everyone in the nation at about the same time(well any town with a theater).

People thought it was funny, told their friends about it, then graphic artwork and short cartoons sprung up everywhere to repeat the joke and offer variations on it to keep it fresh. Basically it's a pre Internet meme

When I first looked this up I thought it was really weird black people eating watermelon could warrant a sequel, but then I realized there are millions of cat and laughing baby vuds on youtube so its not that far fetched.
