I'm surprised the kid got that for into the block. I did marching band ten years and one rule that was lethally enforced was to never let anyone break ranks. Parade block formation is meant to be impenetrable for the safety of spectators, bandsmen, and the instruments. I'm not excusing the tuba player, but this mentality is almost certainly what triggered his (over)reaction.

That is true, but it's really hard for sousa players to block people.

I was a euphonium player and it was really easy

Because sousaphone players are top heavy, dealing with children can be difficult. But I can't imagine anyone in low-brass, especially tubas, not relishing the idea of clobbering an adult (esp. drunken fans) in the face or pushing them aside for breaking ranks.

I mean also the whole thing with their arms being stuck and you cant move the sousa much without making it really obvious

Honestly I would clobber anyone who broke ranks

Obviously not, I wouldn't actually punch anybody either, I would politely raise my instrument or my hand and say "Sir/Ma'am, please do not walk through the band"
