That's me!!! Evolutionist, Bisexual, closeted teenage jackass Liberal and Environmentalist from good 'ole Texas..... Seriously. I have nine hours left.

Frankly, I'm used to the homophobia and intolerance. I find it incredibly comical, actually. Their pseudoscientific claims about Biology are the best!

[–]Nayko 0 points1 point ago

I'm everything you are except somewhat liberal and not a closeted atheist. I just told my parents something along the lines of "i dont believe in that stuff " and it worked for me. I didnt mention the word atheist, just had a logical discussion about how religion isnt for me. Good luck

[–]shooter190 0 points1 point ago

I wish it went as good for me.

[–]Nashucus 4 points5 points ago

thanks op, i appreciate it :)

[–]lookingforaTARDIS 5 points6 points ago

I wish it was that easy. Today I woke up at 6 for a week long mission trip in NC. Help.

[–]insomni666 1 point2 points ago

Bring atheist books disguised in different book covers. That's what I always did when I was being watched like a hawk by religious zealots.

[–]lookingforaTARDIS 0 points1 point ago

Haha good idea. I was able to bring a couple books (Cosmos, Carl Sagans of course, and Neil DeGrassi Tyson's Death by Black Hole). Usually a mission trip wouldn't be a problem but my older brother, who is also an atheist, had to go to his MEPs(for the Marines) in Richmond. So I'm surrounded.

[–]iconrunner 0 points1 point ago

Damn NC. You have my sympathy.

[–]Adept128 0 points1 point ago

Just did the same thing for a mission trip in West Virginia a week ago. I was not too happy, to say the least.

[–]Morphdog9819 2 points3 points ago

This made my day. I love you, man.

[–]Reject-Of-Rejects 6 points7 points ago

I'm just bored. I thankfully don't attend church. None of my family members do. We were all raised catholic but stopped caring when we started to see that we don't need it to be good people. The only one that still believes is my grandma. I don't mind her belief in it. It's been her entire life. She doesn't know my views because of a language barrier, but I fucking love her. If there is a heaven, damn right she should be the ruler of it. Sweetest lady ever.

I usually spend the entire time my dad (yep, he's the pastor) preaches on here. r/atheism helps balance the reasoning in the room. from no fucking sense to still no fucking sense but at least i can ignore while lulzing to posts by you wonderful people. :)

[–]forcedtolie 1 point2 points ago

I have to wake up to a long day of fasting... :( fucking ramadan.. well 29 more days to go

[–]fentooooon[S] 0 points1 point ago

Wait are you an atheist? Wouldn't it be pretty easy to sneak stuff?

[–]forcedtolie 1 point2 points ago

yeah, but I'm a pro at sneaking in food and drinking water in the bathroom when no ones looking (lol). Been doing it for years, good thing this will be the last ramadan with my parents since im old enuff to move out now.

[–]CinnamonToastCrack 1 point2 points ago

Shit, I have come out as an atheist and I still have to get up early to go to church.

[–]hunterv01 1 point2 points ago

Church was awful this week, I live in CO so obviously we talked about the shooting and I kept hearing people talk about how god had saved them and their friends who ended up not going to the showing or whatever. I hate people who think their god has decided they are so fucking special he saved them but he still let a massacre happen, how can they justify worshiping a god like that?

[–]hotinhawaii 1 point2 points ago

Could you possibly ask them after they give credit for saving them to god, "Why do you think he didn't save the 6 year old kid?"

[–]hunterv01 0 points1 point ago

I so wanted to, but my friends recently questioned something that everyone was claiming god did, the are no longer welcome in the youth group. Just 2 more years of required church, I'm just going to try and not make waves.

[–]Lyd234234 1 point2 points ago

Thank you. In thirty minutes I have to go to church and sit there for and hour and a half. It is so boring.

Edit: Yep, that was boring.

[–]uller999 1 point2 points ago

Guys, I was forced to go to church under threat of being thrown out near 10 years ago. I'm with you. It gets better. Don't let anyone make your forget your how great you are, and how wonderful your life can be. Regards.

[–]lupianwolf 0 points1 point ago

I was forced to go to temple where I didn't even understand the language

[–]YOU_TOOK_MY_USERNAME 0 points1 point ago

One day I just said I wasnt going, and didnt even move towards the door...got grounded for 2 months, but honestly I would rather have that over an hour and a half of church.

[–]mccthibbit 0 points1 point ago

I live in a major military, religious, and republican town. When I said i was atheist, only like 10% of the people I told said I'm going to hell. Everyone else understood my idea.

[–]pidgezero_one 0 points1 point ago

I think I might be apatheist. If so, I don't ever plan on coming out to my family.

I go to church with my family when I visit on weekends, because they are religious and I know that religion is an important part of my mom's life, and it means a lot to her that we can go as a family. That being said, I honestly love the church I grew up with - it always appeared to me that their focus was on community, acceptance, and charity. I never heard a word about who's going to hell for whatever reasons.

I'm not sure how much theistic stuff I actually believe, but I don't mind going. I think I'm one of the lucky ones.

[–]Dylan623 0 points1 point ago

Im from NC and today I got told anything bad that happens to me I deserve and I deserve to burn in hell because everything I do is wrong in gods eyes and apparently all sickness is caused by sin so children who get cancer are actually being punished by god....

[–]Cantbeliever 0 points1 point ago

Committed to play soccer at a super Christian college a year and a half ago. Since then I have become an atheist. FML. Wish me luck.

[–]f3nd3r 0 points1 point ago

Don't go. Fight for your freedom of (from) religion.

[–]DasPuma 0 points1 point ago

So Say We All!

[–]shimmyjimmy97 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for this!

[–]shrikeman1 0 points1 point ago

I'm in the process of coming out as an atheist at the moment. So far, only a handful of people know and most of them seem to be ok with it even though 90% of the people I know are christians. It allways gets better so don't worry and remember you don't have to do it all at once if that makes you uncomfortable. Take it slow if you have to.

[–]Kralizec555 0 points1 point ago

If getting to sleep in on Sundays isn't enough to get you out of the atheist closet, nothing is.

[–]callme_bro 0 points1 point ago

[–]boscoist -2 points-1 points ago

[–]SenorSteak -3 points-2 points ago

Wtf is with this obsession with atheism? 99% of the people i know couldnt give a fuck if someone is an atheist...

[–]fentooooon[S] 5 points6 points ago

I am in the bible belt...about 99% of people shun atheist where I am

[–]ladyway905 3 points4 points ago

My grandmother started crying when she found out. She said she'd failed as a parent and that I wasn't the little girl she'd raised. She then equated me with my mom and two uncles, the first of whom wouldn't piss on Grams if she was on fire and the second and third are alcoholic drug users in and out of jail their entire lives, and all of whom haven't lifted a finger to help Grams. Ever. And I have been there for her through thick and thin.

So yeah. To some people, it is a very big deal.

[–]iconrunner 2 points3 points ago

Lucky for you. Some people were born into fucked up fundamentalist families who think we will burn in hell for all eternity for our atheism. They are convinced it is their duty to "preach the gospel" to us and "show us the error of our ways".

It is often safer to just live with it for the time being, rather than tell them and live the next X years being treated as an infidel and apostate.

FML...
