One thing that always bothered me was how big of a deal they made of Jesus' death. Sure you had to march to your death with a pretty crown on your head while carrying a cross that you eventually get nailed to. But he freaking knew he was going to resurrect 3 days later, hell since he's got super powers he probably turned off his pain receptors. But what the hell, millions of people suffered an even worse death than he did and they never came back to life. Should we start going down on our knees every Sunday and honor them as gods as well?

Tl;dr Jesus is a zombie, acknowledge that.

An innocent man getting tortured and slowly executed for other peoples' crimes is about as shitty a death as you can have, though. Especially when, since we're talking about this from a Christian perspective, that innocent man happens to be the creator of all things.

Well I'm an Atheist so I don't share that perspective, but from my understanding Jesus did not create all things. Though the trinity does acknowledge that god, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the same, you still have to treat them as separate entities. Because god kept saying that he sent his own son to die for the sins of the world, but doesn't he mean he sent himself if they're all the same? Contradiction is synonymous with the bible. Shitty death? I agree. BUT take a look at Africa those people there are enduring a slow painful death that lasts their entire lifetime. As opposed to Jeeejus Christ who only suffered for a short period of time.

The Christian belief is that there is one god, but he is manifested in 3 separate entities. Yes, three separate entities, one god. The belief is that the Father entity sent the Son entity to die. Still all God, but 2 different entities.

Typically, though, when people refer to "God," they're referring to the Father.

Does it make sense? Nope, but if it did, people would just say that's more proof God doesn't exist, because we can actually grasp the concept.

This is a fairly common "witty" criticism of Christianity. But it's simply ignorance of Christian beliefs. They do not believe Jesus "died for our sins", but rather that he died in order to relieve humanity of original sin (the sin of taking the fruit from the tree of knowledge).

The "OMG sin or else Jesus died for nothing" is nothing more than misrepresenting their position. It'd be a bit like if someone did "coffee with Carl Sagan" and had him say "well, we know heaven and hell don't exist, so do whatever you want because none of it matters."

Yes, it does that because it's a joke, not a thesis on Christian theology. Jokes typically focus on high-level understandings of ideas, rather than highly detailed, in-depth analyses of those ideas and their historical and modern relevance.

Since original sin is the eating the fruit of the tree of "Knowledge of Good and Evil" (not the Tree of Knowledge)...I am not quite sure where this is going. Oh wait yes I do, if we don't know the difference between good and evil, there is no sin, and there never was.

Really though the story is a metaphor for the fact that we can't know what is good and what is evil with our limited minds (not to say we can't figure out what makes us happy, or how to feed ourselves, or how to be moral towards other people).

I think that is one of the biggest things that bug me about Christianity. they try to lure people in by saying that Jesus christ died for your sins, but if he died before you ever existed (assuming he ever existed), then there is no way that he could die for the sins of someone he never knew existed. Its nothing more than trying to sucker people with feel good sentiment that has no basis in reality.

This ignores the idea that he died for all humanity, though. If he died for all humanity, then he died for your sins in addition to everyone else's. You could die to save a bus full of children even if you don't know who is on it or how many people are there.

Also, God is omnipotent and omniscient. He knows the future, so he knows the sins that you will commit before you are even born.

I'm an atheist too, and I don't agree the Christian explanation for this, but your logic here is weak at best.

ITT they're all "God" so all the same thing, just different manifestations of the divine. The Holy Ghost was a deus ex spiritus to the lore, so that "God" could be made flesh inside Mary. ITT they also use it to explain the Burning Bush that Moses saw.

This is actually what the youth group at my old highschool preaches. (I went for shits and giggles) Every meeting would end with them saying "god died for your sins, so if you do something bad you don't have to feel bad, you don't even have to pray for forgiveness. He gave himself up knowing what he'd save you from. Please don't go around scared of messing up! It's okay"
