It is actually true, however, that Ledger did enjoy skating in his downtime on set, even in costume. There is video on YouTube.

EDIT: Forgive me if this link shows up weird, but I'm on my phone:

[–]the-ginger-one 46 points47 points ago

just remove the m. from the start of the url

[–]zentoryx 21 points22 points ago

Or click desktop at the top.

[–]phditto 23 points24 points ago

It's simple, we kickflip the Batman.

[–]Peregrine7 30 points31 points ago

Yeah, I can't seem to watch videos on that site...

[–]Peregrine7 13 points14 points ago

Thank you muchly.

[–]Superchair14 45 points46 points ago

for future reference, you can just remove the m. from the start of the mobile link and it should work fine

[–]LocoTSX 6 points7 points ago

Thank you for actually explaining to him what to do instead of yelling or being an all-around douchebag. You have my upvote.

[–]keggitybol 1 point2 points ago

RTFM noob /s

[–]Superchair14 0 points1 point ago

which is weird because I think I tend to be a dick towards a lot of people on this site.

[–]paulietheboss 9 points10 points ago

that's just youtube, but it's what you often see when someone links you to a video from a mobile device. with those links you can just click desktop site instead of mobile site at the top to watch the video :)

[–]Peregrine7 2 points3 points ago

Thanks!

[–]Sumbohdie 1 point2 points ago

its the mobile site. just remove the "m." at the start.

[–]Ephaxx 9 points10 points ago

He also starred in Lords of Dogtown, which is a skating based movie. A very good movie as well, and I recommend it for those who haven't seen it.

[–]eifersucht12a 0 points1 point ago

Did he?? That's one of those "movies you really liked but only ever watched once" for me. I had no idea. I'll have to check it out again.

[–]NotSafeForShop 5 points6 points ago

If you have never read it, Nolan's reflection on Ledger (and his on-set skateboarding) is a brilliant read.

"Charisma as Natural as Gravity"

[–]Phoequinox 6 points7 points ago

Kinda surreal. . .

But you know, it kinda bothers me that Heath Ledger's death was such a big deal. I'm not bad-mouthing him. Just the media. It was just because he died so soon after The Dark Knight was finished. People want to say it's because he was so young, but Brittany Murphy died just as suddenly and under even more mysterious causes, and was forgotten in a week. They were nearly the same age when they died. It turned from tragedy to martyrdom with Heath and that really bothered me. Death is awful, no matter who it is. But the way that was handled always seemed so off-putting to me.

[–]Richeh 80 points81 points ago

The tradgedy of Ledger's death was that he'd just given what was arguably the performance of his lifetime in a massively acclaimed film, and introduced a new angle on a character that had already been loved and analyzed for decades.

I was upset at Brittany Murphy's death, but the mourning for Ledger was as much for what he could have achieved given another decade as it was for the man.

[–]live2bass 3 points4 points ago

I'm not trying to play down Ledger's death, I agree that it's tragic, and that it could have been the "performance of his lifetime", but I don't know if I agree with the part of him introducing a new angle on the character. Honestly, the Joker in that film was a well-written character... his actions/motives/lines in the script were pretty different and more serious than the jokers we had seen before. He had gone from generic crime villain to semi-terroristic homocidal maniac. Now, I'm not saying Ledger didn't do a great job, he really did. I'm just saying I think that the credit of introducing a new angle should go to the screenwriters and developers of the film for making such a well written character in the first place. A lot of talented actors probably could have made the Joker just as amazing as Ledger did, given the same circumstances.

Once again, I'm not trying to downplay a person's death or great performance, just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

[–]PoisonousGirl 0 points1 point ago

The writers deserve a HUGE portion of the credit because they created the Joker in the basic form of what Heath Ledger did with it.

The director deserves a good bit also because he saw the words come to life and let Heath Ledger know how he envisioned the character.

But I do agree with Richleh that it was the role of a lifetime for him. He blew it out of the water. It takes a dedicated and skilled actor to convince the viewers of the character they're playing.

If they had hired Vince Vaugn to play the Joker I don't think the effect would have been the same or even Liam Neeson (just listing off another great drama actor) for that matter.

As much as I hate that actors are paid so highly simply for entertaining us, I feel that the right actor in an even decently written role can make the character they are playing amazing.

[–]ok_you_win 27 points28 points ago

but Brittany Murphy died just as suddenly and under even more mysterious causes

Mystery solved. After her husband died under similar symptoms, they investigated the house and found black mold.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/19/brittany-murphy-actress-killed-by-toxic-mold-says-mother_n_1157795.html

[–]wmurray003 46 points47 points ago

Yeah, but she was not as Great of an actor... that has significance.

[–]a6sinthe 2 points3 points ago

She gave an amazing performance in Girl, Interrupted. She had a lot of potential too. She just made some bad film choices afterwards and that can change with the right movie.

[–]urine_luck 8 points9 points ago

I don't think I had heard of Murphy or seen anything she was in. I had known of ledger for years and his brilliant acting ended with a performance that will be watched for decades. It's kind of a no brainer why he gets more attention

[–]kennerly 14 points15 points ago

If you saw, Clueless, Just Married, Girl Interrupted, Spun, 8 Mile, Uptown Girls, Sin City, Happy Feet, or Riding in Cars with Boys you've seen her. If you ever watched King of the Hill she was the voice of Luanne.

[–]geauxtig3rs 1 point2 points ago

I only saw happy feet.

[–]A_Mouse_In_Da_House 9 points10 points ago

You have seen her as a penguin.

[–]ajsatx 3 points4 points ago

Don't forget King of the Hill..

[–]Carrotsaregood -2 points-1 points ago

I saw Sin City and 8 Mile...that is all...

[–]Hcdr1993 4 points5 points ago

I'd recommend Spun it is an amazing movie.

[–]urine_luck -5 points-4 points ago

thats kind of my point. at the time of her death i had never seen any of those films (and i watch a lot of films) and since then i have seen a couple. i would still be unsure who she is if i had to pick her out of a lineup...

[–]ezmakingit 1 point2 points ago

You watch a lot of films and yet you haven't seen some of the biggest films of the past two decades.

Right bro.

[–]karadan100 5 points6 points ago

Brittany Murphy IS DEAD????

[–]Khalexus 1 point2 points ago

Yeah I had completely forgotten about that. I remember it happening now, but yeah. But if someone had just mentioned her (and reminded me what she acted in), I'd assume she was still alive. Weird.

[–]Boobzilla 1 point2 points ago

It wants me to watch it on realplayer....nope.

[–]kekonn 0 points1 point ago

Fixed link, skips to the right part as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0-Skvzil8k&t=22s

It's from Adidas' Y3 line of clothing.

[–]IAmTheGodDamnDoctor 20 points21 points ago

Obviously it's not a Gabe shirt. He can't even comprehend the number 3.

[–]randomviewer28 0 points1 point ago

as i laugh i can only picture his face staring at me smiling and i die a little...

[–]devilsadvocated 2 points3 points ago

[–]PaniX 39 points40 points ago

Looks like he fell asleep with some panties on his head.

[–]Naggers123 16 points17 points ago

That's not beyond Tom Hardy. First time I saw him was in Band of Brothers getting his shag on

[–]Tabtykins 57 points58 points ago

Tom Hardy is a good start.

[–]Irnbruguy 9 points10 points ago

I'm a straight dude & I think he's awesome.

[–]ProjectStormy 4 points5 points ago

My bf likes tom Hardy more than I do. And he says he's straight...

Small edit: seriously, every tdkr trailer he pops a huge boner.

Thanks tom Hardy, I get to take care of that. Thanks.

And don't get me wrong, I love sex with my bf. I just prefer him to be thinking about me.

[–]hankthewhale 13 points14 points ago

You only capitalize his last name. Either lowercase both his first and last name or capitalize both. Stop fucking with my brain.

[–]noodlesfordaddy 1 point2 points ago

"Hardy" is significant in this context.

[–]redthunda69 2 points3 points ago

She could be posting from a phone...

[–]hankthewhale 0 points1 point ago

Sure. But wouldn't that capitalize tom?

[–]redthunda69 0 points1 point ago

Not necessarily. A lot of phones don't capitalize some common first names that have other meanings.

[–]4_word_replies_only 1 point2 points ago

she should post pics.

[–]redthunda69 4 points5 points ago

Ever wonder why youve never been in a lengthy monogamous relationship?

I didn't care to correct it, heh.

[–]hankthewhale 0 points1 point ago

NO YOU HURT MY BRAIN. TOO LATE FOR APOLOGIES.

[–]ProjectStormy 1 point2 points ago

RANDOMLY I JUST SAW TDKR AND OMG IT WAS SO GOOD AND EVERY TIME WE SAW BANE WE BOTH POPPED BONERS.

Figuratively, for me. Every time he walked around holding his collar, my panties were wet.

Holy fuck, dat stance.

[–]hankthewhale 1 point2 points ago

Just so you know...people say I look like Bane. All my friends are like "wow...look at that Bane dick on you."

Yeah... I know. You don't have to say anything.

[–]ProjectStormy 1 point2 points ago

I don't know, I'm pretty sure you look more like a whale, Hank.

[–]MrZepher67 3 points4 points ago

Tell your bf he has a chance. Tom Hardy goes both ways if you know what I'm sayin'.

[–]Cleev 2 points3 points ago

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a serious hetero man-crush on Tom Hardy.

[–]glowstickofdestiny 11 points12 points ago

It's difficult for some some women, like myself, to have a type. I find Tom Hardy attractive, but I can also say I find Tom Hiddleston very attractive and they are quite opposite appearance wise.

[–]Montaron87 16 points17 points ago

And being called Tom.

[–]A_Mouse_In_Da_House 6 points7 points ago

And having their last names start with an "H".

[–]planarshift 9 points10 points ago

Not all women find the same things attractive. I personally am not a huge fan of the gigantic, muscly, alpha male type so I don't really find him all that attractive.

[–]eat-your-corn-syrup 11 points12 points ago

JGL then?

[–]Deckurr 4 points5 points ago

Hiddleston.

[–]advocatadiaboli 0 points1 point ago

He puts on the muscle for roles. If you see him between roles, he's slimmer - and much slimmer in his older stuff.

[–]capzlock7 5 points6 points ago

I think it depends on the girl.

[–]eat-your-corn-syrup 4 points5 points ago

/r/ladyboners is a good start too

[–]BobbyDash 8 points9 points ago

Probably because there's nothing women as a whole find attractive? They are in fact people. ;-)

[–]jumpbreak5 5 points6 points ago

The whole reason men are confused by women's tastes is that men are far more consistent in what attracts them, and so the fact that women's tastes tend to be more personal and different often confuses men. The fact that "they are people" is irrelevant. Men are people too.

[–]shutupjoey 6 points7 points ago

He's a big tattooed alpha male. Enough said.

[–]RoomAndAFire 2 points3 points ago

Source for the steroid use?

[–]srs_house 0 points1 point ago

Common sense? Taylor Lautner, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy - they've all had to put on massive bulks for roles, which generally indicates steroid use of some sort.

[–]RoomAndAFire 0 points1 point ago

Diet and exercise, simple. Those you mentioned are also actors; their bodies are part of their craft. Bale has been known for his dramatic physical changes for roles (The Machinist, Batman Begins, Rescue Dawn, TDK, The Fighter). Tom has said he has no intention of keeping the weight on after this role "feels heavy," not to mention he was bigger in Bronson. Why would they risk their long term health for a role, then after they wrap have to change and recover MULTIPLE TIMES?

[–]srs_house 1 point2 points ago

Diet and exercise can explain weight gain and loss, yes. But we're talking about huge gains in muscle. Bale starved himself (as in, one apple and a can of tuna per day) for the Machinist, and then put on about 80 pounds for Batman Begins. For comparison, Vincent Donaforio had held the record for largest weight gain for a role, and that was for Full Metal Jacket where he was playing a fat man in basic training.

For what these guys are doing, putting on a massive amount of muscle in a short time, steroids are perfect. They still put in the work, but they can work harder and more often than normal, resulting in more rapid weight gains. Lautner put on 30 pounds of muscle as a 16/17 year old for Twilight; Bale's in his late 30s. Even with dedicated weight training and dieting, the normal person isn't going to pull those off without help. Personally, I don't consider it "cheating" or anything - doping isn't illegal for actors, and it's their bodies. But you have to realize that they aren't examples of the norm.

Why would they risk their long term health for a role, then after they wrap have to change and recover MULTIPLE TIMES?

You said it yourself: they're actors, it's their jobs. In Raging Bull, De Niro went to France and Italy on a food binge to put on weight for the final scenes as a retired, washed up LaMotta. He gained so much that he developed health problems and actually slowed filming down. Why? He got an Oscar for Best Actor and the film picked up 8 noms.

[–]callsign_helo 0 points1 point ago

I felt weird crushing on Bane, but.. yeah. I did it anyway.

[–]porkiswayne 0 points1 point ago

THOSE LIPS

It's almost a tragedy that you don't get to see his lips during TDKR.

[–]advocatadiaboli 0 points1 point ago

We did, for about two seconds, in a flashback.

[–]I_Repeat_Things 5 points6 points ago

So this will make you feel old. This guy played Twombly in Black Hawk Down, which is 11 years old...

[–]GJOP 6 points7 points ago

He will always be Shinzon to me, and that was like 10 years ago

[–]zedlord 0 points1 point ago

He's also in Band of Brothers. He used to be so skinny compared to what he is now.

[–]ilikefries 0 points1 point ago

Wow I didn't know that. I had heard about Black Hawk down.

[–]jkonine 17 points18 points ago

Jesus christ he got fucking jacked for this role.

[–]heygabbagabba 17 points18 points ago

Have you seen Warrior? He's a fucking tank in that. I think that is where the body comes from (assuming it was filmed before TDKR)

[–]annoyinglyclever 19 points20 points ago

Have you seen Bronson? He's a monster in that too.

[–]antigravity21 15 points16 points ago

That film was great. So weird, yet so captivating. That dude can act his nuts off. Those odd stage performance scenes are so enthralling.

[–]tmcdizzle827 1 point2 points ago

This aspect of the film may have been what I loved most. The specific stage performance when the two sides of his face are painted differently to portray different personalities was magnificent. As an actor, that is the kind of shit that inspires me to no end.

[–]antigravity21 1 point2 points ago

That particular scene was bananas. As a non-actor, it was very enjoyable.

[–]heygabbagabba 0 points1 point ago

I haven't, but obviously he lined up a bunch of 'looking like a thug' films in a row. The transformation Bale does between the Machinist and Batman Begins was freaking scary, and unhealthy.

[–]srs_house 0 points1 point ago

I thought he was looking a little fat in DKR, instead of just swole.

[–]Obliviousobi 0 points1 point ago

He had a very similar build in Bronson as well

[–]daBandersnatch 1 point2 points ago

I just watched that last night. It was one fucking job of a movie, that's for sure.

[–]heygabbagabba 1 point2 points ago

Great film. Even though you knew 15 minutes in what was going to happen in the end, by the time the end came around your idea of what was interesting in the film had changed considerably. A fantastic character study, Tom Hardy AKA camel lips plays one of the most interesting characters I've seen in a while.

[–]burnzkid 0 points1 point ago

I said the same thing after watching it. Such a predictable ending.

[–]heygabbagabba 0 points1 point ago

Surprisingly, and I'm usually pretty critical of films, that predictability didn't effect my enjoyment of the film.

[–]Salekdarling 4 points5 points ago

This man changes shape quicker than jello in a mold. Bronson? Huge. All fat. Warrior? Ripped as fuck. He's a very dedicated actor to his roles.

[–]jamii992 19 points20 points ago

Still not quicker than Bale though, he changes shape crazy quick

[–]Salekdarling 2 points3 points ago

Truth!

[–]supahgrandwizard 10 points11 points ago

All fat? Perhaps not the most defined, but a lot of that size is muscle. And that picture doesn't even do it justice.

[–]Salekdarling 5 points6 points ago

I remember watching an interview with him pertaining to his role as Bronson. He said himself it was more fat than muscle. I have a slight obsession with the man...and devoured as much information on him as possible after watching Inception. Lol. Not sifting through the videos right at the moment, but here are other interviews.

Still has amazing traps in all three roles...

BRB, off to the gym to do some power shrugs.

[–]burnzkid 0 points1 point ago

Traps are the neck muscles, I assume?

[–]Procify 2 points3 points ago

Bald Antimage?

[–]Sogeking99 4 points5 points ago

He will always be Tommy to me.

[–]mryanbrennan 1 point2 points ago

You'll always be baby to meeeee

[–]Sogeking99 1 point2 points ago

Hmm, I fail to make the connection. Please explain, I hear baby, and think Dragon Ball GT.

[–]Manospoon 1 point2 points ago

I believe he is referencing a Pink Floyd song, "Mother". It's on "The Wall." Good Song too.

[–]mryanbrennan 1 point2 points ago

Saw Roger Waters play The Wall couple weeks ago too!

[–]Manospoon 0 points1 point ago

Oh wow, he was in Buffalo(near me) and I missed him. Maybe someday I'll be so lucky as to see him too.

[–]mryanbrennan 0 points1 point ago

Hopefully this isnt his last tour :(

[–]TheFashionableBro 3 points4 points ago

Even though this isn't real, it's still amazing to see how ripped Tom Hardy got for the role.

[–]friedeggplant 1 point2 points ago

it's amazing what actors put their bodies through for different roles, especially this dude.

[–]burnzkid 0 points1 point ago

He was ripped before this, have you seen him in Warrior?

[–]TheFashionableBro 0 points1 point ago

Nope, last movie I've seen him in was Inception, and he was wearing a suit the whole time.

[–]LarneyStinson 1 point2 points ago

It's the last airbender!!!

[–]dangdatkat 3 points4 points ago

I want to know Why Thre3?

It's Quan-Chi!

[–]malignantmop 0 points1 point ago

Photoshop request: Gaben wearing that shirt.

I still wish they would go into more detail about the mask.

In the prison they say it is for morphine due to the prison brawl....

dat tanline.

[–]occmsrazr 0 points1 point ago

That Y3 shirt is sick

[–]devilsadvocated 1 point2 points ago

Sickly overpriced, Yamamoto's Adidas stuff starts around a bill, and some shirts are $200-300 depending on the line.

[–]Mr_Tulip 2 points3 points ago

I do not understand why people would pay that much for a T-shirt. I mean, on an intellectual level, I know that people are rich and either don't care how much they spend or want to show off their wealth, but seriously. It's a goddamn white T-shirt.

[–]Wayfarer21 1 point2 points ago

i can only imagine what else i'd buy being a millionaire

[–]devilsadvocated 1 point2 points ago

You and me both. I feel guilty when I buy hiking shoes for $100-150, and then it's clearly worth the money when you're wearing them out in the middle of nowhere and need the quality and reliability. I hate spending more than 10 bucks on a t-shirt at clothing liquidator.

[–]TheUngracefulBear 0 points1 point ago

I want that shirt

[–]PJRedd 0 points1 point ago

It may be fake but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Just like TDKR (not a documentary) and other movies (fake)

It was photoshopped.

[–]ThatsSciencetastic 5 points6 points ago

Makeup? Why would they bother to get the outline so perfect when they could quickly cover his entire face?

[–]InfiernoDante 1 point2 points ago

Maybe he had the mask on when they did it?

[–]ThatsSciencetastic 0 points1 point ago

That would get makeup all over the mask...

[–]InfiernoDante -2 points-1 points ago

Not necessarily... We're talking about professional makeup artists probably. And i'm sure it wouldn't be hard for them to protect the mask. Also they would have made more than one mask...

[–]Architration 0 points1 point ago

I agree. As great as Hollywood makeup artists can be, I'm sure they could avoid getting anything on the mask.

[–]Vark675 0 points1 point ago

A fair amount of it was filmed outside, it's probably just a fucked up supervillain farmer's tan.

[–]popNfresh91 -1 points0 points ago

The fake tan looks more like God of War

[–]duchovny -1 points0 points ago

Oh reddit, always so gullible.

[–]PoisonMind -1 points0 points ago

The most hideous tan I ever saw was on a drummer in a marching band who decided to wear a snare drum harness without a shirt.

[–]Wreck_Loose_Recluse -1 points0 points ago

Photoshop.

[–]naeobe -1 points0 points ago

Does anyone know what his t-shirt is about? I want one.
