Really makes you wonder how she ended up in that chair.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]DownWthisSortOfThing 33 points34 points ago

Just because she isn't paralyzed, doesn't mean she's just being lazy. At 56 she could have limited mobility due to injury, or illness (arthritis, diabetes, etc). Don't get me wrong -- she's still an idiot, but calling her a piece of shit is a bit much.

[–]Mr_Ected 6 points7 points ago

They should have pushed her over and let the cycle continue.

[–]Valek27 539 points540 points ago

It's a scooter, she can actually walk.

[–]BerryGuns 204 points205 points ago

Why would she use that chair if she could walk..?

[–]confusedjake 886 points887 points ago

I see that you have never been to Walmart.

[–]BerryGuns 299 points300 points ago

Well I don't live in america so no.

[–]REDandBLUElights 373 points374 points ago

In america some people are to fat and/or lazy to walk around the grocery store. So they use the electric carts.

[–]BerryGuns 460 points461 points ago

That is just so ridiculous.

[–]theblitheringidiot 260 points261 points ago

Sad thing is it's completely true, I live in Orlando and I've seen an entire families driving around on scooters while at Disney World and on more than one occasion. I guarantee after an hour you'd see at least a dozen people on scooters while at the parks. Personally, I'd be embarrassed as fuck to be seen on a scooter.

[–]BerryGuns 385 points386 points ago

hahaha wtf, it's like fucking Wall-E.

[–]SeaBiscuit1337 138 points139 points ago

Yeah, it's embarassing, and by the time some old folk with a walker comes, all the scooters are taken by the fat and lazy, who really should just be walking and get a little bit of excercise.

[–]32koala 43 points44 points ago

Where do you think they got the inspiration?

[–]puapsyche 86 points87 points ago

I WORK for Disney World and used to do front-side Guest interaction in Magic Kingdom. ECV (Electric Convenience Vehicles) were our NIGHTMARES. And it always seemed like whoever was driving one didn't give a fuck about anything else and everyone else was inconveniencing them by being in their way.

[–]SuperbusAtheos 132 points133 points ago

I had a lady honk at me because I was looking at something she want to look at.

[–]Degru 8 points9 points ago

Has anyone taken a crap on one of the ECV's?

[–]Nohare 11 points12 points ago

That's what my experience at Disney world was like. Don't forget the strollers! So while I was in Epcot on day it started to drizzle and then it started picking up so I decided to just go back to the hotel. As I'm trying to leave, every little tunnel entrance to another area of the park is blocked by people in scooters and strollers just parked under there to stay dry. I tried to politely ask people to move because I wanted to get through and nobody budged. So I decided to just push my way through and flail my arms wildly. I loved my trip there but goddamn some people felt so fucking entitled there and really put a damper on the atmosphere.

[–]emorockstar 26 points27 points ago

The sad thing is that there have been a few times when I had injuries and wanted to use the scooters but because of the people you just mentioned I decided I'd rather walk in pain.

[–]econleech 11 points12 points ago

I would wait til I am healed before going to Disney. I could enjoy the rides better that way.

[–]joeanon 4 points5 points ago

I had knee surgery and rode them a couple times. It was fun.

[–]ThufirrHawat 1 point2 points ago

What? I would totally do that with a group of my friends. Cruising around the park in our little scooter gang. Awesome!

[–]fearthejew 1 point2 points ago

Disagree, I would ride a Razor scooter around Disney. That seems like a really good idea.

[–]THammock 1 point2 points ago

I have always wanted to figure out a quick easy way to disable those carts and run around Walmart and destroy the fat/lazy people's carts because what the fuck are they gonna do? Chase me?

[–]karadan100 35 points36 points ago

I'd say "now i've seen everything" but i haven't ever seen a man walk on his eyelids, so i'll just relegate that to a stern WTF!

[–]iameveryoneelse 2 points3 points ago

this is as close as I could get.

[–]annelisemonte 5 points6 points ago

a man walk on his eyelids

Pass the brain bleach, please.

[–]catlikefury 16 points17 points ago

I have a friend who is currently working on her ultrasound tech certification. She shared with me a story of a woman who needed an ultrasound. Prior to getting it done, this heavily obese woman went to use the bathroom. Everything was fine until she called for help. A nurse went to check on her and the woman told her that she couldn't wipe properly and needed assistance. Mind you, this woman was checked in at this hospital so she had her own room upstairs in which she did have an "ass wipe stick". However, the nurse just went ahead and wiped her butt. I asked my friend why didn't she just call the nurses station upstairs to fetch the stick and save herself the ordeal of doing the wiping herself. Apparently the nurse just did it to "get it over with" and probably didn't want to embarrass the patient. And here is why it takes a special kind of individual to become a nurse. My hats were off to her.

[–]BerryGuns 52 points53 points ago

That's fucking disgusting.

[–]joeanon 38 points39 points ago

At least they are wiping their asses now, look on the bright side man.

[–]johnlukepicard 8 points9 points ago

There are more reasons than obesity to need such a thing.

[–]Spikan 1 point2 points ago

I'd rather this product exist than not, to be completely honest.

[–]Kelphatron9000 12 points13 points ago

"Being a big guy certainly has its advantages..."

Which are? As a formerly fat guy, I don't remember any advantages except being able to eat too much in one sitting.

[–]Bermnerfs 2 points3 points ago

Cushioned organs.

[–]Redroverred 2 points3 points ago

Insulation.

[–]Ikimasen 7 points8 points ago

The first Cracked article I read was the guy trying to return one of these.

[–]CrazyBoxLady 13 points14 points ago

Wasnt this originally created for little people who's arms are too short to reach?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]sweetsugarpiezigzag 1 point2 points ago

Me too! When I saw the video I thought about how it was more for disabled people with limited hand mobility, the elderly, and little people. I didn't instantly think of fat people, because I assume if they're too lazy or unable to wipe their own ass then they probably have someone else do it for them.

[–]MeconiumMasterpiece 12 points13 points ago

[–]Gruntr 2 points3 points ago

I like how they called the bonus item the "get-a-grip". Not even the writers take this seriously.

[–]kareem_abdul_montana 1 point2 points ago

i wash myself with a rag on a stick

[–]PilotH 1 point2 points ago

[–]foreverskepticalone 1 point2 points ago

What makes me ponder the most is who'd ever need 18 extra inches to reach their ass.

[–]-naut 1 point2 points ago

I know this is frowned upon, but bare with me:

HAHAHAHAHA

Now I finally know how they do it!

[–]captain150 1 point2 points ago

And the Jabo0odyDubs.

[–]royalewihcheese 1 point2 points ago

Toilet paper is archaic, and disgusting. So put some on this stick, use it and then wave it around!

[–]Krafty_Koala 1 point2 points ago

It doubles as a shower scrubber?! EW

[–]NomadE85 1 point2 points ago

That made me want to shoot myself.

[–]bibiane 1 point2 points ago

$50 value? I don't think so.

[–]corcyra 1 point2 points ago

Romans - especially soldiers - used exactly the same thing to wipe their bums. http://flavias.blogspot.co.uk/2008/10/so-whats-with-sponge-stick.html Any bets someone did a bit of research?

[–]lfe-soondubu 1 point2 points ago

omg i always wondered how they did it. NOW I KNOW

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points ago

[–]parsifal 1 point2 points ago

I completely agree with you. Most of us silently hate these people and wish they didn't exist.

The thing with America is, half of us are doing it right, and the other half is fucking braindead and are ruining everything.

[–]Creabhain 44 points45 points ago

True. However there are people who can only walk short distances and need wheelchairs/scooters for prolonged getting around. Just because you see a person stand up or walk a short distance after using a scooter does not mean they are simply lazy.

On the other hand, most every person I have personally known who used a scooter was one was of the lazy or too fat to function normally variety.

[–]y7vc 9 points10 points ago

How about only giving those scooters out to people who have a disability and means to prove that they have said disability?

[–]5kToSelfDestruction 11 points12 points ago

Some of the fat people in these things are disabled. Disabled through their own doing, but nevertheless, they do not have the ability to walk for more than 5 minutes and not pass out. Some of them have disabetes, that was brought on through overeating, but nevertheless, diabetes gives you very bad foot and leg problems.

[–]RobotPolarbear 6 points7 points ago

Some fat people are fat because of their disabilities.

[–]mgsh 7 points8 points ago

My friend sprained his ankle once and had to use one of those machines.

The fat people were so jealous.

[–]Amytherocklobster 1 point2 points ago

It's true. This 400lbs+ guy tried to sneak the last electric scooter in front of a veteran with only one leg. My fiancé asked him to give up the scooter for the other guy. The fat guy actually has the audacity to say no. My fiancé was a nice guy but there was no illusion there was an option. The fat guy said he was gonna call the police. The fat guy whips out his phone just in time for my fiancé to slap it out of his hand and it busts against the wall. He ends up grabbing the chair with his hands and uses his foot to push the fatty off the scooter. It was kind of sad, the fat guy started to cry as we left. :(

[–]wagashi 16 points17 points ago

"Scooters" were originally a thing for the elderly. Granny can walk, but not fast or for long, get her a scooter. Then the Wall-E effect set in.

[–]metalhead4 1 point2 points ago

So lemme get this straight. You're tellin' me I can eat non-stop, roll out of bed onto my scooter, DRIVE to my truck, get in my truck, drive to wherever I gotta go, then get on another scooter and continue rollin through stores on my scooter?! Damn I still gotta take 10 steps though, not worth it...

[–]PhigNutz 40 points41 points ago

Listen my non-American friend. Don't you worry a bit. The Fast Food, Corporate Dominated, Walmart culture will soon be in your neck of the woods. You're on the internet so the American infection has already begun.

[–]BerryGuns 18 points19 points ago

:<

[–]thefuckdude 7 points8 points ago

actually the exact opposite is happening in germany, people only want healthy food over here, its frowned upon to eat unhealthy food.

[–]Titties 3 points4 points ago

That helps to explain all the beautiful German ladies.

[–]arbuthnot-lane 2 points3 points ago

It's true that most of the world is becoming obese, that's true, but there are certain cultural and geographical factors that make Americans more susceptible to overweight than many other places.

Unhealthy food culture, use of processed foods, prize and availability of fast foods, lack of accessible and free health care, low education, little focus on collective transportation, the spread of suburbia and highly prevalent car use, support and lobby groups for unhealthy habits and overweight, urban planning, worker's and women's rights, etc are some of the factors that might predispose Americans to be somewhat more overweight than Europe, and likely to keep on being NUMBER 1* for the foreseeable future.

*Actually the fattest countries in the world are several small Pacific island nations. In Nauru about 95% of the population over 15 years are overweight. The U.S. is tied with Kuwait for nr 8, at about 74% of the population.
The fattest Europeans are the Greeks and Maltese, at about 69%.

[–]NHLVet 29 points30 points ago

my mom has a wheelchair but her legs are fine, she just gets short of breath easily (she's on chemotherapy) and would have to take breaks every 5 minutes if she didn't have her chair for long journeys.

[–]thecajunone 10 points11 points ago

"Why walk when you can ride?".

[–]GravitasFree 3 points4 points ago

Will you make a special trip, just for me? At the same low price?

[–]xxx_blade_smokah_xxx 51 points52 points ago

Because just because some people CAN walk doesn't mean they can do it for a long period of time. There are plenty of reasons someone would need assistance like this such as recovering from surgery, chronic fatigue, joint problems, etc......

Every fucking person below you making lazy jokes about laziness can eat a fucking brick. You don't know the persons situation from just a glance, and that person you're mocking could be doing what she has to in order to be out, and about.

Edit: This is in regards to mocking people using these kinds of devices in general, not this specific case, or directed at the person I am replying to.

[–]lfernandes 17 points18 points ago

In the full video, she walks up the escalator just fine at the end. While mocking people who actually need these is awful, the point is that the majority, just like this woman, are just lazy assholes who don't "feel like" walking.

I get what you're saying, and trying to be the bigger person, but you and I both know that (to steal a comment by plasmalaser1 from below) "The only thing wrong with her legs is they weren't meant to hold up an elephant."

[–]whistlestoannoyyou 17 points18 points ago

Because just because some people CAN walk doesn't mean they can do it for a long period of time.

[–]lfernandes 6 points7 points ago

And because some people use these chairs doesn't mean they aren't just being lazy. It works both ways.

[–]Tfish 3 points4 points ago

Having awful joint problems would not stop you from walking a short distance in hopes of finding another chair.

[–]BerryGuns 10 points11 points ago

Sure, I haven't judged her. What I don't understand though is that people are implying that she grabs one of these when she enters the store..? They don't supply them do they? I've never seen electric chairs supplied anywhere before.

[–]xxx_blade_smokah_xxx 22 points23 points ago

Sorry, that anger wasn't directed at you, just everyone replying.

Also yes a lot of major grocery store chains here in America stock 2-3 electric scooters for people such as the elderly, medically problemed, or sometimes just fat people abusing the privilege.

[–]BerryGuns 8 points9 points ago

That's pretty cool. Shame that people abuse it though.

[–]tmccarthy53 6 points7 points ago

Because this is America

[–]zeonos 1 point2 points ago

because they dont walk well without support?.

[–]RexxNebular 13 points14 points ago

I've seen a lot of spinals, dude, and this gal's a fake.

[–]Nick700 32 points33 points ago

Maybe not, I don't see her legs moving at all

[–]Valek27 146 points147 points ago

I've seen the video, she gets up and walks down the escalator.

[–]Nick700 185 points186 points ago

Oh, sorry. Now I can laugh at this.

This is false information. She never sued the company, in fact this happened only 2/3 days ago http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/07/boston-woman-on-scooter-has-escalator-spill/

[–]thelastatomicbomb 69 points70 points ago

You're....joking right?

[–]mossling 31 points32 points ago

in this case, yes, he is. as someone pointed out below, this just happened a couple of days ago.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/07/boston-woman-on-scooter-has-escalator-spill/

[–]terrdc 21 points22 points ago

Thousands of dollars would imply that they settled because they didn't want to pay a lawyer to litigate it.

It doesn't necessarily mean that she had a valid case.

[–]aaybma 40 points41 points ago

Doesn't matter - she still got a reward for her stupidity.

[–]IrrelevantLeprechaun 13 points14 points ago

Thus reinforcing her stupid behaviour. I bet she even probably tried to do this again afterwards. Some people just don't learn.

[–]larsao3 25 points26 points ago

[–]underwritress 8 points9 points ago

For some reason I really, really like this picture.

[–]acog 4 points5 points ago

Why do people like you make up answers? That incident happened only 4 days ago!

[–]Scrooge_McDuck90 62 points63 points ago

IT'S A MIRACLE!

[–]Xqwz 2 points3 points ago

Hi I'm Johnny Knoxville, Welcome to Jackass.

[–]yahoo_bot 1 point2 points ago

Actually now we know why she is in a wheelchair!

[–]DoobieRoller 159 points160 points ago

I bet ya she's still there...just-a-tumblin' at the bottom of the escalator...randomly collecting more people...like a crippled black hole...

[–]Mr_Ected 25 points26 points ago

♫♩ Every day I'm tumblin', tumblin', tumblin' ♫ ♬

[–]SoInsightful 20 points21 points ago

♫♩ They see me rollin', they hatin' ♫ ♬

[–]WombatDominator 1 point2 points ago

I laughed at the picture, thought I was bad. Read this, still think I'm bad but with company.

[–]gigitrix 1 point2 points ago

Keep Rollin Rollin Rollin Rollin

[–]geenaleigh 408 points409 points ago

I loved that she just kept rolling, and rolling, then eventually absorbed another victim into the rolling madness.

[–]EyesOnEverything 154 points155 points ago

Katamari.

EDIT: ffs, just read Wolfeh2012's comment. Reddit has convinced me there are no original thoughts left in my head.

[–]Kowzorz 23 points24 points ago

To be fair, you were making a pop culture reference.

[–]InternetLumberjack 2 points3 points ago

I knew exactly what I was going to see/hear but actually seeing and hearing it together exceeded any expectation I had.

[–]Forgototherpassword 6 points7 points ago

I loved that there was no warning label. SUE, SUE, SUE, EVERYONE.

Are you so fucking stupid that you tried to take a scooter up an escalator? Was there no warning label? Call Tony's Frivolous Lawsuit Attorneys at Law

[–]mrbooze 1 point2 points ago

Is everyone aware that at the base and top of escalators there should always be a big red button that stops the elevator just for cases like this?

I say this because I once had a guy riding a wheel chair down the escalator in front of me. He tumbled, took out several people on the way down, and I finally had to partially climb over the pile of people to reach over and hit the red button because nobody else in the pile or standing nearby did.

[–]xWooney 410 points411 points ago

Well, that escalated quickly..

ba dum tsh

[–]plasmalaser1 77 points78 points ago

I can't believe she fell for that one

[–]1of7billion 53 points54 points ago

Repost. I already saw this on tumblr.

[–]finding_nino 144 points145 points ago

EVERYBODY ITS OK TO LAUGH SHE'S NOT HANDICAPPED (she walks up the escalator in the full video)

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 44 points45 points ago

Unless she's mentally handicapped it would still be okay to laugh regardless.

[–]lxxnemod 64 points65 points ago

It's always ok to laugh.

[–]wumumo 6 points7 points ago

Nah, now you ruined it for me. I can only laugh about handicapped people.

[–]dreamendDischarger 1 point2 points ago

You can't tell she's not handicapped just because she can walk. She might have a condition that makes it difficult to walk for long periods of time.

Doesn't change the fact that trying to go up an escalator like that is stupid though.

[–]Rickmasta 18 points19 points ago

I once saw a mall security worker attempt to ride up the escalators with his segway. Half way up, he began to fall. He was okay, but boy I wish I'd caught that on camera.

[–]LightOfDarkness 4 points5 points ago

I'm impressed he managed to get halfway up perfectly fine

[–]Bipolarruledout 14 points15 points ago

Darwin takes a second try.

[–]NotaMethAddict 153 points154 points ago

Relax, it's probably only the second worst accident of her life.

[–]acog 53 points54 points ago

She's not paralyzed. At the end of the incident she got up and walked away.

[–]llamamymama 5 points6 points ago

We shouldn't just assume that because she can stand up and has the ability to move her legs that she doesn't need the scooter. Perhaps she can't walk very well.

[–]arbuthnot-lane 1 point2 points ago

God damn it, woman. And there was an elevator less than 20 metres away.

[–]violetjoker 25 points26 points ago

Being fat and lazy is a accident ?

[–]pearlyblueclouds 11 points12 points ago

They see me rollllllin'..

[–]RepostThatShit 21 points22 points ago

I've seen handicapped people in wheelchairs actually pull this off, and she's probably seen it too and decided to try. Thing is it takes considerable upper body strength to hold your chair upright by the rails.

edit: hair -> chair

[–]epsilonbob 36 points37 points ago

The weight/balance/structure of a wheelchair is also different from the scooter she was in. She had four tiny wheels and an extremely low IQ working against her.

[–]Highpersonic 4 points5 points ago

Also, at a certain load the handle rail belt will slip.

[–]xmod2 1 point2 points ago

If this video is to believed, it looks like their is about a 50% success rate.

[–]RepostThatShit 2 points3 points ago

If you factor in OP's video that drops down to 33%

[–]Pays4Porn 31 points32 points ago

News story and Video here

The MBTA yesterday released a video showing the 56-year-old woman being launched backwards and flipping over several times as she attempted to ride her scooter up a moving escalator at Broadway Station on Friday morning.

[–]killapimp 42 points43 points ago

“After her tumble, the woman stands up and walks down the escalator.”

What?

[–]Kowzorz 45 points46 points ago

Not all people in scooters are incapable of walking.

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 16 points17 points ago

Should be a prerequisite. In order to be eligible for these things you need to trade in both your achilles tendons.

[–]DARNED_RIPPED_TIT 30 points31 points ago

Should be a prerequisite.

No, it shouldn't. There are several diseases and conditions that make it very difficult to walk for long periods of time. For instance: someone with a condition like this may be able to walk from their car to the store without a problem, but once they're shopping for a while and having to stand / walk, they feel immense pain. Thus the cart is there to prevent any complications that may arise from having to shop / stand a long time for some people, and they are out there, and there's tons of them on Reddit.

Does that mean that the carts aren't abused by fat lazy people? No, without a doubt it is, but some people actually need them, even if they don't appear to.

[–]dszordan 6 points7 points ago

Paraplegic curing escalator. Expect it to be packed for the next few weeks with wheelchairs.

[–]amazingseiderman 6 points7 points ago

I don't understand on what possible grounds she would have to sue- if she did in fact sue. The MBTA posted signs warning travelers about what's not allowed on the escalator and the elevator was nearby.
If she got any kind of settlement, she doesn't deserve it.

[–]xltaylx 45 points46 points ago

She deserves every ounce of embarrassment for her sheer stupidity.

[–]Wolfeh2012 35 points36 points ago

If more people tried to help her up and started tumbling, I'd think this was Katamari HD.

[–]BrohanGutenburg 6 points7 points ago

[–]Vasilik 49 points50 points ago

Fat woman in a wheelchair? Only in my beloved USA

[–]plasmalaser1 76 points77 points ago

There's nothing wrong with her legs except they weren't meant to hold up an elephant

[–]touchy610 19 points20 points ago

I don't know if you actually looked, but she really doesn't look as fat as most people in a scooter. She looks pretty comfortably fit into the chair, with a good amount of space for wiggle room. Chubby, maybe, but certainly not obese or anything.

She looked old, more than anything. Some people do have legitimate reasons to be in those things. My grandma can't even walk upstairs without people holding onto her, due to arthritis. But, she can't get a wheelchair or scooter because she can't pay for it. And she'd probably be too stubborn for one, anyway. :p

I don't see why this woman didn't use a ramp or elevator, though. Isn't it illegal for place with stairs and escalators to not have accessible places for those in wheelchairs and such?

[–]Brettersson 8 points9 points ago

She was 56

[–]touchy610 7 points8 points ago

That's certainly old enough for a host of problems. But, again, she really doesn't look very fat, which was the original point. I just have a habit of going off into a tangent.

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 7 points8 points ago

My grandma can't even walk upstairs without people holding onto her, due to arthritis. But, she can't get a wheelchair or scooter

I doubt that's going to help with the stairs.

[–]LibertariansLOL 2 points3 points ago

AMERICA HATE?

CHOO CHOO

[–]DadWasntYourMoms1st 3 points4 points ago

I actually saw this all over the news the other day. Everyone was upset that they didn't shut the escalator off fast enough and were discussing ways to shut it down faster in the event of a future situation like this one.

No one seemed to be upset about how absolutely stupid this woman is.

[–]Arizth 2 points3 points ago

I loled hard.

Very, very hard.

I give not a shit that I am laughing at an idiot in a wheelchair. Idiots are idiots no matter their physical handicaps.

And I laugh at them all.

<Insert evil laughter>

[–]Oppositesattract 7 points8 points ago

Nice backflip!

[–]wilsonism 9 points10 points ago

The fucked up part is that she will most likely sue the mall because there wasn't a "no scooters" sign on the escalator.

[–]jhbee 2 points3 points ago

That moment when you realise her face scrapes down a step before she's picked up.

[–]Supreme_Jelly 2 points3 points ago

Good samaritan: "You haven't been very handicapped long, have you....?"

I live in Boston where this happened. It's kind of picked up steam around here... I saw an ad the other day for a local theater showing a still of her tumbling with the words "Our latest comedy hour will have you rolling!". The sad thing is that there was literally an elevator 25 feet away from her. Why she thought this would be a good idea is beyond me. Still, I'm really not that surprised.

[–]migzors 2 points3 points ago

I really liked her commitment going in. She was 100% confident that she was going to make it up that escalator, not a moments hesitation.

Looks like it doesnt always pay off to wear your seatbelt

[–]Tacos4ever100 2 points3 points ago

That guy just used her as an excuse to go down the up elevator. Lucky.

OMG OMG I CANT FEEL MY LEGS!

[–]foil-time 2 points3 points ago

Nah, she just wanted to see what it felt like to be inside a rock tumbler.

Sadly NOT only in America...

NSFW I guess

And yes, it was fatal

[–]Offic3RTac0 1 point2 points ago

I can only hope she didn't drop her big Mac and Diet coke

[–]Keyblade_Titan 6 points7 points ago

I laughed harder than i should have

[–]plasmalaser1 7 points8 points ago

Some would say you didn't laugh hard enough

[–]epsilonbob 5 points6 points ago

But what is your stance on the titanium tax?

[–]Bizzlo 3 points4 points ago

A time when a big red STOP button would come in handy.. oh wait.. they have those already.

[–]texiy 4 points5 points ago

OMG I read this in the metro and literally laughed out loud on the train, thanks for posting this, it's even funnier than in my imagination!

[–]anAccountUntaken 17 points18 points ago

I know this woman. She was doped out on pain pills and benzodiazepines. She's not afraid to get hurt to increase her prescription.

[–]MestR 80 points81 points ago

I'm going to trust you on that one because you're anonymous on the internet.

[–]Infectlol 25 points26 points ago

I am said woman and I can confirm this.

[–]dszordan 13 points14 points ago

Why would anyone upvote this terrible bit of anecdotal evidence?

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 30 points31 points ago

I know him, he's legit.

[–]Oatybar 14 points15 points ago

I can vouch for him knowing him.

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 3 points4 points ago

Thanks man, I don't know you but somehow I can always count on you backing up my words.

[–]silverstream314 1 point2 points ago

Do people who are not paralyzed use these things? Seems completely absurd...

[–]kaushalp88 1 point2 points ago

If it didn't work the first time, why did she try again and again?

[–]jzsk8s89 1 point2 points ago

It's like what happens when you put a slinky on an escalator

[–]barium111 1 point2 points ago

Yes. Yes she did.

[–]jezustits 1 point2 points ago

Doesn't show the whole story- news reports said that she walked away without injury...welcome to South Boston (cue Dropkick Murphys).

[–]theConVick 1 point2 points ago

They see me rollin', they hatin.

[–]VirogenicFawn21 1 point2 points ago

I laughed so hard at this.... I know I've got a special spot saved for me in hell.

[–]minimuzza 1 point2 points ago

Mustn't. Laugh.

[–]New_High_Score 1 point2 points ago

am i a bad person for laughing at this till my stomach hurt?

[–]drewhoff 1 point2 points ago

Ive actually seen a man in a wheel chair do this successfully. He just man handled both rails and rode the entire way up. Needless to say i was rather impressed.

[–]Darkra1n 1 point2 points ago

Damnit. Couldn't keep a straight face. I suck.

[–]falcy 1 point2 points ago

Would it be difficult to make them wheelchair accessible?

If it detected a wheelchair, it could lock 3-4 steps on the same level, tilted so that the char cannot fall.

[–]BonkVonFuzzle 1 point2 points ago

Why do people always intervene with natural selection?

[–]cictem 1 point2 points ago

I don't even feel a bit sorry for this woman, natural selection.

[–]DontGetMadGetGlad 1 point2 points ago

[–]jcrowz 1 point2 points ago

If no one ever helped her would she just fall forever?

[–]ElKaBongX 1 point2 points ago

And this is why walmart is only one level

[–]paki123 1 point2 points ago

idk y, but i think she deserved that...

[–]Punkwasher 1 point2 points ago

Okay... so... you're already in an electric wheel-chair... and you still find it necessary to take the escalator? The wheelchair will not care, you're not saving yourself any energy, this is lazy².

[–]DMercenary 1 point2 points ago

On one hand, I feel bad for laughing at this.

On the other, I shouldnt feel bad because this person was STUPID.

This from ABC: "A Boston commuter’s lack of foresight — and, some may say, common sense — led her to tumble off of her motorized scooter and down a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority escalator this week.

In the video, shot by a surveillance camera and released by the MBTA, an unidentified 56-year-old woman is seen heading toward the “up” escalator on her scooter at the Broadway MBTA station in Boston. Her attempt to get an easy ride upstairs is cut short when the back of the scooter flips over as she clutches the railing, and she quickly goes tumbling out.

The MBTA said there was an elevator 50 feet away.

The woman tumbles over completely, her scooter falling over her head, before a man on the escalator above her rushes to help her. She almost pulls him down with her as he tries to help.

Other passengers rushed to help the woman, and a station attendant quickly stops the escalator belt as the man who initially helped her holds her and her scooter steady.

Don’t feel too badly for the woman, though. She may not have needed the scooter too badly, as at the end of the clip she is seen standing up and able to walk away."
