What's really going on, is that the one picking up the clothes is a house elf, and it would be a grave insult to give him clothing/set him free.

[–]MinneapolisNick 45 points46 points ago

That was a mean thing to do to Brian Scalabrine.

[–]Jeroknite 35 points36 points ago

I don't get this joke. Why did I go to a post about sports?! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT?!

[–]MinneapolisNick 15 points16 points ago

Allow me to explain.

This gif was created from footage taken at a game where LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers were playing the Chicago Bulls. One of the players for the Bulls is a guy named Brian Scalabrine. Scalabrine is a favorite of Bulls fans, but he's really no good at basketball by NBA standards. It's become a tradition when the Bulls are up by a big margin near the end of a game for the fans to start chanting for Scalabrine, and to loudly cheer when he gets in the game. My joke was that Scalabrine was the ballboy.

On a side note, Scalabrine is a pretty awesome guy. He was with the Boston Celtics when they recently won the championship, and his press conference after the win was absolutely hilarious.

Could you explain what you mean? I don't watch it as I don't live in the US.

[–]ensabahnur 1 point2 points ago

Lebron James is the best player the National Basketball Association has seen in 20 years. He played 7 years for his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers fresh out of high school. He was a major source of income for the city (kind of sad, no one really wants to visit Cleveland as it has a bad rep), a fun-loving guy, and the hometown hero. He was beloved by most U.S. sports fans.

Cue 2010 when James is now an unrestricted free agent and can pursue any team that offers him a contract (anyone with money was clamoring for his talents). For 7 years he toiled away on a bad team that appeared good only because of his brilliance. He only reached the NBA finals once and got swept. There was a month-long sports media circus surrounding his choice and it culminated with a one-hour TV special, "The Decision", which he organized to end speculation and also to benefit charity.

Long story short he chose to play for Miami, gutting his hero-worshippers in Cleveland on national TV. People were burning his jersey in the streets. He was getting chastised for going to play with another superstar, Dwyane (not a typo) Wade. In his first year in Miami he reached the NBA finals but lost in part to his absence in the 4th quarters of games (inexplicable) which drew mega criticism.

NOW, a month ago he won the NBA finals through transcendent play, crafting together monster numbers and one of the greatest single-game NBA playoff performances of all time (game 6 of the Boston series). He won both NBA finals MVP and the NBA MVP, his 3rd in 4 years. 8 players have ever won 3 MVP's in the NBA (been around since 50's).

Because of what he did to Cleveland people who don't watch the NBA have an opinion of his personality. Because of how he played in the 2011 finals (4th quarter choking) people who don't watch the NBA have an opinion of his game. Every single thread about Lebron James in the past 2 years always includes the phrases "Lebron's a douche" and "Lebron can't play". These are ignorant statements because Lebron is a terrific teammate who willingly passes up shots if his teammates are open. He is humble, accepts his mistakes on and off the court, and strives to better himself as a person and player. Saying Lebron can't play is the dumbest statement ever; his resume of MVP's, a title, his stats and his highlights should make obvious his immense talent and skill. In this thread, I've seen "Lebron's a douche" multiple times because of this out-of-context 6 second gif. Hence the comment :)

[–]WarrenHarding 593 points594 points ago

I'd first like to say that this is coming from a New York Knicks fan, so we're supposed to hate LeBron, but I have some things to say about the circlejerk going on in this thread.

  1. I can't find the source but I definitely remember seeing somewhere that this gif is entirely out of context, and LeBron is just goofing around with the kid. He also knows he is on national TV so he wouldn't actually be a dick while millions are watching - he was just kidding around.

  2. This video was when he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a time when he was hated a LOT less than he is now. I'm sure many people wouldn't have reacted that way had they seen it back then. (this is also why it's been passed around a lot recently, because everyone hates him now)

  3. For the people complaining about him making so much money: this man has worked unbelievably hard to get where he is, and it's arguable that he will become the best basketball player of all time over Jordan, if he isn't the greatest already. You have to give the man some credit.

  4. I know it's the norm right now to hate LeBron, because of the 'decision', but if you followed his career in the past year, you will find that he has matured greatly. Many (not all) people who follow the NBA who hated him now see how he has grown and respect how he has won. I'm sorry to say it but hating LeBron is outdated.

  5. Speaking of the decision, this seems to be the only reason non-basketball fans hate him, and many of them don't even understand the whole story behind it.

EDIT: I'd just like to also add how reddit doubts the worth of sports players in general. Lets be honest, the four major sports leagues (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL) make a LOT of money. This is from ticket prices, merchandise, endorsements, and what have you. The owners of teams are also worth millions, sometimes billions, of dollars. The leagues ALSO happen to consistently donate money to charity to help children and other people in poverty. These are the role models that many children aspire to be, due to their work ethic and talent. For the people who say that the athletes don't deserve that much: what do you suppose they do with the money? Donate even more to charity? The NBA (and the other leagues) is a business, not a charity. If you worked for a company that suddenly started making millions and millions in profit, your plan of action would most likely not be "Let's donate it all to charity", it's "Let's give everyone who worked so hard to make this company what it is more money" /rant. (sorry for repeatedly using 'charity')

[–]WHiTErTheNBlack 182 points183 points ago

I agree with everything but the G.O.A.T. MJ did space jam and i remember that movie scene for scene and had all the shwag. There is literally 1 way LBJ can over take MJ. Dunk from the in bound versus the Mon-Stars. Until then hell b #2

[–]drmoocow 167 points168 points ago

And my 1993 commemorative Bulls championship watch has never steered me wrong!

[–]vish4l 4 points5 points ago

you can't compare jordan to lebron just yet...

[–]AmericanDerp 23 points24 points ago

arguable that he will become the best basketball player of all time over Jordan, if he isn't the greatest already.

Seriously, people keep saying this, but how is anyone going to surpass Jordan unless they get basically all of these:

  • 7 NBA championship titles
  • 7 NBA Finals MVP titles
  • 6 NBA MVP titles
  • 10+ NBA Scoring championships
  • Multiple offensive and defensive player of the year titles
  • Olympic gold
  • Single handedly repeatedly carry your team across the finish line
  • Multiple times light up your biggest foes in dramatic fashion: "I'm back" -- lights up the Knicks for 55. Wins a Finals game sidelined by flu. The Shot over Ehlo in Cleveland. The Shot 2 to win the third three-peat. 25 buzzer beaters to win games in his career, including one for a championship. Not just once--got to the well repeatedly to win games and playoff series nearly on your own.

That would arguably put someone ahead of Jordan, since players are ranked in the history books on achievements, not on skill or power. Look at in baseball, at Barry Bonds, all the steroids crap aside. Fifty years from now he'll be a footnote in the record books, because: no title. Once you get to guys with multiple titles, then you start getting elite. Then you have to compare them against the sum total of their achievements.

Because, as seen here, then championships alone don't do it. If Lebron can win 7 championships, he'll pick up the other accolades, in all likelihood. Kobe came closest since Jordan to the title of Greatest Ever, and he's fallen a bit short as well.

Don't get me wrong, LeBron is and will be one of the greatest of all time. Top 10, for sure. Top 5, easily, if he can win 2-3 more titles, up there with Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Jabbar. But number one?

What does LeBron have at age 27 and with just one title over Jordan, with his entire career and six titles?

[–]blanknames 14 points15 points ago

What about Bill Russell?

11x NBA Championship 5x MVP 5x Rebounding Champion Gold Medal The Finals MVP trophy is named after him

The more astounding thing is he did this all while only being in the league for 13 years. He played a different style of bball then jordan, he wasnt the one scoring, but when you look at what he did, he definetly has to be in the conversation for GOAT

[–]mbss 4 points5 points ago

yeah, but i think even bill russell would admit that he was never the player that jordan was. jordan changed the game and brought in so much interest. bill russell isn't even the greatest player of his generation if you make a solid argument for wilt chamberlin. both russell and chamberlin were athletic big men during a time where there wasn't much competition. how do you think chamberlin scored 100. russell never got close to that.

No doubt, russell was fantastic. but i doubt that many bball historians and fans put him ahead of jordan.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]gmsone 1 point2 points ago

What I love about this argument is that you're forgetting who were defending people at that time. Rodman, Barkley, Malone, etc. Clyde Drexler could have handled lebron. Malone would have had his number for sure.

[–]raincoatx 1 point2 points ago

Bill Russel was undoubtedly better than Wilt. In the 10 years that they battled, Bill won 9 titles while Wilt won 1.

[–]mbss 0 points1 point ago

the Celtics were better. russell played with guys like bob cousy and bill sharman. legends in their own rights. even though he never has as much backup chamberlin often outperformed russell in their head to head matchups.

[–]raincoatx 1 point2 points ago

Yea, but people here keep equating titles to being better ("LeBron sucks bc he only has one title in a lockout season", etc).

[–]AmericanDerp 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, he should up there too.

[–]dannytt 10 points11 points ago

Single handedly repeatedly carry your team across the finish line?

WHAT?

The Bulls were an INCREDIBLY stacked team back then. They would have been championship contenders without Jordan, let alone with him. Jordan did not win a ring until he was 27 and they got Pippen. Lebron has already done in cleveland (taking a team SOLO to the finals) what Jordan never has.

[–]Gerryoak 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, they had some top notch roeplayers as well. Like Steve Kerr and Dennis Rodman.

[–]raincoatx 3 points4 points ago

And the greatest coach ever. While LBJ had Mike Brown and Spoelstra.

[–]Dave_the_lighting_gu 1 point2 points ago

Would have been? They were contenders without him... Got hosed in the playoffs.

[–]JustMadeYouYawn 6 points7 points ago

Alright, I'm not at all defending the comment that LBJ will become GOAT but a lot of your reasoning just doesn't make a lick of sense:

6 NBA MVP titles

Basketball is inherently a team sport and individual titles like MVP RoY CoY etc are too one dimensional to become measurements of greatness. If next season, KD averages 40 ppg and 0 assist/rebound while CP3 averages 30 assist and 0 ppg/rebound, and Bynum pulls down 30 rebounds, who gets the MVP? Of course everyone gets a mix bag of stats but the logic still stands: how do we weigh ppg vs apg vs rpg, etc? Is one ppg worth 2 apg? The other way around? But even disregarding all of this, Lebron ALREADY has 3 MVPs. He leads his team in every statistical category. Who in this league will contend for MVP in the next few years? Jordan had only 5 MVPs when he ended his career at 40 years old, so LBJ most likely ending his career with more MVPs with Jordan, which of course doesn't really matter.

10+ NBA Scoring championships

Again, another one dimensional stat in a team game. NO ONE is doubting that Lebron can dominate scoring in this league if he just wants to fill up that stat. But he's a championship leader, he plays a much bigger game that makes his entire team better and push them to championship contention. Let's look at his average from this season: 8 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 27 points with 53.1% FG. What stats did the scoring leader have last season? 8 rebounds, only 3.5 assists, 28 points with ONLY 49.6% FG. Even when it comes to scoring, Lebron is more efficient than the league leader. If he wants, he can jack up an extra two more shots per game instead of assisting and have more ppg and still more apg. High scoring doesn't mean much if it isn't efficient, anyone can jack up threes all game @ even 25% shooting and probably lead the league in scoring.

Olympic gold

Why did you include this? LBJ already tied Jordan, and if he wins another this year, wouldn't this be something LBJ has over Jordan? Of course MJ only played in 92'.

Single handedly repeatedly carry your team across the finish line

That's the biggest load of crap that has come out of Jordan's legacy. Jordan wasn't winning championships until his team started getting stacked. Starting with Hall of Famer Scottie, then probably one of the greatest coaches of all time Phil Jackson, then one of the all time great rebounder/defensive player Dennis Rodman, and he also had one of the all time best 3 point shooter in Steve Kerr. You really think if you replaced Jordan with Lebron, he wouldn't win those championships as well? And let's look at Lebron for a minute. Who the heck did he have on the Cavs to help him win a championship? Were there ANY hall of famers on his team? What about his coach? Role players? Do you honestly think Jordan could have won a championship with that team? Even though this is a team sport, Lebron came as close as anyone to SINGLE HANDEDLY carrying that god-awful cavs to the NBA finals in 2007. When Lebron left the Cavs, that team went from conference leader to one of the worst teams in the league. Even his current Miami team got nothing on what Jordan's team had.

Multiple times light up your biggest foes in dramatic fashion: "I'm back" -- lights up the Knicks for 55.

What does this even mean? And did you even watch Lebron in this year's playoffs? Semi conf finals: Pacers up 2-1 in the series, if they win 3-1 it was pretty much game over for Miami. Lebron comes in and drops 40 fuckings points, 18 fucking rebounds, AND 9 fucking assists. That was one of the ALL TIME best playoffs performance. It was absolutely disgusting and saved Miami from a very likely second round exit. And what about the next round when Celtics went 3-2 against the Heat? It was elimination game 6 played IN BOSTON. Everyone ruled the Heat out because they never win elimination games at Boston. Lebron comes in and drops 45 fucking points, 15 fucking rebounds, and 5 fucking assists. IN BOSTON. He led his team in every category. And game 7 vs their conference rival, he drops and "mere" 31 points and 12 rebounds. And I'm sorry there were no buzzer beaters in the finals because of how much the Heat dominated the Thunders in the finals. The same Thunders who beat a Juggernaut 30 game undefeated Spurs in the West.

Look, I'm not saying Lebron is better than Jordan, but let's not use misleading stats/accomplishments to inflate Jordan's legend. He was an amazing player who started winning championships with A LOT of help. Before Scottie stepped up, the conversation about Jordan was very similar to what we hear about Lebron in recent history: "Sure Jordan's a great player and can fill up stats, but can he win championships? He can never match Bill Russell in championships, how can he be in GOAT talks?"

[–]Procrastibater 1 point2 points ago

Agree with everything you said until you made the Barry Bonds comment. Baseball players are judged much differently then basketball players and to say Barry Bonds will be a footnote bc he doesn't have a title is just flat out retarded. The man has better numbers than any other player in history, and in baseball that is by faaaaar the best way players can be judged. The only caveat with Bonds is the steroids, but any sensible baseball fan doesn't give two shits about a World series title when ranking him against the other all-time greats.

[–]RobertFreeman 0 points1 point ago

Not going to make a long post because I've argued this many times over in /r/nba, but the only player who could legitimately be argued as the greatest of all-time other than Jordan is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

6time champion, 6time league MVP (most all time), 10 finals appearances, 1st all time in points, 3rd all-time in rebounds, 2nd all time in games, 19 all-star games in 20 years played (most all-time), greatest center of all time and imo no less than the 2nd greatest player of all-time.

[–]tehjarvis 8 points9 points ago

ESPN talked him into it. He didn't want to do it at first, but they convinced him by saying he’s the biggest free agent of all time, it would give a ton of attention to the NBA and whatever team he joined, would personally give him a ton of exposure and make him the most popular guy in the NBA and they could raise money for charity...the same night, right after it aired they did everything they could to paint him as a villain, saying he was slapping poor Cavs fans in the face on national television and rubbing their noise in the fact he ruined their franchise, speculating how much the economy in Cleveland would suffer...generally accused him of breaking the hearts of an entire city without remorse and taking a shit on their economy while they were already suffering from high unemployment. As an Ohioan and Cavs fan, I don't hate LeBron...it may not have been an attractive market before LeBron arrived, but it was worse once ESPN got finished taking about how the franchise was absolutely ruined all day every day during free agency, when they had plenty of money freed up.

[–]skripklubbin 14 points15 points ago

Actually this was all Maverick Carter's idea. But don't let that get in the way of your karma train.

[–]WarrenHarding 3 points4 points ago

While I'm not sure if this is entirely true, I can't say I doubt you because ESPN is no better than People Magazine.

I once saw someone call it E!SPN, made me laugh.

[–]poopballzez 7 points8 points ago

Ok, i will stop hating LeBron because it is outdated. I need to stay hip.

[–]TrojanX 11 points12 points ago

I stopped reading when u said he might be better than Jordan.

[–]holytrolly 10 points11 points ago

-------For the people complaining about him making so much money: this man has worked unbelievably hard to get where he is, and it's arguable that he will become the best basketball player of all time over Jordan, if he isn't the greatest already. You have to give the man some credit.

To be fair, while I'm not denying he's worked hard, a LOT of people work hard. My dad has worked in the coal mines since he was 18 (he's 52 now) and that is hard, back breaking labor. My grandpa worked in the mines for 45 years as well. My literally runs a livestock farm completely by himself.

I just finished my 2nd tour of Afghanistan last year, where I was in a convoy involved in an IED roadside bombing. My teacher in tech school has a prosthetic leg from the knee down after stepping on a landmine, either in Iraq or Afghanistan, I don't recall.

These people work hard and literally make a fraction of what he makes. I know he's "special" because he's an athlete, and not everyone can be a pro athlete, but not everyone can get their leg blown off in war and then return to the service to teach, either. I just find the argument that he deserves his money completely grating and frustrating.

[–]moldy912 6 points7 points ago

He only makes that money because that's what consumers pay him. If fans weren't willing to pay thousands of dollars for court-side seats, he would make much less. It's demand based.

[–]holytrolly 2 points3 points ago

Excellent point.

[–]Lazy_I 11 points12 points ago

Your father, teacher, and you do not bring in millions of dollars to your employers. You all seem to be wonderful and/or hardworking people, but that isn't what determines salaries. He deserves the money because he makes his higher-ups even more than he's paid. Like, way more.

[–]holytrolly 0 points1 point ago

I'm not disagreeing, per se. I know WHY he makes the money, I just think it's sad and ironic. Soldiers, police officers, firefighters... people like these sacrifice everything so that people like James can get crazy rich off of playing a game. Miners, utility workers, etc work crazy hours away from their families in hazardous jobs just to power the tvs so we can watch these sports. I'm not saying I know of a better way, because I don't. It's just sad.

[–]Lazy_I 1 point2 points ago

I understand what you're saying, and agree with the concept of hard working heroes deserving better than what they get, but you're ignoring a very important part of the equation: He makes millions to entertain millions of people.

After their long days of hard work for low pay, those soldiers, police officers, firefighters, etc, can finish their work for the day and take their mind off of things with some entertainment. His service may not be as heroic, but it's still very valuable.

[–]sheeshman 0 points1 point ago

Didn't they say the economic loss to the cleveland area was over 100 million?

[–]WarrenHarding 6 points7 points ago

I honestly can't argue with that, you have an extremely fair point. All I can say is that you and your family and everyone else in those situations aren't paid fairly at all.

[–]holytrolly 3 points4 points ago

i'm not trying to bring my family and i any glory or anything like that, its just the best example i had at hand. people all over the country risk their life, bust their asses, and sacrifice everything so that people like lebron james can be overpaid. don't get me wrong, i love sports, especially football, and they deserve to be paid a lot, i just think the situation is just sad and kind of ironic.

[–]phillipjfried 1 point2 points ago

You play the cards you are dealt. Some people have better hands than others.

[–]Its_Not_Important 1 point2 points ago

I think that is a totally fair point. He does not necessarily labor or risk more than many hardworking people and so does not necessarily 'deserve' more. However, your problem seems to be with the structure of society and the free market economics at work rather than Lebron James himself. Currently the economic system we function in basically determines that the more money you generate and bring to your employers the more money you will make. Does he deserve to make that much on a 'moral' or 'ethical' scale (for lack of better words), no probably not. As you said he is not necessarily a better or harder working person than many people out there. However, if 'deserve' is measured in respect to the amount of money he helps bring the Heat Franchise, the NBA and various brands that sponsor him, then yes he does. In fact based on that way one could say he deserves as much or more than the owner (who make a lot more than the players) whose brand he helps to appreciate. Your point is fair, it is not his hard work that makes him deserving of his salary, instead it is the economic system he functions in, and his ability to bring his employers an incredible amount of money through his unique athletic skill set.

[–]MrBullyGoat 22 points23 points ago

he will become the best basketball player of all time over Jordan, if he isn't the greatest already.

LOL, wat?

[–]Woozer 17 points18 points ago

it's arguable that he will become the best basketball player of all time over Jordan

emphasis added

That little bit is important in understanding that OP is noting it is possible, not stating it as a certainty.

[–]immoralminority 8 points9 points ago

It's arguable in that someone can say it and the rest of us have to roll our eyes at it.*

source

[–]WarrenHarding 6 points7 points ago

Mind explaining your point a little clearer?

edit: I also like how you left out the part where I said that part was arguable. If you want to have a discussion about why your opinion differs rather than posting reaction images, I'm perfectly glad to.

[–]Virindi_UO -4 points-3 points ago

Lebron James isn't shit compared to Michael Jordan. I thought it was perfectly clear.

[–]Kvaerner 6 points7 points ago

you were ten when Jordan retired

[–]Woozer 0 points1 point ago

Isn't shit to MJ in what way? He's as if not more athletically monstrous. He's a better passer. He appears to be a more likeable human being (not saying much, MJ was a man obsessed and consumed with proving he was better). LeBron is clearly a damn good basketball player. Even if you think he isn't as good as MJ, he's not that far off if you're being fair.

I doubt LeBron will end up passing Jordan, but it's possible, and most statements about how shit will end up are kind of pointless, because Lebron has quite a few years left in his career.

[–]Virindi_UO 1 point2 points ago

Take a look into Michael Jordan and see how many NBA championships he won with a shot at the buzzer. That, and that alone, makes him better than Lebron, without taking into consideration all of his other accomplishments in the sport.

[–]klieber 1 point2 points ago

Isn't shit to MJ in what way?

Here's one example: Michael was money in clutch situations. The dude flat out thrived on them and came through time after time after time after time.

Lebron? Yeah...let's just say he doesn't have the same batting average MJ did in clutch situations.

[–]Woozer 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I see. For a player to have any worth, he has to be "clutch".

Hey, Michael Jordan isn't shit to LeBron James. Here's an example: LeBron is one of the greatest passer's with some of the best court vision we've seen.

Michael Jordan? Let's just say he's not quite as good as LeBron.

Their games are different, and they're different people. LeBron doesn't have to be Michael to be comparable to him. Why can't he be like Magic? Is Magic "not shit to MJ" either?

And for the record, it's not like LeBron folds into a corner and dies everyone time something big is at stake, remember game 6 at Celtics? He's clearly not as clutch as Jordan, but he has another 7 years at least to get better at it, and even if he never does, he can still be an amazing player. Not everyone has to be clutch to be great.

[–]jcmc2112 4 points5 points ago

Another thing that many people don'r realize is that LeBron didn't go to Miami for the money. He could have made millions more with other teams, but he instead chose to take a cut in salary (along with Bosh & Wade) to join Miami in hopes of winning a championship.

[–]CaptAwesomepants 3 points4 points ago

Nice try, LeBron.

[–]stevenwalters 5 points6 points ago

he's got a looooong way to go before he catches up to Jordan, hell, he's still got a ways to go to catch up to Kobe.

[–]rosski47 7 points8 points ago

In what ways is he not better than Kobe, other than as a shooter? For my money, Lebron's game is far more complete than Kobe's.

Don't get me wrong, I think Kobe is an all-time great, but I don't see how you could make the argument that he's better than Lebron at this point, let alone say he's way ahead.

[–]GandalfTheFunky 2 points3 points ago

A friend of mine is an Orlando Magic girl. I live in NE Ohio. She confirmed while he was still in CLE that he's a total ass.

[–]sheeshman 7 points8 points ago

You know how many people would say that about Jordan? If jordan played today, he would be hated much more than lebron. Compulsive gambler, an asshole to teammates, adulterer, superiority complex, etc.

[–]TigOlBitties95 1 point2 points ago

Youre a knicks fan too? Shit. Thank god i found another.

[–]WarrenHarding 1 point2 points ago

Come join us at /r/NYKnicks !!!

[–]raincoatx 1 point2 points ago

Knicks fan here. Why I continue to be, I have no idea.

[–]Leadmeister 0 points1 point ago

My Brother works at an airport FBO that LeBron flies into a lot to meet with John Henry about Liverpool FC.

He maintains to this day that LeBron is the biggest asshole to come in. Never tips, never says thank you and never helps.

His mother and brother on the other hand are very nice people.

[–]EJR94 2 points3 points ago

I don't know where you would tip someone in an airport??? And in all honesty apart from being a minority share holder I somewhat doubt he bothers with doing much else other than publicity for Liverpool.

[–]Alreadyhaveone 1 point2 points ago

With you the whole way besides the better than Jordan part. Agree to disagree.

[–]WarrenHarding 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I mean I can't form an opinion myself because I wasn't a B-Ball fan when he was big, but it's just what I've heard from people who were fans during that time. Some agreed, some disagreed, that's why I said it was arguable. Glad you disagreed in a much more civilized manner than some of the other people though.

[–]ramesali786 1 point2 points ago

I think that's the issue of the society we live in, we're really quick to go with the present. There was a time when Grant Hill was the next Jordan. Then Kobe (Who is my absolute favorite athlete) and Lebron. I'd love to see him become that, but Jordan had an indescribable "it" factor. It's the kinda thing you had to see or be there to understand. But I respect a Knick fan that can be real about Lebron.

[–]karmaceutical 0 points1 point ago

Ill leave this here, the closest thing we have to comparing lebron to mj - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player_efficiency_rating

[–]Saltshark 0 points1 point ago

Well said as a celtics fan given the last 3 playoffs I have grown to the the heat but Lebron James is still an amazing player and person and does not deserve the hate that he is receiving.

[–]eeyoreftw 0 points1 point ago

Lebron will never be better than Jordan. You're fucking stupid for even thinking it.

[–]MoosyFate 0 points1 point ago

Have to disagree about him being worth the amount of money he makes.. not saying he didn't bust his butt to be where he is (I personally wouldn't know as I don't watch sports or care too much about who's who) but he's not a doctor, or any of the professions that are focussed on saving lives, making discoveries that could cure diseases, hunger, etc. Those people are typically underpaid, overworked, and the 1st thing on the chopping block in the political sphere.

That's where there's a problem... when the contribution to society doesn't match the pay range.

just my 2 cents

[–]I_I_II_III_IIIII 0 points1 point ago

Lebron has already shown he will never be quite as brilliant as Jordan. There is no way that's happening. He has not dominated statistically (Jordan led the league in everything every full, injury-free year of his career, Wizards stint excepted). He also never lost in the Finals and his mystique and dominance in the clutch is simply unparalleled (or least, certainly not by Lebron).

As for the gif I don't know the back story so I'll take your word for it...but HA HA HA I guess real funny way to joke around with a lowly towel boy when you're a 6'8" god with a charmed life. Jordan was a prick too, to the right people...he used his psychopathy on the right things and channeled it on the court.

TL DR - just because there's a circlejerk about Lebron doesn't mean it isn't warranted. The guy is unlikable, and he's not the GOAT. MJ is until further notice.

[–]KaoticS 0 points1 point ago

I stopped reading your comment at "For the people complaining about him making so much money: this man has worked unbelievably hard to get where he is, and it's arguable that he will become the best basketball player of all time over Jordan"

When lebum gets 6 rings then and only then maybe can you make that comparison.

Damn

[–]electricmice 0 points1 point ago

i stopped reading after you said lebron might be better than jordan. i'm no blind fan jordan fan, i've seen lebron play and it's not even close to being clutch like jordan. you lost all your credibility after that.

[–]itskerem 4 points5 points ago

I remember when I worked in the service industry, I really loved when the ppl I was trying to serve would "goof around" with me. Except not really.

[–]iamdink 3 points4 points ago

Sacramento Kings Fan here, just kidding.

[–]a_ter 3 points4 points ago

The comments from people who don't watch basketball are golden x)

[–]Redditr89 11 points12 points ago

At least he didn't throw it in an old lady's face like kobe

[–]1nf1del 0 points1 point ago

omg this is fucking priceless. I've been dying for the last ten minutes.

[–]Eeyore_ 5 points6 points ago

You've been dying for much longer than that.

[–]1nf1del 1 point2 points ago

Good point.

[–]steveish 49 points50 points ago

all these people hating someone because of a 6 second gif...

[–]dsr541 39 points40 points ago

Kinda how reddit works. People think they can judge a persons character and their entire life off of one snippet of a gif.

[–]jdcooktx 61 points62 points ago

i can tell by your post, you're a racist.

[–]JohnYou 3 points4 points ago

And probably a Republican, because as everyone here knows, they're all the same.

[–]illmatic707 1 point2 points ago

Or what kind of T-shirt they wear. If it's a Tapout shirt they are automatically a douchebag, but if they dress like a skinny nerd then it's mean to make judgements.

[–]ramesali786 4 points5 points ago

To be fair...I mean...Tapout...C'mon.

[–]schnitzi 9 points10 points ago

Yes, we all hate him because of this gif, having never heard anything about him before this.

[–]Qrotch 32 points33 points ago

I personally think its funny as hell...

He was clearly just fucking with the road ball boy...

[–]uRabbit 2 points3 points ago

Not sure how this is funny...

[–]mazingerz021 2 points3 points ago

Believe it or not Lebron's actually a goofball. He was just messing with the ball boy.

[–]FunkyHeadshot 6 points7 points ago

Can't people just complain about Kobe making $24,000,000?

[–]3BetLight 4 points5 points ago

$27,849,000

[–]aebler 1 point2 points ago

To be honest it really doesn't anger me that ppl like him make detestable amounts of money if they don't act like it's making them humans of higher value.

[–]laststance 18 points19 points ago

Let me take things out of context and not explain that this is a joke that a lot of NBA stars play on the ball boys. Let me bait out people.

[–]Xemic 4 points5 points ago

ball boys hehe good guy federer

[–]braves91 6 points7 points ago

I don't think i've seen a thread with more down votes in the comments.

[–]moldy912 8 points9 points ago

Well, I'm just downvoting all the idiots in here who have never watched a sporting event, especially ones in which ball and towel boys are teased by the athletes. It's amazing how Reddit can talk about shit it doesn't even know.

[–]southAfRknCraka 9 points10 points ago

Wait, why are we supposed to hate this guy?

[–]illmatic707 1 point2 points ago

Cause reddit thinks he's just doing this because he has a gigantic ego, bu he's actually just having fun hazing a kid like you do with rookies in EVERY fucking sport.

[–]Bencool 1 point2 points ago

He can finally propose the right way.

[–]BobPissSanders 8 points9 points ago

Dear god there is a lot of stupidity on this thread. Hey everybody, lets judge a person based off a six second clip. The only difference between him and you (besides the obvious) is that when you act like a jerk on occasion, it isn't recorded and judged by everybody.

[–]dangeraardvark 10 points11 points ago

The NBA is a waste of giants. They should be either be fighting each other for sport or rescuing kitties from high places. Or fighting elves.

[–]clamdog 2 points3 points ago

or challenging other worlds for the fate of their planet via basketball match.

[–]jdubd 2 points3 points ago

Pick my shit up cracka!

[–]Bricely 8 points9 points ago

If a 6 second gif of this gets people stirred up, I can't imagine what a 30 second gif would do. Let's not forget the fact that the context of which this is taken in is completely skewed.

When are haters going to learn and move on?

[–]Alareiks 6 points7 points ago

I think the only people that are allowed to hate LeBron at this point are Clevelanders, in which case we will continue to do so proudly. :)

[–]AdonisDNA76 2 points3 points ago

What if the kid was a little asshole & deserved it? No one knows.

[–]raincoatx 2 points3 points ago

It's King James. If you're going to insult the man at least learn his nickname properly.

[–]Bunyungtung 1 point2 points ago

Hope he breaks his leg.

[–]Vixerox 9 points10 points ago

God Damn, I'm not the biggest Lebron fan in the world either but if there's one person everyone in America would love to hate it's Lebron James. And as of late in my opinion he's done a pretty damn good job of not letting it get to him.

Yes the 1 hour special sucked, but holy fuck can we find someone else to hate already >.>

Hit me with the downvotes but i'm pretty fucking sick of the Mob mentality.

[–]JustDame 4 points5 points ago

the money raised on "the decision" went to a charity

[–]D_EndroPhile 0 points1 point ago

I give you an upvote for honesty, but god help me I hate that son of a bitch.

[–]Toobad113 5 points6 points ago

Never liked him anyways

[–]dsr541 8 points9 points ago

So brave

[–]Jayers 2 points3 points ago

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't strongly hate Lebron...

[–]ryokotsusei 1 point2 points ago

Every NBA player does this.

[–]isthattombrady 1 point2 points ago

Is that Tom Brady?

[–]michaelpaulhartman 1 point2 points ago

Anyone got a video of another player doing this? Every other comment in this thread says that this is commonplace for players to do this, but I have never seen it except for this video from like 4 years ago.

[–]loldinosaur 1 point2 points ago

What a prick

[–]crunch816 0 points1 point ago

Those kids are paid to work on court next to pro superstars. I would gladly put up with picking up after LeBron for a job.

[–]jmac217 0 points1 point ago

What a dick

[–]shhyguuy 1 point2 points ago

What an asshole

[–]mayowarlord 2 points3 points ago

Just dropped in to say FUCK THAT GUY!

[–]youngatheist 1 point2 points ago

please what's with the lebron hate? like you wouldnt leave cleveland aka the mistake by the lake for miami! not like he's had any criminal problems like kobe.

[–]Frostler 2 points3 points ago

Why is this here, this happened like five years ago.

[–]positivefeelings 0 points1 point ago

what a dick

[–]LebronSucks 3 points4 points ago

Hence my username.

[–]turnoverkid 0 points1 point ago

what a disgusting piece of entitled garbage. this is (mostly) the kind of over-payed(mostly) racist people fans are supporting by watching sports like basketball. they arent real athletes. they cry about not being payed enough, or not getting enough recognition. and when asian basketball player jeremy lin gets recognition, they cry because they feel like theyre just as good as him but dont get any spotlight because theyre black. thats why basketball isn't a team sport in a lot of their eyes because they want to be the one shining. fucking fools

[–]Mysterions 0 points1 point ago

Professional athletics are just soap opera for men. Everything is so melodramatic....

Here's my 2 cents: Lebron is a great player. I don't think he's as good as Jordan, but he's the best player of the current generation. What bothers me about him though is all the celebrity nonsense that follows him around. It comes across as obnoxious and it distracts from his skill as a player. Also, I do think it's fair to say he choked in last year's finals. It also bothers me that people seem to think he's entitled to a championships. So if Lebron would just chill out, stay out of the celebrity lime-light and play ball I think people would be on his side - he's a great player and is fun to watch after all.

[–]afihavok 0 points1 point ago

I heard from some people who worked there that he was an absolute bitch during his first olympic experience. Total asshat. Essentially the whole team/staff absolutely hated him. Literal crybaby too apparently.

[–]isellthings 0 points1 point ago

TIL there are a lot of floridians on reddit

[–]Modest_Baus 0 points1 point ago

Douche

[–]jackfreeman 0 points1 point ago

The incredible bastard.

...

...

I would totally do the same thing. Every goddamn time. Then I would get in his face and say "KING JAMES, BITCH!!!" and throw a thousand bucks in his face like confetti.

Then pants him.

[–]lolrebbitaccount 0 points1 point ago

Lil bitch lebron

[–]chase17 0 points1 point ago

I dont think one shithead moment is worse than having a gambling problem or raping a girl.
