This is one of my desktop backrounds :)

What are those 'V' or arrows? I see them on tanks all the time, and they're sometimes pointing in different directions.

[–]Jeffgoldbum 1 point2 points ago

It points which way the tank shoots :V

Apparently they're there to help differentiate tank units. Different styles and colors mean different things.

Got this info when I googled: arrows on tanks :D

The coolest thing is the shell is already a hundred or more feet away.

so I've heard that shot traps were bad but I see the same thing on the bottom of the m1 turret. why do they design them like this?

It was also on /r/perfect timing and another subreddit too, I've seen it every time it gets posted.

Leopard 2? Also those V signs are markers designating them part of NATO

[–]paindocpaindoc 2 points3 points ago

If you look closely, the whole body style is different. The Leopard is a more blocky tank, the challenger very angular, the Abrams a mix of both, and the merkava with a turret farther back and front drive wheels. Not to mention the turret :)

Noted, thanks :)

I've spent far too much time looking at modern armor :D

Understandable mixing those two up in this picture, the limited view makes it look pretty similar

[–]NotMyRealNamePromise 3 points4 points ago

Nope it has front wheel drive (the leo uses the rearmost wheels to drive the treads). Looks kinda like a Merkava

[–]GreenUmi[RDDT3]GreenUmi 3 points4 points ago

Yes, it's a Merkava IIId. Full photo of the tank firing.

That is seriously one piece of machinery

[–]Captain_English 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, that was my gut response.
