Male cats can be calico if they have klinefelter's syndrome (XXY)

This is because the calico gene is located on the X chromosome, but must be a homozygous strain in order to produce the calico pattern. The Double x chromosomes on klinefelter's male cats would allow this to happen, but would also allow for a male gender, although likely with many other defects.

There was this very pretty calico that lived next door to me once. It's owner, a young woman probably in her 20s, moved out and I assume left it essentially to the landlord who lived there as well. He didn't want it, I assume, but he left it outside and left food and water for it.

However, this was an extremely cat-heavy neighborhood, so a few months down the road, I see the calico and she is just torn to shit. Battle scars on her head and body basically turning her from a beautiful cat into a monster.

Now knowing it was a female, I wonder how many of those scars were just from the female defending itself from cat-rape? I thought they might've been territory fights at the time.

This makes me incredibly sad. I have a calico, and she's just beautiful. I could never imagine abandoning her. I also live in a cat-heavy neighborhood, and I refuse to let her be an outdoor cat, because I worry about her getting hurt (she's also fairly tiny for a 3 year old cat).

The pouncing cat looks like its actually a predatory species rather than a typical house cat like the one getting chased.

Edit: Looks like the cat on the left is a Bengal Cat, a hybrid breed that mixes a domestic cat and an Asian Leopard Cat. Source

Tiiiny bit misleading. In the last 20 years or so, outbreeding back to asian leopard cats has all but ceased, and inbreeding within solely hybrid bengals has become very popular to tease out radically different pigmentation and fur patterns. I'd hardly call them a "hybrid" at this point, as there are at least 20 generations between recent kittens and the last outbreed to ALC.

All of that said, bengals are beautiful animals, but you must make sure you've got the space and patience for one if you decide to get one. They are physically active to the extreme, and would bound along the ceiling if they could. They also can get very large (my larger one is nearly 25 lbs-- and not fat) and very destructive. They're absolutely not like a normal house cat, but if you DO have the space and the patience for one, they're awesome.

That is the truth. We have a 21lb male Bengal. Amazing animal. The other cats hate him for the very thing in this picture.

There is nothing about the way he carries or expresses himself that remotely resembles a normal house cat. The only time he shows any interest in the other cats is when he gets in a mood to torment them. He does love that so.

Most, not all, males have XY sex chromosomes. But the ones that don't are exceptional cases and we usually just say that XY and male are equivalent.

Strictly speaking, almost all -- a XXY cat (two X chromosomes, one Y chromosome) will be male, probably sterile, and can be tortoiseshell. (We used to have one.)

The one doing the attacking is a Bengal Cat. I think these creatures are amazing, and hope to have one eventually. Kittens are expensive though, as it is a pure bred animal. The one being attacked looks like a Tortoiseshell Maine Coon.

I have a Toyger.

Beautiful animals, but health problems are common, and mine has a unique diet. I hear Bengals are the same way, as are most designer breeds I'd wager.

Interesting note, the breed is being refined so quickly that I think my Toyger has stronger features than the 2003 Best in Show.
