The funny part is his name is Timmy! Don't even get me started! I'm proud of how hard he works in school, he's a bright kid. But the coddling, even since I was in the fourth grade 9 years ago is just absurd. We aren't creating leaders, we are creating a generation of pussies!

Agreed. First they take out the tan bark, then it was the lowering of standards, and the false praise everyone gets equally. You really need to sit some of these kids down and tell them they are doing a poor job. Dont discourage them sure, but tell em to get their shit together. This is not just for little kids. I have seen many a college student who could use a heart to heart talk that they just suck and need to improve or try a vocational school.

If I'm correct, we used to have either cement (when I was growing up), or tan bark in the playgrounds? This caused injuries. They replaced a lot of it with safer surfaces.

I could be wrong, though.

As a musician, I cringed at my son's and my daughter's recorder recitals. But helping them learn and perfect their music got me interested in learning the instrument more in depth, so I went and bought me a decent quality instrument and I've been playing the shit out of some Medieval tunes and Celtic dances. It's really quite fun. Too bad my kids lost interest or they could help me play some of the 2 and 3 part pieces I have. So I record myself playing one part and then play along with the second part.

Forever alone level: recorder.

I have a terrible recorder story from when I was in the 5th grade. I had just gone to a new school. All my previous years I didn't have a music class, so I pretty much had no idea how to read music, much less how to play a recorder. My new music instructor didn't really seem to care. She never helped me learn but always reminded of how bad I was at it. One day we had to do solo's (I kid you not. Recorder solo's.) Mine was really bad. She made me stop halfway through. Later she told my teacher that she "heard some of the worst playing today in her life." My teacher didn't realize the music instructor was talking about me, not the entire class. No one got to go to recess, and everyone knew it was because of me.

TL;DR Crappy music teacher takes recorder too seriously, everyone hates me for a week
