This gif is twice as sad because it's Wilf.

[–]Cellophane_Flower 21 points22 points ago

/sniff

Just saw part two of the End of Time last night... starting to tear up again... Why did he have to yell at Wilf?!

[–]deimachyMcGann 10 points11 points ago

Rewatched it earlier tonight, actually. All of Tennant's whining had me annoyed enough, and then the yelling at Wilf.. Definitely not a fan of his last 15 or so minutes.

[–]Cellophane_Flower 5 points6 points ago

That moment was so painful to watch. In my head I was yelling at the Doctor. And it's crazy, watching Tennant in the box instead of Wilf, I was happy. It's hard to describe my feelings without spoiling, and I"m too tired to set up a tag. But I'm glad I'm not the only one.

[–]BelleDandy 6 points7 points ago

I like Wilf but I was annoyed with him. I felt The Doctor had a right to be annoyed, too. He gave up his life for that man just like he's given up so much before.

[–]DAsSNipez 2 points3 points ago

Oh come on, he died in agony for an old man when he could (physically) have left him there to die.

I'd be pretty pissed as well.

[–]deusexnoxTARDIS 44 points45 points ago

This one gets me every time. The moment with Vincent realizing his life does mean something and how others will finally be able to appreciate how he saw the world... I need a minute...

[–]extremebikerSmith 1 point2 points ago

I have been a Doctor fan for quite some time but have not seen many episodes. I am finally watching all of Matt's episodes now and I have to say I was in tears at the end of this episode. It was magnificent and the Doctor is so wonderful. What an incredible story to be told.

[–]look_under_here 0 points1 point ago

I need 2 mins

[–]Leo55Smith 15 points16 points ago

Pretty much my reaction every time I watch it. :]

Beautiful scene!

[–]Psych277 16 points17 points ago

Every single time. This is the episode I use to introduce people to Doctor Who.

[–]Leo55Smith 9 points10 points ago

Couldn't pick a better one imo, it's got everything; monsters, crying men, plenty of laughs, time travel, and that warm fuzzy feeling we all could use once a day.

[–]TylerSpencer 5 points6 points ago

I thought y'all were talking about the episode referenced by OP's gif. I was so confused why out of all the episodes with spoilers in them, you'd pick the biggest one. Then I realized you meant Van Gogh and was relieved you weren't crazy.

[–]areyouteaaychTARDIS 3 points4 points ago

So did I, maybe it's just us that's crazy?

[–]Leo55Smith 0 points1 point ago

Oh let's not jump to conclusions here, the diagnosis is still in progress ;]

[–]alleycat06TARDIS 0 points1 point ago

That's how I got my roommates into it, works every time.

[–]NowinTom Baker 11 points12 points ago

The other day I felt like a good cry. Not sure why, but I felt like I just needed to cry. Being unable to cry on my own, I attempted to invoke an emotional response from several sources which has worked in the past. I failed with several attempts including books, TV, movies, and music. I gave up and decided to watch Doctor Who. This episode came up, and when the scene came up with Vincent in the museum, I bawled like a little girl.

[–]Rummy9 6 points7 points ago

Try reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen. Erikson will rip your heart out multiple times, plus its just a plain awesome series.

[–]NowinTom Baker 0 points1 point ago

I love new book recommendations! Thanks!

[–]Rummy9 1 point2 points ago

The first book was written before he sold it to any publishers, so it has a bit of a rough edge. the 2nd book and on become amazingly better though.

[–]NowinTom Baker 1 point2 points ago

Have you read The Dark Tower series? Same thing IMO. The first book was a compilation of shorter stories, and it doesn't flow as well as the rest of them.

[–]Sockatees 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for this, I had a very difficult time getting through both of those books... will give them another shot.

[–]DAsSNipez 1 point2 points ago

Did you read the original or the revised version?

I only read (listened to) the second version and I have no idea what you're referring to so I'd suggest going back and checking it out if you haven't.

[–]NowinTom Baker 0 points1 point ago

Both. He did revise it to make it flow better, but it still feels like 5 different stories. I actually liked many parts of the original better. Roland seemed so much colder.

[–]NowinTom Baker 0 points1 point ago

Just read the wiki page on it. Looks amazing. I love epic stories told over many novels.

[–]CoolBowtieSmith 7 points8 points ago

I've been conditioned to cry when hearing that song. Every time I hear it I get all choked up.

[–]Imgonnaroll 1 point2 points ago

What is the name?

[–]tamearmeisce 4 points5 points ago

[–]zolar16 2 points3 points ago

You bastard, I listened to that song for about 20 seconds and started to tear up.

[–]Imgonnaroll 0 points1 point ago

Thank you

[–]_flying_cat_ 5 points6 points ago

Seeing as I seem to be the ONLY person who can keep themselves together without any difficulty whatsoever, I believe I have no soul. And that was before reddit...

[–]yangyangR 4 points5 points ago

A cybermen

[–]FloralStreusel 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, really the only time I've ever really cried while watching a show was during the parts of DW where Rory becomes old/crazy and Amy gets old and hateful. Those scenes sort of broke me.

[–]MegaZambam 2 points3 points ago

No don't worry, I always get confused when people get all emotional over a TV show. Happens a lot over at /r/TheLastAirbender too. Everyone is talking about crying while watching the show. For me, I think a scene can be moving but the only time I've ever cried while watching something was when I watched The Road.

[–]SweetFUUUingBrowniesTennant 1 point2 points ago

Hey, look! We got referenced in a different subreddit. Woohoo.

[–]MegaZambam 0 points1 point ago

Meh, it's the only other show sub-reddit I frequent. I have often considered not frequenting it because of how many posts get boiled down to "OMG SO SAD RIGHT IN THE HONOR TEARBEND!" Alas, the discussion is decent enough I can ignore the rest.

[–]SweetFUUUingBrowniesTennant 0 points1 point ago

Yes, the circlejerk is incredible. But some of it is actually quality commenting. But I enjoy reading through it especially during all of the episodes. So many conspiracy theories and shit. I loved the good "Bad Amon Joke" memes. They were hilarious. Also, some of what people come up with helps you think outside the box of ATLA and ATLK. Unfortunately that meme fell with Amon. RIP.

[–]MegaZambam 0 points1 point ago

Ya, the circlejerk can be overbearing. Also noticed that some ideas they are just not ok with. People still think that Aang energy bent to undo Amon's blood bending and when I present an argument that he was likely just showing her how to use the Avatar State to undo the blood bending I get ignored.

[–]SweetFUUUingBrowniesTennant 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes people don't want to listen to reason. No matter what case, even if you were wrong and they were right. Sometimes people don't like to see the alternatives to their ideas.

[–]joeromagSmith 5 points6 points ago

And The Doctor The Widow and The Wardrobe. But more of a happy crying which is surprisingly fitting.

[–]iluvhobos27Eccleston 2 points3 points ago

I feel like I'm the only person who didn't cry at that special..

[–]MegaZambam 5 points6 points ago

I didn't either, don't worry.

[–]Kubaker1TARDIS 1 point2 points ago

Nor I.

[–]oag721Smith 0 points1 point ago

I started to well up the second time.

[–]QuackOfAllTrades 3 points4 points ago

Same here, it was actually my least favourite episode of Doctor Who since Love & Monsters.

[–]robmyers 1 point2 points ago

I cried. It was that bad.

THE ULTIMATE GINGER

[–]TomguydudeSmith 3 points4 points ago

I'm watching that episode atm. (Vincent and the doctor, not the one from this pic.) It's doesn't seem too emotional, the worst part so far is when Vincent was crying on his bed. I'm up to the part where Vincent is painting the church.

[–]Psych277 8 points9 points ago

The end will tear apart your soul.

[–]TomguydudeSmith 3 points4 points ago

Ok thanks for the heads up

[–]bentles[S] 1 point2 points ago

So what did you think of the ending? :'(

[–]TomguydudeSmith 4 points5 points ago

Completely soul crushing. Also, I have a copy of Vincents painting, 'Sunflowers', in my house and at the end I rushed to look at it, upset to see that it only said 'Vincent' at the bottom of the vase.

[–]Quazifuji 5 points6 points ago

Just finish the damn episode and then come back. What, you expect the episode to start out making you cry?

[–]TomguydudeSmith 5 points6 points ago

Wha.. I... No... No I don't... I'm just saying that it doesn't seem like a bawl your eyes out with tears episode. Don't snap at people on the internet. Or in real life on that account, its just plain rude.

[–]Quazifuji 4 points5 points ago

Sorry, I sort of meant that comment to be a bit more joking in tone than it came out. Anyway, yeah, I think it's the end of the episode that gets to people.

[–]TomguydudeSmith 5 points6 points ago

Thats completely fine, sarcasm doesn't work on the internet; most people assume your trying to offend them, not make a joke. I accept your apology.

[–]berserkrqueenK-9 2 points3 points ago

I end up like that after a lot of episodes... I lost it during the K-9/Sarah Jane episode. I just lost my doggie the exact same day. ><

[–]bentles[S] 2 points3 points ago

Sarah Jane died IRL. :,(

[–]berserkrqueenK-9 1 point2 points ago

I know. :( That, too, was very sad.

[–]oag721Smith 0 points1 point ago

EVERY time I watch something with Sarah Jane I'm sad because of Sladen dying. And she died before I got into the series ("Impossible Astronaut" was my first episode; it was dedicated to her and I didn't know who she was...she passed away like 4 days before it aired).

[–]funions_mcgee 5 points6 points ago

For some reason I... I think I might be the only person in doctor who fandom who just doesn't find this episode extra touching. ._. I cry at many, many episodes of doctor who but this one doesn't get me the way The Beast Below, Journey's End or The Girl in the Fireplace do. (there are a lot of them that I cry about)

I don't know. The funny thing is I'm a fine art student and a big fan of Van Gogh's work. I guess it annoys me that he isn't being celebrated for his artistic talent in DW, that's more of a back drop. The appeal isn't in his paintings, it's in the tragic story, and there's a "magic power" that he has. I felt sorry-er for the invisible monster alien that died. If he didn't have this "magic power" he wouldn't be featured in doctor who.

It just feels like it's selling an amazing artist short and turning him into a cheap thrill. Everyone knows his tragedy, but there are hundreds of thousands of tragic stories in the art world. If I wanted to pay homage to him, I'd rather go to a museum, or read/watch/listen about his work, process and even his real life story.

tl;dr: unpopular opinion, preparing for downvotes.

[–]GodphreeEccleston 2 points3 points ago

I get where you're coming from. I'm a big fan of his art as well. I have my own issue with the story, but it does always make me cry nevertheless.

[–]fieldstudiesK-9 2 points3 points ago

Yeah it was okay but I didn't find our that emotionally compelling. And I found the song annoying. not only did I not care for the song itself, but it just seemed out of pave in a doctor who episode.

[–]bbctol 1 point2 points ago

I didn't find the episode that sad, although not for the reasons you listed, I just... didn't find it that sad. I've never understood the tears.

[–]DoctorVanGogh 2 points3 points ago

I feel your pain.

[–]kal0029 2 points3 points ago

Quite possibly my favorite episode ever

[–]sanchy96Silence 2 points3 points ago

The fact that this sub reddit continues to "throw onions" in my eyes makes me want to unsub but...

[–]kono_hito_waSilence 1 point2 points ago

I can relate, although I trend more toward lots of goosebumps.

[–]idobelieveDalek 1 point2 points ago

Oh yeah, big time waterworks.

[–]lizamazooo 1 point2 points ago

I'm so happy I am not the only one reduced to a pile of tears EVERY time I watch that episode.

[–]tallyfreeTennant 0 points1 point ago

Me too! I was surprised, but I had giant tears rolling down my cheeks and I couldn't stop. Great writing/acting.

[–]offensivegrandmaTARDIS 1 point2 points ago

Most other moments, I've been able to keep it together after watching a few times, but this is just… it's hurts the very core of me.

[–]MrLuxaryYacht 1 point2 points ago

Which episode is the .gif from? I guess I just have to watch the entire season again!

[–]CoqdujourSilence 2 points3 points ago

The End of Time. When the doctor goes back to visit past companions toward the end of the episode.

[–]ScroachityK-9 0 points1 point ago

Every time :'/

[–]Imgonnaroll 1 point2 points ago

I always put off that episode because when I got into the series I hated episode were they went into the past...so one day I was out so I decided to watch that one a it Is now one of my favorite episodes

[–]ts87654K-9 1 point2 points ago

WILF I LOVE YOU T_T

[–]shaolinpunksDalek 1 point2 points ago

I really thought the gif was going to be of David in the rain again. I think that's what was used the last 14 times someone made a post of how they felt watching the Vincent episode.

[–]kr0n0Smith 0 points1 point ago

I just finished watching the episode.. that last bit on the sun flower painting made me tear up

[–]ComedianKellan 0 points1 point ago

Every time i watch that episode I cry...

[–]bigpapajon 0 points1 point ago

Loved that episode. I'd love more historical interaction.

[–]rubbertrait 0 points1 point ago

The whole time I watch that episode I end up being like "BUT VINCENT THEY LOOOOOOOVE YOU JUST WAAAAAAAAIT" and somehow that makes it a little better. I still cry like a baby, however.

[–]XnMeX 0 points1 point ago

Just watched this episode for the first time this morning and yeah, good stuff.

[–]munkiez 0 points1 point ago

Gets me everytime... /sob

[–]Remontant 0 points1 point ago

I have only been able to watch this episode once because of how hard I cried at the end of it. Such a gorgeous episode.

This is why I love this show. It provokes so many different emotions in me.

[–]Dobleman82TARDIS 1 point2 points ago

I had to think about what scene applied, then all of a sudden chills and that watery eyed feeling hit me when i remembered him in the museum.

[–]snerraTARDIS 1 point2 points ago

I've watched a lot of doctor, over and over again. Despite all of it, there's only one episode that never fails to break me down into tears. I guess that's what happens when the British king of Romcoms writes such a powerful episode.

[–]tolerdesigns 0 points1 point ago

Doctor Who in general has made me cry more times than any other show on television. I remember I was watching a particularly touching episode at work, and ended up crying in the corner for like five minutes.

[–]GirlwaitingTARDIS 0 points1 point ago

I weep like a baby every time at this and Father's Day and Doomsday and Journeys end and... (this could take a while!)

[–]Imgonnaroll 0 points1 point ago

Can you imagine how ginger there children would be

[–]tiredandjaded 0 points1 point ago

The Van Gogh episode is the one that finally made me see Matt Smith as the Doctor. I faithfully continued watching the series, but Ten was still the Doctor in my mind. I don't know what it was about this one that changed my mind. But it did.

[–]kmtkitkat11 0 points1 point ago

I try so hard not to cry watching doctor who...but...it just gets me very time :'(
