I've downloaded it, it's pretty scary if you let it get to you. The game itself is simple, but what makes it hard is that mix of fear and the dark environment you're surrounded in. Look up some gameplay videos on YouTube to see if you'd like it :)

You go around picking up manuscripts. About 8. Eventually after the 1st or 2nd page you become aware that slender man is following you. If you look at him too ling game over so quick glance. Also you cant run long in the game and your flashlight doesnt work forever. Scary game.

They are. Notch even said they were named after Slenderman. I think upon seeing a screenshot of the yet unnamed mob somebody suggested "slendermen" and he changed it slightly.

This sort of thing happens all the time with creative arts (game design included). Sometimes it's accidental, sometimes intentional, and sometimes a bit of both. This case is probably a bit of both, the name Enderman being accidental, then "The End" being kind of an intentional double entendre. Though "The End" was originally what Notch joked he'd call the Farlands when people called the Endermen Farlanders... I guess people just have a way of working meanings and stuff into things they create.
