This reminds me of when a PETA wanna be asshole in my high-school threw red paint on me for wearing a rabbit fur coat.

My mother bought it for me as a joke from a Salvation Army for my 15th birthday. We were poor, and that coat was warm, so I wore it. I thought it was pretty and I loved how ridiculous it was. I was so thankful for it.

I wore it to school and some asshole in my art class poored red paint all over me, saying that I was a murderer.

There was no way my mother could afford another coat for me to wear that winter. Needless to say I was just devastated. I finished crying, and looked at myself in the mirrored walls of the art room, and decided that this is what I had to work with.

I looked at my ruined coat at decided that it looked cooler with the paint on it. I put glitter glue on top of the paint and it looked even more bad ass.

I wore it with pride all 9th grade, untill it started to shed and the hide ripped with overuse.

And it wasn't really PETA, it was a kid who didn't think how their actions would effect me, but PETA instigates this thoughtless shit all over the world.

Like, what the fuck, I didn't kill these rabbits. I am, however, going to utilize the resource they left behind.

I have a lot of rescue cats, and I have dealt with rescue agencies that felt like I was abusing my cats if I went to work at a farmers market for 5 hours every Saturday. People are just misinformed and crazy, and if they feel like they are advocates of something without a voice, they have justification for being crazy.

I went on a rant, sorry. I didn't mean to start a PETA hate fest, I was just remembering that experience.

The analogy is flawed. Fur is a luxury product where animals are bred under disgusting circumstances only to feed peoples vanity. Leather is a byproduct of other industries such as meat and/or dairy. While I don't agree with those industries either, it's merely a byproduct

This is simply not true. I have worked in a fur farm and I can confirm that the circumstances are not disgusting. I love mink and I do not want them to be treated badly. Oh and by the way, the leather you wear on your shoes.. not necessarily a byproduct, my dear. Most leather is by products yet there are tons of cattle raised mainly for their leather. Oh oh.. last argument, animals from the fur industry are used to produce bio-diesel, so the fur is actually a by product ;)

Only last week, Sweden's largest fur farm was exposed by animal rights activist. They did not meet the standard applied by LAW, notice not the standards that the activists would set, but the minimum required by law.

These are (older, from 2010 2011) pictures from a fur farm in Sweden that was deemed a-ok by authorities. You don't really need to know what the text say or any background, the pictures are sickening enough.

Source for ANY of your claims would be nice. When did someone actually burn a McD in Sweden? Has it ever happened? They protest outside of fur shops, yes. But you're probably talking about DBF. They're more radical in their approach.

What's wrong with the video? Are you claiming they've edited it? Must've been some damn good work in that case. It's not only the bite marks but also the behaviour these animals show, for example running around in circles.

Nope, I work in this industry so I am quite sure that Djurretsalliansen is one of the worst ARE's out there. They can manipulate with the images, for instance find animals with wounds and put them together or in cages next to each other. You will never find a farm without bitten animals and that is simply because it is a territorial animal and they become vicious if they feel threaten by the other animals. The repeating behaviour of the animals you are referring to is called stereotypical behaviour and that is something all farmers are very much aware of. It usually happens if the animals are stressed, for instance if the camera team brought a sharp light or if there is a very high pitched sound near by. This is also a thing that occurs in nature. I see what you're getting at. I think that any purchase of fur, be it second hand or new, is supporting a market which is highly unethical and profits on animals who suffer without reason.

So no, I don't think it's ok, just like I wouldn't condone buying goods manufactured by children, even if it was second hand.
