Well, even if you're married/in a long term relationship, alone time is still important and essential. My boyfriend and I have been together for 7 years, right now he's housesittting across town, I came back last night so I could work this morning. I'm hanging out at the house for a few hours by myself just to get some alone time, then I'll head back over there. He's taking a road trip with a friend for 5 days in a few weeks, too. And of course you're separate at work. Is that what you were referring to?

In terms of monotony in a long term relationship/marriage, it can definitely get old and stale easily if both people are not actively trying to make it exciting. You can still go off and do things on your own, or travel together and be happy to be sharing the experience with another person :-) But I understand that especially once kids are involved and one or both parents are working, "life" takes over and it's hard to find the time, but it's still very important to find new experiences to enjoy together.
