I don't see any issue with this (aside from the 'Girls Only', that's a bit dodgy). Kids learn through adults and what to replicate what they see us do. In the first year of primary school (aged 5ish), I remember having free play options where parents would donate cereal boxes, empty cleaning bottles etc and we would play 'Checkout'. There was even a little cash register with fake money from memory. I thought it was great fun regardless of gender.

What I find weird is that you find that WTF worthy, but not toy departments in general. I work at a big shop, and the toys are split into toys and girls toys. on the one side you have all this awesome stuff (Nerf guns, yo-yos, Transformers, science sets), and then on the other side its all ponies, toy ovens, cleaning trolleys, other toy chores, and it all has to be pink. Even the dressup is skewed. Boys have doctor, fireman, policeman, etc, and girls have fairies, princesses and beauticians. Why do we force all this shit on kids? And it is forced. I encounter on a daily basis parents taking toys from their kids hands saying "No, thats for boys!" or "No, thats pink!" (If a boy picks it up). So why does society force traditional gender roles on kids from birth?

Is the quality of toys getting shittier and shittier? I was a 90's boy and I remember my mom got me a kitchen set to play with. It wasn't pink, it was yellow and blue and white, and it was that tough plastic.

It seems like world trade has further refined what will sell and what is cheap to make with this pink sexist shit. It's least common denominator anymore and we're no longer better for it.

Pink girls toys are pretty harmless at the end of the day, our daughter had a huge range of toys and we just let her work out what she enjoyed the most.

It's fun to copy a parent and feel helpful and that interaction, whatever the shared act may be it's still the best thing for any child. So for everything bad that can be said about this one toy, at least it's not a DVD.

(She's now 11, addicted to minecraft & learning her way around redstone, huge retro gamer and recently sold all her pink toys to put towards a bike.)
