ATTENTION NEW SURFERS

Welcome to the sport. Please, before you ask any questions about your new board, or learning, or etiquette, or whatever, check out the r/surfing FAQ. The whole community worked on it, and it's got a ton of info. Afterwards, if you still have questions, feel free to post.

Be warned, if your self post makes it obvious you didn't read the FAQ, someone may give the wrong advice, on purpose, just to be an asshole.

Want to promote your shop, your brand, or your website? Head on over to r/surfshops where you can flog surfing's corpse in pursuit of the almighty dollar. Doing so in r/surfing will not be tolerated, and will result in your submission removal, and user ban.

Want it to say where you surf and what you ride next to your name? Look above this for the little thing that says (edit). Enjoy

You've got to be some kind of crazy to even think of surfing Teahupoo when it's that huge. Fucking nuts...

I get chills when I watch this. It's not a wave, it's the ocean folding in on itself.

I'm struggling with time here. When was this photo taken? Looks like a scanned photo and the crowd just looks late 90's, early 00's. No jet skis or bindings on the boards. These guys are just out for the show mother nature is putting on.

My buddy had this on his wall in College years ago in poster form. At least from the early 00s. My guess is mid 90s

I'm pretty sure this was 2000. It's the old WQS Gotcha Pro Tahiiti, before it became a world tour event.

Does that right look surfable?

[–]CatchafireJH 0 points1 point ago

With the proper swell direction it's definitely rideable. Rare, but it happens.

[–]partyfoul 1 point2 points ago

Nope.

Lets thank Peter ' Joli' Wilson for the photo. There is a sick sequence of the wave unloading on his website. Check it out.

Awesome picture. Are the orange bouys channel markers? If so there is not way I'd find myself on the wrong side of them. Better safe than sorry.
