  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Now that I think about it, it strikes me oddly that a killer whale would be in Antarctica. I know penguins can reside elsewhere but that's where it looks like.

Killer whales are found in all oceans, from the frigid Arctic and Antarctic >regions to tropical seas.

Thats from the wiki on Orcas. But I learned most of my knowledge of whales from Futurama episodes.

It's pretty simple, really! Just go here, either link or upload the image, and hit search. It digs back and sees how many times that image has been posted, as well as a lot of other relevant info about it.

Yup, it should! I tested it out just now with a reposted image on the front of /r/pics today. I saved it to my desktop, renamed it to something random, and KarmaDecay was still able to find duplicate posts.

I actually hadn't thought of that before, but I am glad the test checked out there, haha.

Honestly, if it's been like a year, people are going to remember that it's been posted before, but most sane people won't care. I am mostly concerned about stuff I see on a weekly, or sometimes monthly basis. There's limits on both ends of the reposting issue: stuff shouldn't be posted over and over again constantly, and it shouldn't be locked away in a vault for eternity, either. KarmaDecay is simply a tool to help everyone find that happy medium.

If it actually is reposted to the point of saturation, its upvote/downvote ratio will go to shit. I have yet to see something make it to the main page of /r/all several times in a few months, at most you'll see something on one subreddit, and then on a different subreddit a few days/weeks later. Basically, if it's on the "front page", it's because people upvoted it. If people upvoted it, it's because they like it (either it was new to them, or they enjoyed seeing it again). Complaining about something being a repost is never constructive.

Fact: The process of penguins pooling next to the edge waiting to dive in is part of a process for this exact scenario. While it's beneficial to be among the first in the water to hunt since fish will be more likely in their schools and therefore easier to catch, it is not beneficial to be the first in. Penguins actually pool together along the edge and eventually push the first one in. Once they see the first few penguins fall in without blood rising to the top of the water or stirring waves from the orca, they are then only willing to dive in to hunt.
