Pre-dENTal student here who has shadowed during several root canals. Other than the boredom you experience during the procedure you should feel absolutely no pain. I recommend bringing an mp3 player and some good headphones even if they have a TV as daytime television usually sucks. Maybe even bring an audio book - something you can get absorbed in to take your focus off the procedure. Even the anesthetic injection will feel no worse than a pinch as they should apply topical anesthetic before using the syringe. Good luck and I hope it goes smoothly!
