I find cats to be so amazing for the simple fact that they are able to quickly take into consideration such things like the speed in which they will have to take off in order to maintain their upward climb on the wall, it's not like they even practice it, they just look gauge it and go. I watched a bunch of videos of cats just making these crazy jumps after spending just a few seconds looking at the distance and challenge, like the video where that cat wall runs from one ledge to another to jump a fence. Just like wtf, how do they know they can do that!?

I used to think that, if you consider metabolic rate roughly the "speed of life" or if you prefer just base it on lifespan. It does feel right that small animals that live and move quicker appear to have fast reactions but in-fact just perceive time like we do but proportional to their time alive. The opposite being true for things like Galapagos turtles. Have no idea if there is any truth in that hypothesis, but I would rule humans out as a data point as we artificially live longer than we should.

Not my cat, alas. He is the only cat I've ever owned who I've had to motivate to jump. He's nearly 4, and when we play now, he'll jump about 4 inches, max. When the cat I just had put down (my friend for 17 years!) was the same age, he used to follow behind me, then jump to land his back paws on my hips and front paws on my shoulders for a ride.
