I'll let you in on a secret. The dangers of wildlife in Australia is one of the most grossly over exaggerated things I've ever heard in my life. This is coming from some one that has lived here for 24 years.

If you live in the city or well urbanised area, it's quite likely that you will go days without seeing a single spider, weeks without seeing a spider much bigger than an average coin, and months without seeing a spider that is dangerous or of really notable size. If you go out hiking in the bush you'll probably see a few weird spiders, but not as many as people would have you believe, and 99.9% of them are absolutely harmless.

As for snakes, you will NEVER see those in urbanised areas. Ever. If you go to the bush they are around, but you will still only very rarely see them. In my 24 year life, I have seen exactly three snakes in the wild. Yep, that's it. And I've been camping my fair share of times.

These myths harm our tourism industry, so I'm busting them one person at a time. :D
