Wait...what? It took me a second to get it but people actually pronounce it like that?

[–]powdurrr[S] 5 points6 points ago

Oh yes. They pronounce it that way with all the confidence in the world.

This man speaks the truth. Someone at work said it like that, I know if I correct him he'll just continue to insist it's pronounced like that.

My old roommate pronounced it as "mem"... My soul burned whenever he said it

[–]conatus_or_coitus 4 points5 points ago

Heard someone say "memé".

All of my wat.

[–]jimmcg7 2 points3 points ago

i think we might know the same person. this can't be a common pronunciation

[–]SimonSays_ 2 points3 points ago

I've heard "mem-meh" before but not "me-me".

[–]aroomacanvas 3 points4 points ago

To be fair, meme is a word that is very rarely used anywhere else than on the internet. I looked up the pronunciation because I didn't want to get it wrong, but I'm sure a lot of people don't care and just pronounce it how they want.

My housemate says it this way. He still does, even after I laughed and corrected him.

I just heard my stepbrother say this last night... and he defended it... ugh.. it was annoying.

[–]byerz 3 points4 points ago

My friend always says it and says that its right. I proved to him that its not right, and now he says it just to piss me off.

According to Wikipedia, Richard Dawkins coined the term in 1976.

what did brian say?

[–]someguy945 1 point2 points ago

Very old episode. Brian and Stewie are meeting with Tom Tucker (the news anchor) and his son Jake Tucker (who has an upside-down face). They are trying to be sensitive about Jake's condition and ignore/not mention it.

They are having a normal conversation when suddenly Brian accidentally says the words "upside-down face" instead of whatever he meant to actually say.

I pronounce as "meam." Is that right?
